Experts Call Long COVID in Kids a Public Health Crisis. Why Is It Being Ignored? - Published Aug 26, 2024
For years, public health experts have said that COVID-19 infections in children are “mild.” According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the most common symptoms of COVID in kids are a fever and cough. While some children with the coronavirus are admitted to the ICU and there are pediatric deaths, studies have found that underlying medical conditions including obesity, diabetes, cardiac and lung disorders, increase the risk of severe outcomes.
This research has contributed to how COVID is managed in schools. However, a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association sheds light on the effect a coronavirus infection can have on children over a longer period. While many people recover quickly from COVID, some don’t, experiencing symptoms that can last for months or years. This condition, known as long COVID, not only affects adults but also children. The new research helps us understand the extent kids experience these debilitating conditions — and how we can treat it.
“This is one of the first large-scale national studies to do research related to long COVID across the entire lifespan, with a particular focus on children and understanding the differences in long COVID in different aged children,” Dr. Rachel Gross, an associate professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Population Health at NYU Langone and the study’s principal investigator, told Salon.
In the study, led by the National Institutes of Health’s RECOVER Initiative, researchers asked caregivers to tell them about the symptoms that their children or teenagers had been experiencing more than four weeks after a coronavirus infection. For some children in the study, that meant their symptoms went on for three months after their COVID infection. For others, it was up to two years. Researchers looked at the symptoms in those children with persisting symptoms and compared them to children who had never been infected with the coronavirus in the past. They then identified similarities in the prolonged symptoms and found they were distinguishable based on age.
“In school-aged children, we heard commonly that children were experiencing trouble with their memory, focusing, headaches, having trouble sleeping, and stomach pain,” Gross told Salon. “And in the teenagers, we were hearing about symptoms related to fatigue and pain, having body or muscle or joint pain, being very tired or sleepy, having low energy, as well as having trouble with memory and focusing.”
A unique symptom the researchers saw in the teenage group was changes in or a loss of smell or taste. Additionally, researchers found clusters of symptoms that are unique to school-aged children and teenagers. The first were symptoms that affect every organ system in the body.
“These are the children with the highest burden of symptoms,” Gross said, adding that caregivers described these children as having a “lower quality of life and more impact on their overall health.” “The second type of long COVID we also saw across both the ages was predominantly characterized by fatigue and pain.”
Studies estimating its prevalence in pediatric populations are limited and conflicting, estimating up to 25% of children infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus could go on to develop long COVID. A study published in 2024 estimated that up to 5.8 million young people have long COVID.
“This is a public health crisis for children,” Gross said. “We know that child health is so critically important for how children grow and even as they become adults, that chronic illness during childhood and adverse experiences during childhood greatly affects the adults that they can become.”
Gross said the U.S. will see the “long-term impacts of experiencing long covid In childhood for decades to come.”
Dr. Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases and associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Davis, told Salon he agreed long COVID is a “public health crisis” for children.
“Some of these kids with long COVID, they are severely affected, they can’t do their normal activities, they fall behind school, they can’t go to school,” Blumberg said. “And then in this study, they highlighted a lot have had some neurocognitive effects, and that really interferes with with learning.”
For Blumberg, the takeaway from this study, he told Salon, is a “call to arms to increase vaccination rates,” which among children, he said are “abysmal.”
According to a recent KFF survey, while both flu and COVID vaccines are recommended for school-aged children, flu vaccination rates were over three times higher than COVID vaccination rates. While COVID-19 vaccines are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in the pediatric immunization schedule, they aren’t required for school attendance. According to one study published in the journal Pediatrics, vaccination reduced the risk of an acute infection, but it is less clear whether it protects against long COVID. The latest COVID vaccines were approved by the Food and Drug Administration last week, which the CDC recommends for anyone six months or older.
Now, researchers will be tasked with figuring out why long COVID affects children differently based on their age. When it comes to adults, some studies have shown that subsequent COVID infections increase a person’s risk of getting long COVID. The CDC estimates that one in 13 adults in the United States currently have long COVID symptoms.
Gross told Salon she hopes this research raises awareness for both healthcare providers, as well as schools and educators, that “long COVID in children is not rare.”
“That they are likely to have children experiencing these prolonged symptoms within their healthcare systems and their schools,” Gross said. “And that many of the symptoms that I’ve described, trouble with memory and focusing, headache, trouble sleeping, these are symptoms that you know can impact a child and their schooling.”

The hair that drops in clumps on the floors of some salons in Kiel, a port city in northern Germany, is swept up to be turned into fabrics that filter oil from water. Parents who want to buy their children cloth nappies instead of disposable ones can apply for grants of up to €200 from the local authorities. At the city’s biggest festival last year, the organisers got rid of single-use cutlery and replaced it with a deposit system.
Germany is famed as a world leader in recycling – and Kiel, as I found out during a visit this summer, has some of the most weird and workable plans in the country to deal with its trash. It is the first German city to be declared “zero waste” by the environmental campaign group Zero Waste Europe. The certificate does not mean it has already stopped throwing things away – far from it – but rather that it has a concrete plan for how to do better.
“It’s one step in the right direction,” says Bettina Aust – a Green party politician who was elected president of Kiel city council in June – over a glass of juice made from apples that had been saved from landing in a supermarket bin. “You have to keep thinking further … You cannot stay still.”
Germany has a complicated relationship with waste. Despite its status as a world leader in recycling, Europe’s biggest economy is also one of its dirtiest. In 2021, the average German generated 646kg of waste, while the average EU citizen generated 530kg. Only in four EU countries – Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark and Belgium – did people throw away more.
Dino Klösen, a manager at Kiel’s waste management company ABK, says trends in the country’s consumption can be seen in its bins. Paper recycling bins that would have once been full of newspapers are now bursting with cardboard from delivery packages. “The weight of paper waste has dropped but the volume keeps rising from online shopping,” he says.
Awash with waste, cities like Kiel are exploring ways to throw away less and recycle more of what it does chuck. The city council has announced projects ranging from a ban on single-use items in public institutions, to installing more public drinking fountains, to teaching schoolchildren about waste. It is also encouraging people to make simple changes to their behaviour such as using solid bars of soap instead of buying plastic bottles of the stuff.
Other proposals are more systemic. The city is trialling a “pay as you throw” system where people are charged only for the rubbish they throw in the mixed waste bin. A report from the European Environment Agency last year found only about 30% of Germany is covered by such a scheme, even though areas that were covered saw an average drop in mixed waste of 25%.
“General waste is the most expensive form of rubbish there is,” says Klösen. “We are trying to motivate citizens to throw less waste in the bin by making them pay less for doing so.”
Even though waste-cutting efforts like Kiel’s are fairly novel in Germany, recycling is firmly rooted in the culture. In 2021, Germans collected more than two-thirds of their municipal solid waste to be repurposed – more than any other country in Europe. They burned most of the rest for energy, and dumped just 1% in landfills (the EU average is 16%).

I’ve noticed many times at this point that there’s a disjoint between the treatment trans people receive from supposedly queer-affirming institutions and nonprofits, and the treatment we receive from for-profit services that only cater to the richest among us.
At sliding scale queer clinics and LGBTQ community centers, I’m treated like something of an inscrutable freak or an incompetent much of the time. People condescend to me, remember nothing about me, and misgender me even when my identity and pronouns are marked on my chart. Other basic facts about me and my health get regularly messed up too. Even my own doctor keeps forgetting I’m on testosterone gel, not injections, and multiple times I’ve had the wrong blood labs ordered for me or had paperwork misplaced.
I can easily contrast that to the treatment I get at the spas, tanning salons, gay bars, and plastic surgery centers I’ve visited, all of which cater to a wealthier, more privileged clientele. I’m gendered correctly more often at LA Tan than I am at the queer clinic. The technician who performed my laser hair removal was more respectful toward my trans body than any nurse I’ve met at Planned Parenthood. At the gender clinic, I was a forgettable number on a spreadsheet whose phone calls go unreturned. At the plastic surgeon, I'm served fancy coffee and asked about my aesthetic preferences.
Wealth unlocks access to a realm where queer people’s bodies and identities are respected, where we are trusted to manage our own healthcare and are remembered and prized. I desperately wish this weren’t the case. I’m sometimes a bit disgusted at myself for how much I enjoy receiving this lavish-seeming treatment, even though I know it’s only basic dignity.
The only way to escape erasure or institutional control under our present system is to have enough wealth to transform from mere patient into coveted consumer. With enough money, you can skip the clinic in all its bureaucracy, order hormones from an online service, book a major surgery within mere weeks, order UTI meds from an app, and pay a driver to take you home from the hospital rather than begging a friend.
Right now, I can afford to be a consumer, which means I am allowed to be a person and to do with my body whatever I wish. And I don’t know what to do with how good that feels.

[ harry shum jr., genderqueer, he/they ] — whoa! KIAN ZHANG just stole my cab! not cool, but maybe they needed it more. they have lived in the city for THEIR WHOLE LIFE, working as the HEAD STYLIST AND OWNER OF KIAN ZHANG HAIR. that can’t be easy, especially at only 41 YEARS OLD. some people say they can be a little bit DRAMATIC and BLUNT, but i know them to be INNOVATIVE and ACCEPTING. whatever. i guess i’ll catch the next cab. hope they like the ride back to MANHATTAN!
IN A NUTSHELL; a smudge of eyeliner, vintage clothing, piano solo's when the sun's gone down, the slight scent of hairspray, an extensive collection of disney pins, willing to do anything for their son.
tw: bullying
ABOUT.
Name: Kian Zhang Nicknames: Ki Age: Forty-one Date of birth: 21st February 1983 Birth place: Manhattan, New York Occupation: Head Stylist and owner of Kian Zhang Hair Romantic/sexual orientation: Panromantic/pansexual
Kian was born in Manhattan, New York, along with his twin sister, his best friend from the word go.
He’s second-generation Chinese-American.
As the years ticked by they found themselves not entirely happy in their own skin, they started dressing differently, wearing the occasional smudge of eyeliner, something they attempted to embrace in high school.
It didn’t go well, the bullying soon followed; accepting apparently himself was frowned upon. Despite the multicultural city he lived in, his expression was limited in his youth.
He didn’t really listen, continued on in private, with close friends he made… with a boyfriend, someone who meant the world to him as time went on. He was someone who stayed a close friend long into his thirties, despite the break-up in senior year.
It was shortly after high school that they began to go by both he and they pronouns, something that has stayed the same ever since.
Their creativity came out over time and they embraced it, choosing in the end to make their way into the beauty industry and the Carsten Institute of Cosmetology was the place to do it.
He eventually chose to specialise in hairdressing, becoming a stylist to the stars within a couple of years of graduating.
Shortly after that they found themselves caught up in a new relationship, something that was difficult to balance, but he tried his hardest.
Within a year or so a wedding was on the cards, each detail planned out meticulously. It was to be the beginning of a new chapter for him and when they found out only six months later that she was pregnant, he realised it really, really was.
Somehow, at some point during all of this he managed to open up his own salon in the Upper East Side —- somewhere that ended up with a three-month wait for appointments at all times of the year.
Not long after their 30th birthday, the family of three relocated to London, UK, a decision that was made for her work. Kian chose to work on opening a salon there instead, a small franchise that they intended to let someone else run, but with their ethics and style.
As their time in London ticked on, cracks in the relationship began to show, attempting a slower lifestyle ( despite the location ) wasn’t working —- they were both so used to being rushed off their feet.
Two years later a divorce was finalised and Kian moved back to New York. A rocky few years followed, the pair attempting to handle parenting from different continents.
He soon met someone who changed things for him, someone who made them want to try again. A couple of years passed, they moved in together, they were complete opposites in a way, yet that only seemed to make their bond stronger. They complimented one another and it was as simple as that.
But then that ended, too, abruptly and painfully. Kian did all they knew how to do, focus on work and ignore everything else going on around them. Thankfully his son is back in the States now, his ex-wife's job changing a couple of years ago, meaning she could return.
HEADCANONS.
Their wardrobe is a rather eclectic mix of things, although their most colourful side comes out when they’re working and less so at home. At home they really are about being comfortable and nothing else.
There’s always the slightest hint of eyeliner with them, they’ve never been able to let that go.
He’s been playing piano since he was small and he’s pretty damn good at it now —- can definitely give Beethoven a run for his money.
He’s got a bit of thing for 80′s music and are playing it constantly, especially in the salon.
Can’t play sports to save their life, although they like to think they were an amazing high-jumper in high school ( they weren’t, but still mention it if anyone ever brings sports up ).
They collect Disney pins and have never been particularly shy about it.
Once got stabbed with their own scissors by an unhappy client.

Basics
Full Name: Hanna Mazal Anderson
FC: Alia Shawkat
Age/DOB: 35 / January 27th, 1989
Zodiac: Aquarius
Occupation: Cosmetologist/Manager @ Shaya & Co.
Living Arrangements: 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment w/ balcony in Midtown
Sexuality: Bisexual
Secret: TBA
Biography in the read more! TW: Death in family
Hanna Anderson doesn’t remember much about the home city she was born in, Chicago, since she moved to Wilmington, NC when she was 2 years old. Wilmington was what Hanna considered her hometown. She grew up in a ranch style 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with 2 acres of land in the Masonboro neighborhood. Hanna was the second oldest of the five Anderson children. Despite her older brother, Sam, and her having a 3 year age difference, the two were pretty close. Sam was always protective of her, making sure she kept away from trouble and did her homework. When she was old enough to, Hanna offered to do what she could to help her parents, learning to cook and clean among other things alongside her mother. Being so close to her mother was how Hanna came to love doing hair. She followed her mom to various houses of family friends to watch how she cut and styled everyone’s hair. Hanna’s mother was raised muslim, so the Anderson household grew up eating a halal diet (no pork, no animal shortening, no alcohol). They celebrated all holidays including Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, though religion was not strictly enforced by her parents. Hanna was never very religious, but went through the motions for her mother’s happiness.
Growing up, Hanna’s father was away from home often due to being in medical school. He was determined to make a good living for his family, which is something Hanna admired about him. Despite having to work so much, her father was always around for the major events. That included when Hanna graduated high school at the top of her class. However, her father never agreed with her choice of college: Aveda Institute Wilmington to study Cosmetology. It was her dream, but her father never agreed with it. He tried his best to be supportive, but also secretly somewhat hated it. Hanna’s mother, on the other hand, found her choice inspiring and decided to open a beauty salon in midtown Wilmington called Shaya & Co. Her mom always loved doing hair and figured the town could use a good place to get pampered up. A year later when she was 19, Hanna graduated from cosmetology school with her father not showing up for once... Figuring it was time to leave the nest and get away from pain, Hanna left her parent’s house in search of a new home. She found a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom with a small balcony in midtown, not too far from her mother’s salon actually, and claimed it as hers. Hanna started working in her mother’s salon shortly after moving. Even though her relationship with her father was strained now, her mother still wanted to help her as much as she could.
Customers started to love Hanna at Shaya & Co. and began requesting her. Her mother loved seeing her little girl excel so well at the craft and named her the shop manager within her first year of working. Some would say it was because Hanna was her daughter, but Hanna knew it was her hard work that got her the promotion. At age 21, she was now a boss babe as she dreamed of being. Yet, a piece of her was missing… Her father had still never apologized for missing her graduation from cosmetology school. In fact, there were no words from him in the past several years. It hurt to miss her father, but at least Hanna still had her mother and siblings. They just celebrated holidays without their father… For 4 years at least until finally their father made a change. He decided to step back from being chief surgeon at the hospital and just became an attending surgeon, working less hours to be with the family more. And, her father also showed up for Hanna’s 25th birthday to apologize. Finally, the Anderson family was healing from the past and moving forward.
5 years passed, during which Hanna lived a pretty normal life. She worked at the salon, hung out with friends and family, enjoyed the little moments in life with those she loved, etc. When the news came that her older brother was killed during a work mission in Syria, the female realized how short life was. The past 30 years went by and she had never admitted to even herself that she was bisexual. She knew that fact since age 12 but never dared to voice it aloud. Although, for fear of ruining a relationship with her parents, she kept it a secret. Due to no one knowing, she only dated boys. Until she met the woman she thought she would marry and spend the rest of her life with, Sloane. Hanna was willing to risk it all for her and told her family about her sexuality. She finally admitted at age 30 who she really was. To her surprise, her family was supportive, even her father. She was so grateful for that, not wanting to go back to not speaking to her dad for years again. Sloane and Hanna got engaged within two months of meeting. Maybe it was the recent grief of losing her brother or maybe it was just as that saying said ‘when you know, you know’.
Whatever the case, Hanna was on cloud nine, finding such happiness from the fullness of her life with her fiance now included. That happiness was short-lived when she caught Sloane cheating. Hanna immediately called off the engagement and cut all ties with the woman. Since that heartbreak, Hanna never got close to anyone again. She had some flings, some hookups, some non-sober mistakes, but the female vowed to never have a serious relationship again. Hanna was happy now to avoid utter humiliation and any heartbreak by finding joy in the life of family, friends, work, and little moments. Of course, that meant the romance department of her life was pretty bare nowadays.

➡THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN TO BECOME A NOTED FASHION DESIGNER
Ann Cole Lowe (December 14, 1898 – February 25, 1981) was the first African American to become a noted fashion designer. Lowe's one-of-a-kind designs were a favorite among high society matrons from the 1920s to the 1960s. She was best known for designing the ivory silk taffeta wedding dress worn by Jacqueline Bouvier when she married John F. Kennedy in 1953.
In 1917, Lowe and her son moved to New York City, where she enrolled at S.T. Taylor Design School. As the school was segregated, Lowe was required to attend classes in a room alone. However, segregation did not stop her, and she still managed to rise above her peers in school. Her work was often shown to her white peers in recognition of her outstanding artistry, and she was eligible for graduation after attending school for only half a year. After graduating in 1919, Lowe and her son moved to Tampa, Florida.
The following year, she opened her first dress salon. The salon catered to members of high society and quickly became a success. Having saved $20,000 from her earnings, Lowe returned to New York City in 1928. During the 1950's and 1960's, she worked on commission for stores such as Henri Bendel, Montaldo's, I. Magnin, Chez Sonia, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue. In 1946, she designed the dress that Olivia de Havilland wore to accept the Academy Award for Best Actress for To Each His Own, although the name on the dress was Sonia Rosenberg.
As she was not getting credit for her work, Lowe and her son opened a second salon, Ann Lowe's Gowns, in New York City on Lexington Avenue in 1950. Her one-of-a-kind designs made from the finest fabrics were an immediate success and attracted many wealthy, high society clients. Design elements for which she was known include fine handwork, signature flowers, and trapunto technique. Her signature designs are what helped her eventually become recognized for her work. In 1964, the Saturday Evening Post later called Lowe "society's best kept secret" and in 1966, Ebony magazine referred to her as "The Dean of American Designers. Throughout her career, Lowe was known for being highly selective in choosing her clientele.
In 1953, Janet Lee Auchincloss hired Lowe to design a wedding dress for her daughter, the future First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier, and the dresses for her bridal attendants for her September wedding to then-Senator John F. Kennedy. Auchincloss also chose Lowe to design her own wedding dress for her marriage to Hugh D. Auchincloss in 1942. While the Bouvier-Kennedy wedding was a highly publicized event, Lowe did not receive public credit for her work until after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Throughout her career, Lowe continued to work for wealthy clientele who often talked her out of charging hundreds of dollars for her designs. After paying her staff, she often failed to make a profit on her designs. Lowe later admitted that at the height of her career, she was virtually broke. In 1961 she received the Couturier of the Year award but in 1962, she lost her salon in New York City after failing to pay taxes. That same year, her right eye was removed due to glaucoma. While she was recuperating, an anonymous friend paid Lowe's debts which enabled her to work again. In 1963 she declared bankruptcy. Soon after, she developed a cataract in her left eye; surgery saved her eye. In 1968, she opened a new store, Ann Lowe Originals, on Madison Avenue. She retired in 1972.
➡LEGACY
A collection of five of Ann Lowe's designs are held at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Three are on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. Several others were included in an exhibition on black fashion at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan in December 2016.
A children's book, Fancy Party Gowns: The Story of Ann Cole Lowe written by Deborah Blumenthal was published in 2017. Author Piper Huguley wrote a historical fiction novel, By Design: the story of Ann Lowe, Society's Secret Fashion Designer, about Lowe's life.
Her work has been admired by the designer Christian Dior, as well as the famous costumer Edith Head.

 Journey Of Rolls Royce
In 1904, two young men - Charles Rolls and Henry Royce - met by chance at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, England. The two men hit it off immediately, and soon form a company named “Rolls Royce” a partnership that would change the automobile industry forever. Rolls-Royce is a British luxury automaker. Long COVID is a "public health crisis for kids," experts say - Published Aug 26, 2024
While many people recover quickly from COVID, some don't, experiencing symptoms that can last for months or years.
Rachel Gross, an associate professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Population Health at NYU Langone and the study's principal investigator, told Salon.
In the study, led by the National Institutes of Health’s RECOVER Initiative, researchers asked caregivers to tell them about the symptoms that their children or teenagers had been experiencing more than four weeks after a coronavirus infection. For some children in the study, that meant symptoms their symptoms went on for three months after their COVID infection.
“Some of these kids with long COVID, they are severely affected, they can't do their normal activities, they fall behind school, they can't go to school,” Blumberg said.
According to one study published in the journal Pediatrics, vaccination the risk of an acute infection, but it is less clear whether it protects against long COVID. The latest COVID vaccines were approved by the Food and Drug Administration last week, which the CDC recommends for any six months or older.
“And that many of the symptoms that I've described, trouble with memory and focusing, headache, trouble sleeping, these are symptoms that you know can impact a child and their schooling.”

⸻  HARRY SHUM JR. HE + HIM / have you ever     heard of EXPRESS YOURSELF by labrinth, well,     it describes KIAN ZHANG to a tee! the 39 year old, and STYLIST AT KIAN ZHANG HAIR  was spotted browsing     through the stalls at portobello road market last sunday, do you know     them? would you say  HE is  more dramatic or more INNOVATIVE  instead?     anyway, they remind me of a smuge of eyeliner, vintage clothing, piano solos when the sun’s gone down and a slight whiff of hairspray, maybe you’ll bump into     them soon!
time in notting hill ; 3 years.
tw: bullying, homophobia
ABOUT.
Name: Kian Zhang Nicknames: Ki Age: Thirty-nine Date of birth: 21st February 1984 Birth place: Manhattan, New York Occupation: Hair stylist at Kian Zhang Hair Romantic/sexual orientation: Panromantic/pansexual
Kian was born in Manhattan, New York, along with his twin sister, his best friend from the word go.
He’s second generation Chinese-American.
As the years ticked by he found himself not entirely happy in his own skin, he started dressing differently, wearing the occasional smudge of eyeliner, something he attempted to embrace in high school.
It didn’t go well, the bullying soon followed; accepting apparently himself was frowned upon. Despite the multicultural city he lived in, his expression was limited in his youth.
He didn’t really listen, continued on in private, with close friends he made... with a boyfriend, someone who meant the world to him as time went on. He was someone who stayed a close friend long into his thirties, despite the break-up in senior year.
His creativity came out over time and he embraced it, choosing in the end to make his way into the beauty industry and the Carsten Institute of Cosmetology was the place to do it.
He eventually chose to specialise in hairdressing, becoming a stylist to the stars within a couple of years of graduating.
Shortly after that he found themselves caught up in a new relationship, something that was difficult to balance, but he tried his hardest.
Within a year or so a wedding was on the cards, each detail planned out meticulously. It was to be the beginning of a new chapter for him and when they found out only six months later that she was pregnant, he realised it really, really was.
Somehow, at some point during all of this he managed to open up his own salon in the Upper East Side —- somewhere that ended up with a three month wait for appointments at all times of the year.
Not long after his 30th birthday, the family of three relocated to London, UK, a decision that was made for her work. Kian chose to work on opening a salon there instead, a small franchise that he intended to let someone else run, but with his ethics and style.
As their time in London ticked on, cracks in the relationship began to show, attempting a slower lifestyle ( despite the location ) wasn’t working —- they were both so used to being rushed off their feet.
Two years later a divorce was finalised and Kian moved across the city to be closer to the new salon.
But he soon met someone who changed things, someone who made them want to try again. A couple of years passed, they moved into together, they were complete opposites in a way, yet that only seemed to make their bond stronger. They complimented one another and it was as simple as that.
But then that ended, too, abruptly and painfully. Kian did all he knew how to do, focus on work.
HEADCANONS.
His wardrobe is a rather eclectic mix of things, although his most colourful side comes out when he’s working and less so at home. At home he really is about being comfortable and nothing else.
There’s always the slightest hint of eyeliner with him, he’s never been able to let that go.
He’s been playing piano since he was small and he’s pretty damn good at it now —- can definitely give Beethoven a run for his money.
He’s got a bit of thing for 80′s music and are playing it constantly, especially in the salon.
Can’t play sport to save his life, although he likes to think he was an amazing high-jumper in high school (he wasn’t, but still mention it if anyone every brings sports up).
He collects Disney pins and has never been particular shy about it.
Once got stabbed with their own scissors by an unhappy client.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
- twin sister;  - high school ex; his first boyfriend and first step into being who he really was. they’re still good friends to this day. - ex wife/mother of his child: they were together in nyc and moved to london, she currently lives here too. - exes: a couple of bigger ones that meant the world, as well as a few that lasted only a couple of months. - hook-ups, etc.; he’s not exactly shy and often try to shake off the loneliness with a random bedfellow. - clients; from both nyc and london, he’s worked with a lot of celebs over the years, but honestly, anyone. - an excuse to party; he’ll head out whenever he gets a chance, these are the people who regularly join him.
