Illegal Tree Cutting in Lal Suhanra National Park: Senior Minister Takes Action

LAHORE, April 5:

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has taken stern notice of the illegal cutting of trees in Lal Suhanra National Park in Bahawalpur. This action comes in response to complaints and evidence of the illegal felling of more than six dozen precious and rare trees.

On her direction, 11 officials including a grade-20 chief conservator have been transferred back to their departments. In connection with this matter, a team from the anti-corruption establishment, as well as the secretary forests, have reached Bahawalpur to probe the matter. The investigative team will conduct a thorough inquiry into the types of trees, their total numbers, the individuals involved and other factors to curb this menace in future.

In a statement released today, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against officers and officials involved in the illegal cutting, sale, and wildlife in the forest.

According to the notifications of the Punjab government, the services of Chief Conservator Khalid Mahmood have been surrendered to his parent department. Similarly, the services of grade-19 Conservator Mansoor Ahmad and grade-18 DFO Nadeem Ashraf have also been surrendered to their administrative department.

Among the officials transferred back to Lahore are RFO Hamad Raza of Grade 16, Mumtaz Hussain; Muhammad Saeed (Grade 11) and grade-9 officials including Muhammad Shafique, Sohail Anwar, Naveed Akhtar, Sajjad Ahmad and Arif Niazi.

It's noteworthy that the Lal Suhanra National Park, situated 35 kilometers east of Bahawalpur, spans an impressive 127,480 acres. Designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve, the park is integral to the conservation of forests and wildlife, thereby earning its place on the global conservation list. Distinguished by its diverse landscape, including deserts, forests, lakes, rivers, and marshlands, the park serves as a crucial ecosystem.

Moreover, it boasts remnants of the ancient Indus Valley civilization and is home to a plethora of rare wildlife species.

Ali Naqvi inducted into ICC panel of match referees

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has pulled back its best match referee Mohammad Anis to induct former Test opener Ali Naqvi into the ICC Panel of International Match Referees.     “Former Test opener Ali Naqvi is the only new inclusion as he joins Prof Javed Malik in the ICC Panel of International Match Referees, while Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, Rashid Riaz Waqar and Shozab Raza have been retained in the ICC Panel of International Umpires,” said a PCB press release issued on Monday.     “Ali has replaced Mohammad Anees, who is part of PCB’s six-member Elite Panel of Match Referees. Anees refereed in two ODIs in November 2017 between Papua New Guinea and Scotland in Dubai,” the press release stated.     Ali, 43, played five Tests for Pakistan during a five-month period from October 1997 to March 1998, scoring 242 runs at an average of just over 30. After scoring century on his Testy debut against South Africa at Rawalpindi in 1997, he could not convert that impressive start into a successful career as he managed scores of 19, 30 not out, 11, 6, 27, 13, 13 and 8 in his next eight Test innings.   He retired from first-class cricket in 2011 after aggregating 5,881 runs in 115 matches with 14 centuries and 24 half-centuries.   The Lahore-born Ali is also a member of the national cricket committee, which is not functional at the moment because no chairman has been appointed yet following Iqbal Qasim’s resignation early last month after he developed differences with the PCB over power related issues.     Ali is also included in the PCB Elite Panel of Referees.     In 2014, Ali was appointed as a member of the junior national selection committee before joining the PCB Panel of Match Referees in 2016-17. He was promoted to the elite panel in 2018-19.     But Anis, who has been declared as best match referee of the domestic season in 2016-17, 2017-18 (no declaration was made by the PCB about 2019 or 2020) indirectly suffered for adjusting Ali to the post.     The second referee from the PCB on the ICC panel is Prof Javed who has been retained. When the PCB recommended the names of Anis and Prof Javed for the ICC panel in 2017, the name of former was the first choice as he was the best adjudicator on the domestic circuit.     The PCB did not mention any specific reason for replacing its best match referee with Ali.     It may be mentioned here that this is not first time when the PCB made such decisions that affect individuals who miss out despite giving best professional results.     The PCB changed its best coach Ijaz Ahmed Junior, whose Central Punjab team has won the 2019-20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Moreover, the PCB did not promote another head coach Sajjad Akbar, whose Southern Punjab clinched the Second XI of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy as he is still coaching Southern Second XI in the ongoing National T20 Cup.     Meanwhile, a PCB spokesman said the decision on inducting Ali as ICC match referee had been taken to promote Test and international cricketers on such posts as it was the practice at the ICC. 56 Baloch abducted by Pakistan army in Balochistan and Sindh

Reports from Balochistan and Sindh confirm 56 Baloch abducted and forcible disappeared in a few days. The detailed report is as follows: On 28 October 2017, Nawaz Atta, the information secretary of Baloch Human Rights Organization (BHRO), a Balochistan based human rights group was abducted along with eight others from Karachi. The abductees include eight years old Aftab Younis, 17 years old Abid Ashraf, 17 years old Farhad Anwar, 18 years old Sajjad Yar Jan, Ulfat Altaf, Rawat Taj Muhammad, Muhammad Arif Muhammad Younis and Ilyas Faiz Muhammad. On 28 October 2017, security forces abducted six persons from Chitkan and Airport road Panjgur district Panjgur. Abductees are Murshid Muhammed Baksh resident of Chitkan Panjgur, Salim Khuda Bakhsh, Pir Bakhsh Issa, Khaliq Dad Mengal, Asad Jamal and Issa Raza, residents of Gichk Panjgur. Khan Muhammad was abducted by security forces from Faqir Colony district Gwadar and Khalil Faiz Mihammad was abducted from Teerandask area of Dasht district Kech on the same day. Waris Baloch On 27 October 2017, Waris Baloch, resident of Kohad Tump district Kech was abducted from Naval Colony Karachi. On 27 October 2017, Sadiq Misteri Khan Muhammad was abducted by security forces from Faqir Colony district Gwadar. On 27 October 2017, ten persons were abducted by security forces from Balgatar District Kech. On 23 October 2017, Security forces abducted Yousuf Mula Dawood from a playground in Mand district Kech. On 22 October 2017, security forces from Mundi Gwadar district Gwadar abducted three brothers, Masdak, Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Jan Assa. While Wahag Baiyan and Zahid Gorich, residents of Shapkol Kolwah district Kech were abducted by the security forces in Askani Bazar Aapsar district kech. On 20 October 2017, seven persons were abducted by security forces from Kark-e-Dal, Gichk district Panjgur. Abductees are Khuda Bakhsh Arz Muhammad, Aslam Khuda Bakhsh, Issa Lashkaran, Mubarak Gul Muhammad, Muhammad Jan Dawood, Mazar Mir Khan and Hussain Mir Khan. Shah Nawaz Jalal Khan On 20 October 2017, two teenagers, Qadir Bakhsh Khair Muhammed and Shah Nawaz Jalal Khan, residents of Shuli District Dasht were abducted during a house to house search operation in Bilal Mosque area of district Gwadar. On 19 October 2017, Manzor Gulam Qadir was abducted by security forces in Balgatar district kech, when he was traveling from Kech to Panjgur. On 19 October 2017, a 70 years old man, Karim Bakhsh Jumma was abducted by security forces from Thank Shardoui Mashkay district Awaran. On 18 October 2017, Ghani Master Liaqat resident of Surag Damb bazar, Bal Negwar Dasht district Kech was abducted by security forces from Zero point Pasni district Gwadar and Yousuf Sarwar and Dad Shah Munir were abducted from during another military operation on same day. Javed Akhtar On 17 October 2017, security forces abducted Javed Akhtar, residents of Paroom District Panjgur from Malant, Tump district Kech during house to house search operation while the Frontier Corps abducted Arif Rasool Bakhsh from Bostan Pullabad Tump district Kech, during a same kind of military operation on the same day. On 16 October 2017, as per received reports from Jinnani Bazar in Gadduki-Koh area of Bal Negwar, Dasht district Kech, two teenagers, Saghir Hasil and Nadim Ali Akbar were abducted by security forces.
