YouTube Music is first app to bring Chromecast support to Android 13’s audio switcher

Google introduced the audio output switcher shortcut for media player apps on Android two years ago. However, the feature didn’t list Chromecast and Google Cast devices in its menu, and people demanded Google bring support for those devices. With Android 13, Google has finally added support for Google Cast devices in the audio output switcher, and YouTube Music is the first app to support it.

Google released the Android 13 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release 1) update, bringing support for Google Cast-compatible devices in the audio output switcher. Pixel smartphones running Android 13 QPR1 can now use this feature, and it is first available via YouTube Music (via 9To5Google). Developers of all media playing and streaming apps must implement this feature to support the new audio output switcher with Cast compatibility.

Right now, you won’t be able to see Cast devices in your Galaxy smartphone or tablet’s audio output switcher. That’s because Samsung hasn’t implemented the feature yet, and it needs to bring those changes with a future One UI 5.0 update or by updating its Media Output module in the background. Maybe Samsung will bring this feature to its devices with the One UI 5.1 update, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Being able to route audio to Bluetooth and Google Cast devices is a handy feature to have, and you don’t have to unlock your phone and open the media playing app to switch audio to another device.

Motorola Razr 3 leak sheds light on its battery size

The next generation of foldable phones are just around the corner and it would be an understatement to say that the anticipation is high. It’s been about six months since we first heard about the Motorola Razr 3, and over the course of several months, we have heard and even seen more details about the phone. Now, we are getting one of the last unknowns about the handset, and what’s being shared, might not be all that uplifting for those coveting the Motorola Razr 3.

Renowned leaker Digital Chat Station has now revealed that the upcoming Motorola Razr 3 will arrive with the exact same battery specification as the previous Motorola Razr. That means that the new handset will come with a 2,800mAh battery. This might not be a huge deal in isolation, but there are things to consider.

XDA VIDEO OF THE DAY

We have heard numerous times that the Motorola Razr 3 will arrive with Qualcomm’s latest, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. It is the top-of-the-line SoC this summer and it packs a lot of power. The handset is also rumored to arrive with a 6.7-inch display, which is larger than the previous 6.2-inch found on the previous Motorola Razr 5G. If a larger display wasn’t enough, Motorola could be upping the ante by bumping the refresh rate for the Motorola Razr 3 to 120Hz.

Will a 2,800mah battery be enough?

With all of these specifications, there might be some concerns about whether an average user can get a full day’s battery life out of the Motorola Razr 3. Of course, the other side of the coin is that Qualcomm has stated that its new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is 30 percent more efficient when it comes to power usage. This could be the reason that Motorola has left the battery as is, feeling confident with what it brings to the table. Of course, it’s too early to tell just how power efficient the Motorola Razr 3 will be. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until it’s officially announced.

The Motorola Razr 3 will face quite a bit of competition. From leaks, it appears that Samsung is also preparing its own follow-up for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 could also pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, a larger external display size, and most importantly, a larger battery. If the leaks are to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 will arrive with a 3,300mAh or 3,400mAh battery. This is quite a difference when compared to Motorola’s Razr 3. Again, while all of the leaks and rumors seem reliable, we will just have to be patient and wait for an official announcement.

For example, the Canon camera brands have always created and upgraded their products including their quality and what they find beneficial for their consumers. Recently, Canon have been in the works creating and improving a new design that would give better grip to their cameras along with new lenses. One model specifically that is plan to launch on September 14, 2021 is called the Canon EOS R3 camera. With other competing camera brands such as Nikon, Fujifilm, Olympus, and much more, Canon also have to constantly come up with new ideas and designs to keep their audience from wanting to purchase their products.

Another product of design thinking is Samsung. Similarly, to Canon, Samsung is competing with other smartphone brands and with that competition, the designs have to constantly improve. Samsung’s recent launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G and Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G is something that is definitely different from other smartphone models. As many smartphones have had changed their styles over the years, Samsung has furthered their design ideas and decided on going back to the flip-phone design while keeping the familiar smartphone styles.

What I found to be the most significant concept from this week’s reading is the constant evolving and improvement of design while thinking about the people who would use the products. Design was not only met to improve, but to be of use for people. When reading the section about empathy, it really opened my eyes and gave me a new perspective of when things are being created, thinking about who will use it and how useable it will be really impacted me and my thoughts on design.
