Seven Tips to Stay Safe During the Polar Vortex Visit
Seven Tips to Stay Safe During the Polar Vortex Visit
Are You Prepared for the Polar Vortex Visit?
The Polar Vortex is coming to your Texas home this week! While ERCOT doesn't expect problems, you'll want to prepare for this chilly visit with these seven tips to stay safe.
As the Polar Vortex makes its brief appearance in Texas, bringing frigid temperatures, it's crucial to prioritize safety and warmth. ERCOT, the agency managing the Texas power grid, issued an advisory for the coming extreme cold weather event. And while ERCOT does not expect widespread grid failure, local power outages are possible. In light of this, here are seven essential tips to keep you and your loved ones safe during the Polar Vortex visit.
1. Keep Your Car Winter-Ready
Before hitting the road, equip your car for winter travel. Ice and snow can make roads treacherous, so keep essential items in your car. Pack blankets, a flashlight, snacks, and a first aid kit. Make sure your vehicle's maintenance is up-to-date, including checking the battery, tires, and antifreeze levels. During extreme cold, having a well-prepared car becomes more than just a convenience — it's a safety necessity.
2. Insulate Your Pipes
Frozen pipes can lead to costly damages and inconvenience. Ensure your pipes are insulated properly, especially in vulnerable areas like attics and basements. This simple step can prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, providing peace of mind during the Polar Vortex. If your home uses well water, beware that you may not be able to draw water in extreme weather.
If you only have a few exterior hose bibs that need covering, you can use an old towel and some duct tape on each one. Your priorities here are to shield your pipes from the cold, and keep them dry to prevent ice.
3. Winterize Your Home for Power Outages
Have a power outage kit that includes essentials like candles, flashlights, blankets, non-perishable food, and a battery-powered radio. Power outages sometimes impact water treatment plants, so make sure you have enough water to last through the cold weather event. The rule of thumb from the CDC is to have one gallon per person per day. Also, the CDC also recommends always having a two week supply on hand.
4. Dress Appropriately for Extreme Polar Cold
When facing bitterly cold weather, dressing appropriately is key to staying warm and safe by dressing in layers. Wear insulated outerwear, and don't forget hats and gloves. In other words, don’t dress like a middle school boy with a hoodie, shorts, and crocs. Opt for thermal layers to protect yourself from Polar Vortex cold. After all, Texas electricity providers may not be able to heat your home because of grid problems.
Polar cold is coming to visit Texas but you can still save on your electricity rates.
5. Gather Dry Firewood
If your home has a fireplace, make sure you have enough dry firewood to keep your fireplace lit throughout the cold weather event. When your Texas electricity isn’t available, a fire can keep your home in the 50s rather than the 30s.
Normally, you don’t want to store firewood indoors. However, you may want to prepare your fireplace now. So, place whatever kindling you use in the firebox, and set a dozen or so logs on the hearth. Also, keep your other wood covered in case your area gets rainfall.
6. Stay Informed About Grid Conditions
ERCOT has created communication tools like the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS). Stay informed about grid status and any advisories issued. Being aware of the situation allows you to make informed decisions, especially during severe weather events like the Polar Vortex.
7. Check on Elderly Friends and Family
Times like these call for communities to come together and care for one another. So, check on your elderly family and friends before, during, and after the cold snap. They may have physical limitations to getting what they need, and you may have extra because you’re so prepared after reading this list.
Be Ready for the Polar Vortex Visit
In conclusion, staying safe during the Polar Vortex visit requires proactive measures and awareness. Implementing these seven tips ensures that you are well-prepared for the frigid temperatures and potential challenges that may arise. Keep yourself, your family, and your home secure as Texas faces the winter weather ahead.
And if you want to stay prepared for more extreme weather this year, then shop for fixed rate power plans at https://www.texaselectricityratings.com/electricity-rates. Here, you’ll find the best plans from highly rated providers. Your next electric plan is waiting for you!

What do you need to know about gas log heaters?
Tumblr media
Gas log burners are a popular choice for their ease of use, reliability, and versatility. They offer the same features as other types of gas-fired appliances, but they also have several advantages over electric or natural gas models. Here are some tips on how to choose the best Gas Log Heaters Adelaide for your needs:
Effortless operation
In comparison to electric fireplaces, gas logs are easy to use and require no power. You don't have to worry about venting or chimney maintenance, and there is no need for a gas line.
This makes them an ideal choice for those who have limited space or who just don't like dealing with cords and boxes.
Versatile application
Gas Log Heaters Adelaide is versatile. They can be used in any room and in any climate, from summer to winter, from indoors to outdoors. The choice is yours!
In addition to being able to use gas log heaters on the wall or floor, you can also install one over an existing fireplace so that it gets more natural light while still providing you with all the warmth you need during those cold winter months.
Inbuilt safety features
A gas log heater is a great option for you if you want to keep your home warm but also don't have a lot of space in your home.
Gas logs are designed to fit perfectly into most homes and can be placed right next to each other without any problems. They're also very easy to install, making them ideal for those who don't have much experience with DIY projects like this one!
In addition to being safe and convenient, these units come equipped with built-in safety features that make them even more user-friendly than other types of heating systems (such as wood-burning stoves).
For example:
The thermocouple detects flame temperature and automatically shuts off gas if the flame goes out (however, this does not happen immediately). This means that if there is an error on your part when lighting up the pilot light or igniting gas flow - no harm done!
It will only shut off once it senses temperatures inside reach max levels, which could mean hours before turning off automatically again a few minutes later as there is a long time lapse between when flames go out the first time until the next attempt at lighting them again after restarting process all over again.
Realistic flame effects
Gas logs are a great way to bring the ambience of a fireplace into your home. But if you're looking for that authentic, real-life feel, it's important to know how gas logs work and what type of flame effect you should be looking for.
Gas log fires are fueled by natural gas or propane gas. They produce a flame that looks like an old-fashioned wood stove and has very realistic flame effects when lit. There are several different styles available on the market today.
However, some models have been criticized as being too expensive and not worth the cost because they don't offer as much heat output as other brands do (which is why we recommend sticking with our top picks).
The most common types include:
Ceramic Logs - These come in many shapes but generally look like large ceramic stones set atop metal stands which allow them to sit safely inside your home without having any damage done by falling debris such as leaves, etcetera.
Conclusion
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article and have learnt a lot more about Gas Log Heaters Adelaide. These are great if you want a safe and reliable way to heat your home, but there are some things to consider before purchasing one.
The most important thing is that they should be installed correctly by an expert who knows what they're doing!

The electrical outlet on your electric fireplace insert requires its own circuit breaker
How you can Choose an Electric Fireplace Insert
Should you be looking for a new fireplace at home, you may be considering a power Fireplace Insert. As opposed to traditional fireplaces, Freestanding Fireplace Heater Suppliers electric inserts may not be installed in a fireplace's mantel, plus they are recessed into this wall. Some tend to be larger than other people, requiring a fair bit of wall clearance throughout the unit, while others are small enough to fit flush into the wall. You can find several unique variations of electric fireplace walk fit shoe inserts, including see-through products and multi-sided units. Electric log units and inserts are generally both convenient possibilities, and they come with each of the great features of an electric fireplace.
When purchasing an electrical fireplace insert, you'll want to pay attention for the heating system. Although some are completely heat-free, others sacrifice heat to get realistic flame results. To tell that difference between heating system elements and non-heating products, look for switches and a thermostat dial. There are different sizes and shapes of electric chimney inserts, so ensure that you read the requirements before making a person's final decision. Quotes for quality products to use a person's electric fireplace put for heating, choose one having a thermostat.
In words of efficiency, there are two main varieties of electric fireplace attachements. The ceramic types are smaller and utilize a fan to blow warm air into the area. While they never produce as much heat as other styles, they are safer to make use of around children as well as pets. The ceramic designs also use less fuel versus fan-forced coil ones. They can furthermore be installed at walls and ceilings. As well as a beautiful and also cozy fireplace, an electric chimney insert is the best way to save energy and reduce your monthly bills.
In case you have a wood fire, consider getting a stainless steel log set. Utility log sets will be plug-in units plus require no installation. The electric log sets could be installed inside the firebox of the existing fireplace, and will not take up your entire opening. An electric firewood set also lets you control the flames with a remote control. And general health are electrical, there isn't a need for ventilation. This makes them by far the most convenient option for a fireplace with constrained space.
While plug-in utility fireplace inserts are convenient, built-in models require a dedicated wall electric outlet. The electrical outlet on your electric fireplace insert requires its own circuit breaker, as expressing a circuit breaker is usually dangerous. Therefore, you should always check that your home has enough power outlets before installing a fireplace insert. Even so, if you cannot afford to setup a dedicated outlet on your electric fireplace, you should get the setting up done by a great electrician.
While the utility fireplace inserts are considered on the list of safest home heating devices, there are some factors to consider. Make sure that you just have an appropriate outlet for that electric fireplace, and the there are no obstructions towards the air outlets or perhaps inlets. Before shopping for one, EF-1936C 36-Inch Wall Mounted and Freestanding Electric Fireplace Heater, with 12 Color Modes Backlight consult the actual owner's manual intended for safety tips. When many electric fire place inserts are power efficient when presenting flames, they can consume considerable amounts of energy should the heater is fired up.

Alternative Heating: When wood isn’t good enough!
by Tra'Lon Gillis | Jul 30, 2021 | Helpful Tips
Sometimes when heating up the home wood isn’t cutting it. Perhaps you wish for more heat or a wide berth of heat so that the family doesn’t all have to be huddle right in front of the fire. Maybe you want the aesthetic of a flame on wood but not the heat with it, just because you like the look. Perhaps you want a safer or quicker start-up.
Artificial Firelogs
These are logs that are, in essence, candles. They tend to contain a ton of wax along with their wood, allowing for a long burn. When being lit aflame, they also don’t tend to put up much fight. And just like candles, they don’t desire much attention as they go for hours on end. They are environmentally friendly due to creating fewer greenhouse gasses when burnt.
These firelogs also tend to look pretty, and some are even further environmentally safe by using recycled wood bits to be formed. They also don’t create much mess, only a little bit ash at the end, but in contrast, most don’t offer an authentic experience. Replacing the smell of wood-burning with chemical smell or no smell, no crackling or popping less explicitly designed to do such, and the worst part, they aren’t as hot.
These logs don’t tend to burn as warm as the real deal, and if used the way they instruct, are unlikely ever to do so. They are also not great for cooking, not only due to the heating issue but also due to the flavoring. The wax and assortments of chemicals included are likely to affect the flavors of anything used. At least they look pretty.
Coal and Charcoal
There are fireplaces made for coal and stoves as well; the original rivals to wood. So firstly, if you don’t have a chimney or fireplace (or stove) made to burn these bad boys indoors—don’t use them—they burn much hotter and release much more Carbon Monoxide or CO than their contemporary. This is for your safety as if not correctly done, the CO in the air will build and build till you suffocate from lack of oxygen, or the materials used for the chimney may not be able to handle the extreme heat.
Now, let’s say you got the right stuff; you did your research on being ready to use coal in a fireplace and follow directions. Well, good news, you can cook on them, and many like the unique taste of coal-cooked food. Coals are hot, way hotter than most woods, and even after the flames die, the coals likely are smoldering and thus significantly heat up the home. These are the real champions of heating for sure. Coals also don’t produce creosote—mostly—many don’t smoke much at all. Again, however, they produce tons and tons of CO, so that’s a trade-off.
Coals do demand attention, the airflow does need a little managing, and it is critical to make sure oxygen is getting blown into the open entrance to force the smoke up the chimney. They also have a ton of clean-up and don’t make spectacular flames. Unlike the Artificial firelogs, which are looks and ease of use over substance, these are all substance and utility-based.
Gas Logs and Inserts
Gas is the last regularly used heating substitute, besides electricity, but you may as well get a heater and call it a day. Gas comes in a few forms for fireplaces, Gas logs and Gas inserts being what we will focus on, but to cover our bases, Gas fireplaces do exist. Gas fireplaces can be installed if you don’t already have a fireplace and come in Vented and Ventless varieties. Vented means a vent installed in the wall for the exhaust and ventless, meaning the exhaust is let into the house. They burn rather well and form pretty flames. They don’t need a chimney or masonry but are expensive.
If you have a fireplace already, you can convert it into a Gas fireplace with a Gas insert. Inserts do produce less heat than the built-in variety but should do the job fine. Inserts are a box in a box, heating the air in between the boxes. If you are going green, you will be glad to hear they have natural gas options and not just propane. There are some visual cons, though, as due to being two boxes, it isn’t as easy to watch the flames, nor does the fire tend to get as big and wavy as wood. It is possible to cook with these but not recommended; make sure before trying that the fuel is not toxic to consume.
Gas Logs are cheaper than the other two gas alternatives; ceramic logs over a small gas pipe. Gas logs come vented or ventless, just like its siblings. The deal with cooking is the same. These logs are not very good at warming a room and mainly serve to look nice. At least the view isn’t obscured.

Things To Consider Before Buying Outdoor Fireplace.
Do you know that outdoor fireplaces increase the property value of your home? They help to make good memories that can be ever made. Nowadays, every outdoor fireplace comes in a very stylish design, a roundtable, and a heater all in one. Before you search for the best fireplace according to your desire, you need to look into detailed features more subjectively.
Tumblr media
As you are looking for the correct one to install in your home, there are few things that you need to consider. In this optimum buying guide, we hope you will get all the information you are looking for. So let’s continue.
1. Determine What Outdoor Fireplace Type You Want
There are two main types of fireplace, and these options are: modular or fixed-in-place. You have three choices from these two options. You will go into those parts later. First, we are going to share with you about the fixed-in-place fireplaces and the modular one.
You can fix the fireplace in a fixed-in-place you choose, and it will become a permanent yard feature. If you want to remove this fireplace from its installation place, you have to demolish it. That is why you need to think correctly and make sure where you want to install it. The fireplace is gorgeous and
You can move the modular fireplaces anywhere in the yard because these are portable. Keep in mind, they do not increase your property value as a fixed asset does, even though you can place these types of fireplaces anywhere you like. If you are one who likes to make changes in your yard or if you want to avoid construction involved in having one built in the ground, then modular fireplaces are grand for you.
It is time for you to go beyond the movable once you have decided on the general fireplace type. Now it is time for us to determine how your fireplace is going to blaze fire. For that, we have three options: Electric, wood-burning, or gas burning.
Out of these three options, a wood-burning fireplace put on the most natural fire burning element. Naturally, like other options, wood-burning fireplaces have their type of pros and cons. These outdoor chimneys will give you the closest campfire experience in your backyard.
On the other hand, gas-burning metal outdoor fireplaces are the most suitable. Just imagine you can turn on the flames of your fireplace only with the flip of a switch. On top of that, the best outdoor gas fireplace can save a minimum of 25% on your energy bill. These outdoor chimneys are generally inexpensive to install.
Electric Fireplaces do not release crackles, emissions, or fumes. As these flames are not real, you can easily control the amount of heat they emit. If you are conscious about the safety of your children or if you are the one who is just looking for a fireplace with minimal upkeep, this is probably the safest option for you.
Before you make a firm decision, you need to check the ordinances given in your country or city regarding the fireplace. This is because there are some countries or cities that don’t allow specific fireplaces or fuels. Another thing is to make sure that you do not need to make any changes to your policy, and for that, you should check with your homeowner’s insurance.
Once everything is checked, or alright regarding all the rules and regulations, it is time for you to choose a specific location.
2. OUTDOOR FIREPLACE LOCATIONS
Picking the perfect location for your fireplace is a very crucial part. This is because it will affect the flow of your entire backyard. You have to make sure the place where you plan to put your wood-burning outdoor fireplaces allows you to handle unexpected issues. We have given some factors you may consider:
Distance From your Home: The general rule is, the distance of any fireplace or fire pit must be at least 10 to 20 feet away from your home. For more specific guidelines, you can also check with your HOA.
Location of Trees & Shrubs: The area should be 10 to 20 feet away from the fireplace, whether these are trees, shrubs, and bushes, or any other flammable backyard things.
Privacy: What do you want your neighbors to see if they peep into your yard? If you are conscious about privacy in your outdoor fireplace area, you may consider where your fireplace is situated and which direction it is facing.
When determining the location of your fireplace, you may want to leave room for safety issues. Finally, you might want to make sure that your metal outdoor Fireplace is easily accessible without being a fire trap. After all these foundational decisions, so let’s move into the budget part.
3. FIREPLACE COST
While you set a budget for your fireplace, you are expecting the servicing cost also. The cost of placing logwood in your wood-burning outdoor fireplace will be different than a glass cleaner to clean the glass. You should keep these things in your mind while planning or thinking of your budget if you have one.
As the wood-burning outdoor fireplaces require periodic log-replacing store trips, that is why they need overall servicing. The ash of these fireplaces requires cleaning too. These are probably the most expensive, according to the cost.
On the other hand, the Electric Burning outdoor fireplaces are the most economical and don’t require many services. Servicing includes just the cleaning of a glass screen.
You can easily convert the gas-burning outdoor fireplaces into wood burning, but they don’t need so much servicing. They require a tiny portion of servicing than the electric burning types.
4. FIREPLACE PURPOSE & HEAT OUTPUT
The three options of fireplaces have different degrees of heat. So again, you should think properly about the function of your fireplace.
If you are plotting to use your fireplace in the winter or cold months, do you want your fireplace to just produce a hot environment for you, or do you expect to roast food with it as well? Just these simple considerations will make all the difference. Generally, Wood Burning fireplaces carry the highest BTU’s, which means they are the hottest too.
5. EXTRA SAFETY TIPS
It is inspiring to look into the process of purchasing the best outdoor gas fireplace. The more you complete the installation process, the more you notice the new atmosphere surrounding your outdoor space. Just before that, you need to consider some safety regarding your outdoor fireplace. So let’s dive into some safety tips:
There should be a fire extinguisher within a close distance from the fireplace.
Clean your outdoor chimney regularly.
Get a fireplace cover to avoid wastes getting into your fireplaces such as sparks and embers.
Make sure that nothing else gets burned.
Instead of using gasoline or starter fluid, always try to use fire starters.
Just taking these little precautions, you will get the most enjoyment out of your best outdoor fireplace.

Indoor Pets And Fire Damage Risks
For several months, businesses have been creative to keep business flowing and their teams safe. Some folks feel productive in a home office; some employees are longing to return to the office. One group of coworkers, however, is ecstatic about working from home– the pets! Social media has been overflowing with the adorable things they do while we try to log into Zoom, take conference calls, and type with one hand (the other hand resting on the furry friend.)
More than ⅔ of American households have pets that bring laughter, relieve stress, and ease loneliness. However, pets also accidentally start almost 1,000 home fires every year in the United States. And unfortunately, the National Fire Protection Association reports that at minimum 40,000 pets die each year in house fires.
Because of this, it is important to understand the possible places that pets can cause fire damage and the need for cleanup.
 Fire Damage Restoration In Greenville
Cooking In The Kitchen
Stoves and cooktops are involved in the largest number of fires started by pets. By jumping up to see what might be on the stove, their paws can accidentally turn on the knobs with their paws when they do.  Even after turning off the burners, don’t leave tempting food on the stove top unattended. In at least one incident reported by the American Kennel Club (AKC) ®, a curious dog accidentally hit the stove knob and turned on the gas burner, starting a fire that filled the house with smoke. While this may seem like a small number, fire damage cleanup is no funny business and checking for these things is a big deal.
 Tempting Cords And Electrical Devices
Electrical cords can be irresistible to both dogs and cats. Minimize the exposure of cords to your pets. Not only are they harmful to chew on, once damaged, they can short out, spark, and start a fire, resulting in some serious fire damage cleanup. One great way to break the habit is to unplug the cord and then wipe it with a cloth that has been sprayed with bitter apple spray (available at nearly all pet stores.)
 ·         Your pet can easily knock over a space heater by 1) knocking something over into it or 2) leaving one of his toys right next to it. He could also 3) get burned if he gets too close. Also be careful with electric blankets. Both dogs and cats can claw or chew on these which damages the blanket’s heater wires. Once exposed, there is a serious threat of electrocution. The exposed wires could also heat up the sheets or mattress to a point of causing a fire.
Open Flames
Another common cause of house fires started by pets is candles. Luckily, flameless candles are becoming more attractive and popular but still dangerous. Flameless candles use batteries and if your pet chews them, they can cause major digestive upset and burns to the mouth.
Fireplaces and wood stoves are another potential hotspot for pets. Pets can get too close and receive burns to their faces, paws and tails. Protect your friends with a pet-proof screen or a safety barrier. Pets should also be trained to stay a safe distance from stoves, fireplaces, and even chimneys and campfires. As a precaution, you should never play active games (such as ball chasing) in a room with a lit fire.  Curious dogs could toss their toys into it or reach in to investigate. Extinguish the fire before you leave your pet alone around it.
Extra Fire Safety Tips & Precautions
·         When leaving pets home alone, keep them in areas or rooms near entrances where firefighters can easily find them. Keep collars on pets and leashes at the ready in case firefighters need to rescue your pet.
·         Make sure your house is fully equipped with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace the batteries twice a year. According to Consumer Reports you should replace detectors at least every 10 years as the sensors become less effective over time.
·         Have an emergency plan. Involve ALL members of your family – including pets. Then rehearse your plan every year. The National Fire Protection Association has a free emergency planning guide with a grid to map out your escape route.
·         Keep the phone number and address of your nearest emergency animal hospital in your phone. Also, have a current photo of your pet – just in case you get separated from them. Pick up a pet alert sticker for your front door from the ASPCA.
Fires happen fast. In Anderson County, Premier Construction is a full-service restoration company dedicated to fire prevention and quality fire cleanup after disasters. The integrity of your property relies on how quickly the restoration process begins after the fire is out; lingering soot and smoke will damage your home even more if not cleaned up right away.

7 Winter Energy Saving Tips
Energy saving tips for winter months can be easy to implement and result in lower utility bills. But the goal of cutting energy usage is also good for the environment. Implementing a few energy saving tips for homes can go a long way toward putting money in your pocket.
 Ways To Save Electricity
The good news is that there are lots of ways to save electricity when the temperatures begin to sink down to the cold zone. Here are some of the easiest and fastest ways to reduce your energy consumption during the frigid months of the year:
Open     curtains: It's easy to forget about the warming power of natural sunlight.     Open all the curtains in your home during the daytime unless you need to     keep one or two closed for the sake of privacy. This is one of the easiest     of all energy saving tips in winter
Audit:     Have a local contractor do a home energy audit
Seal:     Walk through your home and seal off any cracks, leaks or seams that let     cold air inside
Opt     for LEDs: If you decorate with lights during the holidays, use LEDs to     reduce energy consumption by up to 70 percent
Maintain     water heaters and HVAC systems: Have a professional check to see that your     water heater and entire HVAC system is in proper working order
Add     insulation: Check all the places in your home where you already have     insulation and consider adding more or replacing the old stuff
Clean     frig coils: Disconnect your refrigerator's plug from the electrical outlet     and wait about 20 minutes. Then, carefully use a small whisk broom to     remove excess dust from the coils.
 Stay Safe Too
Winter is a busy time of year for most people, compared to the rest of the seasons. That's why it's important to remember safety in the midst of implementing save electricity tips and other advice. What makes the year's first-and-last season an especially important time to think about safety? Mainly because so many homes have fireplaces. Plus, large numbers of people use portable heaters.
Whenever you use your fireplace or an add-on heating unit, make sure not to leave it unattended. There's no reason to let your urge to stay warm increase the risk of fire or smoke inhalation. If you do use a fireplace to keep your place cozy, always use a screen, never leave it burning in an empty room, and make sure there is ventilation in the area around the fireplace. Fumes from simmering logs can make you cough and irritate your eyes, so always keep an eye on the fire to stay safe and comfortable.
With portable heaters, always place them on hard surfaces, double-check that they're in good working order before using them to heat a room, and don't run them longer than the "max operating time" listed in the owner's manual.

Choosing a Patio Heater: Buying Guide
Enjoying your evening in an outdoor space can be limited to the warm months. Well, unless you have an outdoor heater. Before you go on and pick just any patio heater, be sure to check out the critical factors and features to consider before buying an outdoor heater.
Power Supply
Perhaps the most critical factor is the power supply. Patio heaters use propane, natural gas, wood or electric power. It depends on your preferences, needs availability, and costs.
Natural Gas
It requires a considerable chunk of money to buy and install. But it is quite easy to maintain and run in the long run. For one, you won’t be refilling any tanks. People can gather around or under the heater while the heater emits radiant heat. Since it is stationary, it comes with the disadvantage of not being moved.
Propane
It is the most comfortable kind to install. It only needs a propane tank, and the heater is good to work right away. It can be placed on a different spot around the deck so you can find the most comfortable position for everyone. Its constant refills are the only costs you have to deal with. Learn how to troubleshoot your gas patio heater.
Electric
These heaters come as freestanding models that are plugged into an electric socket. They have similar heating capacity to that of propane heaters only that they always need to be plugged in. It limits how well you can position it for everyone to feel warm and comfortable. On the bright side, electric heaters are the simplest to operate per the heat they generate. But electricity costs can skyrocket when you start using an electric outdoor heater.
Wood
We love the lively mood that wood creates. It makes it easy for people to bond and have some family fun time around a fire. Most wood heaters are fire pits and chimineas that can be put where people congregate. Wood heaters require continuous feeding with wood. You must have a location for the wood, and the pit has to be cleaned of ash from time to time. They can also be harder to start according to weather. Despite the hassles created by a wood fire, most people are willing to forego them to enjoy the feeling brought by a wood fire.
Types of Patio Heaters
There are different designs in patio heaters.
Freestanding Patio heaters
These heaters feature a tall, thin structure with a hooded top. They plug into propane, electric, or natural gas sources. The heating happens at the base while hot air is let out from the top. Freestanding heaters can warm medium-sized to large areas with a height clearance of around 8ft. Most propane, freestanding models come with wheels to allow portability.
Tabletop Patio Heaters
As their name indicates, these heaters are placed on patio tables. They are practical for small spaces and are usually electric of propane-powered. They are portable and can be used in temporary patio settings.
Wall Mounted and Hanging Heaters
Most of these heaters are electric and installed on the ceiling or the wall. They emit radiant heat that warms the things around them. The best thing about them is that they do not get in the way. You can choose from beautiful designs to complement your patio décor.
Fire Pits and Chimineas
These are the wood options for patios. They come in different shapes, size, and styles that fit your patio spaces. The location of pits and chimineas is essential since they need to be away from any combustible materials. You also need to watch kids and pets since they can be a fire hazard.
Consider Your Patio Size
Manufacturers tell you the recommended heating area and range of a specific patio heater. The heating area can be a bit vague since you are dealing with other factors like wind. But the range can give you a good idea of how well the heater warms when affected by outdoor conditions.
For large spaces, you will need to go for high wattage heaters above 2000 watts or 8,000 BTUs.
A few Tips on Patio Heating
Be sure to use fuel that is easily accessible. Gas can be cheap, but if you have to drive miles to get it, it’s no better than electricity.
Choose heaters with different output settings. This way, you can vary heat levels according to the outdoor temperatures.
Small areas do better with mounted heaters instead of freestanding and fire pit heaters.
Choose stainless steel heaters since they are corrosion resistant and last for a long time in decent condition.
Aim to conserve patio heat by helping your heater. Keep the heater under an umbrella or awning to prevent direct exposure to wind. Here’s how to install a patio umbrella.
Ensure to follow safety guidelines especially with propane heaters. The general rule is to keep them 6ft away from combustible stuff and power sources.
Wrapping up Enjoy your outdoors a couple of months longer with our best powerful patio heaters list. Whether you are looking to own a gas, wood, or electric heater, we have something for everyone’s outdoor areas, even if you want 40,000 BTU. Find the best fuel that you can afford, follow safety measures, and remember you can always ask for help if the assembly is a little tricky.
