Well this was a great film to end 2023/start 2024 with.

Before I talk about my personal stuff connected to this film, this is genuinely an amazing film. Barely anyone can compare to Suriya’s amazing double acting in this movie, Simran, Divya Spandana and Sameera Reddy were also great. Harris Jayaraj wrote an AMAZING album to this movie (get more into that later). In general, one of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s best films in my opinion. Only flaw is probably hearing Suriya saying daddy to himself for 2hr 30min straight.

Personally, this movie has been an influence to me my whole life. It was released around the time I was born, and I was a picky eater (still am) so my dad would put me in a high chair and would play songs on his phone which only had ‘Annal Mele Panithuli’ to feed me. When I watched this film, my dad walked in at the start and laughed, saying that he would never forget this movie because of me and how he brought me up with film back then.

Now having watched it, I saw a lot of similarities between Suriya and Krishnan and me and my dad. My mum even admits that my dad spent more time caring for me when I was a baby than herself. If im being honest, I have a greater bond with my dad than my mum. I’m really scared for the future, I’m scared similar events will happen, especially since my dad’s health isn’t the best, but this film brought me strength. As Simran says at the end, “whatever happens, life has to go on”.

I love you dad.

P.s I suggest you listen to this movie’s soundtrack at least, it’s beautiful

The fact is, had this movie been made in 2024 with the same casting, it would have created a mass cinema! Here you will witness the younger Ajay Devgn with his timeless expressions and dialogues playing a professional killer who has lost his memory. You can relate Naam to the Salman Khan-starrer Tere Naam (2003) which featured a similar plot where the protagonist loses his memory and forgets his past. Naam will bring back the memories of that horrifying romantic tragedy-drama, Tere Naam. It even features the same actress as Tere Naam, Bhoomika Chawla, opposite Ajay Devgn. Besides, Devgn has some sizzling on-screen chemistry with actress Sameera Reddy in this movie. The editing is superb within the two-hour run duration which will keep you engaged till the climax. The scenes are so thrilling that they cover up any loose moments. You won’t feel bored in any instance. If you miss Rajpal Yadav’s nostalgic comical punches, then you will get to experience them again in Naam. And what’s more, you will witness the long-forgotten old-era Bollywood villains like Rahul Dev and Mukesh Tiwari once again! The cinematography and visuals are old-school and date back to the early 2000s era. You won’t find any VFX or special effects here. In fact, the bloodbath shown in the movie can be diagnosed with tomato ketchup! Only Millennials will be able to understand its true essence. Honestly, this crime thriller cannot be reviewed as it dates back in time.
