Wrapped Around Your Finger
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~1.1k
Warnings: fluff, arm wrestling
Summary: Tony instigates an arm wrestling contest with Bucky, and no one can beat him until you step up to the plate. The thing is, he’s a superhuman and you’re just a regular person. Something isn’t adding up here.
Squares Filled: thor (2021) for @buckybarnesbingo
Author’s Note: any and all comments are greatly appreciated <3
x
Tony never fails to throw a legendary party. You’ve never been invited to one until you were drafted into the team. You’re not a superhuman, you don’t have powers, and you can easily be killed in a fight. However, you do have amazing hacking skills that have been useful for the team over the past year. You can remotely get into any account, jump over any firewall, and hack into any system with your equipment from your office.
You don’t even have to leave the compound to help.
To be surrounded by such powerful people is a bit overwhelming, but you try not to show how much it’s affecting you. Alcohol always calms you down so you immediately head to the bar. Sam laughs from the right of you, and you see he’s talking to Steve and Bucky over by the pool table. Ah, Bucky Barnes. The Winter Soldier. The hottest man at the party. The hottest man in any room. To look more casual, Bucky sports a backward hat and a thin t-shirt that accentuates his muscles. No one here is scared of him so he’s not shy about hiding his metal arm.
You often fantasize about what his arm could really do to someone like you.
“You should go over and talk to him.” You jump at Natasha’s voice, and you look to see her and Wanda standing next to you. Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.”
“What are you talking about? I’m not staring at him.”
“We never said you were,” Wanda smirks.
“You definitely were, though.”
“Oh, yeah, totally.”
“Okay, stop. I’m not crushing on Bucky.”
“It’s okay if you are. He’s hot.”
“Why don’t you talk to him if you think he’s so hot?” you grumble.
“Not my type,” Nat answers. “I’m already a deadly assassin. I don’t need another one in my life.”
“Why don’t I go over to him and tell him how much you love him?” Wanda suggests with a smirk.
“Don’t you dare, Maximoff.”
Both women laugh, and Natasha slaps a hand on your shoulder.
“Lighten up. Have another drink.” Natasha orders you another drink and you take it gratefully. “Seriously, though, you should go for it. You clearly don’t see the looks he gives you when you’re not paying attention. He’s whipped for you. You could ask him for anything and he’d give it to you.”
“I’m nothing compared to him. He’s a super soldier. I’m just a weak human. He’s not into me.”
Nat and Wanda look at each other, and both of them shrug. “You’ll get there eventually.”
With alcohol in your system, you’re more social with everyone but Bucky. You’d have to get seriously fucked up to talk to Bucky. He makes you so nervous and you don’t want to do anything to embarrass yourself.
By the time ten rolls around, most of the people have left the party so only the Avengers are left. This group is more chilled than the previous one because no one is trying to impress someone. Only the elite have been invited to the party, and they were starstruck in the eyes of the Avengers. Everyone here knows what everyone can do so it’s more laid back and chill.
“Be honest with me,” Tony says to Bucky. “How much can you bench with that thing?”
“I don’t know,” Bucky chuckles. “I never tested it.”
“I bet I could take you.”
“Excuse me?”
“In an arm wrestling contest. Get your mind out of the gutter. I don’t run that way.”
Tony is drunk otherwise he wouldn’t be saying this, but Bucky finds amusement in it. Tony is persistent which is how you got here. Everyone wants a piece of Bucky’s metal arm to see if they can beat him. Knowing he can’t do it by himself, Tony grabs one of his Iron Man suit arms to give him that extra boost.
Tony fails, and Bucky doesn’t even look like he broke out in a sweat.
Rhodey tries and fails. Natasha and Clint know better than to take on a vibranium arm without powers. Bruce is scared he’ll turn into the Hulk if he strains himself too much. Wanda doesn’t compete because she’ll probably win with her magic, and she’s curious as to how this is going to end. Steve steps up to the plate and grabs Bucky’s metal hand confidently. The only person who thinks he might actually have a shot. Both men start the match, and Steve looks like he is going to win when Bucky gets a second wind and slams Steve’s hand on the desk.
The only person who can beat Bucky without any issue is Thor, but he’s on Asgard right now so he’s out of the running.
“Who’s next?” Bucky asks confidently.
“You’re so sure he’s whipped for me?” you whisper to Nat and Wanda. “There’s a way to tell if he is or not.”
“How?”
“He’ll let me win.” You step up to the table and take off your jacket. “I can do it.”
“You’re not doing it, Doll,” Bucky chuckles. “You’re going to get hurt.”
“What, are you chicken?” You look at everyone. “Hear that everyone? Bucky’s scared to go up against a girl.”
“Fine.” You turn to Bucky. “It’s your health. I won’t be the one who will end up with a broken arm.”
Bucky changes hands and grabs your hand with his flesh one.
“Why not your other hand?”
“I’m not using my metal arm on someone who doesn’t have any powers. It won’t be a fair fight.”
He has a point. You position yourself and look at Steve who taps the desk. You and Bucky immediately start to wrestle, and you’re using every bit of strength you have. Bucky has to admit, you’re strong for a woman of your stature but it’s not enough to beat him. However, the look of concentration and determination you have is too cute to diminish.
He pulls his strength back and lets you slam his hand to the desk.
You jump back and cheer for your victory, and he can’t help but smile. Everyone knows he let you win but you don’t care. You’re the only one who has been able to beat him whether or not it was a pity win. You join Nat and Wanda’s side with a huge smile on your face, and Steve and Sam approach Bucky with knowing looks on theirs.
“You let her win,” Steve says.
“You’re whipped, man,” Sam laughs.
“Yeah, I did, but look how happy she is.”
“You know he let you win, right?” Natasha whispers to you.
“Yeah, but that proves one thing. I have that man wrapped around my finger. He’s into me,” you beam.
“Finally, you see it,” Wanda laughs.
You look back at Bucky to see him already looking at you, and you smile right back.

Dr. Raynor asks Y/N and Bucky what they think the other’s deepest, darkest fears are (as some sort of teamwork exercise that the duo immediately calls BS on). This leads the reader to list off a bunch of things about thinking he’s a fraud, that he’s incapable of giving or receiving love, etc. Bucky, smirking, keeps it direct. He simply says that Y/N’s biggest fear is admitting that she’s in love with him.
He says it facetiously, of course. But the hesitation and lack of immediate barbed response says more than words ever could.
The silence, naturally, is the perfect opportunity for Dr. Raynor to use her notebook.
Maybe not enemies-to-lovers, but more rivals-to-lovers? A hefty amount of idiots-in-love, and probably some angst-to-fluff-to-Sam-owing-Sarah-$20-for-the-bet-that-they-weren’t-in-love.
Just Admit It » Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Pairings: TFATWS!Bucky Barnes x Female Reader
Summary: Dr. Raynor has you and Bucky do a teamwork exercise which ends up with you two admitting your feelings for each other.
Warnings: Angst, Fluff ending, language, Rivals to Lovers/Idiots In Love, kissing, pet names

“We’re going to try something different.” Dr. Raynor moves her notebook aside to lean her arms on the table. “I’m going to have you two do a teamwork exercise. In order to do that I need you two to face each other.” She says.
“Why?” You asked.
“Don’t question me and just do it.” She says.
You and Bucky turned your chairs around so you two were facing each other.
“Closer.” She says.
“Seriously?” Bucky says.
Dr. Raynor nodded. You and Bucky furrowed your eyebrows, already calling bullshit on it before moving closer to each other. You two were so close that your legs were touching his.
“Now, tell each other what you think each other’s deepest, darkest fears are.” She says.
You and Bucky sat there staring each other down for a moment in complete silence.
“What are you- are you guys having a staring contest?” Dr. Raynor asks.
You guys didn’t answer her. You two just continued to stare each other down in silence.
“Knock it off!” She snaps her fingers to get you guys to stop it. “Talk.” She orders.
Bucky rolled his eyes at her before looking at you, waiting for you to say something. You sighed loudly at the Super Soldier.
“Well, for starters, I think you’re a fraud.” You say.
“I’m a lot of things, but a fraud isn’t one of them.” He says.
“I also think you’re incapable of giving love and receiving it.” You say.
Bucky listened to everything else you listed off about him, which he thinks is simply untrue. He just chuckles and smirks facetiously at you.
“You wanna know what I think, doll?” He leans forward. “I think your biggest fear is admitting that you’re in love with me.” He says with the same facetious smirk on his face.
“I- that’s-” You couldn’t find the words you wanted to say, because he’s right and he knows it. “That’s not true.” You lied.
“Don’t try lying your way out of this. I heard my name come up in your conversation with Sam’s sister.” He says.
“You shouldn’t listen to or eavesdrop on people’s conversations.” You say.
“I wasn’t listening or eavesdropping. I heard you say it. I have enhanced hearing.” He says, sounding sarcastic.
You opened your mouth to say something, but closed it. You tilted your head back, groaning loudly. Bucky smirks to himself and leaned back in his chair.
“You’re so fucking annoying!” You say, almost shouting.
“The feeling is mutual, doll face.” Bucky says.
“How many damn times have I told you not to call me those stupid pet names?” You say, narrowing your eyes at him.
“I call you those little pet names just to annoy you.” He says, the facetious smirk returning to his face.
“How the hell did Steve even put up with you years ago?” You asked without realizing what you just said.
The smirk dropped from Bucky’s face and he clenched his jaw. Your eyes widened, realizing that the Steve subject is still sensitive for him. You two sat in silence. Dr. Raynor took the opportunity to write in her notebook during that silence.
“Are we done here?” Bucky asks Dr. Raynor.
“Yes, you two are dismissed.” Dr. Raynor says.
Bucky stood up from his chair, the chair making a scraping noise against the floor. You stood up and followed him.
“Bucky, wait!” You ran up to him. “I didn’t mean to bring up Steve like that.” You say.
“Don’t!” Bucky growls. “Don’t say his fucking name like you know him. You didn’t know him like I did. He was my best friend and you had to say shit like that.” He says.
“I didn’t mean to.” You say, trying to sound sincere.
“Save it.” He gets on his motorcycle. “I don’t want to fucking hear another god damn word coming from your mouth.” He says.
Bucky started his motorcycle and you stepped back when he drove way. You watched him drive away from a distance. You stood there, feeling guilty about the way you brought up Steve. You decided to leave Bucky alone and try to talk to him tomorrow.
You and Bucky have been rivals for as long as you two can remember. You two never got along. Steve tried everything to get you two to get along, but nothing worked. It only seemed to get worse after he left. The only thing you guys can agree on is work and that’s it.
The next day, you went to Sam’s and his sister’s house, hoping that Bucky was there and he was. His motorcycle is in the driveway. You knocked on the door and patiently waited for someone to open it. Sarah opened the door, smiling when she seen you. She gave you a hug before stepping aside to let you come inside.
“Is Bucky here?” You asked, fiddling with your fingers. “I seen his motorcycle in the driveway.” You say.
“Yes. He’s in the back with Sam.” Sarah says.
You followed her to the backyard. Bucky and Sam were throwing the shield around.
“Bucky, you have a visitor.” Sarah says.
Bucky stared at you in silence. You could sense that he was still mad about what you said yesterday.
“Let’s leave them alone, Sam.” She says.
“But I want to hear what they’re going to say to each other.” Sam says.
“Come on!” She says, grabbing his arm and pulled him towards the house.
“Ow! Ok, ok!” He says.
You and Bucky stood in silence. You were trying to build up the courage to apologize to him.
“Are you going to say something or are you just going to waste my time like you always do?” Bucky says.
You looked down at the ground before looking back at him. You know you have to apologize and you might as well get it over with. You took a deep breath before saying anything.
“I’m sorry about how I brought up Steve yesterday.” You started. “I know how sensitive that subject is for you and I shouldn’t have said that. I know he’s your best friend and you miss him.” You say, sounding sincere.
“You should be sorry. You were totally out of line for it.” He says.
“I know and I’m sorry.” You apologized. “It’s just- you get to me sometimes and I didn’t realize I said it.” You say.
The facetious smirk grew on Bucky’s face when you said he gets to you sometimes. That’s enough to confirm that you’re in love with him without having to say it.
“I get to you sometimes?” Bucky asks, smirking facetiously.
“I- yes!” You say, feeling your cheeks heat up.
“So I was right about what I said yesterday.” He took a couple steps closer to you. “You’re in love with me.” He says, the facetious smirk staying on his face.
Meanwhile, Sam and Sarah were watching from the kitchen window.
“$20 that Y/N kisses Bucky.” Sarah says.
“$20 that Bucky walks away from her.” Sam says.
“I’m not too sure about that. Y/N knows what she wants when she wants it.” She says.
You stared up at Bucky, feeling your heat hammering in your chest. The tension between the two was so thick that it could be cut with a knife.
“Are you going to admit it or what, doll face?” Bucky asks.
You didn’t say anything. You grasped the collar of his blue henley and pulled him down for a kiss. Bucky’s hands found their way to your waist, pulling you against his body. Your lips moved in sync with his. It felt everything around you two was moving in slow motion.
“I told you so! Pay up, Sam!” Sarah says, loud enough for you and Bucky to hear, making you two laugh against each other’s lips.
Sam made a grumbling noise and took his wallet out of his pocket, taking $20 out of it and gave it to his sister. Sarah smiles proudly to herself cause she won a bet against her brother.
“Boys, who wants ice cream?!” Sarah asks, calling out for her sons.
The kiss was so passionate that you and Bucky were breathless by the time you two pulled away from the kiss, looking deep in each other’s eyes.
“I really am sorry about how I brought up Steve.” You apologized again.
“It’s ok. I forgive you.” Bucky says.
Bucky brought a hand up to your cheek, caressing it and rubbing his thumb against your skin.
“Does this mean you want to be mine?” He asks softly.
“Didn’t that kiss prove it for you?” You asked, answering his question with a question.
Bucky chuckles and pecks your lips softly, which turned into another passionate kiss.
“Hey!” Sam shouts. “Keep it PG13! There’s kids here!” He shouts, making you and Bucky laugh against each other’s lips.

a/n: untitled beach fic; another shot at writing smut; 18+ only
pairings: Natasha Romanoff x Submissive!Reader
warnings: some degradation; light choking; cursing; dry(?) humping...
----------------
"You haven't looked at me the entire time we've been here, you know?"
The water is suddenly ice-cold and your muscles bunch up into one big knot. You turn to look at Natasha for the first time since you pulled up to the beach and the realization that she would be in nothing but a bikini for the entire day smacked you in the face like a stray frisbee.
"What?" You try to sound offended. Natasha holds your gaze. Your freshly sunscreened face begins to burn. You look back towards the shore where the rest of your friends are tanning, talking, and laughing. Steve chucks a football far enough to make Bucky sprint after it, but he trips over a kid's abandoned sandcastle head-first. You thought you could find reprieve in the water after a few minutes of just staring at your toes in the sand while Sam talked about bar-hopping last night. You watched Natasha follow you into the water the same way a bleeding seal watches a circling shark's fin.
"Haven't I?" You ask, your eyes briefly passing over Natasha's form. She watches you flounder in the water. You're wishing and hoping for a wave to swallow you whole right now.
"I wouldn't have said anything if that were true."
"Right," you run a shaky hand through your hair and collect yourself enough to look Natasha in the eyes once more. She's closer now, your eyes dive into the shrinking space between you and her.
"Did I do something to upset you?"
Your eyes resurface, landing on hers, "no, not at all!"
Natasha moves closer, you fight the urge to look away, you can't let her think you don't like her.
Because you do, you do like her. So much so that you can't focus on her in that bikini for more than mere seconds. Any longer and you just might faint, or melt into the sand, or both.
You're in a staring contest with her now, you're determined to count every speck of amber floating in her deep green eyes and--
Natasha is moving even closer now, this time she goes left--then right--then left again--your eyes track her perfectly, not once straying away from her pupils.
"Huh," she tilts her head in amusement as a small wave swells and rolls through you both before crashing onto shore. You still don't break eye contact, only letting your eyes bounce around the borderlands of her irises.
"You can't look at me, can you?" Natasha smirks and you flinch, finally blinking.
"I'm looking at you right now?"
"At my eyes, yes," another wave rolls by, a bit bigger than the last, "but only my eyes."
You swallow down a wad of nerves. Natasha is a riptide ready to pull you under. You’re thinking about how hard you need to push against the Earth below you to get out of the water as fast as humanly possible.
“I’m just—“
“Being respectful, I know baby,” Natasha cuts you off—you’re too stuck on how easily those words rolled off her tongue to notice that her bare torso is only a hair away from touching yours.
Another wave, even bigger this time, throws Natasha off balance, sending her right into you. Your arms quickly shoot out to catch her while her own arms hook around your neck to steady herself. You’re actually looking at her, scanning her body for anything that can tell you this is just a fluke. Your mind is screaming at you to let her go and bolt but your body betrays you by keeping her close.
By the time you both collided, the water had risen high enough to kiss the space right below your chests. To the rest of the beach, you both basically look floating heads. You admire Natasha’s profile as she looks out towards the beach for a few moments before turning her attention on you. You barely catch the stormy look in her eyes before you’re reminded of her arms around your neck when her nails graze the base of your skull.
“Do I make you nervous?” Her tone is dark now. Your body goes rigid while your mind fumbles around for an answer. You nod, no use in lying now, not when Natasha could probably feel your heart beating against your rib cage since she’s so close.
“Say it.”
“Yes, you make me nervous,” you do a piss-poor job of trying to keep your voice from trembling with want. Natasha’s lips curl into a smile and she chuckles. You start seeing stars.
“Don’t be,” Natasha starts to pull you impossibly closer and you meet her halfway. She only gives you a few seconds to process the fact that she’s kissing you before she slides her thigh between your legs. Your spine feels a chill under the hot sun.
“Do you wanna be good for me?”
You couldn’t look any dopier, nodding with your jaw hanging low.
“Words baby.”
“Yes,” you sound dumber than you look.
“Then start humping.”
You cough like you just swallowed a gallon of saltwater, “what?”
“I know you heard me.”
“Right…right now?” You sputter, frantically looking back towards the beach, “in front of everyone?”
Natasha roughly grabs you by the chin to pull your attention back to her.
“Start. Humping.”
Her hand lowers to clamp around your throat and that makes your knees buckle. Your arms tighten around her waist and your body dips down until you feel her thigh against your core. You let out a surprised grunt and Natasha smirks while she watches you begin to find a rhythm. It feels good, too good to stop. Your eyes flutter and threaten to roll back into your head, your body overwhelmed by how much you want this, how much you wanted to do this for a while.
“You look deliciously pathetic you know that right? Humping my leg for everyone to see,” Natasha mocks as your pace hastens. You rest your forehead on her shoulder to try and keep yourself afloat.
“Fuck,” you hiss, grinding harder and faster against Natasha’s thigh. You’re not even going to chance a look to see if anyone is actually watching you both. The longer this goes on, the less you seem to care anyway. You litter the sun kissed window of her cleavage with sloppy, desperate, open-mouthed kisses. Your hands groping and grabbing at her waist, her thighs, her ass, anything that can help you get a better grip and bring you as close as you can get to her without having to jump into her skin.
“So needy—like you’ve been dreaming about this,” she teases, you blush. Her hand glides from the back of your head to the tip of your chin and lifts it, “look at me.”
You obey without a second thought, a small whimper escaping your lips when you do.
“That’s it,” she patronizingly coos as her nails dig a little deeper into your jaw, it stings in the best way.
When you finally look around, you realize the water isn’t covering you as much as it was a bit ago.
“Shit, the tide—” your movements start to slow, but there’s no chance you’re stopping.
“Better hurry then,” Natasha’s hand on your jaw moves down to your throat to give it another squeeze, “you want to cum for me, don’t you?”
“Yes,” you manage to choke out, your whole body is buzzing.
“Then don’t keep me waiting, or else everyone will get to see what a pitiful fucking sight you are right now.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” you don’t waste another second to quicken the movement of your hips. Before you know it, your senses are electrified, the pressure against your cunt becomes borderline overwhelming.
“I’m—I’m close—" You stammer against her neck, your hips bucking erratically against her thigh. You feel her laugh rumbling through your lips when you open your eyes and—
“Fuck.”
“Whiny little mutt,” Natasha scoffs.
“No, there’s…there’s a wave coming right at us,” your eyes widen but you don’t stop, you’re too close to give up. You keep going, growing more frenzied as the wave swells to the biggest one you’ve seen since you been here.
You only get moments to appreciate the high you worked so hard to chase before you have to throw yourself and Natasha under the so it doesn’t wipe you out.
You both come up laughing, Natasha pulls you in for a kiss, smiling against each other’s lips.

SUMMARY: EVER SINCE THAT CASE, BOBBY INSISTED THAT YOU STICK AROUND WITH SAM AND DEAN. WHILE YOU GREW TO BE PART OF THE TEAM, THERE WERE SOME THINGS ABOUT YOU THAT DEAN COULDN’T SHAKE FROM HIS HEAD, LIKE YOUR COFFEE PROBLEM.
TW: ADDICTION, SLEEPY DEAN, CLOSED-OFFISH READER, MEMORY OF DEATH, INSOMNIA
NOW PLAYING:
• HAPPINESS IS A BUTTERFLY BY LANA DEL REY

DEAN LIKED HIS sleep, but it didn’t mean he lost his sixth sense of when someone’s moving about in his room, right? So when he blinked his bleary eyes away, rubbed one with the heel of his palm and a silent yawn and lifted off his stomach to peer at the — intruder? threat? — stranger who was currently sitting on the sofa and sipping a cup of coffee.
About four more littered the sink.
“Sweetheart,” His voice came out raspier than he expected, but he braved it anyway, swinging his legs off the bed— nope, he’s in boxers, let’s just slip some sweats on before he even thinks of talking to you. Yep, done. So then he walked over to you, sitting beside you and taking the coffee out of your hand with a small tsk.
All he got was a deadpan from you. “I was drinking that.” Still, you didn’t protest when he set it far away from you.
“Coffee in the morning’s a pick me up.” Dean replied, sniffing a little— y’know, the extra hard sniff that you do to clear a sleepy-ass head. “Coffee at one am is a pick your poison. Y’gotta stop.”
You groaned— you didn’t think you would be berated by Dean “Princess” Winchester at any point, but here you were. Berated. “And who’s this coming from?”
“Hopefully, a friend.” He couldn’t exactly say anything, he was prone to beer drinking at three if it took his fancy, but still, this? It ain’t normal. But still, he wanted the confirmation that you weren’t in the stranger zone at this point. “Try to sleep, sweetheart.”
A mini staring contest.
But, of course, Dean won out, so you groaned, nodded, rubbing your eyes, god, could you win against this man? “Fine, princess. Just for you, yeah?”
“I know.” He patted your back, then gestured to the bed. “C’mon.” God, you hated how his voice sounded like he was coddling a child into bed, but you weren’t concerned either, he just wanted the best.
“Yeah, yeah.” You sighed, standing up with him, then faced him. “Princess.”
“Sweetheart.”

I Don't Like You - Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader
This was based on a dream I had about Sam and Torrez teasing for being jealous over Bucky having a 'girlfriend' and they way of proving that I don't is a staring contest and after that I got as little carried away which you can see by the word count.
Word count: 4553 Warnings: Angst, jealousy, mentions of blood (nothing descriptive), not edited I think that's it but please let me know of anything else.
“You know I can’t make eye contact” she glares at Sam, unintentionally making eye contact with him where he sits across the table from her.
“You seem to be doing just fine now” he retorts with a smug grin on his face.
“Yeah well it’s easy to do with people I don’t like” she responds, trying not to let herself give in and laugh at his dramatics as he clutches a hand to his chest as he pitifully asks, ‘you don’t like me?’ Instead she settles on a roll of her eyes as she responds, “Not at the minute no”
“Should be easy for you then seeing as you ‘don’t like him” Torrez chimes in quoting her from just moments ago when they accused her of liking Bucky and being jealous that he has a girlfriend and their way of proving it, for her to hold eye contact with him for more than thirty seconds.
“I don’t and you two are just being childish” she huffs, knowing that there is no way she is getting out of it without doing as they ask and revealing her secret feelings for Bucky.
“We wouldn’t have to be like this if you’d just admit the crush you're harbouring on our resident super soldier” Sam pushes again.
“Resident super soldier? I thought that was Steve” she deflects, it’s a low blow to them all but she’s had enough.
“Don’t be a smart ass” Sam responds, all the light hearted foolery gone from moments before.
She sighs, giving in, “Fine let’s just get this over with” as she turns in her seat to face Bucky who has not said a word this entire time which seemed a little strange but then again it wasn’t as if said much anyway. Settling back into her seat as she still tries to feign control over the situation that has rapidly spiralled out of her control, she waits for Bucky to signal he's ready and then Sam's counting them in.
With one final sigh she gives in and meets Bucky's eyes and as cliche as it sounds she can feel herself getting lost in the blue of them as the noise of the cafeteria seems muffled, even forgetting about Sam and Torrez watching the two of them intently. This is dangerous, she needs to pull away but then that would only confirm what they already know so she forces herself to hang in there until she's in the clear but then they breeze right through it. Neither she nor Bucky seem to hear Sam's countdown, nor when Torrez tells them they're done, it's only when Sam sticks a hand between them and interrupts their line of sight do they finally snap out of it.
She doesn't know if it's just her imagination but Bucky seems just as dazed as her as they blink the world back into focus, the noise around them resuming its original volume. “See I told you I didn't like him” she stutters out, her voice breaking as she rounds on their audience.
“No, no, nope you have just confirmed that you do if anything” Sam corrected her.
“No the bet was that I could hold eye contact if I didn't like him, I think you've had too many hits to the head and it's making you confused” she says through gritted teeth.
“Yeah but do you not feel the electricity between the two of you, I can feel it on the other side of the table” Torrez chimes in, drawing her attention from a smirking Sam, “Yeah, I uh think if I get any closer I'm literally going to get zapped” he adds with a laugh which Sam joins in on.
“You know what I don't need this” she huffs, flustered and embarrassed, avoiding looking at Bucky as she pushes her chair back and storms away from the table, ignoring the calls of her name from Sam.
In fact she avoids them for the next few days, which is a challenge since she's with them on missions but she disappears as soon as she gets the chance, not hanging around them for any longer than she has to. Until she has no choice.
“Okay intel says our target is going to be here tonight” Torrez reveals, sliding two invites across the table towards where she and Bucky stood. She didn't even need to look down at them to know it'd been some fancy party that would require them to dress the part, she'd read enough of the packet they'd been given on him to know it'd be his type of thing.
“Your job is to..”
“Let me guess we're going in undercover with some made up alias that you've managed to convince our target need to attend” she spoke, interrupting Torrez who was only trying to do his job and deliver the brief of the mission to them but the air between them was as tense now as it had been when she walked out on them last week.
“Yes and no, I'm not involved in this one” Sam reveals, his voice sounding strained as he adds, “You and Bucky are, you'll be undercover as a married couple interested in joining their enterprise”
“Married couple?” She choked out, he really had to be joking, “Surely you could have come up with something else” she added, directly her glare towards Torrez now as if she was blaming him for it.
Sam shook his head, “Our target has a certain special interest in the ladies, we need you to play into it” he explained.
“And him?” She asked, gesturing to Bucky at her side.
“He's needed because believe it or not he's more intimidating than either of us two” Sam replies motioning between himself and Torrez, “Plus he has the super soldier serum running through his veins and a metal arm, if it does go down hill you're gonna need him” he adds as if it's an afterthought but them he's sees the look on her face and knows exactly what she's going to try and argue. “He's more subtle than the wings and we can't sneak in any guns as there's a metal detector on the way in”
“Metal detector? He's got a fucking vibranium arm, how are you going to sneak that in?” She asks in disbelief and yeah she might be taking this too far but she's too far gone to even try and rein it back in.
“He's part of an experimental trial offering upgraded prosthetics to war veterans” Torrez states and finally she had no comeback as they really had thought of everything.
Her shoulders sagged, the fight went out of her as she realised that there was no way out of this, she was going to have to play nice with Bucky. “How much time do we have?” She asks.
“You'll be leaving in just under two hours” Sam confirms as he motions for Torrez to grab the bags hung on the wall opposite them, “Your outfits, you better hurry”
She stands in front of the full length mirror in the makeshift dressing room admiring the black floor length dress she'd been given. The high neckline that dropped into a deep v at the bottom of her back and the thigh high split on the right side of the dress, it had certainly been picked with care as it was sure to draw their targets attention.
And it seems Sam, Torrez and Bucky's as she met them back in the main room where Torrez had set up his surveillance equipment, ready to be their eyes and ears on the ground. Bucky moved to say something as she came to a stop in front of him, warmth flooding through her under his gaze. “Don't, let's just get this over with” she tells him, instead accepting the arm he offers her as they head out to the waiting car.
Bucky adjusts his tie as the car begins to drive, face scrunched up in discomfort as he fiddles with it. “Hey, here let me help?” She offers, sliding closer to him before he can even reply as she's seriously concerned he's going to manage to strangle himself with it from the way he's tugging on it. She reaches her hands up, sliding under the stark white collar to check the tie is not twisted before loosening the knot that rests at the base of his neck. “Better?” She asks after straightening the length of the tie and pulling her hands away from him, aware of his heavy gaze that had been on her since she slid across the leather seat to help him.
“Don't think it was wrong, just makes me feel claustrophobic wearing it” he grumbles slouching back into the seat.
“Then don't wear it” she suggests, they may be playing different parts tonight but if he can't learn to live with it then it has to go. They can't risk their target seeing through their façade just because Bucky can't cope with a tie, “dump it and undo the top few buttons, it looks hotter like that anyway” she shrugs casually as if she hadn't just hinted to Bucky that she found him hot.
He looks down at her contemplating her words and she thinks that he may just deal with it as he's dealt with worse things than a tie in his years but then his hands come up to the tie. “‘Happy wife, happy life’ that's what they say nowadays, right?” He asks as the tie falls from his neck and he focuses on undoing the top few buttons as she instructed.
“Yeah, guess so,” she replies, “doesn’t really apply to us though” she adds, feeling the need to remind him that they aren’t together so he can do what he pleases; it has nothing to do with her as long as it doesn’t compromise the mission.
They breeze through security checks, clearly having gotten Torrez’s memo about the ‘prosthetic’ and then they’re joining the party. She guides Bucky along to the bar where she flashes the server a wide smile. “I’ll have a gin and tonic and your finest whiskey please” she tells him with a wink as she hears Bucky grumble beside her.
“Do you really think now's the best time for a drink”
She smiles playfully up at him, batting her lashes as she pushes up on her toes so that she can lean into whisper into his ear. To anyone around the pair it would look like an intimate moment between lovers but really it’s just a ploy so that she can talk to him without anyone listening in, other than Sam and Torrez that is. “We need to play the part, blend in but I can get you a water if you’d prefer” she explains before pulling away, glad that he’s managed to hide his surprise at her sudden closeness.
The barman interrupts their little moment, setting the drinks down on the counter in front of them and their total. She bats her eyes yet again at Bucky who simply rolls his eyes and reaches into his pocket for his wallet to pay as she reaches for her drink and takes a sip as he hands the money over. Honestly she'd feel bad having him pay if she didn't know that he'd be compensated for it once the mission was completed, besides it wasn’t her fault she had nowhere to keep any money in the dress that had been chosen for her.
“Now what?” Bucky asks and she thinks it's mainly because she took charge to begin with that he thinks she has some idea of how the night will play out.
“We wait” she states, taking another sip of her drink as she scans the room for any sign of their target yet she finds none.
Time draws on and one drink turns into another, another that she tries to nurse for as long as she can without seeming suspicious as she can't afford to lose her head. She is slightly jealous of Bucky's tolerance to alcohol but then again he does have the advantage of the super soldier serum course through his veins but she can tell he's just as on edge as she is. They've been waiting too long with no sign of the man they came here for, in fact she was just about to suggest they call it when a woman approached them.
She felt Bucky tense beside her, his automatic instincts to protect kicking in as he slid an arm around her waist which seemed to settle him for the moment. The unnamed woman addresses them, well their aliases, and informs them that she had been sent by their target and if they'd like to follow her.
Both she and Bucky felt something was off and she could only hope that Sam would be ready with back up if they needed it. Following her through the crowd towards a door at the back of the hall they were in, she led them through a maze of hallways that she struggled to keep track of until they were led into a room where stood the man they had come here for.
“Ah come in, come in” he greeted the two of them, gesturing for them to take a seat on the plush chairs in front of him. “We have lots to discuss” he beamed, nodding to the woman they still didn't know the name of as she took her exit of the room and shut the door behind her. It did nothing to ease the tension both her and Bucky felt but they were trapped with nowhere to run. “Sorry for all the secrecy tonight but as you can well imagine our work is only known to a select few so it did come as a surprise to be sought out directly” he explained turning his attention back to him.
“Yes but you were highly recommended” she spoke, hoping to clear up any suspicions he may have as she forced her body to relax into the seat.
“So you said in your enquiry” he stated as he perched on the edge of the desk in front of her with barely a glance in Buckys direction but that was to be expected. “Though I don't understand how you came to find out about our operations here” he asked, leaning forward towards her.
She repeated the name of the guy they had busted that had identified him as the head of operations and that to pull the plug on it all they would need to take him out. “We were looking to expand our opportunities and he said that you may be able to help” she answered, laying it on thick that they needed his help in hopes of appealing to his ego.
“I could but you see there is one slight problem I have, you've come to me right after his arrest, now pardon me for the accusation but as you can well understand the last thing I need is the authorities butting their nose into things” he stated, a knowing look being thrown their way. “So as a protocol I did some digging into you two only to find nothing, so now you see that was your first mistake” he smirked, pushing from the table in favour of pacing in front of them as if he hadn't just revealed that he knew that their intentions were false. “Now imagine my surprise when I found out that the former Winter Soldier and a government agent wanted to meet with me, most would have declined but not me, I have a proposal for you both” he reveals, speaking to the both of them but his eyes never leave her as he comes to a stop in front of her.
Out of the corner of her eye she can see Bucky tense as he gets closer to her, ready to make a move if he even thinks about harming her but instead he reaches out a hand to cup her chin, forcing her to look at him. She rolls her eyes at how predictable his words were, “Why would we want to work for you?” She replies, her words laced with venom as she tries to pull her face from his hold.
He releases her face without complaint, “Well there’s the perks of the sale, being in charge of your own operations and,” he smirks, leaning in closer so that his mouth was by her ear, “for you sweet thing, we could work out a little something extra” he whispers before moving back to her face.
She grimaces at his words, watching as he leans into her, head angled in preparation to kiss her but she doesn’t let him get that far. She spits in his face, feeling a sense of relief as he pulls away, unable to hide his disgust as he wipes his face with the back of his hand. Though the look doesn’t last that long as his smirk returns, “Feisty, now I can see why the soldier likes you so much” he says finally turning his attention away from her and back to Bucky as if he’s just remembered he’s still in the room. When she follows his gaze, Bucky’s hands are gripping the armrest of the chair so hard that she’s surprised it’s not broken and his eyes are set hard against the man in front of them in a way she can only describe as a look to kill.
“Now of course you can say no but I’m afraid that won’t end well for either of you” he adds, almost as if it’s an afterthought as he moves away from the two of them to sit back against the desk.
Bucky speaks for the first time since they entered the room, “What makes you think it’ll end badly for us, like you said I’m the former Winter Soldier I’ve gotten out of worse than this”
The man in front of them chuckles, “Oh I’m sure you have but there’s one major difference this time you didn’t have your little girlfriend with you”
She see’s Bucky’s jaw tighten yet he doesn’t argue his words, “No but we do have back up” he counters which doesn’t even seem to phase their target.
“Oh right” he smiles, tapping his ear as he hints towards their in-ears and their contact with Sam and Torrez but now she thinks about it the two of them have been surprisingly quiet all evening. “That was your second mistake, once you entered the building they ceased to work, protocol you see” he simply shrugged.
The malfunction certainly didn’t go amiss with Sam and Torrez over in their makeshift control room, “When was the last time we heard from them?” Sam urged, one hand on the back of Torrezs' chair and the other on the table he sat at.
“Just before they entered, they must have some kind of communications blocker but we still have visual at least” he answered, bringing up on the screen the image of her and Bucky at the bar. “Doesn’t like him my ass, look at the two of them” he snickered watching her push up onto her toes to talk into Bucky’s ear, “and look at him, didn’t you say he had a girlfriend?” Torrez looks confused as he rounds on Sam.
Sam sighs, “Just a wind up to push them together but we’ve got more important things to worry about now, like whoever this is” he reminds Torrez as he points to the woman approaching the pair on screen. “Can you follow them?” Sam asks as Torrez nods, his fingers moving against the keyboard as he switches between the cameras to follow them to wherever they are being led.
He follows them through the maze of corridors, only losing sight of them when they enter the room at the end of the corridor and they can only watch helplessly when the woman leaves the room again without them. “Can you figure out where in the building they are?” Sam questions, moving around behind him.
“Why? You going in?” Torrez questions, trying to figure out how Sam could possibly sneak past the beefed up security.
“No, I’m sending in Red Wing” he replies, already having Red Wing ready and waiting for instructions. With no more questions to ask Torrez gets to work finding their location in the building within minutes and sending it to Sam.
It takes longer than Sam would like for Red Wing to find the window into the room where he can see her and Bucky seated in front of their target who has his back to the window, thankfully. It also seems that she and Bucky miss his presence as well which works out better for him by giving him the element of surprise but more importantly he can hear what's being said in the room.
“Now if you’ve made your decision because I have a party to get too”
Sam sees him move his hand to press a button, to what he assumes is connected to his goons to let them know to come in, not that Sam was willing to take that chance. Without a second thought he engaged Red Wings targeting system so as to lessen the chance of hitting the other two in the room.
At the first sound of the shattering Bucky was quick off the chair and pulling her into him so he could use his body to shield her from any stray bullets as neither of them knew what was happening, let alone that it was Sam coming to save them. The sound of the bullets drew in the guards who came running straight into the bullets and ending up as the same fate of their master. Once the bullets stopped and there were no more guards appearing did Bucky finally peek out to see none other than Red Wing hovering by the window. Moments later the sound of the fire alarm going off drew the both of them to their senses, “We have to get out of here” she urges, tugging on Bucky’s arm.
Bucky follows without complaint, taking her hand and taking off through the door and through the hallways that he’d memorised on the way here knowing that they would probably have to make a quick getaway and they couldn’t afford to get lost in the maze.
“Wait Bucky, need to get these heels off” she panted next to him, running was not her favourite thing but running in stilettos was definitely at the top of the list of least favourite things to do.
“No time” he stated, reaching for her and hoisting her up over his shoulder as she shrieked in surprise as he took off running again.
When they made it back to the main hall where guests were still evacuating, he placed her back onto her feet and led her into the crowd of people as they tried to blend in to make their way outside. Thankfully Sam had their driver waiting for them and only once they were in the safety of the car away from the chaos did they finally breathe a sigh of release.
Bucky turned to her, eyes skimming over her body, “Are you okay? No cuts, no blood?” he questioned as she looked down at her body.
“I think I’m good,” she confirmed, “you?” She added turning her attention back to him and noticing the tears in his jacket, probably from where he pulled them both to the floor covered in the broken glass but otherwise he looked unharmed.
“Don’t need to worry about me doll, I’ve been through worse” he chuckles and she doesn’t appreciate that he doesn’t seem to care for his own well being after that but that was something to discuss another time.
“Hey, thank you for protecting me back there” she says, softly leaning against his side instead of looking at him because she didn’t think she’d be able to hide her feelings from him.
Bucky wraps an arm around her, holding her close, “No need to thank me, that’s what I was there for, remember” he smiles down at her.
“I’m serious Buck, I’ve been awful to you for the past week and you haven’t done anything wrong, I’m sorry” she pouts pulling away from him so that he can see that she really does mean it, she’s just too scared to admit that she likes him.
Bucky’s face softens, “I get it, really and I don’t blame you, the others pushed you to do something you were uncomfortable with just to prove a point that didn’t need proving,” he speaks with a sad smile on his face, “I’m sorry I didn’t stop them” he adds, reaching over to cup her cheek but it all feels oddly intimate for someone who supposedly already has a girlfriend, but she blocks it out as she automatically leans into his touch.
“You don’t, not really, I don’t dislike you quite the opposite but it doesn’t really matter because you’re already taken” she sighs, finally coming to her senses and pulling away from his touch. Bucky doesn’t respond as she pulls away, her head leaning back against the headrest as she closes her eyes to block it all out. She knows it’s because she’s messed up by confessing to him and that it’s only going to make their team even more awkward than she’s already made for the past week. In fact she’s so lost in her own thoughts about maybe asking to transfer teams that she misses Bucky shifting beside her until she feels his breath against her face.
Opening her eyes she fights the urge to scream in surprise as she hadn’t expected him to be so close but she recovers just as quick, knowing that it’s Bucky, “You know I don’t actually have a girlfriend, right?” He questions, seriousness written all over his face that she believes him, “I’ve not even been looking because I’d already found her but I didn’t know she felt the same until now” he smiles as she stutters in surprise at his confession. Stutters that are silenced by the soft press of his lips against hers as he gives her the space to pull away if she wants but she doesn’t, instead she winds her arms around his shoulders to pull him closer as she presses harder against him, savouring the feeling of his lips and the knowledge that he feels the same.
They’re so lost in each other that they don’t even realise the car has stopped moving, they only realise when the car door opens and Sam’s voice sounds out of nowhere. “You don’t like him, huh?” he teases, thankful that his friends are back in one piece.
She groans as they pull away from each other and Bucky, already having had enough of Sam, pushes his flesh hand into Sam’s face and uses that to push him away from the door so they can get out. Sam’s laughing as they get out of the car and despite his teasing, he’s happy that the two of them finally got together, even if it meant he’d have to probably break up multiple make out sessions while they’re on future missions.

A/N: Two chapters in one night. I did plan for this chapter to cover the whole of episode two of FATWS however, I also don't like the chapters being too long so here's the first half.

Your heart pounded in your chest as you scrambled for the remote, turning up the volume. On the screen, a man clad in red, white, and blue filled the screen as he stood tall, winking at the camera. The new Captain America.
Racing with questions, your mind couldn’t stop. How could they replace Steve like that? And who the fuck even was this new Captain America? Was he even worthy of carrying the shield?
Frustration and anger boiled your blood, mixing with the hurt from Bucky’s appearance the day before. The world felt like it was spinning out of control, and tears began to trickle down your cheeks.
Taking a deep breath, you wiped away the tears and forced yourself to focus. With determination, you got up and made your way to find Sam.
~
“You had no right to give up the shield, Sam.” you listened to Bucky and Sam talk about the situation as they made their way closer to you. Not yet noticing your presence.
“Hey. This is what you’re not gonna do.” an amused smile tugged at the corners of your lips as Sam began to tell Bucky straight, “You’re not gonna come here in your overextended life and tell me about my rights. It’s over Bucky.”
Applause echoed through the room, drawing the attention of Sam and Bucky. Bucky’s gaze locked with yours, while Sam’s eyes rolled.
“You too?” Sam’s voice filled with annoyance as he addressed you. Your smile remained as you stepped forward.
“How could I resist this party?” you quipped, voice laced with amusement. “Sam, you know I respect your decision,” you sent him a sincere smile as his expression softened at your words. He was grateful for your support, now and back in Washington. “But, we need to fix this.”
“I have bigger things to deal with now,” Sam exclaimed, taking both you and Bucky by surprise. “What could be bigger than this?” Bucky asked, his disbelief was evident.
You listened to Sam and Bucky go back and forth about the group called the Flag Smashers and The Big Three. You were on Bucky’s side about the wizards, but you knew agreeing with Sam would rile him up.
As the conversation carried on, you felt a sense of urgency. Without a second thought, you began walking toward the waiting jet. “Where do you think you’re going?” Bucky called out to you, his tone mixed with frustration and concern.
As you reach the jet, you turn to face Bucky, “I’m going with Sam,” you stated firmly, meeting his gaze. Bucky’s gaze hardened as both he and Sam walked towards you, you heard them bickering between each other but resulted in rolling your eyes as you boarded.
~
The flight to Germany was quiet for the most part, there was an occasional interruption from the rumble of the jet’s engine. You found yourself consistently checking your phone for texts from your date, and stealing glances between Sam and Bucky. They had been engrossed in a silent staring contest for most of the flight. Their unspoken tension filled the cabin.
“Is that your boyfriend?” Bucky’s snarky remark cut the tension, his annoyance evident as he observed your constant glances down to your phone.
You raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on your lips. “Jealous, Barnes?” you teased. He rolled his eyes at your response. You tucked your phone away, ready to turn your attention to the mission.
As the journey to Germany continued, Bucky and Sam returned to their staring contest, only breaking again when Sam got up to pick his comm up. Bucky followed his lead and you followed Bucky’s. And, within an instant, they returned to their arguing: This time about a plan.
“Where’s the chute?” Bucky asked, resulting in finding out you were too low for them. He looked back at you with concern, he knew he could survive the jump, but you wouldn’t. You knew you couldn’t afford to waste time, it was too risky to attempt jumping with Bucky.
“I’ll catch up with you from the ground,” you reassured the super soldier, his concern was palpable as he looked back at you. His eyes betrayed him as they filled with worry.
He nodded, reaching his Vibranium hand to your cheek and running his fingers down your neck. A shiver was sent down your spine, you missed the cool feeling of his left hand. “Be careful, baby,” he whispered in your ear before turning to prepare for the jump. You watched him as you allowed yourself a moment to apprehend the feeling of being called ‘Baby’ by him again.
~
Stepping out onto the solid ground, you felt the urge of determination course through you. You heard over the comms that Sam and Bucky wasted no time, they immediately sprung into action. Immediately, you began searching for a car you could use to catch up to them. Your mind focused solely on reaching them, you wasted nothing rushing towards a car you knew would be fast enough. Using your government identity to secure it, you thanked the salesman and wasted no time roaring the engine and speeding off in the direction of Sam and Bucky.
As you sped toward their location, Sam updated you on the tracking information for Redwing over the comms. “Shit!” Bucky’s exclaim echoed through the small earpiece, you pressed down harder on the gas pedal, determined to reach them.
Finally reaching their location, you witnessed Sam swiftly grabbing Bucky from under the truck, and soaring with him into a nearby field. Meanwhile, you continued to trail behind the truck, your eyes widening in surprise as you noticed the new Captain America engaged in a fight on top of it.
“Those are Super Soldier, kid, get out of there.” Bucky’s voice was urgent as it crackled through the comms, his concern for you still evident as he warned you of the danger.
Your voice was laced with determination as you responded, “Don’t call me ‘kid’.” You prepared to face the Super Soldier head-on. As you prepared mentally, you didn’t see the new Captain America about to collide with the car. The impact was catastrophic, causing you to lose control of the vehicle and tumble off the road and into the woodland area by the field.
Before you could register what had happened, new Cap and his friend had vanished. Sam and Bucky were by your side in an instant. “I told you to be careful,” Bucky reminded you as he gently pulled you from the wreckage, steadying you.
~
As Sam and Bucky conversed between themselves, you found comfort in intertwining your fingers with Bucky’s, his silent gesture of support. A chill swept over you, causing your body to tremble.
Coming to a halt, Bucky crouched down to meet your gaze as concern plastered over his face. “You okay?” he asked, noting the shallow and rapid rise and fall of your breathing. You nodded, feeling the chill of shock settling.
Bucky swiftly removed his jacket and draped it over you. Despite the absence of his left sleeve, the jacket still provided warmth and comfort.
After walking for a while longer, the sound of a horn honking beside you caught the attention of the three of you. You looked up, meeting the gaze of the new Captain America. John Walker, Sam had explained to you previously. Despite his efforts to engage in conversation, you followed Sam and Bucky’s lead, choosing to ignore them.
However, it didn’t take long for Walker to provoke a reaction out of Bucky, unknowingly circling back to the topic of wizards. This led to Bucky defending the Captain America title, causing a rise now out of Walker. After realizing that Bucky was unfazed, Walker shifted his approach, acknowledging the state you were currently in.
“Look, it’s 20 miles to the airport. You guys need a ride.” Walker offered, and he tried to convey a sense of goodwill despite the unlying tension. Your eyes pleaded with Bucky as he glanced down at you. Walker might not have been your choice of Captain America but the idea of sitting down sounded appealing.
Bucky assisted you into the car with a sigh. You couldn’t but grimace inwardly as you locked glances with Walker the moment he shot you the same wink you had seen earlier on television. The one moment you wouldn’t have protested Bucky throwing a punch for someone looking at you, and he misses it.
You nestled your head against Bucky’s shoulder as they discussed the issue of The Flag Smashers. With each glance from Walker toward you, Bucky's body tensed beneath you, prompting an episode of the infamous Bucky stare-off.
“Does he always just stare like that?” Walker asked Sam, a smile tugged at your lips at the thought of Bucky’s intense stare making Walker so uncomfortable, he needed reassurance. “You get used to it,” Sam huffed in response. The conversation resumed as they spoke about the government and what they were trying to do to help after The Blip.
“Battlestar?” Bucky exclaimed, a sense of annoyance mixed with amusement in his voice. “Stop the car!” He commanded the driver. The car came to a halt and Bucky wasted no time to exit leaving Walker shouting back toward him. “Come on, Y/N!” Bucky’s voice boomed a clear demand for you to follow him.
For a moment you debated if you should follow your ex-situationship or simply stay in the car and avoid walking the rest of the way to the airport.

🍜 Sick Day 🤗 Cuddling These were so cute together, I did both! Thanks for sending in a prompt!
"You look terrible," Bucky greeted as he set down two giant to-go containers of soup from Mrs. Bray down the street.
Sam was wrapped up in his mama's old quilt on the couch, staring straight ahead, ashen and sweaty and a few days past a shower. He ended his staring contest with the wall and all the swimming colors that weren't actually moving so that he could glare at Bucky instead. "I'd ask if you were a hallucination, but I assume you appear to gloat no matter where you're stationed."
Bucky rolled his eyes and handed Sam a bottle of Ginger Ale. "Drink this while I go get a wet rag. You should take off that blanket."
"I'm freezing," Sam insisted. He did take the soda at least. Waited until Bucky wasn't in front of him to open it and down half of it in one go. "Why are you here?" he called without turning to look at whatever Bucky was digging through in the kitchen.
"My name is still on the deed, Wilson," Bucky pointed out. Then he was kissing Sam's temple after appearing from nowhere. He used Sam's distraction to take his temperature by pressing the back of his hand to Sam's cheek. "You're burning up. You really need to take off the blanket."
"I'm freezing," Sam repeated. He wasn't sure how to be any clearer. His hands were so cold and he was shivering so badly that he didn't think he could let go of the blanket anyway.
Bucky ran the cool, wet rag in his hand over Sam's face and down his neck. Sam would not admit that it felt really nice. When Bucky left it wrapped around the back of his neck, he reached up to move it to his forehead again. Bucky was opening the windows and the fresh air was so vastly different than the stuffy air of the house, Sam almost got sick all over again.
Reluctantly, he shrugged the blanket off and let it pool against the crevice of the back of the couch. He wanted it within grabbing distance. "Aren't you supposed to be, like, in Germany or something?"
"New York," Bucky corrected. He sat beside Sam and felt like a damn furnace. Where his thigh pressed along Sam's was like an open flame. Sam put his hands there. He'd snicker at the way Bucky jolted towards him if he had the energy to. Bucky kept his hands to himself though and got the soup containers open. He'd gotten spoons at some point and set one aside, settling back against the couch with one spoon and one soup.
"It's not toast water is it?" Sam asked warily.
"How do you know about toast water?" Bucky asked in amusement. "Been reading up on how I used to live or something?"
"My grandma was old too. You're not the only geriatric around me."
Bucky rolled his eyes fondly. "No, it's not toast water. It's bone broth. You need to replenish your electrolytes and get some protein in you."
"I hate bone broth," Sam resisted like a child. "I'm not hungry. I just wanna go back to sleep."
"Mrs. Bray sent you dumplings too," Bucky tempted. "If you eat some of this, we'll split the dumplings. Otherwise, I'm just gonna eat them myself."
"What are you doing here?" Sam asked again. "Why are you talking to the neighbors?"
"You passed out on a plane," Bucky said. "Did you think no one was gonna tell me about it?"
Sam shrugged. He took the spoon because he could feed his own damn self, but he let Bucky keep holding the tub of soup. His wrists hurt just looking at it. "It's just a bug," he mumbled.
"You passed out," Bucky repeated, stressed each word like it was the end of the world.
"I might have ignored it for a while," Sam admitted. No use hiding it now that the effects were out in the world.
"Sam," Bucky groaned.
Sam took several quick spoonfuls of the soup to avoid answering. "They already think I'm not strong enough to do it," he admitted after a few seconds of just soupy noises. Talk about something to turn his stomach over. He kept his eyes on the side of the container instead of looking up at Bucky. "I couldn't just drop out of a fight or divert a speech or cancel an event because my stomach hurt."
And now everything hurt and everything was tired and he still couldn't make the wall stop zooming in and out of his depth perception.
"Sweetheart," Bucky sighed. He set aside the soup, which was half empty, Sam was surprised to find, and took the spoon as well before he scooped Sam into his arms and laid back against their couch.
Sam went with him because he wouldn't have much of a choice with Bucky's arms around him when he was at full health, much less like this. He was always the weakest around Bucky. Instead, he just turned his face against Bucky's neck and drew in a stuttering breath. He'd missed this, even if he wasn't going to say that out loud. He put his arms around Bucky's midsection, though he couldn't get his hands beneath Bucky's back to really hold him close. Keep him from slipping off into the sunset, onto a jet to a secret group and secret mission without a phone and no way for Sam to get ahold of him. No cameras. No media. No updates. No chance for Sam to see his face.
"It's your fault," he mumbled against Bucky's collarbone. Bucky hummed and it vibrated Sam's skull and his aching brain. "I was too stressed out about you leaving. Fucked up my immune system. It does that, y'know. Stress."
"Yeah," Bucky agreed to some part of Sam's babbling. "I know. But now you don't have an excuse, so just go to sleep and get to feeling better."
"Maybe I don't wanna sleep here. Gonna get you sick," Sam argued, even though there was no force in the world that would get him up now.
"You're not gonna get me sick," Bucky snorted softly. "We could swap spit and not get me sick."
"We're not swapping spit until you apologize," Sam warned. Mostly. Bucky's hands started to rub over all of the sore, tight spots on Sam's back, so he lost his voice halfway through the sentence.
"Sorry for stressing you out until you got sick. Now you know what it feels like," he couldn't help but jabbing.
Sam rolled his eyes and Bucky sighed at the feeling of Sam's eyelashes against his skin. "I meant for leaving."
"Wasn't exactly my choice," Bucky muttered. And the venom in his voice made Sam believe him well enough.
"They were holding your pardon over your head, I guess," Sam mumbled.
Bucky was quiet, which wasn't uncharacteristic except that it was just the two of them, which did make it uncharacteristic because the only time Bucky wasn't chattering his ear off was when he was staring at Sam all dopey eyed. Sam didn't figure there was a lot of dopey eyes currently.
"What?" he asked, lifting his head with all the strength that it took to lift a couple of busses over his head too. "It wasn't about the pardon? You left for some other reason? Did you do something else?"
"No," Bucky snapped. His fingers hadn't stopped massaging Sam's muscles, but he was just getting tenser beneath Bucky's touch. Bucky's eyes softened a little again. "It wasn't my pardon. It was yours."
Sam went lightheaded for the umpteenth time over the last several days, but this one was different. Far more painful. "What?"
"Sam, you gotta know no one can hurt me by holding a gun to my head," he mumbled. Somehow, his eyes hadn't darted away from Sam's face. Sam would've looked away by now. But Bucky's stare was as intense as it ever was. "But you? You're my soft, vulnerable spot. My ribs pried away to expose my heart. I can't protect you any way except to put myself between the danger and you. They point a gun at you and I'm gonna step in front of it."
There was a fire burning through Sam's chest and racing along his soul and all the places it stretched to his in body, dragging fury along with it. But exhaustion chased right after, singeing the flickering flames. "They were gonna arrest Captain America if you didn't join their team?" he asked.
"It sounds stupid when you say it. It's not just about the pardon, Sam. It's everything. They know if they hold their thumb over a button with your name, I'll do whatever they want. I've got... I've got to protect you."
The exhaustion collapsed over the fury like a wave. Sam sagged against Bucky's chest. "I didn't ask you do to that."
"You didn't ask me to love you either. It just comes naturally," Bucky murmured. His brought his hand up to the back of Sam's neck, massaging there gently. It just about took Sam out.
"I'm gonna burn them to the ground," Sam mumbled, drifting off, into a darkness shaped like Bucky's shoulder and spread of hair. "This isn't over. This conversation isn't..."
"Yeah," Bucky agreed, far away. "I know, Sammy. There's dumplings for that part though."
Sam nodded. Well, he thought he did anyway. He was so close to falling asleep. It was just that his fingers were still so cold.
Then they weren't, folded against Bucky's palm, held up against his heartbeat coming through his ribs.
This is mine, he thought as the feeling of a kiss on his hair pushed him finally into sleep. I'm holding onto this forever. No one is taking it from me.

peter man?
chapter one: a not so fun necklace.
Peter Parker x Winterwidow/Buckynat's daughter! reader.
Dreams, by the Cranberries.
"Oh, my life is changing everyday... In every possible way."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her eyes darted between her father and her mother. Another staring contest, fun.
Her mothers green eyes staring into her father's icy blue ones.
Y/n just stood up and carefully walked out of the compound kitchen and into her room and saw Peter already there and she sighed, kicked her slippers off and jumped onto him, since he was laying on his bed and snuggled into his side.
"Hi Peter man." She said teasingly and earned an audible groan from him.
"Why are you calling me that..." he mumbled and wrapped his arms around her body and let her snuggle into him.
He had learned that snuggling was her way of coping with her past in the Red Room, a way to learn that physical contact can be okay.
"Because it's funny, Spider Parker." She giggles and looked up at him with her soft Y/e/c eyes and looked into his warm and comforting brown eyes.
But he can't be mad, he never wanted to not be snuggling her.
But that doesn't mean he can't get annoyed by her.
He groans loudly and rolled over on top of her, earning a loud 'Oomf' from her.
He laid on top of her, putting his whole body weight on her.
"Oh you asshole." She groans and he chuckles as he laid on her.
"C'mon, you enjoy it, don't lie." He said cheekily, and he put his hands on her stomach. His hand going her her shirt a bit, he felt her scars...but they made her fucking beautiful to him.
She rolled her eyes and held him tightly.
"Shut up..." She mumbled into his hair as he had his face in the crook of her neck. He giggles and traced her scares lightly, his rough and calloused hand on the scar tissue felt delicate.
He felt to coolness of her right bionic hand on the nape of his neck, people would beget all weird by it, but like how Natasha was with Bucky, he saw through the arm and just the person, the person whom they both truly love.
It was dinner time, all of the Avengers were sitting down eating.
And dinner always consisted of Bucky and Sam Arguing, Tony wiggling his eyebrows at Peter, Natasha glaring at Tony, Wanda reading the teens minds and giggling, Loki not caring for the young Peter but always giving encouraging smiles to Y/n, Thor not knowing whats going on, Bruce not caring really, Steve trying to calm down Bucky and Sam, Clint not caring and trying to eat, Somehow Vision even knows the love between Y/n and Peter.
In a nutshell it was normal until Pietro started something quiet interesting...
"Peter, Y/n?" He asked, his accent thick as he stood up. Everyone raised their eyebrows s he grabbed a fistful of pasta and threw it at Y/n.
"I declare, a food fight."
Everyone's eyes widen and Thor immediately threw garlic bread at the speedsters face. Tony lets out a cackle and threw a meatball at Steve's face.
Then a war had begun. Peter and Y/n had hid under the table with cookies in hand as the adults were throwing pasta all over each other.
Y/n giggles and Peter sighed and looked at her, her delicate features. And she turned and they made eye contact
And that was when it felt as if everything slowed down. Their eyes looking into one another, and they just felt so connected. And slowly, inch, by inch they leaned in... and they got so close, that only their noses touched.
He could smell her perfume, the addicting coffee, lavender and vanilla.
She was just addicting to him.
His left hand went to her cheek and the back of her neck, inching closer and closer...
Then Thor lifted the table up, and the two pulled away quickly and sh threw a cookie at him and jumped up, then helped Peter up, their faces bright red. Now, EVERYONE knew.
But, being the two hopeless idiots they didn't.
"Man of spiders! Lady of Metal Arms! I have found you!" Thor boomed happily and gave a knowing grin and wiggled his eyebrows in very, very obvious way.
Y/n was currently on her bed, with her mother, Wanda and Pepper stopped by to see what she missed since she missed dinner.
"You two almost kissed?!" Pepper yelled and Wanda shushed her and Natasha sighed.
"F.R.I.D.A.Y, can you sound proof the room?" Natasha said to the AI and the room became sound proof.
Natasha takes a deep breath then she started.
"Y/n Rebecca Barnes, you have to tell him you like him!" She yelled and stood up and started pacing while she spoke to her daughter.
"If you don't tell him he will never know!" Pepper nodded and added to Natasha.
"It is so clear he is in love with you!" Wanda nodded and also added.
"You know, I have never felt so much love for a person then he does for you..."
Y/n sighed and rubbed her temples and laid back on her bed, and groans, the metal of her hand helping her nerves.
But little did she know, that in Peters room. There was all of the boys trying to comfort a very, very anxious spider.
"Kid, if she didn't like you should would have pulled away or not lean in at all." Steve sighed and Bucky just looked uncomfortable.
Tony puts his hand on his shoulder and said.
"You should have made out with her quicker-"
"Stark! Do you forget that she is my daughter?" Bucky snapped and Tony chuckled and whispered to Peter.
"Don't forget about Papa-Bear." And Steve sighed as he had to restrain his childhood best friend.
"B-Buck! Don't you dare make me get Natasha." Steve said firmly and Bucky stopped and whispers.
"You wouldn't dare to get Natalia." He seethed out and Steve sighed and yelled.
"Natasha! Bucky is trying to kill another Stark."
Tony grimaced and everyone else had to stifle down a laugh. And Bucky just rolled his eyes as Natasha walked in and started speaking in rapid Russian with Bucky.
"Seriously, James? What did he do this time?" Natasha asked in Russian.
"He was talking about how he should have made out with our daughter earlier!" He responded.
All she did was let out a small chuckle and said.
"He has a point, James."
"Natalia, no."
"Natalia yes."
He scoffed and rolled his eyes as she dragged him out of the room and eventually all of the others walked out as well. After a few minutes, Y/n sneaked into his room, like usual, in her pajamas and snuggled into his side.
Something they do nightly, his arms around her waist and he face in his chest as she listens to his heart beat.
"Peter..?" She mumbled softly into his chest and he looked down at her and whispered.
"Yeah, princess?" She looked up and sighed as she nuzzled into him more.
"I'm scared..." she mumbled and he sighed and held her tightly.
"The nightmares?"
She nodded and he thought for a moment and he got close to her ear and whispered.
"You wanna stay with me?" She looked up and nodded, solace was what she needed.
He smiles and moved her so she could get under the sheets and blankets, he practically engulfed her with blankets and himself.
She giggles and nuzzled into his chest and mumbled.
"Good night, Peter man."
He didn't roll his eyes but he kissed her forehead and whispered.
"Good night, Stargirl." She blushed a deep magenta when he said her hero name, and when he kissed her forehead.
Lord he knew how to make her melt like a candle.
And just like that, she fell asleep.
In the arms with the one, and only guy she wants.
But the nightmares of her getting choked by The Winter Soldier and his metal arm will always come.
How his hand was a not so fun necklace.

Secret Santa | Bucky Barnes (5th Day of 🎄)
(Credits to the owner of this pic!)
We’re almost half way there! I hope I’m not boring you guys 😅 ya girl had a lot of fun writing this one!
Christmas Masterlist <- check out my other holiday fics!
~~~~
Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the year. It’s a time to be with family, friends and the people who love you. It’s a time where people give back to those in need. It’s a time where the world seems like there’s magic in the air.
It’s also a time where one can express their true feelings towards a special someone.
Though that seems like it’s easier said than done.
My fear of rejection has always held me back ever since I first met you. You have always been so constant and loyal and patient and loving… It's no wonder why I fell for you. You are a true beauty, anyone with common sense could see that. I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to tell you how I feel ever since I realized how important you became to me.
Every year, Tony likes to throw a big Christmas party filled with multiple people who I don’t really care so much for, if I’m being completely honest. Soon right after that event, he’ll throw a small one reserved for family and friends only. There, is where we have our annual Secret Santa and every year I’ve been waiting to draw up your name.
This year, I finally did.
I held onto your box carefully in my hand, making sure I don’t accidentally misplace it while I anxiously fidgeted with my free one as I looked for you in the small crowd. I spotted Steve and Nat chatting at the mini bar while she served him a drink. Bruce was too busy talking to Tony about some new science experiment he’s been working on and wanted his input. Sam chatted away with Thor while playing a losing game of darts against Clint. Why he chose to go against him, I’ll never know.
It seemed like everywhere I looked, the one person I wanted to see wasn’t there. I bit my bottom lip as my eyes continued to search around the room.
“She’s not here yet.”
“Yeah, I know I just – …” I looked to my right and saw Wanda standing next to me, a knowing smile on her face. “Who are you talking about?” She just chuckled and raised a quick eyebrow. “You know who.. Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Your thoughts were just so loud and I had to come over and help quiet them down.”
I bowed my head in embarrassment. “Sorry.” She shook her head. “Don’t be. It’s kinda cute seeing the White Wolf fawn over a girl.” My head lifted back up quickly as she continued. “We never get to see this side of Bucky. It’s a nice pace from the constant brooding and staring contests you and Sam get into.”
“We do not – ”
“Yes you do, but that’s besides the point. Your girl isn’t here yet so I took the liberty of calling her and asking where she was before coming to talk to you. She’s a few minutes away.” She gave me a small smile as I returned one back to her. “So um with that being said.. how long have you..?”
She held her hand up to stop me from talking. “A while. You’re not exactly quiet or subtle with your thoughts.” My face must’ve been crimson red as she just laughed. “Oh my God..” I covered my face with my hand and shook my head. “I am so sorry about that.. um.. you – you haven’t – ”
“Don’t worry, Bucky. I haven’t told anyone, so your secret is safe with me.” She made a motion of locking her lips with her fingers and throwing away the key. “It’s not mine to tell anyway.”
“Thank you.”
She glanced around the room and softly hummed to herself. My thoughts must’ve been too loud and now I’m just paranoid at how long she has heard me. “I didn’t say anything before because one, I wanted to spare you the embarrassment and two, I was too busy freaking out about the fact that you’re in love with my best friend and I’ve been wanting you two to get together since forever.”
I laughed at the absurdity and held your gift close to my chest. “I’m not sure what to say. I’m embarrassed either way.” She turned her head towards the entrance and smiled. “You should fix your tie, Mr. Barnes. Ms. Y/L/N is straight ahead.” I followed her gaze and felt the literal wind get knocked out of me.
There you stood in a dark red dress that hugged your curves perfectly. The v-neck accentuating your assets in the best way possible and the way your hips swayed side to side as you walked more confidently my way made my brain short circuit. You look absolutely breathtaking. “You got this, Bucky. I’m rooting for you.” Wanda spoke as she left my side to meet you halfway to greet you in a hug.
I watched as the two of you started a short conversation. My gaze drifted up and down your figure. You seemed to outshine all of Tony’s expensive decorations as you chatted away with your friend. I guess you seemed to notice the way my feet were glued to the floor and you suddenly made your way in front of me.
“Hey, you.” You smiled and opened your arms, your gift bag swinging back and forth in your hand. “Hey, doll.” I smiled and embraced you in my arms, your perfume overwhelming my senses and becoming intoxicating. I want to dive my face deeper into your neck until I can figure out that sweet scent of yours.
God, what is it you wear that makes you smell so heavenly?
Pulling away, I noticed the gift in your hand. I motioned over to the bag and asked, “Who’s it for?” You lifted it up and proudly smiled to yourself. “Okay, don’t tell, but it’s for Thor. For a guy who’s so easily amused by everything, it was surprisingly difficult to find something.” You looked down at the box in my hand and pointed. “How about you? Who’s your secret Santa?”
“Uhh haha it’s.. It’s a secret.” I watched as your mouth hung open in surprise and couldn’t help but chuckle. “What? That’s not fair! I told you who I got.”
“That’s on you for answering! The whole point of a Secret Santa is to keep it a secret.” You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms above your chest. “I can keep a secret!” I hummed and shook my head. “Apparently you can’t.” I laughed and looked down at the box in my hand. “And besides, this gift is going to someone really.. special.”
I missed the way your face slightly fell by me being too busy looking at the gift that’s actually meant for you. “Well, I’m sure whoever it is, will love it.” Noticing the slight change in your tone, I glanced up and saw you smile up at me. “I know I would.” I could feel my heart wanting to beat out of my chest at the thought of you opening your gift and you finally realizing how I feel.
I quickly glanced at the box and debated if I should just tell you that it’s yours, before Thor made his way over to us and greeted you in a giant bear hug. “Miss Y/N! You finally made it!” You laughed in his embrace as you hugged him back. “I was beginning to think you would be too late to try any of the Asgardian deserts I brought with me. The tiny human of ants seems to enjoy them.’
“Oh, well if Scott is eating, I better quickly grab something before it’s all gone.” You smiled as you turned your attention back to me. “I’ll see you later?” I nodded and smiled, raising my hand up as if to say ‘go’. “Yeah, sure. Of course. You’ll know where to find me.” She nodded and followed after Thor. “Of course, I can’t help myself too and have eaten more than I’d like to say.”
“Okay, now I definitely need to grab something before you eat the rest!” Your laughter faded away as I stayed rooted in place. I know you’re friends with everyone here and I would never tell you who you can and can’t hang out with, but a selfish part of me just wanted one evening where we wouldn’t be interrupted and I could just tell you everything. The weight of the box in my hand suddenly felt heavier than before.
I sighed and made my way over to the mini bar. I sat the present on the counter next to me and looked up at Nat. “What’ll ya have, soldier?” She asked and raised an eyebrow. “Just a beer, thanks.” I leaned my head against my hand as I kept my gaze on the counter. She placed the opened bottle in front of me and I reached for it and took a swing.
“You doin’ alright there?” She asked once I placed the glass bottle down. “Mmm..”
“Very talkative tonight, are we?” She sighed and placed her hands on the counter, leaning forward. “What’s up?” I met her gaze and sat up. “Nothin’. Nothin’ I just.. it’s nothing.”
“Doesn’t seem like nothing.” She stated and tilted her head to the side. “Does your brooding have anything to do with a certain long red dressed girl sharing a whatever that is Thor brought?” I pinched my eyebrows together. “What are you talking about?”
“Your crush on Y/N.” She said simply as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “How do you know about that? Wanda swore she wouldn’t tell anyone!”
“She didn’t.”
“I didn’t.”
I heard two different voices at the same time as Wanda sat down on the seat next to me and Nat stood, smirking. “I figured it out on my own.”
“Oh c’mon..” I groaned and took another gulp of my beer. “You, sir, outed yourself.” Wanda spoke while holding her hands up as if to say it’s not her fault.
“So, now that that’s established, I’m gonna go out on a wild limb here and say that based on how close you’re keeping that gift box of yours near you, she’s your Secret Santa?”
“Nat, please, don’t overanalyze me. It’s bad enough Wanda knows my exact thoughts on how I feel. I don’t need you to tease me about it.”
“Hey, I’m not Tony or Sam. I won’t tease you about it ‘til the end of the earth” She joked. “I know how to keep my mouth shut.” I looked to my side and saw Thor’s arms around you, clearly enjoying and thanking you for your gift as you smiled against him. Seeing how happy you looked with him made me second guess if I should just quickly run out to go find something else to give you.
What if my gift was too personal?
“You have nothing to worry about, Buck. Trust me. Because it’ll be from you, I just know we’ll be hearing about it for weeks.”
That’s kind of what I’m afraid of.
Wanda nudged my shoulder and smiled. “C’mon Barnes, Steve told us how much of a charmer you were back in the days. You tellin’ us you can’t sweet talk our Y/N and show her your fun flirty side that I know is deep down inside?”
I chuckled nervously and shook my head. “Heh I – I don’t know. It’s been a long time since I’ve asked someone out on a date.”
They both shared a look that made me feel like I was out of the loop on some kind of inside joke. They seemed to be having a whole conversation in their heads as I sat in between them. Nat's eyes motioned over to me as Wanda tilted her head at me and I suddenly felt like I was being watched and very much exposed.
“You know, you’re both acting as if I can’t tell you’re talking about me.” I raised an eyebrow as Nat waved me off. I chuckled to myself and brought your present closer to me. I know my gift isn’t much and I might make a fool out of myself, but it was give me so much pride to see you show off –
“She won’t reject you.” I looked up at Wanda and furrowed my eyebrows together. “Just.. trust me. She won’t turn you away, in fact she might be very flattered and is dying for you to do something and, oh I don’t know.. make a move?” My eyes slightly widened as I looked back and forth between her and Nat as she just nodded her head.
My gaze found you leaving Thor’s arms and walking over to the back door, opening it and disappearing behind it. “Merry Christmas, Bucky.” Wanda said as I stood up, getting ready to go towards you before stopping my movements as something clicked in my head.
“You..?” She nodded her head. “I couldn’t figure out what to physically give you and I couldn’t go another day hearing you two pine over each other. So I thought of the next best thing, giving you the confidence to go get your girl is the best gift I could give you.” I gave her a smile as she swatted her hand back and forth as if to push me away and laughed. “I can’t wait another minute. Go!”
I quickly grabbed your present and started walking backwards. I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. “Thank you, Wanda! I owe you big time!” She waved me off as I turned around and made my way towards the door you just walked out of a few moments ago.
I firmly held the box in my hand and took a deep breath. I reached for the door handle and opened it, leaving the warm atmosphere of people chatting away while soft Christmas music played in the background and followed you outside.
The sound of the door opening and closing caught your attention as you quickly turned to see who now stood out here in the open with you. “Bucky.” You smiled at me. “What are you doing out here?”
“I could ask you the same thing..” I slowly walked closer and noticed small goosebumps on your skin as you tried to ignore the cold air. You hugged yourself, trying to keep warm as the wind blew your hair away from your face. “.. Coming out here without a jacket. Don’t you know how cold New York gets during winter?”
I unbuttoned my jacket as you shook your head, holding your hand up as if to stop me. “Bucky, no. I’m fine, really.” I slipped off my sleeve and switched the present to the opposite hand to slip off the remaining sleeve. “Mm-mmm, if my momma could see me now and see that I didn’t offer up my jacket to a beautiful girl to keep warm, she’d smack me on the back of my head and tell me off.” I chuckled and placed my blazer on top of your shoulders.
You brought it closer to your body and softly smiled at me. I can’t quite tell if the pink on your cheeks is from me or the cold, but I’d like to think it had somethin’ to do with what I just did. I couldn’t help the giddy feeling I had in the pit of my stomach of you wearing something of mine. “Thank you, but you didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to.”
“What if you get cold?”
“Doll, don’t you worry about me one bit. I’ll be okay, I promise you.”
We both smiled at each other as you gripped onto my jacket to help shield you from the cold. “By the way, you didn’t answer my question earlier. What are you doin’ out here?”
“Well, Thor suggested we bring out the karaoke machine and I needed to find a way out from embarrassing myself.” You laughed as you turned to look out at the night sky. The moon seemed to shine against your skin, highlighting how soft your features are. It makes you look like a goddess, that you’re too beautiful to even look at.
“Ahh, we wouldn’t want that, now would we?”
“Tony would’ve recorded it and had blackmail over my head for years! Poor Thor, doesn’t realize what he’s gonna get himself into.”
I laughed and wondered if anyone is tipsy enough to join in or if it’s gonna be a solo concert by our one and only God of Thunder. Here’s hoping he at least has a decent voice. “Ahh, he’ll be okay. He’ll have fun regardless.”
You softly hummed as you took a quick peek at my hand and noticed the present I’ve still yet to give. “I um.. I actually saw you walk out and was wondering if I could steal a little bit of your time? Without any interruptions.” You looked up at me and smiled. “Well… it looks like it’s just the two of us out here. I don’t think anyone is gonna come outside into the cold.”
“You did.”
“That’s besides the point.” You laughed and subtly glanced down at the present once more before meeting my gaze. “Somethin’ you wanna talk about?” I cleared my throat and raised my arm up to scratch the back of my neck. “Yeah, actually um.. I’d say it’s pretty important considering it’s about you.”
“Oh? Okay uh.. what’s goin’ on?”
I took in a shaky breath and held up the box in my hand, extending my arm towards you and watched your eyes slowly widen. “Merry Christmas, doll.” You hesitantly reached for the box and looked down at the pretty wrapping before tilting your head and meeting my eyes.
“Me?”
I nodded.
“You.”
You softly smiled and started unwrapping your gift, the sound of the paper ripping made me hold my breath in anticipation as I watched your reaction once you popped the small box open. Your lips parted as you took in my gift and I waited for any sign of discomfort or disappointment. You reached in and pulled out my dog tags, your thumb running along the metal engraved with my name.
“Bucky..”
“You’re always playing with them whenever I’m not wearing it and.. and I saw you slip it on once when you thought I wouldn’t notice. I just thought.. I thought that maybe you’d like to keep them safe for me.”
You stayed silent as you continued looking at my necklace in your hand. I tried analyzing your reaction, but my nerves wouldn’t let me be rational and my mind went straight to you not liking your gift. Suddenly feeling very exposed and cold, I quickly tried to rush out apologies if your present wasn’t something you would want.
“I’m sorry if it’s kinda shitty. I just figured you’d want it since.. I can just take it back and get you something else if that’s what you – ”
“No!”
I went to reach for the necklace but stopped in my movements at your sudden exclaim. My necklace held tightly in your hands against your chest, your body slightly turned away as if to protect it from being taken away.
“I – I mean..” You looked down at the piece of jewelry in your hands and held it up so it now dangled in front of the both of us as I waited to see what you would do. “I’m known to keep things safe..” You bent your head down and slipped the necklace on, as it now lay nestled against your chest.
You looked down and reached your hands up to it once again as you smiled. “Especially when it’s something as special as this.”
I smiled, finally feeling a sense of warmth spread across my face as I watched you admire something of mine and wearing it with pride. I slowly walked closer to you and lifted my left hand up, reaching for the necklace. My fingers ran through my engraved name, metal meeting metal, and softly smiled looking up at you.
“It looks better on you.”
I watched as your eyes crinkled with happiness in them and your smile continued to grow as I let it fall back against your chest. I reached up and pushed a strand of your hair away and placed it behind your ear as your head tilted towards my hand. I hesitantly held it centimeters away from your cheek as you lifted your hand to place on top of mine, bringing it down so I could feel you against me.
I watched you hold onto me and close your eyes, sighing in content. I slowly rubbed my thumb against your cheek as I studied every feature on your face, not sure when or if I would get this opportunity again. We were standing so close that I was almost so sure you could hear my heart beating erratically against my chest. “If you’re gonna kiss me, Barnes, you should do it before the moments’ gone.”
My lips parted in surprise as your pretty little eyes opened and met mine. I saw you glance at my lips for a moment as you slowly leaned your body in closer towards mine. I bent my head down and brought your face closer to mine. Your breath fanned against my cheek as you fluttered your eyes closed, letting out a soft, “Please..”
Who am I to deny you a kiss?
I closed the distance between us and connected our mouths together, your cold lips finally meeting mine and everything felt like it was slowly falling into place. Your body fit so perfectly in my arms and your perfume engulfed my senses once again. My shoulders raised up slightly in surprise once you brought your hands up to the side of my face and reached behind my neck, bringing me closer to you.
“Mmm..” I moaned against you when I felt your fingers comb through my hair and gave it a slight tug. You smiled into our kiss and held me there, as if there was any other place I’d rather be right now. I slid my hands down to your back and felt the fabric of my jacket you still had on.
I couldn’t feel the cold breeze blowing against me or hear the music coming from inside Tony’s house. I couldn’t focus on anything but you. Now that I finally got a taste of your lips, I knew I was in trouble. You slowly pulled away as my lips chased after yours, not wanting this moment to end just yet. You let out a giggle and pressed one more kiss before leaning back so you could look at me.
“Wow… merry Christmas to me.” You laughed and rolled your eyes. “Oh my God..”
I looked at your lips and felt myself wanting to go in once more so I could feel you again, but before I could lean in, you lifted your hand up and placed your finger against my lips. “We should head back inside. You may be okay out here in the cold, but I am not.” You chuckled as I lifted my hand up to grab yours and puckered my lips, giving your finger a little kiss.
“I could always find a way to keep you warm.”
“Bucky..!” You blushed and turned your face away from me as I laughed and held you close to me. “Okay, okay, okay..” I smiled and held your hand in mine, intertwining our fingers together as I looked down at my dog tags around your neck. Warmth spread all over my chest at the thought of you walking back in and showing off your gift to everyone. “C’mon doll, let’s head back inside.”
You held onto my jacket tightly against you as we both walked back inside, hand in hand. “In case I wasn’t clear earlier about my gift..” You spoke right after I closed the door behind us. “I really love it.”
“And in case I wasn’t clear about my intentions earlier..” I smiled and brought your hand up to my lips, placing a sweet kiss on top. “I would love to be able to call you mine..”
You smiled back at me and nodded.
I don’t care how much teasing I’ll get from Sam or Tony because in the end, I got the best gift I could ever get.
“I would love that.”
I got you.
Acquaint Yourself With The Avengers
Prompt number: 29 "That's all? Easy."
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Avenger!reader
Rating: E(veryone)
Word count: 4.2k+
Warnings: Maybe some swearing. Slow Burn? Reality TV show hate. Bucky (and readers') self hatred. Talk of death.
A/N: Hey guys! I feel like I've been gone forever- work is killing me! But I'm back for Fictober and I'm really hoping I'll finally do the whole month. This is part 1 of 2 I think- but I'm open to writing more in this universe. Part two will be up in a few days if not tomorrow. I have never watched a reality TV show, so please bare with me for the mistakes I no doubt made.
“This has to be a joke,” you deadpan, throwing the joke of a contract onto the table in front of you. Steve murmurs in agreement on your left, and an increasingly uncomfortable Bucky shifts in his seat to Steve’s left. “Tony, reality shows are crap. What were you thinking?”
“This is coming from higher up than me,” he rubs his temples, giving away his exasperation. Over the years Tony started to slowly step out of the spotlight, no longer seeking out media coverage. “It’s directly from Fury, and the few Congress members that are still on our side. Since the Accord drama our ratings have been dipping, we need them to see that underneath it all we’re just human.”
“And if I don’t agree to it?” your voice hardens as you have a staring contest with the billionaire.
“Then you’re out.”
“So you’re telling me if I don’t exploit my life, if we all don’t exploit our lives- we’re kicked to the curb. Just like that? Years of work and helping people just flushed down the toilet?” you’re on the verge of angry tears.
Your mother had drilled into your brain since you were a young impressionable child, that reality shows were trash, that they did more harm than good. The worse things people did on these shows the more famous they got, it teaches young children that they’ll get rewarded for their bad behavior. You wonder what she would think of you now, about to agree to become that trash just so you can continue to help the people that are bound to talk shit about each and every one of your friends online.
“I agree with (Y/N/N),” Steve finally speaks up, quickly glancing at Bucky’s clenched fists. “Bucky shouldn’t be subjected to having twenty cameras shoved in his face, not so soon after rejoining society.”
It’s been a month since Bucky came to live with everyone at the newly built compound, he had spent the previous three months after the Accords in Wakanda receiving the best help Shuri could provide. You wouldn’t say that you and Bucky are friends, but you two are definitely friendlier than he is with most of the team. You’ve never pushed him to talk, you two can sit in peaceful silence, something Sam does regularly because of his experience with PTSD and the benefits of talking about it.
“You’re just worried that more people are going to start speculating that you're dating him,” Sam joins the conversation, referencing the newest gossip article published today. Some ‘news’ site wrote a fifteen paragraph article speculating on a non-existent romance between the super soldiers, stemming from one single photo of Steve standing half in front of Bucky and pushing a camera out of his face on the way into a restaurant- for a team dinner.
“On the topic of relationships, I don’t really want a bunch of cameras in mine and Clint’s,” Natasha speaks up from the other side of the table, Clint nods along.
“The last thing people need is hours of footage of Vis and me to analyze and bully us about, I already get enough judgment and hate,” Wanda adds, crossing her arms over her chest. Vis rests a comforting hand on her soldier, he’s learned enough about human emotions- especially Wanda’s- to know not to add anything.
“You guys are overreacting,” Sam rolls his eyes. “Plus this could be a good time to promote things we’re passionate about, like group therapy for Veterans.”
“It sounds fun,” Thor booms, you roll your eyes. No one will say anything about him, he’s conventionally attractive, has a sexy accent, and he’s a literal God. He has nothing but adoring fans.
“All publicity is good publicity,” Tony grimaces. “We can’t go any lower, we’re already at the bottom of the barrel.”
“Peter’s lucky he’s a minor and anonymous,” you pout, out of the corner of your eye you can see Bucky crack a small smile. With that one final comment you're signing the contract, because at the end of the day you’ll do whatever it takes to be able to help those in need. Everyone has a similar vein of thought, all signing their own contracts.
Later that night you're sitting in the living room with Bucky, the News is playing in the background, but neither of you had been paying it any mind. You’re too focused on coming up with worst case scenarios about the impending reality show. Bucky can practically hear the gears whirring in your head, he keeps glancing over at you to make sure you're okay. Not that you notice because you're too wrapped up in your own little world.
“What if they edit it to make one of us the villain?” you ask out of nowhere, this is the first time you’ve broken the peaceful silence in the months you’ve been sitting with him. “Sorry, forget I said anything, I’m gonna head to bed.”
“It’ll be me,” Bucky whispers when you stand up from the couch. “They’ll take this opportunity to show everyone what a monster I am.”
“You aren’t a monster Bucky,” you squat down in front of him when you see that he’s staring at his lap. “You can’t be blamed for what Hydra made you do. And anyway, they usually pick an unsuspecting person on one of these shows and edit it so their words and actions are all twisted. They ruin people’s characters, not make hard hitting political statements.”
“You think they’ll target you?” he asks it like it’s a question, but it’s more of a statement.
“Yeah I do,” you sigh, standing up and plopping on the couch beside Bucky for the first time. “I’m mysterious, or at least that’s what Tony and Peter keep telling me. I don’t have a big social media presence, I do my best to avoid the paparazzi when I go out, and I very rarely speak at press conferences. If they don’t make me the villain, I’m worried they’ll hyperfocus on me until I slip up and become one.”
“I think it’ll be Vision, since he’s a robot,” Bucky adds after a minute of silence, and you can’t help but smile at him.”
Before you know it, Wednesday rolls around, and the fifteen person crew shows up to invade your lives. You start to get overwhelmed by the ten cameras they are setting up, two in a confessional area, and the other three in the living room where you are all supposed to do your opening scripted talk- where Tony will explain why you guys are doing the reality show Acquaint Yourself With The Avengers. On top of those cameras, the crew are setting up hidden and security cameras to catch the action when they aren’t there filming on the main ones. Once you're all seated on the couches- your stuffed between Bucky and Sam- the PA, Alice, comes over to talk to you all.
“So filming will happen Thursday through Tuesday most weeks, unless a big event falls on an off day, crew leaves by ten PM at the latest, and the hidden cameras will go dormant after midnight. No children will be in the final product- as requested by Scott, we can evaluate on a case by case basis if any of the rest of you choose to have children down the line and want to show them. Are there any questions?” she asks, but gives a look that screams not to ask any. “Well if there aren’t any, we should get to shooting, we’re already twenty minutes behind.”
You say your two scripted lines in the beginning scene and then zone out through the rest, you’re a little worried your face will give your lack of enthusiasm away, but none of the crew says anything so you assume you're fine. Soon enough, you're dismissed, but not allowed to go far because the first interviews for all of you are about to take place in the dining room. You and Bucky both stay firmly planted on the couch while most of the others go to the kitchen to get something to drink, or lurk in the dining room to watch said interviews- Steve being the first to be interviewed.
“Just act like the camera’s aren't there,” you say unhelpfully when you notice his gaze shifting uneasily from one camera to the next. In reality you too are struggling with them watching you from every possible angle.
“That’s all? Easy,” Bucky deadpans, a laugh bursts out of your mouth and his eyes twinkle.
“Did you just make a joke,” you laugh again, this time far quieter. For the first time since the camera crew arrived you forget they’re there, too lost in this one real moment with Bucky, too lost in his gorgeous crystal blue eyes. It’s the first time you’ve ever seen him let his guard down with anyone other than Steve.
“And if I did?” he asks playfully, leaning in closer to you, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
“Then I’d say do it more often, it’s a good look on you,” you grin back at him, and you're only broken out of your trance when Alice calls for Tony.
She calls you after Tony, hair and makeup come rushing over to give tiny last minute adjustments to your appearance after you're seated in front of a ring light. You start to fidget with the hem of your shirt as the PA flips through her paper to get to her list of questions about you, the suspense just making your anxiety skyrocket.
“To start off we’re just going to ask some easy and basic questions to get you warmed up. So (Y/N), you’ve been with the Avengers since it was first formed, tell us what that’s been like, and make sure you put the question in your answer.”
“I’ve been with the Avengers since 2011, I was the second one Director Fury recruited, right after Tony. I’ve loved all of the good deeds we have been able to do for people all over the world, and I’ve made some lifelong friendships too. It’s amazing being able to do something you love with the people you love.”
“Good good,” Alice nods, looking down at her questions. “Now tell us how you feel about all of the new auditions to the team since then, and don’t hold back.”
“We’ve had some pretty great people join since the seven of us were originally put together, not only are they good, friendly people, but they are also all very skilled at what they do. I love watching the team grow, it just means that we have more skills and manpower to be able to help even more people,” Alice rolls her eyes at your response.
“For this next part we’re going to put up article headlines talking about how you’re the most private Avenger, even more so than Natasha. So just tell us why you’re so private.”
“There isn’t all that much to say, I’m just a private person,” Alice makes a keep going gesture from behind the camera. “I’ve always been pretty private and I was only thrust into the limelight when I joined the Avengers Initiative. I do my job to help people not to get recognition, that’s what my career has always been about. I never felt the need to post a lot of selfies online or make a tweet about the workout I just did. People are allowed to do those things, and there’s nothing wrong with that, I’ve just never understood why people would care what I’m doing in my day to day life.”
“Do you feel safe in the compound?” the question comes out of left field and you aren’t sure why it’s being brought up.
“Of course I feel safe! I’m in a highly secured compound with my fellow Avengers, there’s nothing safer.”
“One last question, everyone is dying to know, what’s your relationship status?” Alice even seems like she’s interested in the answer.
“Like I said before, I am a very private person, but I suppose I could answer this. For the whole two people wondering about my relationship status, I am single at the moment. I’ve just been really focusing on my job, and I’ve learned that people don’t necessarily like coming second to my job and my friends.”
“Thank you,” Alice smiles. “Can you send Bucky over next?”
You do as you’re told, search out Bucky and send him on his way to the dining room. Instead of heading to sweet freedom, your room, you loiter and watch Bucky’s intro interview. “Sergeant Barnes, what has it been like joining the Avengers and how has everyone treated you?”
“It’s been okay and mostly everyone-” Bucky gets cut off by Alice.
“Make sure you put the question in your answer.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Bucky is clearly starting to get agitated with all of the focus and cameras on him.
“Say something like joining the Avengers has been really good, it’s helping me get better with teamwork again blah blah blah. The team has welcomed me in and it’s reminiscent of my time in the Army, something like that,” Bucky gives one nod, turning back to the camera in front of him.
“Joining the Avengers has been really good, it’s helping me get better with teamwork again,” you bring your hands to your mouth to stifle your laugh at Bucky repeating you word for word. “The team has welcomed me in and it’s reminiscent of my time in the Army.”
“Okay,” Alice draws the word out at Bucky’s lack of originality. “Who would you say your best friends on the team are?”
“Steve,” Bucky responds without thinking, and Alice tells him to mention at least one other person. “Other than Steve, probably (Y/N).”
You're shocked, but flattered, by his response. Sure, he may have just said that because you were right there and staring at him, but maybe he meant it. Maybe all of those nights on the couch with him meant something to him.
“Oh really?” asks, clearly liking whatever spin she’ll eventually put on this conversation in editing.
“Yeah, she um, she was the first one to really welcome me and spend time with me,” he rubs his neck nervously.
“Just like (Y/N), you’re really private too,” you take a step forward seeing that the questioning is starting to put Bucky on edge.
“Cause it’s no one's business,” Alice, thankfully, doesn’t push.
“Are you ever worried you may do something to put your team members in danger?”
That’s enough!” your voice comes out firmer and louder than you imagined it would, drawing the attention of the rest of the Avengers. “Bucky isn’t going to sith there and take your abuse, his interview is done.”
You hold your hand out to him, and he jumps to grasp it, gripping it like it’s his lifeline. You’ve never touched Bucky before, and you keep your brain from running at how warm and nice his right hand feels in your own. You lead him out of the room, away from the prying eyes, and the now constant camera presence. You pull Bucky to your favorite room in the compound, the library. You deposit him on the comfy chaise lounge in the middle of the room while you go grab two books. You come back with Harry Potter for you, and The Hobbit for him, you had heard him talking to Steve about the movies once and learned he read it back in the day.
Little do you know, the littlest action of knowing Bucky’s favorite book on top of the way you stood up for him out there means more to Bucky than he’ll ever know how to express. It thaws his frozen heart just a little.
Eeeee, hi Remi!! For the drabbles, how about a flirty staring contest with Bucky? 👀
stfu i almost got carried away, this is Biker!Bucky x tattooed!reader
He wasn't sure why you were there, how you knew Thor or Valkyrie, and he hadn't introduced himself to you yet. To be fair, you hadn't said hello either, which was fine, but it made him wonder. How were you comfortable staring at him like you were without even knowing his name?
Bucky and Steve had thrown a party at the clubhouse, the hundred of bikes outside giving away exactly what was going on to anyone who walked by. Thor had mentioned he was bringing Valkyrie, who was bringing a friend of her own. They trusted her, so they told her it was okay, but now Bucky was just curious as to who the hell she brought.
You walked in like you owned the place, instantly comfortable in the dim bar, surrounded by large burly men, and women who the men were scared of. People were usually scared for hours after walking in, taking forever to warm up to this crowd of "roughians" but not you. No, not you. You had made it a point that you were comfortable here. Taking drink for drink, shot for shot, keeping up with the heaviest of the drinkers in the room. Your steps had started to fumble as the night went on, but you were still keeping up with conversation as if you were only slightly buzzed.
And then you looked at Bucky. And he'd looked at you. And neither one of you had taken your eyes off of the other.
You were on the other side of the yard in the back, near the fire pit with Valkyrie and Thor. You'd shown up with your hair done up and your makeup looking perfect, as if you'd simultaneously spent hours on your appearance but also no time at all. You were wearing black skinny jeans with rips up the front, from your knees to the tops of your thighs, and he could see the ink on your legs from where he sat in his chair on the back deck with Steve and Sam. A black crop top with some band on it covered your top, but where he was sitting, Bucky could tell you were cold. Your bottom lip was slightly shivering and he could see the goosebumps on your arms.
You still hadn't looked away, ignoring your friend's animated conversation, watching him, your half-lidded eyes never blinking. When Bucky noticed you hadn't blinked yet, he situated himself in his chair, leaned back and threw his foot over his knee with his beer in his hand resting on his thigh, and stared back, refusing to let you win this contest you'd started.
He noticed the second you caught on, your lips pulling into a smirk as you crossed your arms. Bucky wasn't someone people challenged, and even though this was just a staring contest, it was thrilling. He liked being challenged.
But something told him this was more than that. Maybe it was the smirk on your lips, the way you bit the edge of your bottom one. Or maybe it was the way you stretched without looking away, giving him a glimpse of the ink under your breasts - along with some underboob - before sitting straight again.
He'd cocked his eyebrow, poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue and stood, leaning against the post holding up the overhang. He took a sip from his beer, giving you a view of the rings that adorned his fingers.
This time you lifted one of your brows, and held your hand out to Valkyrie, asking for something. Without looking away, he noticed her put something in your hand while also now interested in what the two of you were doing. Bucky watched as you plucked a cherry from it's stem, holding it in one hand, and placing the stem in your mouth.
Your jaw worked for only a second before you stuck your tongue out and there sat the stem, tied in a neat, tight knot.
He huffed through his nose, and started his way over to you, ignoring Valkyrie and Thor getting up and leaving, seemingly knowing what was going on. Setting his beer down, he shrugged off his jacket and placed it around your shoulders, plucking the cherry from your fingers and plopping it in his mouth.
You spit the stem out and smirked, snuggling into his jacket before holding out your hand. He wrapped his own calloused one around yours and liked how small it was compared to his own. You stated your name and he smirked, repeating it and loving how it rolled off his tongue.
"I'm Bucky," He answered, refusing to let go of your hand, "Wanna go upstairs?"
Relationship/Romanticism Headcanon Meme
Name: James Buchanan Barnes Nickname: Bucky Relationship(s) status: Verse-dependent Gender: Cismale Romantic orientation: Pansexual Preferred pet names: Acceptable if they're not hideous distortions of his name or otherwise too cutesy. He uses a lot of "baby/babe," "doll," and "sweetheart" with his partners. Opinion on true love: 100% exists, whether it's platonic or romantic Opinion on love at first sight: Attraction at first sight, absolutely, but not love How romantic are they?: His views on romance have changed quite a bit over time. Before the war, it was nights on the town, drinks and dancing and charm, but nothing particularly lasting. Post-HYDRA, his idea of romance is, quite simply, a partner who stays despite all the complications of being with the former Winter Soldier. Ideal physical traits: Somewhat athletic or at least able to defend themselves in some capacity. It's dangerous standing too close to him, and he can't have any more victims on his conscience. Ideal personality traits: Patient, understanding, loyal, probably a bit reckless as a necessity Unattractive physical traits: Not that important Ideal date: An old sci-fi movie at the theater, maybe drinks and conversation after Do they have a type?: Big dumb hero comes to mind (Steve, Clint, Sam), but it's not a hard and fast rule. Big dumb villain works sometimes too (Brock). Average relationship length: Pre-war, maybe a few weeks, nothing too substantial. Post-HYDRA, he's pretty much one and done unless a very patient muse can sneak up on his feelings, and then you've got a Winter Soldier for life. You really should have checked how long that kind of thing lives before you got one. Preferred non sexual intimacy: He's more of an acts of service partner. He has to be very settled in a relationship to get comfortable with casual touching, and it's still easier to accept sexual advances over genuine softness. Commitment level: Ridiculously, absurdly, unreasonably loyal. If he's in, he's in it forever. Opinion on public affection: People are going to gawk at him anyway. It might as well be for something enjoyable for once. You really want to start a staring contest with this guy? Past relationships: Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff (either platonic or romantic, verse depending, but significant either way)
@zemothethirteenth thank you for the tag, lovely!
Fave falcon and winter soldier scenes??
The Gandalf discussion.
Sam Wilson : I have a feeling they might be a part of the big three. Bucky Barnes : What big three? Sam Wilson : Androids, aliens, and wizards. Bucky Barnes : That's not a thing. Sam Wilson : That's definitely a thing. Bucky Barnes : No, it's not. Sam Wilson : Every time we fight, we fight one of the three. Bucky Barnes : So who are you fighting now, Gandalf?
2. Bucky looking talking about Steve.
Bucky Barnes: He was wrong about you. And if he was wrong about you, then he was wrong about me.
3. Bucky looking at the shield
4. Bucky's Deprogramming
Bucky is overwhelmed with relief as he realizes his brainwashing has been broken, and he can now begin to live without fear of being triggered into the weapon that Hydra turned him into.
5. Bucky & Sam's Couple's Therapy
Sam and Bucky are forced to face each other and address the tensions that have been brewing between the two of them up until that point. The staring contest was hilarious.
6. Sam and Bucky celebrate with Sam's family. It
Sam fully embracing his new title as Captain America, posing with people and taking pictures. And then Bucky arrives at the cookout, for the first time at peace about his past, allowing himself to be happy for the first time in a long time.
Zemo's dancing and Sam complaining about his attire lives rent free in my head. But what I loved the most was Bucky gifting Sam a new Captain America suit. Something he did from the bottom of his heart.
Overall I loved the entire series and there are more scenes that I love and I would go on a ramble talking about the show. Thank you so much for asking me this. ❤️
Staring Contest with a Dead Teenager
Author's Note: This is based on a comic posted on another tumblr account. The link to it is pasted below, at the end of the oneshot. In this story, the Avengers in this one shot consist of Steve, Natasha, Clint, Loki, Bucky, Thor, Sam, Bruce, and Tony. For those who need a time line, this happens before Avengers: Age of Ultron, but after Captain America: Winter Soldier.
~
DP x Marvel
New York City. Known as the city that never sleeps, and the city that keeps being destroyed or attacked by abnormal criminals or invaded by alien armies. Pretty much anything can be considered the norm for a city that's been through as much as New York.
Apparently, there are entities that take that as a challenge.
For almost every other day, these.... creatures appear out of seemingly nowhere. The Avengers would suit up, get there, only to find nothing but minimum property damage. The Avengers helped out the emergency workers there with the fearful civilians. But aside from a little dirt and dust from the debris, and a couple scratches here and there, they were all relatively left unharmed.
Back at the tower, the Avengers held a team meeting to discuss the strange event. Yeah, they thought that it's great that the chaos stopped, but the question that continued to run through the Avenger's mind is, why?
The Avengers doubt the reason being them. Based on the limited reports they received with these creatures abilities, flight, intangibility, super strength, emitting qualities, etc; the list just seemed to go on. If Earth's Mightest Heroes were to go into battle against one of these entities, the Avengers would definitely have their hands full in such a fight.
But it only happened once, the Avengers just shrugged and went back to the tower, hoping that this was just a one time occurance.
They hoped, but they didn't hold their breath. With their luck, the Avengers doubt this to be a 'one time thing'.
A few days later, the Avenger's suspicions turned out to be right. Calls and reports came rolling in of another entity, this one different from the last but definitely part of the same species, causing chaos and destruction in New York once again.
Again, the Avengers suited up, arrived, and no one was there. This time, there were some witnesses who retold the group of heroes what happened with wide eyes.
To their surprise, another entity appeared, fought the first one, before containing it in a cylinder object and then fleeing the scene just before the Avengers arrived. They stayed to offer their help once more, but there wasn't much needed to be done.
Like the first time, there was minimal damage and aside from scrapes and bruises, the civilians were pretty much left unharmed.
This process happened for two weeks straight, and many of the Avengers were beginning to become restless with lack of answers. So, they began to search for them before/after every attack.
The first thing they did, thanks to Tony, was look through the security footage. But every single footage and camera they look through, it's all scrambled and only during these entities appearance. But once they leave, the footage cleared up as if it wasn't even glitching out in the first.
Now Tony, Loki, and Natasha are curious while Sam, Steve, and Thor seem frustrated, Thor even more so surprisingly. And the rest were just neutral, really, they are just curious about what's going on.
After another two weeks and the Avengers finding basically nothing. Steve was getting serious. These occurrences have happened too many times and the Avengers have made zero progress in figuring out what's going on.
The soldier was getting antsy.
He needed to know what these entities are, who they are, and what the hell are they doing in New York?
So, one day, upon arriving back at the tower, none of them didn't even get the chance to change out of their uniform when Steve turns to the group.
"We need to contact Fury."
Fury wasted no time in getting to work.... they didn't do much better than the Avenger's much to Fury's own frustration.
All the more proving the need to know these creatures and their purpose. The only thing Fury, Hill, and the rest of their people managed to do was isolate the energy signature these entities give out.
The best plan they were able to come up with was for the team to split up and discreetly patrol New York until one of these signatures appeared.
On the first day, nothing happened, same with the second, only for them to have missed the appearance of two entities on the second night. At least that solidifies the many eye witness reports of one entity appearing to take down the other before the two would disappear.
That didn't stop the frustration and anger the Avengers felt for the missed opportunity. The next day they stayed out longer and into the night, waking up early to begin the next day.
It was that day that something happened while Tony, Steve, Loki, and Sam were on patrol, the rest asleep and waiting for their turn to take the evening/late night patrol.
Hill suddenly spoke into the comms.
"A energy spike down Park Avenue!", Hill suddenly exclaims.
"I'm close by, on my way. Be there in five.", Tony announced, already adjusted his flight.
"Stark, you can't just go flying in. We don't know what these things are.", Steve protested.
"I thought this was the whole point of your patrol schedule thingy that you roped the rest of us in with Thor's help.", Tony snarked back with a roll of his eyes.
"All I'm saying is that you should wait for back up before encountering the hostiles.", Steve tries to placate Tony.
"Hostiles, hostiles. Why are we making this plural. Based on reports that you oh so love to use, one of these so called 'hostiles' have been doing our job for us.", Tony shot back, "I say we got at least one friendly and one hostile."
"The point is, we don't know.", Steve retorted, voice sounding more strained and harsh in his alarm, "We have to be careful with this-."
"Too late. Spotted them.", Tony interrupted as his screens picked up and zoomed in on bright flashes of green and blue light in the distance, "I'm going in."
"Stark!"
Tony was quick, flying and coming to a quick stop, hands out and blasters charged up and at the ready.
.
.
.
Only to stare at the side of a kid sucking up a tall pale figure into what looked to be futuristic thermos in a bright flash of light.
Tony had his face plate flip so as to see whether or not his systems were malfunctioning.
But nope.
Floating kid is still there, also noticed Tony flying there. He clutched the thermos tightly to his chest with a sheepish deer in head-lights look on his face. Is that green smoke coming from the strange contraption.
"Stark! One of the signatures just disappeared.", Hill exclaims urgently in the comms, "What do you see?"
He sees a kid. But Tony, for the life of him, couldn't bring himself to say a seemingly simple sentence. Still staring at the white haired floating kid, who just stared dumbly back.
"Be careful! The remaining entity is close to you. It seems to be very powerful!"
They were being shown up by kid. Not gonna lie, that hurt Tony's pride actually, but also made the playboy, billionaire, genius, philanthropist very much worried.
What the hell happened to this kid in order to gain the kind of power that makes Maria Hill worried?
Why is there a floating kid again?
And Tony just hovers, staring at the kid, because based on his 'deer in headlights' look becoming more obvious, the kid could hear Hill through the comm. He waits for the kid to speak first.
And the damn kid just says, "Hi there."
What is Tony's life right now?
So I'm finally watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and... I'm not sure how I feel about it thus far.
I do like Sam & Bucky's dynamic. Bucky being offended that Sam gave up the shield makes sense because Bucky misses Steve and is projecting things on to Sam. It's not fair, because Sam is his own person and deserves the chance to find himself first, but it's very human of Bucky to behave that way. Especially while he's struggling to make apologies to the people he hurt as the Winter Soldier, probably because he feels it's selfish to seek this catharsis for himself when it means dragging this pain up for them instead.
In turn Sam is also kinda projecting his feelings about Steve onto Bucky. Steve left Sam with a legacy he feels unsuited for, or at least unready for. Bucky is Sam's connection to Steve and he doesn't need Bucky piling on, making him feel guilty about giving up the shield when he already feels bad about it himself. At the same time he really wants to have a good working relationship with Bucky and be there for him in the way he can no longer be for Steve.
Their staring contest therapy is hysterical.
That said, their reaction to John Walker as the new Captain America was a major over reaction and kinda shitty. I get it. They feel like the only person who should be picking up the mantle of Captain America is one chosen by Steve Rogers or at least similar to him in some way. All John really has going for him is he has a very impressive military record. He's a good soldier, but he's not really the kind of person who Steve would have picked and he's got very little in common with Steve, though there are some things they do have in common that stick out.
John is very much suffering from gov officials making promises they didn't intend to keep. Sam gave up the shield with the promise it would be retired and instead the government chose a new Captain America to wield it. Which isn't a great look for the gov where the Avengers are concerned, but it's not exactly unexpected. Despite what Steve clearly believed, Captain America isn't a personal title for Steve Rogers alone... it's an honorary military title. (The fact that they didn't name a new Captain America while Steve was on the run still surprises me, tbh.) And the military is going to use everything at it's disposal to make itself look good which means passing on the mantle one way or another. Sam would've made good optics if he'd accepted and John makes for good optics for completely different reasons.
John was absolutely the wrong choice to be Captain America - honestly he kinda comes off as being in over his head after being picked for being a white guy who bears a superficial resemblance to Steve and has never been accused of terrorism... unlike Steve... which allowed for rehabilitating the Captain America 'brand' for the military. He probably could have made it with support but he gets none and I know from spoilers that Lemar is going to die, sending John over the edge not unlike how Steve reacted when he thought Bucky was in danger. So, you know... superficial resemblance but not entirely superficial.
Honestly, the next Captain America needed to be better than Steve and I could see Sam having that potential. John really just doesn't have it. But that doesn't make him a bad person - he really does seem to me that he's a good person trying his best and it's unfortunate his best isn't enough in this situation.
Anyway, Zemo and Sharon have shown up and I'm enjoying how these two are playing Sam and Bucky to varying degrees. Seriously boys, get your acts together.
So while I'm enjoying a lot of the character interactions overall... this is very much a case of strawman bad guys. Their goals are ultimately good - putting an end to border fanaticism and making immigration between all countries easier is something that very genuinely needs to happen - but their bad methods are used to pretend that increased, selfish nationalism is the right way to go. Someone has to be Captain America. And anything that 'threatens' the borders of America must automatically be bad, including the idea of a world without borders.
There's a lot of rah-rah-USA in the MCU and I knew that going into this show, but it still really sucks a lot of the enjoyment out of watching this for me. When your antagonists are acting in ways inherently anti-thetical to their own stated goals for the sole purpose of making them more villainous/justifiable to treat badly, it makes them less interesting villains overall and it does feel like that's what's going on with the Flag Smashers. It's one thing when bad guys act counter to their cause for a purpose, but when it's solely for drama...
not sure how much you know about marvel, but to me Sam and Bucky (the falcon and the winter soldier) are like if kiburi and makuu were forced to work together lmao
ESPECIALLY this scene. the therapist (who could be jasiri ig lol) makes them get up close and personal. in retaliation they have a staring contest with each other like the toddlers they are hfhdjjd
I’m gonna be honest, I know NOTHING about Marvel or DC cuz I’m not a superhero fan BUT based on the picture and the scene you described, it is absolutely them lmao.
They really would have a stupid scaring contest, whether they were forced to work together or not
#thanks for the ask!#i apologize for my lack of knowledge in superhero movies#they would just spend like 3 hours just glaring at each other hfhff#the lion guard
