Arranged
MASTERLIST
Pairings: Bucky (Hephaestus) x (Aphrodite) reader, some Tony (Ares) x (Aphrodite) reader
Warnings: Allusions to a sexual encounter, shaming, kinda fluffy ending tho
Word count: 1.5k
Summary: Hephaestus (Bucky) marries Aphrodite (Y/N) and things don’t go as planned. It’s an arranged marriage, forced by Zeus himself. Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, isn’t very pleased with her new husband and his charred left arm. She’s used to handsome lovers, passionate lovers, such as Tony Stark/Ares. But what’s on the outside doesn’t reflect what’s on the inside and after Bucky and Y/N hit a massive bump in the road, it seems they might grow closer after all.
A/N: It’s been super busy, shit hit the fan last week and I’m very late with this. Not as good as I had hoped as I needed to rewrite a couple pieces. Might be open for a part 2? Written for @it-sammi-matthews
You had imagined your wedding to be different. Romantic, as befitted the Goddess of love and beauty. Instead, your father had arranged a court house wedding that couldn’t be more rushed. Your now husband, whom you had rarely spoken to before, reluctantly held your hand during the ceremony. And when it was time to kiss the bride, he gave you a chaste kiss to your cheek, as per your request.
You would’ve loved for your husband to be handsome, which he was in his own way but not the way you preferred. Bucky Barnes, also known as Hephaestus amongst the other deities, had a chiselled jawline and deep blue eyes. Although his face could be defined as crafted by the most talented sculptor, his left arm however was not. It had been charred by the heath of his workshop, where he would forge weapons for Gods and Men.
As soon as your marriage has begun, it had already ended as well. It was a well-kept secret that you had many suitors, whom you preferred over your own husband. One of them was the God of War, Ares, known to mankind as Tony Stark. He is charming and passionate, your romance a rollercoaster ride of sneaking around and making out in the smallest of corners.
It’s in one of those corners that Steve (Hermes) caught you. Unbeknownst to you, your husband Bucky had assigned Hermes to follow you and make note of your daily routines. He had noticed you were acting off lately, spending more time with your fellow goddesses than in your personal quarters and those you shared with Bucky.
Bucky had therefore once asked you if you were bored and if you wanted to join him at the workshop sometime. You had replied that you did not share his interests in weaponry, only jewellery, and thus did not want to accompany him at any given time. It was also too hot for you at the workshop, Bucky always working bare-chested, sweat dripping from his skin.
It had then plagued his mind with questions such as “does she find me repulsive” and “does she have another lover”, prompting him to inquire with his friend, Steve. The blond had claimed there was no reason to worry, nothing to be concerned about, that Aphrodite’s days of fluttering from one boy to the next were over.
“She is not a promiscuous goddess, my friend,” Steve had assured Bucky, “She is committed to only one man.” Unfortunately, the God had not mentioned this God was not Bucky, rather Tony Stark and that it was the God of War that Aphrodite spent most of her waking hours with.
Yet Bucky was not convinced by Steve’s words and started his own investigation, coaxing Steve into helping him. It is then that Steve overheard you whisper to Tony about a secret rendezvous later that day, in the corridors leading up to Tony’s private quarters. He passed along this information to Bucky, who decided to catch the two of you in the act and shame you in front of all Olympus.
The night had only just fallen as Tony pressed his lips to yours with a grunt. “You sure you want to do this here, Y/N? So open and exposed… Just like you this morning, when you visited me in my chambers unexpectedly.”
Silencing him with another fiery kiss, you hoped nobody had heard you as footsteps approached just as Tony’s hands untied your robes. He was about to lift you up so you could wrap your legs around his waist, when your husband rounded the corner and your face paled instantly.
But Bucky did not look shocked, appalled or surprised but rather relieved. Soon many others followed behind Bucky, as he had rounded up most of the other deities with the excuse of a party at Tony’s, the God of War notorious for his impromptu festivities, even more so than Dionysus.
So as you and Tony, both half-naked, were stared at and scorned, Bucky’s smug grin quickly disappeared by a sad smile as he noted the tears of shame welling up in your eyes. He just wanted to teach you a lesson, that’s all. He did not mean to break your heart or tear up the image you had of him as a virtuous man.
Because Bucky didn’t know and also never asked for your opinion on anything, too busy at the workshop to notice you weren’t so much bored but more lonely, secluded from all that is familiar. With our marriage, you had to leave behind your spot at Olympus where you had lived all this time, moving over to Bucky’s quarters who were hidden far away from all the other Gods and Goddesses.
You loved that he was the quiet type, not a man of words but of actions, getting things done rather than talking about getting them done. You appreciated that he remembered little things and quirks, such as which flowers you preferred and from which meadow or that time you woke up to find your favourite fruit on the table, fruit that can only be found in one specific region of Greece.
Yet apart from these gifts, he did not share much with you. He wasn’t much of a talker, so when he asked if you were bored, you felt insulted for obviously he did not realise that you were feeling so out of place. It’s why you replied so shortly and acted so mean towards him, even though that was not your intention at all.
After the incident with Tony, you did not speak a single word to the God of War again and avoided his presence. The same you did with Bucky, moving most of your things back to your old quarters and shunning him at official occasions where both of you were required by Zeus’s command. This pulled Bucky even deeper in his hurt, as he was hurt by your cheating and hurt by his own actions as he thought that exposing you would bring him the absolution he sought.
It was one early morning, when he wanted to make it up to you with your favourite flowers from your favourite meadow, that he ran into you after weeks of being ignored by you. Both of you had had the same idea, to pick flowers from the meadow, as soon winter would announce its arrival and there would be no more flowers for another two seasons.
You had spotted him from afar an had half a mind to return, but as he heard the rustling of the grass, Bucky turned around and called out your name. Like a statue you froze to the ground, sighing deeply as you were afraid of a confrontation. A conversation you could handle, but for your husband to flat-out tell you he despised you was a bridge too far.
Much to your surprise, Bucky held up the flowers he had assembled and offered them to you with a shy, boyish smile. “For you,” he said in a gruff voice, clearing his throat once you had accepted the flowers. “I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry?,” you mumble softly, admiring the beauty of the bouquet, casting your eyes down as you were wary of what kind of emotion his would display, confused by this turn of events since you had expected him to be cross at you, not apologise for what he had done.
Bucky nods and lifts your chin with his finger, gently. “I should have talked to you first and not put you on the spot like I did. I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry, too,” you reply eventually, eyes sincere. “I don’t love him. I love how he makes me feel. Wanted. Desired.”
“I know. And I know I’m not the kind of man you can love easily.” He looks down at his left arm and hand, grimacing. Then his blue eyes find yours again, his voice soft and sweet. “But I would like to get the chance to love you.”

Twist on the Myth
So I have a small confession, I thought of this challenge because of @thefanficfaerie‘s fairy tale challenge so I have to thank her for this idea and I would feel guilty if I didn’t mention this. Depending on how this challenge goes will really depend on if I ever do one again. So on with the rules and other lists.
Rules:
You may only write character that I read or ships I read. Must be reader insert unless in case of a ship. You are more than welcomed to pick two choices, I’ll even accept doubles in the use of Gods/Goddess but you must pick different characters.
Male!Readers and Trans!Readers are more than welcomes but make sure to say it somewhere and don’t forget to mark your warnings. Also if something has gay or lesbian next to it, that is the only way it can be written.
Stories must follow the myth or legend but add your own little twist whatever that maybe, like a death was just a way to get out of a bad situation.
Characters: Steve Rogers, Rafael Barba, James Kirk, Leonard McCoy, John Kennex, Owen Grady, Frank Castle, Bucky Barnes, Natasha Romanoff, Peggy Carter, Wanda Maximoff, Diana Prince, Pietro Maximoff, Daniel Jackson.
Ships: Winter Witch, Winter Widow, Romanogers, Scarlet America, Scarlet Widow, Wonder Kirk, Wonder America, Captain Lightening, Stucky, Steve/Peggy, Diana/S. Trevor and McKirk
Stories will be due: August 15.
All stories or gods must either be romantic fluff, romantic smut, or just make it romantic since many of these are love stories but if you pick just a god/goddess you can make it a little angsty but it was to have love/romance in it.
Remember HAVE FUN! Write is hard, having fun with it makes it easier.
Don’t forget tag me or use the tag twistonthemythchallenge or sammi’smythchallenge
