pairing: saebyeok x fem!reader

summary: after she promised to not leave you with no explanation again, she comes home to see the result of breaking that promise

The first time it happened, you had no idea what to do with yourself. It was not normal for your girlfriend to leave you without any explanation. She would always tell you where she was going, even if it was to just get your mail. You thought about calling the police and report her as a missing person, but if you did that then that would open the possibility that she might not come back.

When she came back you were outraged that she told you nothing, she did say some excuse and you pretended that you believed her. The thought of being angry at her was out of the question though when she walked through the front door. You could not help but say something to her, to not do that again, to just talk to you, that there is a better solution to this.

When you woke up the next morning she had left you once again, this time with a note that read:

Sorry. I love you.

Sorry!?

That made the rage even stronger than the first time. Whatever this was truly about; money, her brother, her past, had meant more to her than your relationship. That was okay with you, but you thought you deserved better than a note with four words. Four words that probably held no meaning in them as she wrote it.

As much as you loved her and cherished her in your heart, you also did not want to spend a lot of your time being revolved around her. You still had a life, you had a career and bills to pay, and you did all of that as you should be. You also felt a little helpless knowing nothing with where she went or what the hell she was doing. When you were a wreck you made sure to keep it behind closed doors, and away from Cheol.

You would visit the boy nearly every day, and he was just as worried as you were, even a little bit more if that was possible. You would bring snacks over whenever you visited and you two ate them, sometimes in silence and other times you would speak about your day, the nature around you. Anything to keep your mind off the worst scenario of the woman you loved.

Dinner was cooking in the kitchen, you had put on a sitcom show to keep your spirits high and the night sky peaked through your curtains. The squeaks from the front door made you turn around and you nearly dropped the spoon you held for stirring.

Your girlfriend looked as though she was a walking corpse, a walking corpse who had a credit card in her hand. You stilled on the spot, not wanting to make the wrong move. Saebyeok took off her jacket and placed the card on the kitchen counter. She took a step towards you, but stopped when she saw that you took a step away from her.

"I'm sorry," she said, her eyes glossy, "I lied to you, I left you, and you deserve an explanation. You deserve more than what happened. I don't know where to even start, but all I ask is time to get my story straight. It was so fucked up."

You took a moment to not break down in front of her, "I don't care about whatever you're going to say to me. I am not looking for an explanation of where you were. I have one question for you and you better be absolutely fucking honest with me."

"Yeah?"

"Can I trust you, like at all?"

"I want you to."

"That was not the question. After what you have done, should I trust that you'll not run off again. Should I trust that you won't leave me alone to pick up the pieces for your brother?" you asked with a few tears down your cheek.

Saebyeok approached you immediately and held your face, her thumbs brushed away the tears, "No, no you should not. At the end of the day I am a thief, and a liar, and greedy. I should not be with you in the first place because I am everything that you are not. You have a good heart."

Your breath was shaky at how close you both were, finding it hard to keep your composure, "I fell in love with a woman who loves her family, who is brave and will do anything for who she loves. But if you are going to leave me worried for you, thinking that you might be dead, then I cannot see myself with you."

"The greed in me wants to keep you to myself, I need you in my life, my love. I can be better for you, please let me be better for you," Saebyeok whispered, "One more chance?"

"One more chance," you agreed before kissing her lips.

Summary: just a little chat with the quietest girl in the room.

You’ve had your eyes on her for a long time now. The tall, skinny, brunette girl who is sitting on her bed a few meters away from yours; you can feel her pain just by looking at her.

After several glances, she ends up turning her head to face you.

“What?”

You shake your head, still staring at her intensely, though.

“Nothing. Just watching you. You're pretty, you know that?”

Her face remains impassive and it takes her a few seconds to respond in a cold, flat tone of voice.

“Uh-uhm.. thanks?”

She awkwardly shifts her attention back to the empty space of air just in front of her; lost in her own thoughts again.

You get up from your bunk bed and walk over to hers to sit by her side. You bend your legs in a comfortable position while she pretends you're not shoulder to shoulder with her right now.

“So... why are you here? If you don't mind me asking.”

“...Debts.” She simply mutters as her eyes averting back to her lap. Her hands grip onto the edges of her tracksuit pants tightly. She does not like to talk about herself much, it seems.

“Debts,” you repeat, thoughtfully.

After a long moment of awkward silence, you rummage the pocket of your tracksuit jacket and take out a pack of cigarettes.

“You smoke?” You ask her, offering her one.

She takes the cigar and stares down at it for a moment, seeming to contemplate the decision.

“No. Never; but I guess I won't die from trying for once. It's not like I'll have time to get addicted anyway.”

You hand her the lighter after lighting yours first.

“You're always this optimistic, or did I catch you on a good day?” You tease her with a playful smirk.

She shrugs as she lights her cigar and next hands you the lighter back.

She coughs slightly at first, but manages to take a couple more of drags before set the cigar aside with a grimace. You can't help but let out a small chuckle.

“Do you have a name?” She asks, all of a sudden.

You take a long drag and lean against the white wall before answering her.

“Well... people used to call me Y/n, so I guess that's my name. And yours?”

“It's Sae-Byeok. Kang Sae-byeok.” She mutters.

“Well, Sae-Byeok, I'm so glad to meet you. I wish it had been somewhere else, though.”

You two remain silent for a long time again, one next to the other; but this time the silence doesn’t feel so uncomfortable as it felt before.

“You know... tonight is going to be a really tough night. I heard one of those assholes over there.” You point at a group of players a few meters away from you with your cigar. “They were planning a riot.”

She flicks over to look towards the direction of where you're indicating now. Her dark eyes narrow.

“Did you hear anything else?” Her face turns into a slight scowl. “Those men... they're dangerous.”

You shrug while yawning.

“Nop, but I guess they're planning to kill us one by one while we're asleep or something...” You speak carelessly.

Suddenly, your eyes light up and you look at her with a big smile.

“Hey, listen! Now that we're best friends, why don't we team up? You know, you watch my back and I watch yours. What do you think?”

She sighs, contemplating the offer for a moment. Finally, she nods.

“It'll be better then being alone, I suppose...” Sae-Byeok shrugs gently. “And don't call us 'best friends'.”

You giggle and nudge her gently. “Oh, but we are now! I mean, It's easier to survive if you're with someone, and I think we'd be great company for each other. Not you think?” You smirk.

Sae-Byeok sighs.

You two know each other from college and Sangwoo always had a crush on you but never acted on it.

He gives you small hints for the games, taking your hand by his forcefully making you go for the circle in the honey game.

Yes you are angry at him but Sangwoo is thinking in your survival (and his) and also thinking how good your hand feels against his. How soft your skin his and how cute you are when you press your hand around his when the game its announced.

Still....you are dense and dont let the past go easily. So you end ignoring him most of the time. You tried once to get the reason of why he stopped talking to you but Sangwoo said it was not the time to talk about it.

So you go back to ignore him.

However one night he decides to go back to your bed. Laying down with you after one particular hard game, using your vulnerable state to whisper sweet words to help you feel less scared.

You just happened to lose one friend in the marble game and now you are too tired and sad to understand things. So of course you let Sangwoo in your bed. You let him pull you towards him, he kisses the back of your neck and ear making you shiver. He would use one hand to caress your belly imagining a life with you an a child in the future.

As some times passes you will find yourself trusting him more. Sangwoo ends being your shadow and your brain. Literally, he is the one who takes the decisions and does not let you say anything.

When the game of the glass bridge came you saw how Sangwoo pushed that men. You two fought over it like a married couple him saying it was to protect you but you still blame him as a murder.

And Sangwoo ends mad but somehow aroused by your strong persobality and convictions so he takes your hand and makes you go to the batrhoom with him with the excuse that is to wash the blood but its to fuck you inside one of the stalls.

Truly, you are not sure if you want him like this but at the feeling of his hot brath against your neck and his demanding kisses. His fingers touching you nice and fast hitting your weak spot and then his hard dick ending inside you and how he tells you how much he has dream about this and how nice you feel around him. You dont even notice when he cums inside you till later that night after the nice dinner they gave you.

Since you two are being so loved by the rich people seeing the games its decided two can win.

So now you have to fight off Gi-hun and Sae-byeok something that does not set down with you till you see Sangwoo killing her once Gi-hun its knocked down on the floor, blood coming out from his head.

And so the game ends. You two are drugged again and left on a cold park together. Sangwoo its the first to wake up and would quickly check his account and make you check yours. Since you are too stunned to do anything Sangwoo will use this chance to take you back to his aparent. He knows you will be mad at him for the next weeks so he needs to have you by his side so he can convince you that he is the best choice you have (you dont have one) and that you need him. Because who is going to believe you about the games? For sure you will need someone to talk to.

Basically, bond by trauma and manipulation. I can see him getting you to see his mother (who you already knew) telling her you two are an item and since you cant bring yourself to break the poor humans heart you will you accept your fate by Sangwoo side.

Ali's Betrayal [Squid Game]

Watching the Marbles Episode of Squid Game, Ali was one of my favorite characters along with Seong Gi-hun, Hwang Jun-ho, and Kang Sae-Byeok. 

I did cry really hard from Ali's Betrayal from Sung-Woo, considering not only were they close friends, but Ali was too kind to other players, but trusted Sung-Woo the most in the Marbles game especially. 

In this screenshot fanart, I imagined what Ali said in his own head, realizing how Sung-Woo tricked him by letting Ali hold the "Marbles" in the pouch to keep them safe to find other players they could beat to both survive together, resulting in him silently saying in his head from shock, would be "Sung-Woo, How Could You?.." or "I trusted you..". 

I loved how I drew Ali in an Anime Cartoon-like style, and adding a little more to the scene to make it more emotional. ^^

I also cannot wait until Season 2 of Squid Game comes out! :D

another sae-byeok winner au thing i wrote, sort of pride month inspired bc there’s some lesbian introspection, but its mostly just Sad and Depressing(tm).  word count: 928

“nuna?”

sae-byeok, hands rising from murky water to dry another ceramic plate, hums lightly in response from her place at the kitchen sink.

“who’s ... ji-yeong?” her brother asks, with uncharacteristic hesitation.

it is only by virtue of her quick hands that sae-byeok knocks a glass off the counter and clumsily catches it before it can shatter on the floor. her hands shake, even after she sets it down. “how do you know that name?” she questions, harsh. harsher than she’s ever been with cheol. guilt needles uncomfortably in sae-byeok’s chest as she turns away from the sink to look at him, even if she’d rather not see the hurt in his eyes right now.

“you were talking in your sleep last night,” he says, looking down at his plate, not trying to avoid sae-byeok’s gaze but doing a pretty good job of it anyway. “again.”

it’s pathetic. makes sae-byeok feel sopping wet with humiliation to be caught muttering someone’s name in her sleep, some girl’s name like a lovesick teenager. “she’s—” no one. not anymore. but sae-byeok could never say that out loud, those words too heavy to ever rise up her throat. was half an hour of trading secrets enough to make them friends? it felt like they were ... something more. something sae-byeok doesn’t have a word for. but if there is a word for it, then surely ji-yeong would know. 

but because ji-yeong is dead, gone, sae-byeok will have to go through the rest of her life trying to find that word without ever speaking of it.

“you ever kiss anyone? or didn’t they do that up north?” it’s easy to imagine the smirk ji-yeong’s wearing, roguish and teasing, like one of them wasn’t about to have their brains blown out by the end of the hour.

“i never felt that way about the boys my age,” sae-byeok dismisses, quickly, massaging the knuckles of her fingers to give her hands something to do.

she hears ji-yeong snort behind her. “i wasn’t talking about boys,” she says, like it should’ve been obvious.

sae-byeok looks up, confused. even more confused than she was before ji-yeong explained mojitos and tequila sunrises.

ji-yeong’s smile begins to fall before returning, that mischief coming back with a vengeance. as impish as it is, it’s a good smile. a great smile, even. “you’ve never thought about girls that way?”

sae-byeok looks away when she feels the tips of her ears start to burn, face getting hot like they really are sitting under the scorching evening sun. like it was nothing at all, with just a single question, ji-yeong managed to chip away at walls and rubble to reveal this long-ignored truth, one sae-byeok always refused to uncover. 

she has thought. fleeting thoughts sae-byeok turned from, avoiding them in favor of focusing on the things that really mattered: her family, and getting them back together. it would be too selfish to entertain those thoughts, the ones that arose when deok-su’s girls came around wearing too little clothing and showing too much skin, or when the young woman ringing up her takeout order smiled at her too brightly, or even when memories from her youth resurfaced, ones of her closest childhood friend teaching her how to cartwheel, holding hands and smoothing hair as they ran inside from recess. there was too much guilt surrounding those thoughts, unable to pay any mind to them when her love life should be the absolute least of her concerns.

could she admit it now, though? speak aloud these things she refused to acknowledge for so long because it feels like this is the only time she ever can? ji-yeong was right, after all. it doesn’t matter what we tell each other. no one can really be embarrassed anymore. if there ever was a time to talk about it, it would be now.  

her silence is hard, immovable. like it’s an answer of its own.

ji-yeong gives a low whistle from behind her, shuffling in such a way that sae-byeok imagines her leaning forward, chin on palm and wearing that vaguely amused expression she sometimes wears. “you walk around looking like that and really expect people not to know?” she mumbles under her breath, more to herself than anything.

and sae-byeok ... she wanted to know what ji-yeong meant by that, and why she asked in the first place, but time was running out and there were too many other things to talk about, to find out about the other girl, all while the certainty of death hung overhead, trying and failing to drive a wedge between them. it’s a moment sae-byeok returns to more often than she should, thinking about a dead girl and what she wanted from her, why ji-yeong ended up  ... doing what she did.

the plate clatters loudly onto the drying rack.

a glass this time, colliding with another so roughly sae-byeok should probably check for damage.

if she didn’t, then why would she���?

“finish your dinner. we can talk about this later.” her tone is clipped, and not convincing. cheol will remember she said the same thing about this new, fully-furnished apartment. we can talk about this later. said it about the suitcases of money in the closet, and the whereabouts of their mother and father too. and if cheol has noticed the pattern, then he doesn’t make it known, returning to his meal and only casting the occasional worried glance at his sister’s back, desperate for some way to reach her.

The air was pleasant, and Robin almost imagined herself in the middle of a drama on the TV. Maybe she would open her eyes and find that Sae-byeok was merely going through some sort of character arc, and this little food date would aid in getting her to open up. A happy ending would lay in wait, just episodes away. A breath, a smile.

Real life wasn't like TV. Robin didn't like watching it all that much for that reason. Her life was more unbelievable, yet it felt safer... Allowing the world of supernatural consume her days rather than the life of a young adult trying to heal in a country, a city, that wasn't her home.

It had to be worth it. It had to be worth it to help her friend, to forge this connection like a flower that needed a little TLC to bloom.

"Hey." She breaks the silence, walking alongside the skinny girl, jacket still slung over her shoulder. She hadn't needed it after all.

- the two of you would huddle close and take a picture - saebyeok was stunning as she was drawn out by the sunlight

i find it so interesting that they would be the final two because ruggie is a predator and azul, though also strong in his own right, acts like more of a prey animal with his self-preservation instincts. he’s intimidating and scary, but only because he needs to veil his weaknesses, otherwise the others will eat him alive in there.

i wonder who would be sae-byeok to complete their triangle for the feast!!!! my heart says jamil, but then the idea of it being riddle is also fun to imagine. riddle and ruggie becoming something of friends throughout the games and learning more about the other’s life outside of this horrible place. ruggie learns riddle doesn’t really have much to return to, but he’s still so determined. maybe because no matter what he must face outside, it’s better than the hellish horrors in here. i just know azul would go crazy if riddle (who he sees as a rival in canon) manages to survive this far into the games despite not being very athletically inclined. ooooo he’s seething.

At first Sangwoo will try his best to hide the fact that he is in debt. He feels shame over it, how he lost his composture and ended in this type of situation.

Sangwoo its someone who fakes and hides his feelings a lot. He alwyas as felt like he needed to be the best for his mother to get a better life. Later on you came into the picture and the pressure got worse.

However, you are his wife and can tell something is off about him. As soon as he admits what is happening you will be reasuring him that everything will be fine, and that both of you will find a way out.

During games we can see different routes:

He has two things in mind, win and protect you. He tried to stop from coming with him but you insisted.

"Till deat do us apart, remember?"

You are the only one who he truly cares about besides himself. He will tell you to be close to him all the time and to not trust others, not even Gi-hun. He also tells you to follow him in every game, whatever choise he makes you must follow it.

Will talk to you away from the rest and tell you to rely on him. And to not question him.

During the first night when everything went to chaos he has you at his side through all of it.

If you two go with someone else at the marbles game and end winning Sangwoo is keeping himself close to you and thanking heavens he decided not to team up with you, even if you were a bit ofended by it at the start.

It ends with both of you hugging each other after it. Sangwoo does not want to be seen as "soft" or "weak" so he will take you to the bathroom where he will let you cry in his arms and even him will cry a bit, the idea of losing you and the fact that it was a close call was too much.

If you two went together then Sangwoo will insist you are the one who must survive and get out, making you promise him to take care of his mother and telling you to live a better life. He will call you names and say things like he never loved you to make you angry at him so you will decide to let him die in there.

Bet you wont believe him and will pull him down for a kiss. You would bait him into thinking that he lost but at the end he sees with desesperation how the guard is going to take you instead of him.

He will be heartbroken after it but wont consider suicide since he promised you to live for both and not for himself. He gets more distant and cold toward others for the rest of the games.

With the game of the glass bridge he will try his best to protect you. Does not mind a bit once he pushes down that player to save you. If he needs to calm you down after it he will do it.

For the final night pre final game he will still go and kill Sae-byeok only feeling bad about it because she was close to you in the games. If the game master insist other has to die then it will be a fight till death with Gi-hun.

If he wins and both of you have to fight against each other in the last game, Sangwoo will still sacriface himself for you, even if he is the one with better chances of winning.

If it comes down to Gi-hun and you its going to be a serious fight. Gi-hun knows you and likes you but he cant help but see Sangwoo on yourself and how he acted in the games. He also wants to see his daugther again.

It had been 6 days since you had last heard of Sae, and you were definitely worried.

The last time she reached out to you was to let you know that she was safe, that she was coming home soon and that she loved you a lot. You were hoping that it was true, no texts, no calls, nothing for six days.

She was glad you worked in an emergency room, otherwise she would’ve had been taken into the hospital for stiches, “It’s a deep cut but it’s not that deep, you should be glad it didn’t puncture your stomach,” your tone was blank and emotionless, and she could tell that you were really upset.

“There’s a suitcase on the floor, it’s filled with money that I won in a game,”

You looked at her with a confused expression on your face, “Pardon me, what?”

“There was this man, he handed me a card to play a game with, I called and they took me to some strange island, but the rest of the players didn’t see because they were asleep, but that’s beside the point,” you were still confused as you did the last stich, “We had to play kids games to win the money, but if you got eliminated you died, only one person could win,”
