ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ……𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄
𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: male x Lee, first person pov, alternative universe?, canon-divergence?, soft, fluff, slightly explicit but, really, barely suggestive. if you squint hard enough, you might see some. ㅤㅤㅤ 〔NO BETA〕
𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: okay, but what if Hyperreal got horns like Palefire? or what if Palefire's horns are... actually sensitive? (forget about the canon here, what's that?, so I guess is an au because we know Inver-devices ain't like that, but look away)
────────────── ❁ ──────────────
...
Was it that hard before? If you try enough, you can't for the love of your life, remember when you got so fixated on those two blue horns. So, again, was it that hard for you not to look at them whenever Lee was close enough? Certainly, it is now.
But maybe it's because it has been so long since Lee switched to Palefire so seeing him again, after Entropy and then Hyperreal, one of the —if not the only— strongest frame Babylonia has ever made, immune to the virus itself, making it perfect for fighting Ascendants hand to hand and dealing with dead zones.
So yes, it has been a while since you got to see Palefire again. It is now, too, that you realise how different Hyperreal is from the other two frames. You thought Lee changed after the Tower incident, but you never thought it could also show on his frames as well. The maturity in Lee's latest frame is not seen on Palefire.
Now that you're working with him, the two of you alone, for some reason you feel you're with a younger and more blunt version of Lee. Of course, he just switched just because his new frame needed adjustments, so it's not like his personality will go back to when you both first met. But you can't stop thinking about that detail.
However, your issue is another one, right now. You should focus on the papers in front of you, checking and reading past reports to gather information about some new Ascendants or whatever, but you can't stop your own eyes from going to the words in the page in front of you to land straight to those two blue horns.
You know Inver-devices have started to change, so there's a lot of new Constructs that have them quite hidden, giving them even a more human-looking vibe. Leaving aside some visible metallic parts, like arms, hands or legs, the devices that keep them stable and possible to connect with their human Commandant, are not as obvious as before.
Either way, now you're getting too fixated on them, it's hard to look away, you lowkey want to touch them. You never had the chance, or more like, you never had the urge like you have right now.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You've got some strange taste, Commandant.” The blond construct broke the silence.
oh shit, don't tell me I said that out loud?
You laughed awkwardly, suddenly getting too self-conscious of your own feelings. The embarrassment was trying to take over and you could feel your cheeks starting to blush. You cough, as if that was enough to dissipate those unusual thoughts.
ㅤㅤㅤ“My bad, but I never realise they're quite cute. It add to your charm, Lee.” you replied casually.
You look up and your heart skipped a lot. Not a bit, it was a lot. You thanked the human body for having rib cages protecting the organ because you were sure that, at this exact moment, your heart is too wild and might just leave your body.
Lee is… blushing. Of course, not the first time, he would usually slightly blush after he said something awkward or got praised, but why right now? You thought that maybe he would get annoyed, or just nag at you for saying something so silly and meaningless, so that red crippling over his face was unexpected. He looks even more cute now.
Weirdly enough, there was a second when you thought those blue horns changed colours from a dull one to a bright one. As if reacting to Lee's feelings, just like Punchy. But that's not how Inver-devices work… right?
By the time you could think what your body was doing, your fingertips are now resting on one of his horns. It feels a bit rusty, but for some reason, if it wasn't because you already know what they're made of, anyone could mistake them for real ones. They're indeed cute. Skin itching, your fingers are now slowly tracing them.
Lee's body flinches and you retract your fingers. Oh, what if he's angry now? Why are my body and mind not in sync today?. But, lowering your eyes to check his face, now it's fully red. Even his ears are also of a soft shade of pink. You are hoping it is not from anger, you decide to check.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You are mad, right? I'm sorry, I really don't know why I suddenly did that.” you are now retracting your hand.
Lee sighs, then he said, “it's not… that. I'm not mad, it's just…”
Just what? If it's not anger then wha……oh wait.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Are they… sensitive?”
He doesn't answer, but he doesn't have to, really. You move your body closer, maybe too close for the sanity of both of you, but you have the urge to tease him, just a little bit, because you love seeing him flustered, you adore when he loses his cool and he is a complete mess. So your fingers go back to his horns, slowly touching them, in a quite suggestive way.
And Lee knows. All of that. Is he hating it? Partially but just because he also knows how much he likes it. He never thought he would be so turned on by such a stupid thing, yet, there he is. Puffs of air, his breath is erratic and he knows his body is too hot. Your soft skin touching him in that way is killing him, he is suppressing his voice, biting his lips. Lee is sure that if he stop doing that, he won't be able to control some moans.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Does it feel good?” you ask, you know he does feel good, it's pretty obvious if you look down enough.
You don't waste time. Your other hand is now resting on one of his legs, fingers tracing in circles, slowly moving to his inner thighs and getting close to his dick, already hard. But not enough… And you're surprised when Lee's hips move, trying to get close, he wants to get touched.
Oh boy, you're gonna be the death of me.
You retracted your hands. Lee looks up at you, confused, watery eyes, and face as red as a tomato. It's written all over his face “Why did you stop?” so, before standing up from your seat, you close the distance, your lips barely touching his ears.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Wait a little longer. It will get better at night.”

𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: Lee's pov, gn reader, canon-divergence,
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: “I hoped for luck, I looked for it and believed, not knowing it had your name in it” — just something silly, maybe a log from him. might be ooc 〔 NO BETA 〕
…………
It wasn't easy. I think it never was. But at least, for a few years we weren't all by ourselves, maybe it didn't seem to be that way, or that's how I'd like to remember it. The point is, it really wasn't easy.
Young, inexperienced, and people would gradually try to take advantage of our situation, of our own nativity, innocence, or some would just try to help us for their own selfish reasons, personal satisfaction or beliefs, eventually leaving us alone. Waiting for some good luck to strike us and change a little bit our cruel reality, only to find out life doesn't work by luck. The world doesn't work by luck.
Luck is false hope for the powerless, the less fortunate, to feed their delusions, that one day things will change, one day perhaps their luck will change and misfortune will leave their side and be replaced by a God that'd help them. That is luck, and I keep thinking so. I believed in luck back then, desperate for a chance, merely to be met by the unwavering proof of reality.
I swore to do whatever, anything and everything, just to keep him safe. Growing up by the taste of bitterness, the mould in the walls and the cold sheets, inside a room that was not safe for either of us, it made me realise I was part of those adults. Working nonstop for some exchanges that barely kept us alive my mind was going numb, my hands were too cold and my logic was losing focus. I believed in luck. But luck was not an option, never was, never will. However, things needed to be done, anything was good and valid if it meant I could get the chance to save his body from his weak heart.
Did it ever cross my mind the idea of becoming some sort of hired assassin? No. I don't think anyone ever grows up having those ideas. Yet, there I was. Loading a gun, hiding in the darkness, my hands tinted with crimson red, cold as the river. Money was the only thing occupying my mind, my reasoning blind due to the lack of time. Yet I know it was also a bad idea, what if I end up dying? What if, for a single stupid mistake, I end up getting killed and disposed of like a bag of trash? He would've ended up alone. Risks needed to be taken.
So I took them. And I kept going. One step at a time, and I thought things would get better, falling in the traps of luck. Because even if I was smart enough, I was still a teenager, I was still a young, inexperienced kid trying to make it to another day. Eighteen years old, and I should be studying. I should be concentrating on which university I wanted to go to, maybe going out with some friends, maybe celebrating my birthday, his. Perhaps travelling to other places and taking pretty pictures for the memories with our family. Anything but whatever I was living right now.
Eighteen years and I was holding a gun, pointing at someone I didn't know and I didn't want to know. The more I knew the less I wanted to be part of this, the less I wanted to keep going, but that wasn't for me. I was selfless, as the older brother, that was what I was supposed to do. My job was to take care of him, to save enough money and help him. Did I ever regret it? No, I don't think I ever did. But I did wish for luck to come and help me. I couldn't never sleep properly, the idea of being unaware of what was happening was unpleasant to me. The same fear hunting me down whenever he went to sleep and I didn't know if something bad would happen. His heart was weak, and the days were harsh and cold.
But we made it work.
Did I mention how bitter is reality? I did all that, I killed so many people, I was betrayed and for what? For the world to take away the slim chance I built for a better tomorrow. Crushed by humanity's mistake. I refused to let go, so I took yet another risk.
I had the chance to give up my humanity for him to remain, for him to be strong, to finally have the chance to grow up in a stable environment, experience what people of his age do. That, I don't regret it. Even if it means to be betrayed again, to be used and disposed, to me neglected and hurt, to be left alone. It didn't matter, for the reality was slightly better than before.
But I didn't want to test luck. Yet I kept hoping. Even if I was against some of his choices, I still thought it was good because it meant he was growing, he formed his own opinion, forged his own paths. And that was more than enough, I couldn't ask for more. I shouldn't ask for more, right? Because that was all that I ever wanted. For him.
What about me, though? How laughable. Calling myself selfless when I was still greedy enough to wish, to hope for luck to come and save me. I was okay with how my life turned out to be because I was too busy to even think about it deeply. I thought of giving up. Of accepting my own reality.
I was someone who would judge those who believed in luck, or those who would wait instead of taking actions and change their fate. Yet, there I was. Inside that cold room, the dim light of the fluorescent lamps hanging from the ceiling, the industrial design of the metallic tables, and some digital screens beeping in the desk, filling the awkward silence between the three of us.
I was pondering what was the reason behind their decision of becoming a Construct. Did they have an unfortunate life like me? Or was it out of sheer selflessness and their sense of justice? I didn't care enough and I didn't want to know more than their names. Lucia and Liv. Because, from experience, I knew getting to know someone too much meant developing a sense of closeness I didn't want to. Their name was fine, that was more than enough.
It was the same with you. I just needed to know your name, nothing else, nothing more. Because we were made for war, made to fight in humanity's name, looking as human as possible but never being treated like one. We chose to, or forced to, give up that side of us for reasons no one but us would ever know.
Constructs were just that, war machines. To be used and disposed of. Yet, there you were. With your gentle voice and touch, leading us forwards but running at our side, giving us order but hearing our opinions and suggestions in every single step you decided to take. For you, the three of us, meant more than just machines to fight the enemy, we meant more than just a frame and a dog tag. To you, we were equal to humans. To you, we were friends, companions.
And I believed in luck. Because of you. I was able to let go of prejudice and decided to let my guard down, I decided to leave my past and traumas and give you my trust. You ended up being the reason I thought luck actually came and saved me. I wasn't betrayed, I wasn't used, I wasn't disposed of and I wasn't left behind. Because, for you, I was more than just a three letter name, I was someone you cherished deeply, I was part of your team, I was part of this… family.
I wasn't just Lee. I was Lee from Gray Raven. And I was not alone. The world, still as cold and harsh, the fights endless and my hands still hold guns, but now even if they're made of metal, they're not cold anymore. When I walk and I look at my side, there's my teammates and you. You, ready to risk that precious life to protect us, to give a chance for a new tomorrow, to give other people the chance to believe in hope.
You.
That's why, once again, I didn't think twice in risking my life if it means to bring the same chances, to deliver the same hope. Because I am Lee from Gray Raven, I decided to do what I only could do, fighting against time, against any odds, giving my life, my past, present and future to hope. Giving myself to this new family, giving my life to you, refusing to give up and settle for less. I made up my mind never resting again, not until I could meet a reality where Gray Raven is always together, the four of us.
And I will keep doing so. As long as Gray Raven exists, as long as you are here with me, I will keep fighting, I will keep holding those guns I used to hate the most, I will keep going forward, I will keep hoping. Because even if the world is cold and dark, every day the sun rises from the horizon. Because every single time, spring comes after the winter and the flowers bloom admits the chaos.
I once wished for luck to come and save me, not knowing it had a different name. Your name.

𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: canon-divergence ; Lee's pov ; sfw ; slightly angst. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ 〔 NO BETA 〕
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: what if Lee got stuck in a loop? it's based on this tweet I posted weeks ago.
〔 if you like what I write or my edits, consider tip me on ko-fi. you'd help me a lot by donating me. thank you lots 〕
────────────── ❁ ──────────────
It has been so long, too long to count. Nonstop fighting for an end that is far from near, for a thin lay of hope that may or may not come out of the cruelty of reality. The light it's too dim, the air is too heavy, toxic and corrupted, no matter how deep every breath is, it never makes him feel better, less relaxed. Less lonely.
His hands are tired, his legs are having a hard time trying to keep up and his M.I.N.D is completely numb over time. Losing sense, and every single moment that peace seems to greet him, it flies past him as fast as one of his bullets. Breaking him in the silence of rejection, in the middle of the tower where escaping is not an option. For how long will this keep going? He does not know. And, to be fair, he doesn't want to know either. The crushing weight of having a clock ticking, counting what's left and what's yet to come, is not pleasant.
So he opted to ignore it. He made the decision, that day, to do the job only he was able to do. Because that was his sole purpose, at least for now, as much as he wished to change this twisted fate, it wouldn't be fair for those outside. If he was the only one capable, then so be it. Sacrifices must always be done. Be it time, or his own life. Just for the illusion that outside everyone is safe. He will stand over and over, shoot his gun, kill whoever or whatever gets in his way, for a slim chance.
There are short moments when everything is quiet, when not a single cry from despair could be heard, except for his erratic breathing, his feet dragging him to the stairs to finally take a seat after hours of battles and the loud noise of his weapon against the floor. He closes his eyes for a few seconds before taking a small device to call them. He just wants to have a few minutes to talk. Hoping. Wishing.
The call makes it through, and two faces greet him, smiling happily. The girl in red breaks the silence first.
ㅤㅤㅤ“It's been a while, Lee.” she stops, as if pondering if it's plausible to ask about his condition when it's obvious. “How are things on your side?”
ㅤㅤㅤ“Nothing new. The fights are endlessly annoying but, it's fine. I'm fine.” His voice cracks at the end, how terrible he has been at lying lately, or maybe he is too tired to pretend. Lee knows his teammates are aware of his state.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Lee…” the soft voice from Liv seemed to echo inside the tower, he nods and smile, “I know it's useless to say but, do please take care of yourself. I also know you're capable but.. We are worried about you. Especially Commandant.”She finished, her pink eyes showing great concern.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Commandant is a bit busy now. We would've called him but I know you have your ways.” Lucia explained, a chuckle escaped from her mouth.
Lee laughs at that. Indeed, he has his ways to contact his Commandant. “Thank you, I really mean it.” He finally spoke, the bitterness can be tasted, smelled and felt. Too heavy. “My time is running out. When I get another break, I will try to contact you guys again. Please take care.” He smiles again, and ends the call.
There's never a “goodbye”. Because he doesn't want to think about an end. As much as he is tired and his frame is at its limit on par with his M.I.N.D slowly losing complete focus from time to time, more often than not, Lee would reject the idea of a last call with his friends. That won't happen. He refuses to let that be part of his reality.
More often than not, he finds himself considering giving up and leaving, letting the wheel of destiny decide his punishment but there's something, someone, that keeps him from doing so. Or more like a “possible future”. Where there's no one, when the person he has come to cherish a little bit too much is no longer by his side, where his teammates are no longer walking with him but just a name in a marble stone. That was scary enough for him. The weight it's too much again.
His break is about to end. Taking a deep breath, he takes his device and taps a message and presses the send button, with the same address. For the same person. With the same words. He can feel an insufferable pain packing up inside his chest, filling the space between his ribs, crushing his artificial heart. He is shaking. His eyes are burning and tears are building up, but it's not the time.
It has never been. It probably never will.
He stands up, weapon in his hands. Time is running and it will never stop, no matter how many times he goes back, no matter how much he wishes and hopes, because time has never cared for that. So, for now, he just needs to keep going, and maybe one day, time will stop for him and he will be able to go back home. Go back to his friends. To his Commandant and be part of Gray Raven again.
…………
The digital screen beeps at the new message. He knows who sent it, and it's the reason he is also a bit reluctant to open it. He is always afraid it will be the last. His fingers trace the screen before lightly pressing over the email icon. A small text shows up, saying:
ㅤㅤㅤ“It's been a while. I know Liv and Lucia are there to take care of you, but I've got to know you enough to understand you're a magnet for troubles. So, don't do anything stupid.
ㅤㅤㅤ I don't have much time, there's nothing new. I am doing as fine as I can, you don't need to worry (I know you will, but don't let my situation distract you from your job, Commandant).
ㅤㅤㅤ ………… I miss you. I miss you a lot. It even hurts a bit sometimes. But I'm always hoping. Hoping that one day I will be by your side again, seeing you smile, holding your hand. I miss your warmth. The idea of going back to you, to Gray Raven keeps me going.
ㅤㅤㅤ I have to go. See you next time.”
And without knowing, despite the distance between them, tears were shed at the same time. Because time was the only thing connecting them.

ㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔. 𝐀𝐋𝐖𝐀𝐘𝐒.
────────────── ❁ ──────────────
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: ah, this is actually something really silly. it's not first pov because I can't write it properly yet (third pov either but) and i don't know, again, I like unhinged Lee an abnormal amount. ㅤㅤㅤ nothing explicit actually, so no need for tags.
────────────── ❁ ──────────────
Entry Number: 60.
It's March 14th. I know, during these times, no one will remember what it means today, I know very well. It's been so long since these holidays were celebrated properly, but deep down I still hope he knows, I still hope for him to give me something, to tell me, to show me. Am I going insane? Am I asking for too much? Maybe. Either way, spending time should be more than enough but I'm getting greedy.
That's all. I need some fresh air.
⸺
Zenas woke up early that day. Or more precisely, he actually didn't close an eye during the entire night, so after rolling from one side to another of the bed and his back hurting from staying in the same position, it definitely was best to just get up and walk to the lounge, after all, he still had some reports to do. A never ending job, actually.
Walking inside and closing the door behind him, everything engulfed in silence and the first ray of sunlight barely making their way in, he could see the little dust floating in the air. It felt cosy. Zenas first step directed him straight to the cupboard, he needed some coffee if he wanted to avoid mistakes in those reports, the idea of having to do them again was particularly attractive. He didn't notice.
After he sat down, only then he saw the white box placed right in the middle of the table. It felt quite out of place that it took him a while to realise he wasn't imagining things out of tiredness. After giving it some thoughts, his hand picked the box, flawlessly white and a red ribbon tied. It didn't have a name, there wasn't a note attached to it either, he pondered if opening would be a good idea, it could be meant for someone else. Well, he could just tie the ribbon again and pretend he didn't see anything.
So, white box opened. The note that'd usually be outside was stored inside but instead of a proper message only ones and zeros filled the tiny paper. A binary code. Zenas could help but giggle, it was obvious who left it there, he only needed to know what that code meant. He turned on his terminal and searched.
“ 01000010 01100101 01101000 01101001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00101110 00100000 01000001 01101100 01110111 01100001 01111001 01110011 00101110 ”.
What the fuck? Is this supposed to be romantic? Zenas knew well enough that Lee is a bit odd sometimes, and his emotions and feelings can be quite complicated to understand. He is aware of that, but if he intended to be romantic or give Zenas some reassurance, that message definitely didn't. It made his skin crawl. And he failed to notice it again.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ 💌꒱.*ೃ 𝐀𝐌 𝐈 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 𝐎𝐍𝐄....
𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: male x Lee, although it's first pov so it's also gender neutral, canon-divergence, Lee is out of character, weird ㅤㅤㅤ〔 NO BETA 〕
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: based off one of Palefire's voicelines. Might write a part two when he is a bit more fucked up because MC keep feeding his possessive behaviour.
✂………………………………………………………………………………………………
Ever since he came back from whatever happened inside that tower, Lee has been a bit… weird, to say the least. Because, as someone who has been with him for enough years, you started to pinpoint his behaviour and changes of mood, his humour (or the lack of it), what he likes or dislikes, and you certainly got good at knowing when he's bothered by someone or something.
Today is one of those days. He is bothered, or you could even say he is actually angry. But for some reason it has been a little bit complicated to figure out what exactly annoyed him because he has been avoiding you. Working alone? Forget it, someone is always in the lounge and you can tell it was on purpose noticing how awkward the third party felt during those days. Practice? That's also a no, saying he already taught you everything you needed to know and mentioned how Wanshi is suddenly better at it.
You're losing your patience. In addition to that, he has been spending a lot of time with Asimov, apparently, just for a routine check-up to his new frame and to collect information and whatever else he comes up with as an excuse. He is bothered, and so are you.
Standing up from your seat, you decided to go straight to Asimov and ask for information. He would give in if you go with a good cup of coffee, so on the way to his lab, you bought two. Knowing knocking the door wouldn't work out, you opted to just barge inside. The scientist flinched at the sudden loud noise, looking at your way as confused and tired as ever. He knows you're angry and he can't escape from you.
ㅤㅤㅤ“If it's about Lee, I know nothing.”
ㅤㅤㅤ“I knew it!” you exclaimed, stopping a few centimetres from his face, “something IS going on with him and you're gonna tell me.” you finished while showing him the two cups of recently brewed coffee. The smell was too good to ignore it.
There was an awkward silence until he sighed heavily, rolled his eyes and was ready to spill the beans when a firm and strong metallic hand grabs your arm and pulls you far away from Asimov. You lost your balance and bumped against his sturdy body. You didn't need to look, you already know it's Lee. There's also something else you're hundreds percent sure and it's that… he is angry.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What were you two doing right now?” His voice never sounded so ridiculously sharp. Lee's hand is still firmly holding you close to him.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Blackmail” said Asimov
ㅤㅤㅤ“Nothing” you answered right at the same time.
Fine. Asimov is not entirely wrong, but wasn't he being a bit too petty? Either way, you keep thinking you have all the right to get information about your teammates by any possible means. You give a side eye to Lee, just to check how fucked up you are. And boy, it's really bad. At this moment is when you are a bit sure his eyes can change colour when he's having strong emotions, from those light blue eyes to a slightly darker hue.
He doesn't say anything, instead, he drags you back to the lounge while Asimov runs behind you to get those two cups of coffee off you before locking himself back inside the lab. That bastard, when I catch you Asimov, when I catch you…
Once you're both, finally, alone you feel extremely awkward. You're fidgeting, not knowing what to do with your hands or how to stand, the air feels a bit heavy and it's impossible to not notice how intense his eyes are.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What were you doing with him? And don't lie to me.” Lee broke the silence first, his tone still sharp. He was scolding you. How laughable.
ㅤㅤㅤ“But it's true that we weren't doing anything in particular. I just wanted to talk, that's all.” And you are not lying, and you didn't before, but weirdly enough, you feel guilty.
ㅤㅤㅤ“And you needed to be that close to him to talk?” Lee replied back, his posture changed, arms crossed, with that kind of attitude people have when they caught their partner cheat… wait.
Wait.
Now that you think about it in more detail, Lee has been having that specific attitude whenever you're talking to someone else, whenever you are too close to anyone else but him. It happened before when you were explaining something to Kamui, you could say you were pretty close, and Lee grabbed you the same way he did just before. And back to Wanshi, that sleepyhead has been teaching you about snipers for a while and Lee didn't seem to mind until…
What the hell is going on here? Am I delusional or is this man… jealous? Well, you just need to ask. So you do.
You walk to him, shortening the distance, and you can see he's getting a bit self-aware of his own feelings right now. His eyes are looking everywhere to find the perfect excuse to escape. You stop, only a breath away before your lips can touch…
ㅤㅤㅤ“Are you jealous?” your voice is soft, barely a whisper but it reaches his ears perfectly fine and he's blushing, and fuck if he does look cute all flustered.
He is really trying his best to maintain his cool, but you know you just need to push a little bit more and he will give in.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What's so wrong if I'm too close to Wanshi when he's teaching me stuffs? It's not like he's gonna eat me or something” You smirked, your body is more relaxed and maybe that was a mistake.
Lee grabs you by the collar of your uniform and pushes you against the wall. His eyes are back to that dark blue, which means he is angry again. You're holding a smile, you don't want to keep teasing your good luck.
ㅤㅤㅤ“I need to be the only one that's close to you, understood? No one else but me.” he said through gritted teeth.
If there was someone who would've told you in the past that the soft, caring Lee also had a possessive side you would have laughed in disbelief, but here you are now. And if you're being completely honest, you don't hate it at all. It's even… hot. You think that, maybe from now on, things might get more interesting with him.

𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: male x Lee, canon-divergence? perhaps, explicit content if you squint hard enough, my own commandant (Zenas) because using the same pronouns can be confusing. ㅤㅤㅤ〔NO BETA〕ㅤㅤ MDNI!
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: so, you know the horns? well, now it's the back... you need to read the horns one since it's lowkey a continuation of it.
✂…………………………………………………………………………………………………
Zenas was not having it today. Honestly speaking, he's never having it actually, because every day in Babylonia seemed like hell with all the work he has to do no matter what hour of the day, not to mention dealing with dipshits believing they are some superior beings just for having a “title”.
His anger piling up with each passing second and the lack of proper sleep didn't help, not even a bit. Unfortunately, skipping work wasn't part of his options, considering he had already postponed finishing some maintenance and files. But that didn't mean he couldn't have a few minutes of free time in between and relax a bit in the lounge.
Lee's new frame maintenance was over as well. He was now back to Hyperreal however that means he was also having double the jobs to take care of, as the only frame that could fight directly with the virus without getting infected and corrupted, almost every team in Babylonia wanted him. It was definitely not something Zenas was loving. Lee was his.
So, after working for five minutes, he decided it was time for a well deserved break of an hour. Humming a song he couldn't remember when he heard it first, his legs were taking him to his favourite room, where his favourite construct was now either reading a complicated book about maths just for fun or…working. In any case, Zenas wanted to see him.
Reaching the door, he knocked twice and waited for a response, a calm voice that'd let him in. But nothing came. He went for another two knocks, this time, he added more strength, waited again. Silence. Overly anxious and worried that something might have happened to Lee, he rushed inside. The room was clean and not a single book was out of its place. It was too quiet.
He slowly made his way and there he was. Constructs don't need to sleep, they don't feel tired, but Lee was… sleeping? Or you could say he was in some hibernation mode, he would usually do that when his M.I.N.D was overloaded from working outside, on earth. Sitting on a chair, his arms crossed over the table and his head resting on them. His eyelashes would flicker a little, as if he wanted to wake up but couldn't, blond hair a bit messed up. He looked extremely adorable.
Zenas’ eyes roamed around and stopped at his back. Lee's jacket had a back window cutout, so it was exposed. He could see the details of his frame as well as that blue light coming from specific parts. There was an itching sensation on Zenas' fingers, he wanted to touch. His hand was a few centimetres from Lee's back when he suddenly felt a deja vu. Didn't he do something similar before? Oh, right, how could I forget. Palefire's horn…
He thought, and kept thinking. If Palefire's horn were so sensitive, then what about his back? The more he looked at his back, the more he wanted to try and test his theory. Might as well risk it all if it means he would get a similar reaction. So, not restraining himself, Zenas let his mind go free and his hand rested on Lee's back. Fingertips tracing every single line with a delicacy he never had before for anyone else.
There was no reaction, probably because Lee was in that state but when he was already thinking of retracting his hand a soft moan filled the room. Zenas' hand stopped, and then moved his finger again. Another moan. He was smiling, as expected, his back was also sensitive and that single thought started to consume his sanity and left nothing but desire to keep teasing the blond Construct.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What do you think you're doing?”
The voice startled him, Lee was awake, and he was fucking angry.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Fucking hell, you scared the shit out of me.” Zenas answered, giggling at the situation. Because yes, Lee was angry but he also knew the boy would never do anything to him, and if Zenas was brutally honest, Lee looked hot.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You didn't answer my question.” he said, standing from the chair and taking some distance by walking a bit further away from the human, his hands already tapping on a screen.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You're sensitive all over. Just wanted to tease you.”
Denying it was stupid. Besides, he knew Lee very well, and he was completely sure the boy was flustered as hell because he would always resort to work and focus on whatever is in front of him in order to avoid eye contact. That's what he was going now, looking away, pretending to be focused on something else and ignoring Zenas' presence in the room.
But Lee was too fully aware. His cheeks were red and he hated himself for being so damn weak. Zenas was shortening the distance between them, there was nowhere to run or hide, Lee's mechanical heart was beating way too fast for his own good.
He felt shivers the moment the human's fingers touched his back again. Tracing in circles and Lee couldn't avoid remembering that day when he was messing around with Palefire's horn, how he was touching him, how Lee reacted to that and what he said before leaving. No amount of cold water could've subdued the heat climbing up to his body.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Are you thinking about that day?” Zenas whispered in his ears, soft lips touching him, that familiar voice reverberated inside of him, echoing and leaving marks. He gripped tightly the pen he was writing some reports and broke it in pieces.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Shall we continue, babe?” Zenas said, keeping one of his hands on Lee's back, while the other was going into places Lee wished he didn't have.
The human's body was hot, pressed against Lee and the latter was losing it. He could feel his pulse reaching a speed he never experienced, not even when fighting the most difficult and dangerous ascendant out there. It was hard to keep his voice down, especially when Zenas was leaving pepper kisses all over his neck, ears, and one of his hands playfully touching his inner thighs.
Zenas was a bit impatient but he didn't want to rush anything, it was really difficult to hold himself back. He grabbed Lee by his waist and forced him to face him. Eyes locked, the Construct's eyes had tears formed already, his cheeks tinted of the brightest red, parted lips and soft pink marks on his neck. It was an amazing sight indeed. Zenas lowered his body a bit, and in the blink of an eye Lee was sitting on the desk with Zenas between his legs. The light kisses from before were now more aggressive, tongue tracing every single tooth. Muffled moans coming out of Lee, both of his hands firmly grasping Zenas' hair and his legs wrapped around the human's waist.
It was too hot. Lee felt like his frame and M.I.N.D were about to explode due to the excessive heat he was feeling. But he didn't want Zenas to stop. He didn't care if others could hear them, he didn't care if he was losing his cool. Right now he just wanted to get fucked by his favourite human.

It ended all wrong. Everything turned out to be wrong.
Zenas doesn't remember where, at what point things decided to turn in the wrong direction and changed the course of his life, of one his teammates life. He could not think of any specific moment, choice, or action that could explain the situation at hand at that exact time, but he knew that there was no way he could've turned back to zero again.
Not even now.
The days in Babylonia started to feel too dull, too dark, even the weather felt extremely gloomy, as if the system wanted to accompany him in his mourning. There was always a silence, that no matter how loud the music was, how many people talked, it was impossible to ignore. The absence was abysmal.
Zenas's mind was spiralling to utter chaos and, if he was truly honest with himself, he wasn't even trying to find a stop. The flashbacks of that day, as if they were purposely hunting him and remind him how much everything has changed, colliding with the knowledge of not being able to do nothing, not back then, not now.
He wanted to just sleep and forget about everything. If he were a Construct he would've already asked for a reboot. To Zenas's own disgrace he was but a mere human, and amnesia wasn't something one could ask and be given. He wished he could give up. However, it was not an option. There were still two girls waiting for him to get better, to be back so they could keep with their mission, for them, and for him.
Him. The one missing. The one who wouldn't come back no matter how loud and how many times Zenas called him. His name tasted so different. Bitter.
Unknown to Zenas. He was also calling him, missing him, missing his teammates, missing his days in Babylonia. But he knew that, for his Commandant to be safe, it was best if they thought he was dead. And that's how it should've stayed. How it was supposed to be, yet, not quite meant.
Lee spent the days after the incident of the tower, wandering around earth, cleaning some corrupted and trying to help humans in need. He would search for any supplies that could help them go through their situation a bit better, Lee would also stay in some safe zones by providing some protection, all that by keeping a line and not letting any Construct from Babylonia know he was still alive.
After all, he was technically an Ascendant now. Even if he didn't give himself to the virus and became an Agent, he was still a corrupted, someone who Babylonia deemed a danger, something that needed to be ended. The years he spent in the front lines fighting for humanity meant nothing.
But it mattered little. As long as he could keep helping, it was fine. He just needed to make sure to keep his activities hidden and it should be fine. Right? That's how he planned everything, however, not everything goes according to a certain plan. That's why Lee never expected to see him.
Just like any other day, Lee was scanning the surroundings, his gun needed some repair after fighting nonstop some ascendants he did not know about. The task, as difficult as trying to dry out the ocean, was taking too long, he walked for hours, checked dead corrupted and even the weapons those ascendants were using, to no avail.
The sun was setting down. Wandering during the night being not the best option, he opted for finding a suitable place to rest and hide. That's where he found such a place. A greenhouse.
How come there's a greenhouse? Is that even possible considering the environment? Those thoughts filled his M.I.N.D. It was in fair condition, the glasses a bit muddy, but none of them were broken. He could see even a variety of flowers, wild grass growing outside the greenhouse, birds and butterflies flying happily at the sight.
While keeping as quiet as he could, Lee tried to get close and what he saw startled him. Inside, vintage furniture in really good state, teacups and… food? Two shadows suddenly appeared, Lee clutched down, kept that position for a few seconds before straightening a bit and focusing his visual mode on the two people.
Ascendants? Humans?
He could clearly see one of them, although just from the back, he had long white hair, dressed in a… suit? as weird as it looked, that person was wearing quite a fancy suit, and his mannerisms were as delicate as they could be. Maybe that individual used to be from a prominent family. The latter sat down on a sofa, now the other person was visible.
Lee's mechanical heart started to beat too fast. Chaos formed on his M.I.N.D and he could feel how his frame was malfunctioning slightly at the sight. The height matched perfectly, those pretty and unique eyes, with more dark circles that he remembered, that black messy hair with blue tips. Oh, and that mischievous smile, showing his fangs.
It was him. His Commandant. Zenas was standing there, inside that greenhouse, and moreover, he was having a conversation with an Ascendant. His posture was casual, Lee could notice that Zenas was too relaxed, so that only meant one thing: he knew that Ascendant, he knew he wasn't in danger.
In an attempt to deny what he was seeing, he double checked his visual modules and even did a deep scan on his M.I.N.D, just to be sure that it wasn't a trick or some error. As expected, everything was fine. What he saw was happening.
Lee sat down and rested his back on a rock. He needed to calm down. Of course, it was easier to said than to be done, it has been so long since the last time he saw Zenas, he knew himself very well, denying those feelings and the urge to run inside that greenhouse were too much to handle, but he couldn't let his Commandant know he was alive. Or it would oppose a danger not only to him but also to Lucia and Liv. He closed his eyes and tried to think of just that, of how bad it'd be if he dared to show his face. But oh boy, how much he desired to see him up close, to hug him, to…
ㅤㅤㅤ“Don't lose focus.” he said to himself through gritted teeth.
His ear still picked up some noise. If he wanted he could've easily listened to what they were talking but it was none of his business. At least not anymore. So he only opted to hear small hints that would let him know if Zenas left. And after what seemed ages, the glass door opened and a pair of steps started to fade away.
ㅤㅤㅤ“He left already.” a raspy voice came from behind, “You can come out now, Ascendant.” finished, for some reason the tone of his voice carried some kind of annoyance.
Lee stood up and faced the white-haired person. It was a few centimetres taller than him, up close he could see his eyes didn't match in colour, one was of a dark green and the other was black. He talked and moved with delicacy. Nonetheless, this young man was still an Ascendant, so why did he sound so annoyed? Could it be..?
ㅤㅤㅤ“Why were you hiding here?” he asked, his face was stoic, no sign of emotion, then added, “You are… Lee, right?”
That question left Lee speechless. Did he know who he was? Does that mean, as he thought of, Zenas knew this Ascendant was some sort of friend? He was at loss for words. The silence was enough response for the man in front of him.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Zenas used to talk a lot about you” mencione casually, at the same time he did a gesture with his hand, as if telling Lee to get inside the greenhouse so they could talk. So he did.
After the two of them walked in, the door closed. The young man talked again. “You look slightly different from what he told me, but the overall essence is there. How did he call you?” he pondered to himself while serving tea. “Ah, right, he used to refer to you as his ‘soon-to-be boyfriend’, I remember now.”
His… boyfriend. It sounded pretty, it sounded right. Lee was not aware of it, but a smile took shape, the boy who was looking at him let out a sigh. If there was a mirror, Lee would've probably be shocked now, the warmth inside his body was perfectly visible on his face, that shy smile was still there and there was so much fondness in his eyes.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You can just tell him. He would go with you.”
That line brought Lee back to reality. Now his eyes were locked on the young man's. If he was honest, he wanted to ask what kind of relationship the two of them has but right now there was something more important to clarify.
ㅤㅤㅤ“He is not allowed to know I'm alive. It would out him in a lot of risk” Lee said firmly.
ㅤㅤㅤ“But he—”
ㅤㅤㅤ“I know he…” there was a pause, the words were stuck on his throat, swallowing seemed like a hard task now, “I know he would follow me, but it's precisely because of that reason that he mustn't know about my actual situation.”
The young man, again, sighed heavily. “I never understood him, and now I don't understand you either. It's clear that both of you share the same feelings for the other, so why not make it easy and just be honest?” he took a sir, crossed his leg and grabbed one of the teacup, “What are you scared of? He is a very strong and capable human, and trust me, he is not fond of the human side of his. He would gladly give up that just to stay with you.” finished his sentence and took a sip. Lee could smell it, it was a strong black tea, the same Zenas would usually drink.
Lee grasped his gun with so much strength it started to break, that statement was enough to make him angry. Funny enough that anger was directly at himself, for feeling slightly happy at hearing that, at the fact that Zenas felt the same way he did.
ㅤㅤㅤ“No.” Lee replied, the anger did not subdued. “If you know what I feel, then you should know that I would never do something that'd put him in danger. So I suggest you keep your mouth shut and keep this conversation hidden from him.”
The next few seconds were filled with silence, not far away the sound of birds could be heard. The tension was so palpable, anyone who dared to enter that greenhouse would've been able to feel it, even cut it with scissors. The Ascendant took a few more sips from the cup, placed it back on the table and stood up again, walked straight to Lee and stopped two steps away.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You would do anything he ordered you, right? That's how loyal you are.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Yes.” he answered.
ㅤㅤㅤ“If he asked you to kill yourself, would you do it?” the man questioned him again, his eyes showing not a single ounce of emotion.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Yes.” dry, sure of himself. That was Lee's answer.
The Ascendants let out a chuckle. It seemed that he was not expecting such loyalty. And there was not a single second where the man thought Lee was lying, what made it even more surprising.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What a duo of insane people.”

It comes without saying that, practically, everyone knew to some degree that you had a favourite construct from the three in your team. That didn't mean you disliked the rest, hell no, that was far from reality, but it was hard to deny how weak one of them made you go right on your knees.
If one has to pay attention to the “practically everyone”, maybe you could pick a few other human Commandants, or those Constructs that never got to work with you, that'd be reasonable. However, your weakness was also completely oblivious. Fine, maybe not that unaware of your feelings, but you were quite sure he was just… ignoring them.
Lucia and Liv would tell you it was just out of habit, of Lee trying to distance himself from others, building some pretty tall wall made of the hardest brick one could think of. You understood that well, after all, it was well known to you what he worked as before becoming a Construct. Yeah, it was understandable. But after so many years working together and having gone through so many difficulties, you were sure that he trusted you enough.
He probably did. Yet some things needed to be worked on, it was just a matter of time, you would say to yourself. That's why you swore to never push your feelings to him, you'd be sure to not make him uncomfortable or trigger some flight or fight response because that'd be terrible. The last thing you wanted was for him to hate you, or to start treating you the way he used to do when you first met. Back to square one was not an option.
Yes, you were trying. Really. Right now you are also giving your best to not give up to your impulsive thoughts. Your hands closed in fists, nails piercing your skin, red marks with the shape of the crescent moon starting to form in your palm, thinking about something sad or unfair that happened before, anything. How difficult.
The blond in question was standing in front, close enough you could smell his scent, so fucking close you could see the soft pink of his lips and the long eyelashes protecting his pretty pale blue eyes. He is talking about something, you remember he wanted to review some past missions and check his performance with his new frame, his immunity. For the love of the universe, you can't remember a thing and your ears are not picking anything he's saying.
Actually, you are, in fact, listening, you can feel your ears being blessed by his soft voice, the way he explains how his weapon works, showing you a video or that's what it looks like. But your brain is not processing the information fast enough because it's focused on a different thing. The sad memories are not working as they should be.
ㅤㅤㅤ“....dant…”
He is so damn pretty.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Commandant!”
The sudden grasp in your arm and loud voice startled you. He was looking up at you, eyes locked with yours, mind slowly drifting away again but Lee talked again. Keeping you focused.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Are you okay? You seem to be lost in thoughts,” he said, his voice filled with a noticeable concern for you, his eyes as softer as they could ever be, “we can continue this later, you should rest.” Finished while turning off the digital screen.
In those seconds he said and did that, you relaxed your tense body, your nails stopped marking your skin and decided to risk it all by giving in to your impulsive thoughts. Lee started to walk away from you, probably to let you rest and leave the lounge but you acted fast. Your hand holding onto his arm, pulling him closer again and, in seconds, you kiss him on his forehead. Lightly, but enough to give you a boost of serotonin, dopamine, whatever else, his hair softly tickling your lips and you could sense him tense up.
Stiff as a rock, red as a tomato. His blue eyes were as wide as they could be, and it was obvious how confused he was feeling right there. You swore not to do something he did not want to, to not give in, but how couldn't you? For you, he is the sweetest, prettiest of all.
You are standing there, waiting for him to get mad, or push you away, but instead, he looks at you. His red cheeks give him an incredibly cute vibe, Lee never looked as innocent as he is now, eyes so glossy as if he is going to cry at any given moment. Both of Lee's hands hold yours, tiptoeing, he kisses you.

……………… 〔 🌺 〕 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐬
... the constant whispers, the inaudible voices, the disturbing image of your lifeless body in his arms hunts him every single night, every time he is not occupying his mind on something, it'd fill him with anxiety and... fear, of losing you.
There's a reason why he has been overly-protective of you. he wouldn't leave your side, caution of every single movement, scanning the surroundings countless times because "it's never safe enough..." and you feel like he wants to say your name, but it's afraid. Afraid that he would wake up and you'd slip away into a darkness he can't reach you. And you're not oblivious of that, trying to find the perfect words for comfort, resting a hand on his shoulder, caressing him endearingly, and he might smile and cheer up a bit. But that stern face...
Today is not different. Writing reports, helping Lucia while Liv analyse some data to send to Asimov, his desk is buried with the paperwork he still needs to work on, you've asked him why he refuse your help, or why does he keeps them for the night. But his answer are vague, saying that he works better when it's quiet, or that those needs extra time and to be checked more carefully, yet Lee would avoid your gaze. He lies.
The two of you are left alone in the lounge. The work finally finished and you thought of it as the perfect chance to talk but his behaviour, again, it's... weird. Spacing out, as if he's looking at something that's not there, at some dream he cannot touch, and that worried expression taking over him. You call him, a couple of times, but your voice reach deaf ears, he hasn't moving. So you decided to approach him, slowly closing the distance, your heartbeat wild inside your rib cage. Those seconds it took you to decide whether if a slight touch on his back would suffice, you automatically hug him from behind.
Your arms wrapped around his waist. His body is tense, he isn't reacting and you wonder if it was the best decision, timidly retracting from your embrace but, surprisingly, he grabs you, firmly, not letting you go. And it's warm, so damn warm you both feel like melting into one. Right at that moment, there was nothing to worry about, now whispers, no bad dreams, just him and you. Everything seemed fine.

𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: the room drowned in silence, yet it didn't felt awkward for either of the two people inside; as words were not necessarily needed, both of them knew their feelings very well.
┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈
Zenas had been trying to find Lee for a couple of hours by now but, to his own bad luck, he kept on getting dragged by others for whatever reasons. Check a new mission brief, dealing with other Commandants and their questions about how it was possible that he could deal with the corrupted with his bare hands, and the list grew endlessly.
Patience was a virtue and Zenas clearly lacked that one. It was growing too thin and he knew, if someone dared to block his path again, he would have to fill up a complaint and hand it to Hassen sooner than later. So, as usual, he wore his favourite face, frown eyebrows, walking with long strides, eyes focused on the front and with the peculiar aura he always carries with himself that screamed “no friendly for anyone”.
And, as usual, it worked. Zenas could reach Gray Raven's lounge. Lucia and Liv had already left to help Celica with some paperwork, since having some free time on Babylonia counted as some sort of sin that needed to be repentant. The place was in complete darkness and silence, however, some rattling noises could be heard from behind Lee's door.
He was here. Someone's heart beating off the usual calm track, but it's not like Zenas didn't notice. Because that's the effect Lee had over him, completely weak and unable to form proper sentences sometimes, to the point he would just keep quiet and watch him work. Peacefully, heaven might be just that.
He knocked the door twice, and waited. A muffled voice answered him, letting Zenas know it was okay to come in, and so he did. Swiftly closing the door behind, his eyes traced every single corner of that, already well known, room. Digital screens showing maps, some of them had red spots marked in specific parts, others filled with just zeros and ones, as well as words and codes the human failed to understand.
The two desks, completely covered in screwdrivers, nuts, cables of various colours, parts of an outdated terminal, papers scattered on the surface and weapons's parts. Lee was sitting behind one of it, a small nightstand illuminating his workplace, his mechanical arm was resting over the desk, and with his free hand, Lee seemed to do some basic repairs.
His blue eyes never lost focus, concentrated at his fullest; it was one of Zenas's favourite traits of Lee. He could trust his teammate to always deliver something of great quality, be it new optimization to his exosuit, repair of his weapon and many more things. He let out a sigh, not out of tiredness, but something else.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What is it, Commandant?” Lee asked, not looking at him.
Zenas hates that title but it still sounded pretty coming from him, as some sort of assertiveness, a bit silly though.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Nothing. Just wanted to know if you were okay. You've been too quiet lately and it bugs me.” Zenas closed the distance, picked the only free chair left and placed it close to Lee, but still leaving enough room to not make him uncomfortable.
ㅤㅤㅤ“I don't remember being too talkative, or am I?” Lee picked a different tool, he was frowning.
ㅤㅤㅤ“You know what I mean.” Zenas replied, he grabbed an USB driver and took a look at it. It was blue, Lee's favourite colour and was slowly becoming his, too. “I feel like you never tell me, us, anything. Sure, you have your reasons but I hope you know you can trust us. Always.” he finished placing the USB back to the desk.
The room was filled with silence, again. Unspoken words, but it was clear that Zenas still hit the jackpot. They had been working together for so long to the point words are not always necessary between them. This time made no difference whatsoever. Zenas knew Lee had been going through something complicated, shouldering it all by himself, as he always did, but this time seemed different.
He was no expert in reading others, but Zenas learned how to understand his teammates and that's the reason why they complemented each other so well. Lee may be a quiet man, he wouldn't talk unless necessary or if being asked something, and if he did it was just to explain a mission, engineer or binary code. However, it was easy to tell there was something going on he was unwilling to share.
Zenas had to admit that pissed him off, a lot. Yet he understood there must be a reason for such behaviour and decisions. He just wanted to know that Lee was okay, and to make sure of one important factor…
ㅤㅤㅤ“You're not alone anymore, you do know that, right?” he questioned at the same time he placed one of his hands over Lee's. Making his stop right in the middle of his job. “We are here, with you.” Zenas's thumb slowly caresses Lee's synthetic skin.
Lee looked up this time. Making eye contact for the first time since Zenas came inside his room. The physical contact was minimal, and if it wasn't because Lee's skin was quite sensitive he wouldn't have even noticed the small act of affection. An act Zenas never did, to anyone. The human’s eyes were always a mystery to the Construct, not only in matter of colour but because they either showed too much, or anything at all.
Zenas's eyes either were full of hatred, annoyance or just empty shells. Not this time, and that's why Lee's mechanical heart seemed to malfunction, the rhythm was a bit off, and he knew his cheeks would end up turning red. He tried his best to think of something else but his M.I.N.D was blank, weirdly enough.
Ever since they met, Lee fully understood his Commandant was considered a really pretty human, violently beautiful. And the more he got to know him, the more he felt drawn towards him, gravitating around, thinking about him too much, letting the human take control of his feelings. He also understood he had to keep all that to himself.
But at some point, both of them knew it. It came to a point where trying to hide it was impossible, especially when they're burning for each other, when their skin screamed each other's name.
It was just a minute, probably, or maybe two, but for the two people inside of that room, it felt like an entire life just ran past them. However none of the two wanted to look away first. Lee was not sure when or how he got the courage, or how his body just did something without his consent, acting too much like a human out of impulse. But he did it either way.
Leaning towards Zenas, closing the distance between the two bodies, yet maintaining eye contact. Lips finally touching.

Finally, it was over.
What it felt it was going to last forever ended in the blink of an eye. The once raging Hetero-Creatures now lying on the dusty floor, scattered all over the place. The same could be said of the different Constructs and Commandants, their bodies resting full of scars and blood after such an intense and senseless fight caused by the Tower. But those who were still standing and didn't get affected didn't look in better condition either, one could see in their faces how tired they were, both mentally and physically which was understandable.
However, it was over. That crimson red that once decorated the sky, giving such an ominous feeling, was replaced by a warm blue light. Instead of making everyone feel as tiny as ants now, the Tower represented humanity's hope, taking away the uneasiness of the upcoming future and giving Earth more time.
The Gray Ravens, despite the state in which they were after giving their best, were now waiting for their missing teammate. Whilst Lucia and Liv were helping those conscious by giving proper treatment to their wound, the Commandant was patiently waiting.
Sitting on a rock, the human's body was clearly at his limit. His mind, after connecting with a considerable amount of Constructs to keep them safe from the previous thread, was a complete mess. He could feel the heaviness of his eyelid, trying to shut down and put his body to sleep but he refused to. Not yet, when the reason for that blue light didn't come back from the battlefield.
A few minutes more, that felt like years, and his com device rang a few times. Without thinking it twice he picked up the call, expecting to see his friend and having a nice conversation. However, the only thing he could see was the bare land and the Tower quite far but the boy couldn't be seen.
ㅤㅤㅤ Lee?— the Commandant asked, there was a hint of concern in his voice. Did something bad happen? thought to himself. — Where are you? We are waiting for you to come back.
ㅤㅤㅤ Zenas… — there was a pause, static filled the awkward silence but after a few seconds, he talked again. — I am sorry.
The call ended.
……
Heart beating rapidly, his body was falling into an abyss, completely dark and there was nothing he could do. Far away, he could see a familiar silhouette so he started running but instead of getting closer the distance was becoming considerably worse. Suddenly the Tower was red again, the world was engulfed in that crimson blood.
Zenas woke up. It was a nightmare, the same nightmare he had been having since they came back from Earth after the Tower incident. It has been two years since then and, even though they were still fighting the virus as usual, trying to retake the blue planet from the hands of the Red Tide and Ascendants, even when it seemed like nothing much changed, something actually did.
Instead of four, now three feathers were left. His name wasn't in the memorial wall but the absence of his peculiar presence was unbearable. After that call two years ago, none of the Gray Raven saw Lee again. They searched nonstop day after day, refusing to give up, refusing to let him go to no avail. It was as if he disappeared without leaving any trace. But that was something he was capable of doing, indeed.
The team was given a few weeks to properly recover, not only from the physical wear but also emotionally after missing such an important part of them. The three of them knew, however, that no matter how much time they were given, it would've taken forever to come in terms with such a fact.
In any case, Gray Raven even opted for more work.
He took as many missions as possible, he even took care of all the paperwork, and decided to give a hand to other teams as well. He was trying to keep his mind as busy as possible to avoid any intrusive thoughts. Regardless, when night fell, it was hard to keep a good mood. Again, the absence was killing him. The guilt of not being able to help Lee, of letting him go alone to climb up that Tower, the regrets of giving up on his search. He felt he didn't give the very best to search for Lee. So he would opt to sleep when he felt tears making its way. Crying wouldn't help.
Today wasn't diferente. Woken up by the same nightmare, buried himself with paperwork and took missions to keep themselves busy. This time it was just a scout mission, nothing too complicated, but served its purpose. And after getting ready they flew straight to Earth. Safely landing, they stepped out of the transport craft and quickly did a sum of what they were supposed to do. Again, nothing out of the ordinary and the idea was to finish it off in a few hours, go back, and repeat the process.
ㅤㅤㅤ “Commandant, I will check the surroundings just in case before starting.” — said Lucia, she looked as determined as ever.
ㅤㅤㅤ “Alright. Liv and I will talk with the people and see if we can get anything useful. Take care.” — replied, after what happened back then, he became even more worried about the two of them. The feeling was reciprocal, too.
After Lucia left, the two of them went straight to the scavengers resting. Apparently the Ascendants started to be more active in that specific zone or that's what they kept on saying, mentioning a peculiar “agent” that would wander around, just observing the surroundings. Once Liv did a full body scan and made sure their vital signs were good, with the help of some Constructs stationed in that area since a couple of weeks earlier, started to accommodate some supplies they had brought from Babylonia.
Everything seemed good. Once Lucia came and reported back the situation, they ought to make an early report and send it to Babylonia. Nevertheless, Zenas decided it was still better to check once again, and going even a bit further, he didn't want to miss anything. And so they started to walk away from the safe zone.
The sun was shining as bright as ever, there was a cold breeze that gently played with the dry leaves resting on the ground, birds could be heard not too far. At that specific moment it felt like a normal autumn day, as if the punishing virus didn't exist and Earth was as peaceful as ever. He stopped in his tracks, the Tower was still standing, the blue halo was brighter than ever.
He could feel how the guilt and sadness was taking over him. That was a novice mistake. Too absorbed in his mind, reviving some memories he didn't see the threat that was observing them, nor did he realise he was the target of a gun. The blood was rapidly leaving his body, soaking his exosuit. He remembers seeing Liv running to his aid, Lucia was fighting someone, but they were too far and the Red Tide was, somehow, getting close. He lost consciousness after that.
….
A loud bang woke him up from his slumber. A door had been closed, was he in a basement? How about Lucia and Liv? Were they fine? He tried to get up but the pain was actually pretty bad and every single movement made him dizzy.
He heavily breathed and, with the little strength he had, forced his body to a sitting position. The room was completely dark but there was a small window, letting some light in, however it was far from enough but at least he could see some pieces of clothes soaked in blood, a few blankets beside his bed and a rusty night table. That's all. Except him, there was no one else. It was obvious that he got separated from his teammates. Again. A rush of anxiety was building up in his chest and cold sweat was starting to form on his forehead.
He heard steps. Someone was coming. A door opened and a figure appeared. The person was wearing a big and worn out cloak, covering the face and part of the body. Whoever it was, it didn't want for their identity to be known. Either way, he still tried to ask and see if he could get some answers…
ㅤㅤㅤ “Where am I?” — his voice was hoarse. As expected, no answer. But considering how hard that person was trying to hide from them, it would've been stupid to actually answer. He tried again.
ㅤㅤㅤ “Who are you? and why did you save me?” No answer. That only confirmed the obvious: whoever that person was, he knew them.
He tried to move closer, trying to reach the hoodie of the cloak but a hand stopped him midway. It was a robotic arm, no synthetic skin, just the white metal could be seen. A construct? But.. who? He couldn't remember someone with that aspect. That simple movement put him in pain, was his injury that bad?
He winced but tried his best to not lose the attention to the one in front of him. At that time an alarm rang, his exosuit was telling him that the punishing virus was high enough. His eyes widened at that fact, it only made him more confused because whoever saved him, it was an Ascendant. Out of the blue, he remembered that last conversation he had with Lee. How he apologised and disappeared. But why was he thinking about that now? Anxiety was again filling every inch of his body; if it was indeed an ascendant then he wasn't sure that he was saved for good reasons.
While he was lost in thoughts, and even getting nostalgic over some memories, the person in front of him turned to face him, and unexpectedly, handed him a bowl of… food. It smelled good, he had to admit. Yet he refused to eat it.
ㅤㅤㅤ “What do you want?” Are you the Ascendant that has been observing those humans?” — he knew by now that the percentage of getting an answer was below zero. It was getting on his nerves. “I am not in the best mood so stop acting like a mighty being and answer me”
Silence filled the room but it was quickly broken by a chuckle. Did the bastard just laugh at me? Zenas was ready to ignore the risk of fighting off a corrupted, his anger was building up pretty fast at that point.
The Ascendant let out a sight. With a swift movement the hoodie wasn't hiding the face, and even if the light that entered from the window was the same as nothing, he could still see it.
ㅤㅤㅤ “Why do you always end up in such state?”
His heart was beating so fast, he felt like it was just a matter of seconds before his ribcage was broken into pieces. There was a faint feeling of dizziness, his mind was a complete chaos and it was hard to swallow. His throat was dry. Time stopped.
He inhaled and breathed out. Zenas repeated the process many times and after his mind finally became just a white page, he did answer.
ㅤㅤㅤ “Lee…”

ㅤㅤㅤ 〔 🪽 〕 …… 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄
…… can he blame you? can he, really, after the decision he made since the very beginning?
His own choice. The moment the heartbeats started to be more loud, more erratic, more often than not, the moment his eyes followed you everywhere, every movement. When his ears picked only your voice, every word you said with the ability to calm his M.I.N.D yet, at the same time, made him so unstable.
Your sweet voice calling his name, every day. Your anxious run towards him, the tears on your eyes whenever he got hurt, your arms protecting him from more powerful enemies than you, but never giving in. He knew you would've done anything and risk everything to keep him safe. Lee also knew... both of your heartbeats were in sync.
Life is not that simple, it never was and it's not mean to. He's a construct and you're a human. There are rules, but is it really because of that? No, the rules didn't matter anymore. It's the thought of seeing you die, because he know if he has the chance to have you, he would find a way to keep you, forever. He would never let you go. And that's not what you deserve. Just freedom.
Yet, he's there now. So close, yet so far. Seeing you so happy with someone he doesn't know, or he doesn't want to remember. Lee doesn't care, because it's not him. And it's not him because of the choice he made, the moment he realised those strange feelings you awoke within him. Lee decided to keep his distance, out of his own selfish reason, knowing it was hurting you.
You knew. You waited. But time pass by too fast. Lee didn't change his mind and you decided to let go, understanding.
Lee will keep yearning for something it will never come back. For you.

𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: male x Lee, alternative universe, hurt, hurt-comfort, angst, mature content, physical and emotional violence, psychotic. 〔 NO BETA 〕 MDNI!
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: “you just wait, when I meet you for real , I will poke you right back”... how many times? 133...thousands...?
────────────── ❁ ──────────────
How could this be? How could this be remotely possible? Did he make some sort of awful mistake to be going through this? Maybe he was having a very realistic nightmare.
But, did it matter? Whether he was having a nightmare, or a bad joke, that wasn't important anymore. After enduring for who knows how long, his brain couldn't come up with a reasonable answer to this new reality. Trying countless times to find a solution, to talk through, finding a way to set himself free and reaching nowhere, giving up led the list. Why would he keep trying?
Physically and emotionally devastated, inside such a tiny room with no window at sight, the only artificial light of a pale blue colour, tied up to a hard iron chair, his skin felt extremely dry. His eyes already accustomed to the darkness would squint at the mere brightness, a sharp pain in both of his temples would force him to close them. He needed sunlight, he needed food, clean water and a warm bath.
Those daily needs that seemed so common and more like a right as a human being were now a far dream. A luxury he was not allowed to experience anymore. Why?... well, just for “poking” too much, apparently. Alone, again, in that room he would remember how everything started, cursing under his breath, but could he actually blame himself?
Poking, yes. He remembered playing a game, he remembered liking a bit too much a certain character and he ALSO remembered quickly tapping the screen because he liked that interaction the most. How this character would “joke” about being childish or how he would “pat” him, with a soft smile and gentle blue eyes.
“You just wait, when I meet you for real I'll poke you right back.”
“Every time you poke me, I will pay it back exponentially… So– you've done it a total of 133637 times. Are you ready for me to return the favour?”
Those two lines would make him giggle. It was just a game, it was just a character and it was just a cute interaction. So how come he ended up in such a situation? How can he blame himself when no one would've thought that character would be able to come out of the game and “poke” him back? However, it doesn't matter anymore, if it made sense or not. The reality was different, and the pokes were no longer a silly joke.
So, sitting on that chair, tied up. Inside that room, he would wait for Lee to come every now and then and…
……
…………
When Zenas logged into the game a month ago he found out his main character on the screen was not there. A glitch? Could be, after all, his phone's battery was at its lowest and it wouldn't be weird if the game lagged a bit. He didn't pay much attention and decided to play for a little bit before going to sleep. Totally unaware something was coming for him.
Waking up, feeling something warm playing with his hair, it took him a solid minute to realise someone else was there. Abruptly his body jolted and sat on the bed, his tired eyes were forced to quickly adjust to the morning light and focus on the person sitting on the mattress as well. A mechanical body, soft light blond hair, pretty pale blue eyes and a gentle smile, everything he was used to seeing every time he would log in. The character, Lee, was there… right in front of him.
Zenas, not sure what to do, body not moving at all and his mind was going haywire. How could that be? Was that a joke? A dream? Yeah, it must be that, a fucking dream. But the Construct talked and Lee's voice reverberated through his skin, growing deep within his heart, he lost consciousness seconds later. When Zenas woke up again, he found himself in the room he's locked in at the exact moment.
The door screeching against the wooden floor brought him back. He could feel the pain again, he felt his skin getting colder with each passing seconds, minutes, days and weeks. There were even moments when Zenas thought his pain tolerance was at his limit but Lee would do his best to refute that, awakening his senses from the slightest numb sensation. The character he thought was the sweetest of all ended up being a psychopath. How laughable.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Commandant.” Lee broke the silence, with the usual gentle voice, manipulating Zenas’ mind. “Did you miss me?”
Zenas let out a chuckle. No, it wasn't funny, at all, but that involuntary action was out of his own insanity, the amount of pain he had felt the past month after being physically tortured with different objects, his skin being ripped apart and stabbed countless time with screws and needless of all sizes, pushed his mind to limits Zenas thought he didn't have. Weirdly enough he would answer that question with a yes.
Was this what therapists would call Stockholm Syndrome?

…… a day off in the lounge, after who knows how long, the team was finally granted a few days of freedom. The Commandant had already put aside every single paperwork, left his exosuit to be repaired since it was heavily damaged from the last encounter with Ascendants, wearing nothing but comfortable clothes fitting his style, he was resting on one of the sofas.
Liv and Lucia had go to visit some places they wanted to go after the proper papers were signed (constructs are not allowed to leave if it's not for mission unless the Commandant signed a notification and was approved by Hassen), and so the only one was him, enjoying the silence and letting his mind drift to the world of dreams.
A knock on the door. He groaned and walked to the door, before he could even try to open it came another knock. How impatient was the one behind it? A metallic sound, the person behind was none other than Lee himself. With him, there was a small box-shaped CUB, a screen showing an emoji. Zenas thought it was the same deadpan face of Lee. How cute.
ㅤㅤㅤ“What are you doing here? I thought you wanted to visit your brother.” Zenas said while resting on the sofa, again. He couldn't take his eyes from the small buddy.
ㅤㅤㅤ“I already did.” As usual, his face did not change, but Zenas noticed the emojis on the CUB did. For a split of seconds, it looked... happy? before it returned to the serious one.
Lee noticed his Commandant eyes not leaving the small thing beside him, so he handed it to him. It seems that everyone thought Punchy was rather an interesting CUB, and not only an amazing combat partner but very useful in other aspects.
Zenas eyes beamed in excitement. He held the CUB with utmost care, he definitely didn't want to break it. Observing how detailed it was but also speechless at the fact, despite looking quite small in size, it could turn itself into an entire fist and destroy some corrupted without sweating a bit. It was indeed interesting.
He looked at it for quite a while, smiling every now and then, patting its "head", or rubbing its "chin", like he would do with any other dog or cat. Punchy did give the feeling of a pet more than a cub, even Bianca's or Karenina's one that had animal shapes didn't make him go this wild. Maybe it's because of the "face", or because it was owned by Lee. Perhaps both options were valid.
On the other hand, sitting in front of him, was the blonde construct. Zenas was too oblivious to notice, but the blue eyes that would hold kindness for him were showing some annoyance. For some weird reason Lee could not understand, there was a strange emotion forming in his chest, a bit heavy, but mostly he felt.. angry?. The more he looked at Zenas being close to the CUB, giving it so much attention made his mechanical veins boil.
Abruptly Lee took Punchy out of Zenas' hands. Startled by the sudden action, it took him a moment to form a sentence.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Why did you do that? Give Punchy back, he's cute” Zenas complained, frowning. He extended his hands, waiting for Lee.
But that last word, cute, made Lee even more annoying. What was this feeling he was experiencing? Weirdly enough he didn't want to see Punchy now, he was even mad at the small CUB. The only thing that happened was Zenas being overly excited to see it and, after a few minutes of observing, Lee started to feel that way.
ㅤㅤㅤ“... no” Lee answered, but his voice was barely a whisper, almost inaudible.
Zenas was taken aback. Was he... sulking? He looked down at Punchy and the emojis on the screen changed so abruptly, as if it was hard for the tiny pal to discern what its owner was feeling. It suddenly clicked in Zenas mind, but it sounded so ridiculous, maybe he was wrong and there was something else going on, but nevertheless he had to take the shot and ask.
ㅤㅤㅤ“Lee...” he had to take a pause, what would he do if it was actually that? he was going haywire already. “Are you... jealous?”
Lee didn't reply, but Punchy did. Who would've thought that his other partner in battle, the one he himself created to make things easier, would betray him this way? The screen showed a specific set of emojis, lines between parenthesis. Lee was feeling embarrassed. So that only meant what Zenas said was true.
Lee's face was partially hidden by his blonde hair. But Zenas could see his ears, they were so red, he thought if it was possible, his entire face and neck would also be tinted with the same colour. He chuckled, not to mock him, but because that fact made him extremely happy.

ㅤㅤㅤ. ;; [🎐] `INTRO
This is Sae or Chrono 〔 he/him | 20+ 〕, I'm currently playing PGR and, in case it wasn't obvious, my favourite character is Lee.
I made this account to just post about BPN-06 (might talk about other characters as well if I feel like). I will also post my edits, and my writings. All of them are properly tagged, you can find them under the tags (sae pgr edits — sae pgr writings, respectively).
My writings are all Male OC x Lee. Everything will be tagged properly, especially if there's NSFW (not sexual) content. Eng is not my native language and I don't have beta reader, besides, everything is just short drabbles.
My OCs here: Zenas (Commandant OC) ; Arawn (Construct OC) ; Lyall (Variable OC)
If you like what I write or my edits, consider donate on my ko-fi page. Thank you.
