While ‘confusion’ was more or less Margot’s default state, it really had been taken a notch today.

They had spent almost a week in the woods, trying to track down the various cryptids and demons that were meant to inhabit the surroundings, but alas, like many times before, they had failed.

Feeling rather glum, they had returned to Salem, only to be met with what their mother would’ve called “baffling hullabaloo”.

Half the people they saw were in a rush, while the others seemed frozen in place, unable to move at all. And between them all, Margot heard the same thing. Amaljin.

The name sounded vaguely familiar, but they had been so focused on the hunt that the gears in their head simply weren’t turning. Or at least, not turning in the right way to figure out what must’ve happened while Margot was gone.

It seemed that the apex of the activity was in the town square, which was to be expected, with more people running around, and some huddling, talking amongst themselves.

And if ‘confusion’ was Margot’s main state of mind, ‘curiosity’ ran a very close second, which lead to them reaching out to a stranger. “Hey, what’s going on?” They asked. “Did I miss something?”

“It sure is kind of people in town to throw a birthday party in my honor year after year,” Simon swirls his third glass of champagne with one hand. His other is slid into the pockets of his dark trousers while he observes the remainder of the partygoers. “It’s always a pity that no one brings any gifts to me, but ah, that’s life I suppose. They’re all too busy having drinks to remember the gifts they’ve left in their car...”

His fingers itch back toward the alcohol table to muse over the various options provided by both Atticus and Micah. “Do you think anyone would notice if a bottle or two suddenly went missing?” He asks. “It’ll be the only birthday present I ask for this year --” And with the number of guests in attendance, he has his doubts that two bottles of wine would be missed too terribly. “Perhaps I should grab a third -- I have a lovely wife waiting for me at home and I’m sure she’d like to toast come midnight...”

hearing about the missing sisters, how there were so many questions regarding their disappearances, whispers of a potential double kidnapping ... it’s a lot for anyone to process. while she felt deeply for those that’re personally affected by this considerable travesty, and she’s doing everything in her power to help out, it’s difficult not to think about how this could’ve happened to any of them --- it could’ve happened to her, to ellie. and that’s enough to make a person anxious, even a little apprehensive. maybe it’s selfish to fear for herself and those they know and care for in salem, but safiya can’t help to be on edge, riddled with so much anxiety they're quickly becoming nauseous. she’s superstitious, too, leaving the handmade doll ( that was otherwise on her person since being given to her ) beside the tv in her motel room. while they struggle to keep intrusive thoughts at bay, takes it upon herself to begin putting together care packages, consisting of bottles of water, granola bars and trail mix. “ how’re you holding up? ” are the first words she’s spoken aloud since sitting at the booth, gaze now on the person sat across from her --- that she had, minutes ago, dragged along to help put together bundles. “ i feel like i’m not doing enough. ” they feel guilty for sitting here while others comb through the forest, but could she stand right now? head’s still spinning and spinning and spinning. “ do you think we should be out there? ”
