NOTE: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR CHHAAVA.
So guys, I did it. I watched Chhaava today. It was pretty impromptu, I mean, we decided today itself to watch it, we as in, me and my parents.
The film was really, really nice. The main characters look great as I expected, especially Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb. Side characters like Hambirrao Mohite, Kavi Kalash etc. looked good too. I didn't expect to find Rashmika's performance to be decent, but it felt kinda nice to me. Not excellent, but not bad to harm the film in any way. Her character seemed very sweet to me, but pls, someone explain to me what was the 'Shri-Sakhi' thing.
There is this part where Sambhaji Maharaj misses his mother, and Yesubai says that in next life, she wants to be his mother so that she can give him all the love of a mother, which I found kinda weird since she is his wife, T-T. I think instead of that dialogue, they should've showed her wishing that in next life, he would have the company and love of his mother.
The action sequences were top notch, and the second half of the film, like the Sangameshwar fight, plus ofc, the climax, were VERY nicely done and tear-jerking. Also the scene where Maharaj saves a child mid-fight is soooo sweet. And him freezing when he sees the child being held by his mother, with so much love, while he stares at them with a mix of longing, desperation and pain was js-
Absolutely love, love, LOVE how they did not try to change/whitewash things. They showed legit everything, including the nail removal, blinding and tongue removal of Maharaj. It made me cry. Vicky Kaushal looks so, so, SOOOOO damn good in this film, I js hope that man wins a National Award for this.
Personally, I really, REALLY wanted some sort of cameo for Saibai, since she is my absolute fav and a certified pookie. Her absence in Sambhaji Maharaj's life is really important, seeing how things turned out for him.
And there are these parts in the film, where baby Sambhaji calls out for his mother, for help or to ask something, but instead, it is his father who responds, not his mother. I think the symbolism here is meant that in his vulnerable moments, when he needs help, Sambhaji is seeking out his mother, hence he takes the form of a child. BUT she never responds, since Sambhaji does not remember her. Saibai died when he was just 2, so ofc, he would not remember her in anyway. Instead, Shivaji, the parent who WAS there for him, responds.
And in the end, as he dies, he calls out for her, and she responds. That was so beautiful.

'Heritage walk Bhor Rajwada' In one of our drives, we were passing through a small town and couldn’t help but stop at the sight of a large and beautiful palace. We found out this was the Rajwada of Bhor. The town of Bhor(once a princely state) is located some 51 km south of Pune, close to the Bhatgar Dam. The state was founded by Shankarji Narayan, who was appointed as the Pantsachiv, one of the eight hereditary ministers by Rajaram Chhatrapati in 1697, and was acceded to the Dominion of India on 8 March 1948. (Rajaram Bhonsle (1670 – March 2, 1700 Sinhagad) was the younger son of the first Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji, half-brother of the second Chhatrapati Sambhaji, and took over the Maratha Empire as its third chhatrapati after his brother’s death at the hands of the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb in 1689. He had a very short reign, during which he was engaged in a struggle with the Mughals.) The last Ruler of Bhor was Raja Shrimant Sir Raghunathrao Shankarrao Babasaheb Pandit Pantsachiv. The Bhor Rajwada, a synergy of Indian vernacular and European Renaissance Architectural style, was apparently built in 1869 by Pantsachiv Chimnajirao. Some excellent history on Bhor here. @pawarsann (at Rajwada Bhor)
