Lazy Saturday afternoon with the pony.
I bought the new BoT berry saddle pad during their 20% off labor day sale. I love that they offer an XL pad, which fits perfectly under my 19" saddle.
Sydney schooled really well. It was a brisk 60 degrees with a breeze, so I took advantage of being able to have a longer than 30 min schooling ride for the first time in a very long time. She started out really stiff to the left, but after some really amazing canter she was much more supple. I also worked some on my sitting trot. Sitting trot is easy. Good sitting trot is quite hard and I find that I tire quite quickly.
Afterwards Sydney dosed/drooled on my tack while I gave it a much needed cleaning. I've been riding outside a lot lately so it was all pretty grimy.

Ranch Post #4
After watching not one, not two, but three people purchase a horse over the past two months, one buy a horse at our barn from a previous owner, and three others actively search for their dream horse, I fell into the well.
Yesterday I came to our ranch owner with four papers of my budget, my preferences, my notes, and my questions about purchasing my own horse. She gave me the 'ok' with such excitement!
Of course like every other girl, I've wanted my own horse since I was little. One I could go see at any time, go riding out with whenever. All the bells and whistles. And now I'm looking.
It feels surreal, in a way. But I'm starting this journey a little at a time. Yesterday at my work at the antique mall, I found a great black lead rope for $10, got that, and a small leather hand lead for $4. I've marked on my calendars all of the tack sales and consignment dates, and I'm going to those to pick up more things. Pad. Hope for clip on reins. Of course books. The good stuff.
I'm going to wait to get the horse to find a headstall, bit, and saddle. That just seems a bit wise to me.
I really want a gelding. I love mares and my favorite horse at the barn, Shylo, will always have a huge space in my heart. But geldings just have an aura I love. Not too much fuss. No menstrual cycles. I won't get breeding juice and piss on me if I go to pick a gelding's back feet (yes. This happened to me. In front of kids. I was mortified.)
So far I have a little list of some guys I'm looking at. But nothing set. I think I'd like a few extra thousand dollars in the bank before committing.
Well. Anyhow. I'll update when I can.

Ultimate Guide to Western Horse Saddles for Sale
Choosing the Perfect Fit
If you're in the market for Western horse saddles, you've come to the right place. Choosing the right saddle is crucial for both rider comfort and horse performance. This comprehensive guide will walk you through everything you need to know about selecting the perfect Western horse saddle, from understanding different types to tips on buying a used one.
What Are Western Horse Saddles?
Western horse saddles, distinguished by their deep seats and sturdy build, are specifically designed for the rigors of Western riding disciplines like roping, reining, and trail riding. Unlike English saddles, Western saddles provide greater security and comfort for long hours in the saddle.
Types of Western Horse Saddles
Trail Saddles: Ideal for long rides, trail saddles offer maximum comfort for both rider and horse. They feature padded seats and lightweight designs.
Roping Saddles: Built to withstand the demands of roping cattle, these saddles are heavy-duty and reinforced for strength.
Reining Saddles: Designed for reining competitions, these saddles allow for close contact with the horse, offering greater control and maneuverability.
Barrel Racing Saddles: Lightweight and compact, barrel racing saddles provide the rider with the freedom to move and shift weight quickly.
Show Saddles: Highly decorated with intricate tooling and silver accents, show saddles are used in Western pleasure and equitation events.
Key Features to Look For in a Horse Saddle
When browsing Western horse saddles for sale, consider the following features to ensure you select the best saddle for your needs:
Fit: The saddle should fit both the horse and the rider. A proper fit ensures comfort and prevents injuries.
Tree: The tree is the foundation of the saddle. Look for a sturdy, well-constructed tree made from wood or synthetic materials.
Seat Size: The seat size should correspond to the rider's size. A saddle that is too large or small can cause discomfort and affect riding performance.
Weight: Consider the weight of the saddle, especially if you plan on long rides or need to lift the saddle frequently.
Material: Quality leather saddles are durable and provide a classic look. Synthetic materials can be lighter and easier to care for.
Comfort: Look for padded seats, ergonomic designs, and additional features that enhance comfort for both rider and horse.
Tips for Buying Used Horse Saddles
Buying a used Western saddle can be a great way to save money without compromising on quality. Here are some tips to help you make a smart purchase:
Inspect the Saddle: Carefully check for any signs of wear and tear, including cracks, loose stitching, and damage to the tree.
Check Fit: Ensure the saddle fits your horse correctly. It's essential to test the saddle on your horse before making a final decision.
Research the Brand: Some brands are known for their durability and quality. Research reputable brands and read reviews to find a reliable used saddle.
Ask for History: Inquire about the saddle's history, including how often it was used and for what purposes.
Negotiate Price: Don't be afraid to negotiate the price. Sellers often expect some haggling, especially if the saddle shows signs of wear.

Wide Collection Of Western Saddle Pads For Fun Loving Equestrians
A rectangular piece of clothing called a saddle blanket or saddle pad has its history. In today's time, riders use saddle pads upon the saddle. But when we look into the history of horses and their types of equipment, only saddle blankets were worn by the horses on their back. In this joyous game of riding, sweating is also a big problem for the equine and rider. Saddle blankets are slightly flat. But saddle pads are a bit stuffed. These both have one task, to absorb the sweat and fluids. Horses are muscular animals, but their back requires safety from various factors. Horse riding or other activities can cause injuries in the back of the equine. Back sores from sweat can cause an infection that can lead to big problems. The sweaty back can also affect the horse's and rider's performance. So saddle pads work like a guard for the equine's skin. Riding between a vast crowd can be challenging for the horse and the rider in many ways.
Saddle pads also prevent sweat. Suppose it is used between the horse's back and the saddle. It absorbs heat and effort and helps the horse to play appropriately in his game. 3/4 -inch is considered a valid, suitable thickness for saddle pads. But this also varies from rider to rider. While choosing a saddle pad, always look for a breathable and moisture absorption level. One is synthetic, and the other is natural. Cotton has moisture-absorbing qualities, while synthetic fabrics do not have that capability. Synthetic fibers can help in heat-trapping. Equestrian Western saddles for horses prices differ according to their material and other elements. Always choose your saddle pads according to the size of your equine. Many good brands are offering good quality saddle pads. Western saddle pads can be designed and made with one or a mixture of multiple materials.
Let's talk about the materials of Saddle Pads for your Equine:
Be careful while choosing the material of the pad. Indirectly your game depends on that because saddle pads help comfort the horse and protect his back. The primary material in western saddle pads is felt. It is considered a famous and comforting material for saddle pads. This compressed wool can be organic or made out of synthetic material. It helps absorb the moisture from sweating during the game or other equine activities.
Neoprene Material: Like rubber, neoprene doesn't allow oil, water and sweat. It is synthetic. The square pattern is carved at the bottom of these western saddle pads. So it can be more breathable for the horse's skin. It doesn't slip from the skin and is easy to take care of.
A saddle Pad Made of Wool: Wool is a natural material, and when it comes to horse saddle pads, wool is considered favorable. Wool has sweat-absorbing qualities, which increase its demand in the western saddle pad market. Like a cushion, it is comfortable for both the equine and the rider. The chemical of sweat and other dust and dirt particles can fade wool's color. Instructions should be followed properly to take care of this stuff.
Impact Gel Material in Western Horse Saddle Pads: The short description for this material is that the outer layer is made of a material the same as felt, but in the inner layer, gel-like material is filled. It is most preferred among riders. Its qualities consist of flexibility and comfort and protect the equine from injuries on the back. Easy care and can fight against bad heat are some excellent qualities of impact gel saddle pads. Memory foam is another beneficial material for equine saddle pads. It doesn't slip, and the care is like a cakewalk.
Care for Your Western Saddle Pads: Everything requires care, whether it is a saddle pad or any other material. Saddle pad care can be complex and challenging because they are made of hard material. And because of the absorption of sweat-like fluids, they can become smelly and black. The caretaker should take care of the saddle pads so they can be used for a long time. There's a variety of Western saddle pads for sale at our extensive collection having different styles and other features. In this time of sound technology and science, there is everything for everyone. Saddle pads can be designed according to the physique of your horse. Never think that only saddle pads can be used instead of saddles. If something is wrong with your saddle, choose the right one and try different varieties of saddles. Always choose the western saddle pads for your horse according to the factors and challenges you will face on the ground. Never choose English saddle pads if your saddle is western. It can create discomfort for your horse, and the rider can also face the consequences of this. Like human beings, horses also have different body structures. The difference may not look massive, but there are different kinds of horses, backs and bodies. Keep some points in mind while choosing the western saddle pads for your horse. Even when varieties of saddle pads are available in the market, the purpose is identical for all: to make the equine feel comfortable and the rider feels as well.

I did a thing that I’m so excited about. I’ve been wanting to do saddle pads with my monogram on them for a bit, but never got around to them. Then I got engaged and started to contemplate how weird would it be to get the pads done before I was even married… Well, it didn’t happen before the wedding, but it finally happened now. Saddle fitter wants us in a fluffy half pad, and a lot of my saddle pads are too short. Ogilvy fits really well, so ordering a couple during the July 4th sale was the perfect opportunity.
I found a woman local to me that did the embroidery, let’s just say I’m going to use her for all of my embroidery from now on. She was super fast and matched the colors of the Ogilvy pads perfectly.
I am in love with how they turned out.
(Sydney’s 4 year old open front and fetlock boots are finally giving up the ghost, so I broke out a set I’ve had waiting in the wings for when they were needed this weekend as well.)
I won a gift certificate at that last show where I was reserve champion to a tack shop that carries Ogilvy, so of course I’m already planning out my next one. 😂
