NEWS: BURYSOUND BUMBLES BACK BOLDLY FOR BIG, BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY BLOWOUT, BUH

Amazingly, the annual, Bury St Edmunds-based BurySOUND Music Competition will be twenty years old in 2018 and, following an application period which saw the biggest response in the event's history (45 bands vying for 25 spaces, alongside six guest headliners), the full line-up has been announced.  

In addition to the now-customary heats at The Hunter Club and Final at The Apex, this year sees the addition of a heat at Haverhill Arts Centre.  As co-organiser Tom Ogden told B-Side, "Haverhill is part of St Edmundsbury and our long-term hope is to inspire an amazing and vibrant grass roots, DIY music scene in the town; no less an authority than Radio One's John Peel once declared Bury St Edmunds 'the new Seattle' on the strength of its music scene, so why not Haverhill too?"

As anyone old enough to remember will testify, there was no music scene in Bury St Edmunds before BurySOUND was launched in 1998, by a lovely lady called Jackie Smith from St Edmundsbury Council.  In those days, the best a thrill-hungry music lover could hope for was the sweet spiritual refreshment of standing naked beneath God's dazzling firmament in the fields of Timworth and setting one's arse ablaze.
