This is Wrights last commission before his death in 1959. It was completed posthumously by protege #architect #aarongreen. The building was completed in 2 phases, with the County Administration wing (pictured) first completing in #1959, followed by the Hall of Justice completing in 1962. The building has a unique design bridging 3 knolls with a slender dogleg plan incorporating a stepped full length atrium intended to bring sunlight and fresh air to all spaces in the 4 story building, which are therefore glazed on both exterior and atrium facing walls. As with many FLW structures, creature comfort was considered secondary to the aesthetic imperative, and the atrium was subsequently enclosed with a transparent arched skylight to improve heating and weatherproofing. The design originally called for arched & domed roofs to have a golden tan color matching the surrounding Northern California hillsides covered in grasses of a golden hue much of the year. A lasting pigment was not available for this, and so Wright's widow #Olgivanna_Wright chose a blue tone to match the sky. (at Marin County Civic Center)
