EXCLUSIVE: Bharat producer Atul Agnihotri opens up on Priyanka Chopra's exit; Says she hasn't texted till now

Just 10 days before the shoot, Priyanka Chopra had informed Salman Khan that she won't be able to accommodate Bharat in her schedule. Producer Atul Agnihotri gives a detailed account of what followed after...

By now, Salman Khan and Eid have become synonymous terms. Every June, a Bhai film is what gets the box office jingling with crores and fans celebrating. This year will be no different as the superstar gears up to release his next project Bharat. The first few promos and songs have been unveiled and all of it has received a huge thumbs up from the audiences. Recently, we caught up with Atul Agnihotri, who is the co-producer of the film and has put the entire thing together and discussed about the film, the turmoil they went through when they found out that their lead heroine had walked out of the film. 

The film was initially going to reunite Salman with his Salaam-e-Ishq co-starPriyanka Chopra. Everyone was excited since the two actors haven't been seen sharing screen space since a long time now. But all of it seemed too good to be true. PeeCee decided to stage a walkout from the film, citing personal reasons, days before she was supposed to begin filming for it. From what we hear, it was Priyanka who had spoken to Ali and insisted on doing the movie, but 10 days before the Malta schedule, she broke the news of her impending marriage to Arpita Khan Sharma and then subsequently to Salman and informed them that she won't be able to play the part anymore. 

We happened to be present on the sets the day this news broke, but contrary to how people would think it would have been, the entire crew wasn't stressed at all. Atul recalls the day and tells us, "As a producer, I face challenges everyday. What you have seen or heard of is one of those. Some challenges are small and tiring, while some are big but quick to solve. I can't be thinking that I'll be sipping tea and coffee and everything will go my way. That's not going to happen because we are dealing with human beings who are instinctive and impulsive. It was a part of the movie coming together. But Bharat seemed to have a mind of its own. The way things happened, we don't have any regrets."

Atul also adds that he was indeed happier when Katrina Kaif was brought on-board. "Personally, my choice for the film was always Katrina, even when we were discussing whom to cast. The director's take was different - Ali wanted Priyanka," he continues. "So for me, when Katrina came back in the project, it wasn't a setback in my head. I felt it was meant to happen. I'm consciously trying to cater to Bhai's fan base and there's a certain responsibility on me because it's an Eid release. I feel with Salman bhai, nobody looks better than Katrina. There couldn't have been a better time than making a film like Bharat. It's meant to be for them. Everything felt like a setback for a few minutes, but we were never facing a big roadblock."

Talking about the Zero heroine, Atul says, "Katrina is a friend of us all. She was aware of everything. It was extremely thoughtful of her to not ask a single question when we went to her for the film. That is true professionalism. She was motivated right from the start and her intention was pure towards the film. She was determined to give a very special performance in the film and I think this is her finest so far."

Has Piggy Chops got back to him? Atul rues, "Priyanka still hasn't texted me. She never spoke to me about walking out of Bharat. It was a message I received on the set. I was like, 'It's okay, yeh ho gaya. But let's now fix it'. The news came to me via people." But the producer who is known to be an understanding person, adds, "I understand she was getting married and was in love. So, it's okay because that's the bigger decision of her life. Of course, it's great to discover and find love and it's even better to marry the person you love. I wish her all the best for her life. That one day, I could have felt a little different, but at the end of it, when you see things from the hindsight, it's fine."

Did Priyanka's walkout hurt, given that she is also a family friend, we ask. Pat comes his response, "It doesn't hurt. But it upsets your planning. It's a Salman Khan film so the timing of the information left us a little unsettled for a bit. But we are fortunate to have friends and supporters who know that our only intention is to make a great film. Whoever saw that and came on-board, their contribution is priceless. It can't be reciprocated in words," Atul signed off with a smile.

Qawaali Song Of Shahrukh Khan’s Zero Is Peppy Number With Katrina Kaif

Trailer of Shahrukh’s Zero has already arrived which seems like an ambitious project with lots of VFX involved in it. Buzz around the movie is quite high at the moment. Glimpses of couple of songs have been given by director Anand L. Rai already. In one of these songs, Shahrukh Khan will be seen with Sultan Salman Khan and Eid trailer of Zero has given us some hint about it. There are couples of other songs also where romantic side of Shahrukh Khan can be seen once again. Both the songs have been choreographed by Bosco Martis. Choreographer Bosco Caesar has confirmed the fact one of the song is a Qawali. Bosco has said, “It’s a mood-based situational song. Some portions of it were visible in the trailer when SRK is seen running in his kachchha (boxers) on the road.”

Last time, Shahrukh has been seen in a Qawwali while doing ‘Tujmse Milke’ song for Main Hoon Naa that has released in the year 2004. On the occasion, Bosco has said that the Qawwali song is not conventional. He has said, “We have designed something special. It doesn’t have a signature move, but will appeal to the audience.”

In the movie Zero, Shahrukh Khan will be seen as a vertically challenged person. In order to make the character right, tedious work of VFX is done for each and every frame of this movie. Katrina is expected to be seen in a different avatar in Zero also. Regarding the song with Katrina, Bosco has said “With Katrina, you can’t expect anything but a high-voltage dance number. She’s come a long way when it comes to dancing. The whole look and picturisation distinct from what she has done before. We are in the process of filming and it should be out soon.”

Later on, Bosco has also added “We have done Pashmina (Fitoor, 2016) and Kaala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho, 2016) with her. This is one of the biggest dance numbers that we have shot with her in terms of scale”

Meanwhile, one of the most awaited projects of Salman Khan is Dus Ka Dum which is returning this summer. While we have been keeping the readers updated on the upcoming reality show, promos, and music video, we can now confirm that the actor is begun shooting for the show.

We came across some leaked photographs from the sets of Dus Ka Dum. In one of the pictures, one can see Salman back on the stage with his participants while viewers enjoy are seated and watching the show. He is seen dressed in white shirt, denims and beige waist coat. The first episode shooting began today in Filmcity, Mumbai. In another leaked photo, we can see the lavish set which has a vibrant look to it.

A couple of days ago, Salman Khan shot a special music video for Dus Ka Dum. The song for the video has been sung by Mika Singh who has sung Salman’s hit track ‘Jumme Ki Raat’. The said videos will have a peppy vibe to it.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan just began shooting for Bharat. This film is a third collaboration with Ali Abbas Zafar after Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. The film will mark the return of globetrotter Priyanka Chopra.

Wajid Khan, of music composer duo Sajid-Wajid, passes away at 42

Bollywood composer-singer Wajid Khan of the popular sibling composer duo- Sajid-Wajid is no more. He passed away in the early hours on Monday.

Confirming the news, singer Sonu Nigam posted on his official social media handle: “My brother Wajid left us.”

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, though unconfirmed reports have stated the artiste was suffering from COVID-19. A report in filmibeat.com, on the other hand, stated Wajid Khan had been suffering from a kidney problem over the past few years and had reportedly been on ventilator after being hospitalised recently.

Sajid-Wajid recently composed songs for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan during the ongoing lockdown, one of which was a number titled “Pyaar karona”, a pop anthem encouraging all to fight the coronavirus. The song released in April was sung by Salman and also featured the actor in the video.

The composer duo also recently composed Salman’s Eid special song, “Bhai bhai”, which talks of communal harmony.

Sajid-Wajid frequently collaborated as composers for Salman Khan. In fact, they made their debut in the 1998 Salman superhit, “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya”, scoring one song in that film, “Teri jawani badi mast mast hai”.

Sajid-Wajid shot to fame with the Salman Khan blockbuster “Dabangg” in 2010, and there has been no looking back. Among numerous hits they composed were “Tere mast mast do nain” and “Hud hud Dabangg” (“Dabangg”), “Do you wanna partner” and “Soni de nakhre” (“Partner”), “Mujhse shaadi karogi” and “Laal dupatta” (“Mujhse Shaadi Karogi”), “Mashallah” (Ek Tha Tiger”), “Chinta ta chita” (“Rowdy Rathore”), “Fevicol se” (“Dabangg 2”) and “Raat bhar” (“Heropanti”).

As a singer, Wajid recorded many hit songs, including “Do you wanna partner” and “Soni de nakhre” (“Partner”), “Hud hud Dabangg” (“Dabangg”), “Chinta ta chita” (“Rowdy Rathore”), “Tujhe Aksa Beach” (“God Tussi Great Ho”) and “Jalwa” (“Wanted”).

Sajid-Wajid also composed for a few non-film albums. These are Son Nigam’s “Deewana”, Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo’s “Khoya Khoya Chand”, and Rahul Vaidya’s “Tera Intezaar”.

Wajid Khan also was a mentor of the music reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar” and “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012”.

As the news of Wajid Khan’s demise spread, Bollywood took to social media to express grief and shock.

“Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers,” tweeted Priyanka Chopra.

Among the first to confirm the news with a tweet of condolence was composer Salim Merchant of the Salim-Suleiman duo. “Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid -Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family.. Safe travels bro.. @wajidkhan7 you’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken,” wrote Salim.

Vishal Dadlani wrote on Twitter: “Wajid Khan is gone far too soon. His talent and heart were never appreciated enough. All the times we planned to meet & never did because we were busy, those will always rankle. Sajid Khan, mere bhai. You will never be alone & our brother will forever be remembered.”
