Salvadorean artist Atilio shared this video in his social media:
English translation and transcript under the cut
"My father is being tortured by Nayib Bukele's dictstorship in El Salvador.
Atilio Montalvo, my father, is a 72 year old economist, war veteran, signer of the Peace Accords and a historical fighter for the civil rights here in my country. These days he sleeps in a 2x2 mts (6x6 ft) cell along with other 15 persons on the ground, malnourished, enduring cold weather, on pain and with a wound that every day gets infected with bacteria and infections.
My sir father, an elderly man, diabetic and with renal insufficiency that just survived a heart attack, is being accused of "terrorism". They have linked him to some "supposed attacks" that were going to happen during the inconstitutional presidential inauguration of dictator Bukele.
What can I tell you? The delirious regime of Bukele seems to have no limits, not in their cruelty nor in their fabrication of lies. He has demanded obedience from the people, to not complain and for us to swallow his bitter medicine.
If Bukele is the head of this dictatorship, the police, the prosecution office, the judges, the social welfare... They are all the hands that they use to serve us that medicine, one that is so bitter it turns into poison.
The saddest thing about this is that my dad's case is one among thousands. The fascists have always had the custom of taking advantage of broken societies by poverty, the gangs, to transform them into a delirious bunch with no capacity for empathy.
Its possible that he may die any day in the authority's hands; share this video, spread my dad's story.
Let the international community learn whats REALLY happening in El Salvador."
Stop saying it's "westerners" colonizing Spanish with latinx and latine and latin(@). The call is coming from inside the house. Put the blame for this where it fucking deserves more accurately and surgically.
To say that simply underlines the ignorance of people that don't understand the real danger of what's occurring here, internationally.
The movement to inject English and gender neutral words into the Spanish language is not a "western" root and origin. This one exists entirely within the realm of, and I don't use these two words lightly, cultural Marxism.
Saying it's being colonized by "the west" protects the actual group source causes of it from scrutiny and comprehension, and just makes it sound like a conspiracy by anglophones to anglicize Spanish, and attributes this to whites, westerners.. Which again just gets chalked up as "white supremacy." Making it sound like it's those danged men in the white hoods that burn crosses again. When, no. It's not them, this time.
The people perpetrating and perpetuating this are not part of, "the white supremacy," they're the fucking ACAB wearing "anti-fascists." They're the dudes and dudette walking around with those stupid hammer and swastika emblems. They're the fucking assholes with the fists holding roses symbols. The ones that demand Spanish change to have more, "inclusive language." (wink wink.) It's those assholes. The least you can do is assign blame to the actual kid drawing on the walls with their shit and not punishing the entire classroom for the actions of Shit Artist Georg.
And here's the dirty little secret: That culture exists within academia and higher education. And it's common and prevalent in Mexico, and further south. It is NOT to be affiliated with just English speaking, overly political correct, garish hair dyed, multiple large gauge ear pierced, manbunned, segway riding, milquetoast progressive whites; the culture is as ingrained in central and Latin America as socialist revolutionary rhetoric, because it has roots in the same pile of philosophical shit.
You can't blame anglophones for this, because that culture acts and thinks and operates internationally, even if they disagree on how to implement what they want and fight endlessly about who gets credit and who gets the blame. Even as we speak there are sympathetic Mexican, El Salvadorean and anywhere there's a Latino majority university regurgitating the Critical Gender Theory development where they insist "language should be inclusive." Which they interpret to mean language nor culture should define gender based on biological sex, and in fact biological sex should be committed to the void and waste bin of public discourse and language. Instead they demand pronouns be inherently neutral or open to more than just biological states, and that means neo-pronouns are as valid as empirically driven biological sex states being given pronouns, and biological sex is not a valid source for pronouns at all. Not as standard and not as option. You get your identity from choice or you're a regressive throwback, in their eyes, and invalid.
"Westerners," "whites," "anglophones" are not attacking Spanish. To mischaracterize this as some sort of American attack on Latino and Spanish culture is EXACTLY what they want as a way to take eyes and heat off of them, because that's exactly what these people do. They crawl under the skin of something else and then attack another with the flesh. In confusion of not knowing what you're dealing with or how to properly attack back to get them to stop, they lash back out at who they think is responsible for the attack, hitting the person that the sneak is using as armor.
It's not a case of the innocent Hispanophones being led astray by those dirty wily northerners. The call is coming from inside the house.
They have decided, for Spain, that Spanish is not acceptable as a language, because the language does not cast out the binary of biological sex and have plasticity for all or no genders. And that it must. They will eventually come for all languages (and cultures, and those living within them,) like this; they just need to get enough people advocating for it inside their own cultures and languages and then put validation on it into law on the fast track, no matter what the actual speakers of the language or actual institutes of control over the language or culture have to say about it.
The only way to unfuck this scenario is to get it more widely recognized that these people are not working in the interests of transgendered rights or nonbinary rights. These are just incidental. Circumstantial. What they're actually after is forcing the legal system and institutions of reasons to play by rules that say they cannot use biological or material empiricism in determining the truth of something; only the opinions of a democratic majority of a class, and the academics that govern them. Real life doesn't matter, only consensus. It sounds so esoteric and absurd, but that's what is being perpetrated here.
If biological empiricism is the deciding factor, then the sexual binary takes precedence and their argument for making the language, "more inclusive" (as they generously spin it) falls flat. They argue if you go solely by biological empiricism, that leaves those that identity outside their sex for their gender are oppressed and discriminated against, and that this cannot be.
And because that cannot be, they argue, the opposite must be true: That society, culture and humanity, in the interests of civil rights, must cast out biology from the equation and adopt fully what is called Social Constructionism in determining whether someone is a man or woman or other. That "gender is a social construct," and deny the relevance to biology in any capacity, in fact arguing nobody's gender comes from their biology and can't. They argue FOR the complete abolition of biology being used to determine differences in groups, or "classes." And all classes made arbitrary.
That's why they fight so hard to wrest control of how Spanish works away from the Spanish and try to institute these academic penalties and punishments on it for NOT conforming to what they say is reality and the needs of civil rights. You're not facing a few idiots in California or Texas that are so high on shrooms and poltiical theory they can't even process emotions anymore, you're dealing with an international psychological abusive movement that desires nothing less than the ability to rewrite the social DNA of an entire culture and civilization from the roots of language, and use force to punish, penalize or destroy non-conformers as hate groups and fundamentalist hate mongerers.
Because if you can mandate to a person or group of people that they are not allowed to come to their own, empirical conclusions about what is true or not, that they're not allowed to look outside to tell the weather but have to refer to a guy who answers to an authority on what weather really means and where it comes from, and dictates to them whether it's raining or not based on their opinions, not fact, then they can only know and only repeat what they've been told is true, under penalty of force for dissent. By demanding the very process to understand what is real changes from looking at reality to referring to subjectivity, you deny people that reality.
It's no different with this mad rush to invalidate biological sex as an acceptable norm for gender among anyone in favor of language like, "Assigned [----] at birth." Or demanding people be referred to by their identity, not by their sex, to determine their pronouns.
It disguises itself as giving a damn about the transgendered or nonbinary, but doesn't really care about either. You don't NEED to disregard reality for trans rights to be a thing; that's purely this one particular philosophy's preferred winner-take-all way of determining the outcome. But they use the opaque blanket of civil rights and the absence of them for the transgendered and sexually non-conforming so you can't question them or contradict them, lest you wind up characterized as one of those people trying to gatekeep transwomen out of public female bathrooms, mischaracterized, and then shortchanged by people (either in good faith or bad) who think they have your profile and know what you're about.
The ultimate goal for them is to eliminate the objective states from what they see are the classes of man and woman, and make them true abstract social constructs that CAN be represented with class struggle theory in that stupid logic game of theirs. Because only by detaching them from reality can they be arbitrarily made "equal." Disestablishing male and female from sex and establishing no gender inherently gets the right to sire or gestate, and these are meaningless consequences of biology. To them, no more gendered than hair color or number of teeth.
It's social constructionists. It's critical gender/sex theorists. It's intersectional feminists. It's people trying to hide a very virulent and destructive form of anti-science and anti-intellectualism as a source of civil rights and progress for people, that demands you cast our biological empiricism and interpret the science in according to values.
It isn't, "westerners." It isn't "anglophones." It isn't "whites."
Oh. Also, it's not Jewish people, either. Should probably make that clear. Mention cultural Marxism even once in a post and some bad faith actor that knows better and one good faith actor that doesn't will pop out and scream, "CUTURAL MARXISM IS A DOG WHISTLE FOR ANTI-SEMITIC CONSPIRACY THEORY." Marxism (to say nothing of Cultural Marxism) has nothing to do with Jewish people and no this isn't a "Jewish" plot. It's just more socialist intelligentsia assaulting truth and reality so what exists on their paper can go unopposed in law and institution, whatever reality has to say about it. So. For the record, not an anti-semitic dogwhistle.

#YEGPublicArt :: New for 2019
(A detail of Spring is Sprung the Grass is Riz by Karen Klassen & Erin Pankratz at Dermott Park)
As 2019 settles into a groove, the Edmonton Arts Council public art and conservation departments are gearing up for a new round of installations, revelations, and conservation. This year, we anticipate adding 11 new public artworks to the City of Edmonton Public Art Collection. Of that number, five are by Edmonton-based artists, two by Albertans, two by Canadian artists, and two are international projects. Reflecting the complex nature of construction schedules, a couple won’t be visible to the public until their respective facilities open in 2020. EAC Conservation continues to work on the mammoth Norman Yates mural restoration project and plans to be out and about cleaning and restoring Edmonton’s sculptures and murals again this spring.
Keep your eyes open for some exciting temporary projects as well. Ground Proof will scatter works by local artists throughout neighbourhoods around town and #YEGCanvas will return in a new, more mobile format.
To be revealed
Spring is Sprung, the Grass is Riz (I Wonder where the Birdie is?) – Karen Klassen & Erin Pankratz, (Edmonton), Dermott Park
Ablaze with colour and texture, this intricate ceramic tile mosaic features exotic birds concealed within its fantastical flowers. Created by Edmonton mosaicists Karen Klassen and Erin Pankratz, the artwork adorns an undulating concrete wall at the new park entrance. It will be revealed later this year when Dermott Park reopens.
(Rendering of Animal Family at the Valley Zoo)
Animal Family – Leu/Webb, (Canada), Nature’s Wild Backyard, Edmonton Valley Zoo
The new family-friendly Urban Barn at the city’s beloved zoo will offer kids and families new ways to interact with the animals living there. To further animate the experience, Toronto artists Christine Leu and Paul Webb created Animal Family, an interactive, brightly coloured “flipbook” of farm animals. The movable panels will allow kids to make tails wag, and heads move. You can play with Animal Family later in 2019 when the facility opens to the public.
New Installs
(Artist Rendering of Platanos at Belvedere Transit Centre)
Platanos (Plantains) – Karen Michelle Campos Castillo (Edmonton), Belvedere Transit Centre
Nothing says “home” quite like the food we grew up eating. To celebrate the diverse, multi-ethnic communities that call Edmonton’s north end home, local artist Karen Michelle Campos Castillo will suspend glistening green bunches of plantains within the transit centre waiting area. The plantain is a staple food for many populations within Asia, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. Campos Castillo grew up in Edmonton’s Belvedere neighbourhood after her family relocated from El Salvador more than 20 years ago. Her mother’s cooking of traditional Salvadorean fare offset her feelings of homesickness and culture shock.
(Artist Rendering of Agent Crystalline at EPS Northwest)
Agent Crystalline - Marc Fornes & THEVERYMANY (International) Edmonton Northwest Police Campu
From the artist collective that brought us Vaulted Willow comes an intriguing angular matrix. Agent Crystalline is an urban arch which will act as a beacon for the Edmonton Police Service’s Northwest facility.
(Artist concept drawing of Day Map / Night Map for Heritage Valley Park & Ride)
Day Map / Night Map – Jill Stanton (Edmonton), Heritage Valley Park & Ride
Two painted murals by Edmonton muralist Jill Stanton will splash colour along the walls of each side of the transit centre building. They will feature highly detailed, colourful maps of a fictional city straddling a river.
(Artist concept drawing for Neon Prairie)
Neon Prairie – Victoria Wiercinski, (Edmonton), Jasper Place Leisure Centre
This fall, swimmers at the newly renovated leisure centre, will have a new mural to enjoy during their morning laps. The artist was inspired by the idea that the pool is a year-round lake and so created a mural concept that would provide pool users with a sense of the sky. The brightly patterned modern drawing of prairie skyscapes will be hand painted on panels. The artwork design is determined by imagery derived through a community workshop that took place in 2016.
(Sculpture in exhibition of Landbuoys series - photo courtesy of Tony Bloom)
Silver Seed – Tony Bloom (Alberta), Jasper Place Bowl & Grandstand Silver Seed is part of Canmore artist Tony Bloom’s Landbuoy series. The sculpture is a 1.5 metre hemisphere with a 20 cm slice rotated up into a fin or sail. The Landbuoy series explores the idea of signifiers in our midst, such as erratics—geologic artifacts left behind by retreating glaciers. Rather than being organic in nature, the Landbuoys point to an intelligent hand, and ask, but do not answer, how these structures got there.
(Artist Rendering of one of the mountain landscapes in 53°30’N)
53°30’N – Thorsten Goldberg (International), Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage
Five mountain landscape will begin to sparkle from the roof of the in-progress Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage later this year. 53°30’N is a collection of topographic models from locations sitting on the same latitude (53°) as Edmonton.
The models depict locations in five geographic areas: Mount Chown (Alberta), the crater of Mount Okmok (Umnak Island in the Aleutians), Zhupanovsky Crater (Kamchatka, Russia), an unnamed landscape near Dacaodianzi, Heilongjiang Sheng (China) and Mweelrea (Connaught, Ireland). The artistic concept is inspired by what the artist calls the “globe game”- placing your finger on a specific location and rotating the globe to see what other locations lie along a specific latitude.
Kathleen Andrews Portrait - Daphne Cote (Edmonton), Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage
Kathleen Andrews was Edmonton’s first female bus driver. Originally from England, she was a long-time ETS employee who filled several positions with the organization. Daphne Cote’s portrait draws on photographs and remembrances of this dynamic, pioneering Edmontonian.
(Fabrication image of The Dancer - courtesy of the artists)
The Dancer – Verne Busby & Bella Totino-Busby (Edmonton), Yorath House
The Dancer is a human-scale abstracted representation of a figure in motion. The sculpture is based on an ink brush drawing. The artists intend that the sculpture imparts a feeling of thought, presence, and inspiration to the viewer. Totino Busby believes that public art should challenge the viewer, spark curiosity, and heighten the human spirit.
(Concept maquette by Studio F Minus)
Untitled Kinistinâw Park Project – Studio F Minus (Canada) – Kinistinâw Park, The Quarters Downtown
This project begins by looking to the existing site of Kinistinâw Park for artifacts, symbols and icons already present in the community.
Replicas of the artifact lions, which were formerly set at the Harbin Gate, will be cast in translucent resin layers. Like an archaeological dig site, personal artifacts from the current community and the history of the site will be cast and suspended in the resin layers.
The project uses social art practices and community involvement to address the questions: “How can we preserve the history of a place and its diverse inhabitants? How can we engage the community in a meaningful way? How can we choose symbols and imagery to mark public space?”

Azul Zero presents a new EP: Nadie lo nota
August 2021 - Azul Zero is a Salvadorean band who has just unleashed a new powerful release, a single titled Nadie lo nota. One of the most amazing things about this song is definitely the way that it seamlessly blurs the divide between various genres and styles, including indie-rock, alternative and post-punk, only to mention but a few.
Azul Zero is able to go through exciting lyrics and fantastic wordplay with cat-like reflexes, going for a very fast-paced, direct and dynamic flow. This artist certainly knows how to keep the engagement levels really high, enticing the audience with every beat. If you enjoy artists such as Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes or Francis Moon, you are definitely going to love this release. In addition to the amazing songwriting and performance value offered by Azul Zero, one of the things about “Nadie lo nota” which truly stand out is really the amazing production value, and the mix is balanced and punchy. The song’s tone and feel is quite modern, but also refreshingly dynamic, creating a really good balance between the warmth of the old guard and the crisp approach of the modern age.
The song "ignicion" is dedicated to the fire or the mental explosion that a beautiful woman can cause. It has the 2007 arctic monkey's indie rock style.
The song 'Nadie lo nota' is the feeling of loneliness when either a student or a soldier or whoever has to travel far, decides to follow their dream leaving their loved ones or significant others behind. There are four songs on the EP, including "Esa luz,” a hard rock banger that might remind you of some of the best Audioslave / RATM vibes!
The track "Y sin embargo amor" refers to a Roque Dalton poem by the same title, while also exploring a classic hard-rock sound.
"Mi final" is a reference to the tragic events of Pompeii, which was destroyed by Vesuvius (Which coincidentally, I am can see from my window right now - Fingers crossed!)
Find out more about Azul Zero, and do not miss out on Nadie lo nota and other fantastic releases from this talented performance, because this one is definitely not a sleeper!
