Ryley Mf Robinson genuinely makes me ill

Theres like jack shit we know definitively abt him, but the little bits of personality from his equip animations and the logs of the crew from the Aurora are fucking sick as hell

I genuinely can't remember if he's part of the repair crew, or engineering, etc cuz I havent played in a bit, but the fact he fucking zaps himself with the repair tool is insane. Like u don't just do that shit unless u already know how to handle one

Also I think him being an engineer/repair staff matches up with my playstyle of fucking around, finding out, and having to repair my goddamn ship and base every tuesday

The fact that he goes to an alian world and SURVIVES when everyone else had succumbed to the sickness is fucking cool as hell. And that he was only able to by listening to the logs and messages from the people before is also like. GODDAMN that's sad as shit. That the only people who have been in ur situation are fucking DEAD is horrifying

Also I've got a lot of hcs for this guy based on the fact that I think he's an engineer. Idk im thinking that he originally had big dreams in engineering different sick as hell ships, before he was put on as repair staff

vague AU idea floating around in my brain of like a swap AU type of thing with ryley and bart. ryley is one of the crew aboard the degasi, probably not nonessential systems maintenance since i doubt they would have that with a crew that small maybe an engineer or something idk, and he crash lands with paul and marguerit and survives with them for a while. 10 years later bart (now head of torgal corp) ends up on the aurora as part of the auxiliary mission, the company is still interested to know what happened to their former head who disappeared, and bart wants to know what happened to his father, probably theres some cover story about why hes there since the auxiliary mission was kinda secret-ish, maybe something about a deal with alterra, and he ends up being the one on lifepod 5 and surviving. i feel like the biggest changes would be to the degasi story, since bart was the one who first got their food set up on the island and was the one to figure out the thing with the stalker teeth and was the one to figure out the disease. (and also marg claimed that she was bringing the leviathan back for him to study, but tbh i feel like she just wanted to kill it) with bart not there i feel like would probably change the course of their story a lot, or they would have to find other ways for those things to happen anyways. idk i just think its kinda interesting to think about.

7: Where did the title come from?: a vary sappy thought at probably 3 am regarding Al-an's comment about dimming stars translating to grief and mourning. Ideally imagined as faded saturation...thus resersal would be to add colour. (I am a simple human, it make sense when sleepy = i happy) a splash across a pale sky = healing grief.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Yes, but it was really sad, and frankly depressing.

after saving Ryley Alterra finds out about Al-an's existence and finally tracks them down years later using the unknowingly bugged hermit, and comes for Al-an, unfortunatly they only find and abduct Robin as the other two were off world, unfortunately at that time she was with twins, but as the two are not able to save her before Alterra scientist get their hands on her and their would be precursor/human children...

It will would have been a harsh parallel to the Emperor leviathan's offspring's fate.

Obviously It would be dark and pretty dreary one my sister demanded be scrapped, especially since Al-an goes bonkers and strips the memory of it from her along with 90% of their relationship... lol xD

An idea that's been plaguing my thoughts for the past week or so, lfd2/subnautica crossover.

Right now I really only have thoughts about it concerning Nick and Ellis because I'm deranged. These two but they're members of the Aurora crew, and what if instead of Ryley on lifepod 5 it's these two absolute doofuses, alone on an alien planet, Nick is split on how he should feel. But yeah they get to exist in the crater for a little bit and they're both equally terrified of the life there until Ellis gets his grubby little hands on a scanner and a knife, then he's becoming everything's problem.

I have like, rantings and ramblings on so many details for this bullshit, but I'll save that for if anyone wants to hear it, because this post is getting wordy as it is.

Y'know what I haven't talked about or shared for a while? Mers. Not merfolk, as they still have legs and it's not just a tail, so mers. Started as a Subnautica thing but like, it's sort of shifted into an entire original world. Which I have no regrets about because I live for world-building.

Tempted to go on a ramble about them as a species and their world, and I might still do that. But I was reminded of it earlier today because of an animation project. Might make a few AUs with like, DC or something. Might just ramble about the world and the alien species and such. And the mer species and all that.

Bill MacKay — Locust Land (Drag City)

It can be hard to keep up with all of Chicago guitarist Bill MacKay’s musical comings and goings. It’s important to note, though, that he’s been involved in a couple of my most beloved records of recent years: Ryley Walker’s Course In Fable (2021), which featured MacKay on electric guitar, and BCMC’s Foreign Smokes (2023), his atmospheric instrumental duo with Cooper Crain. Needless to say, the release of new MacKay music is worth heeding to those in the know.

Locust Land is an understated, intermittently lovely series of musical miniatures that sets modest parameters and then pushes playfully against them. The opening two songs offer an overview of the landscape at play. “Phantasmic Fairy” is an eerie instrumental tiptoe through the wardrobe of the imagination, tracing out icy figures on organ and electric guitar that hang suspended precariously. The chill immediately thaws on “Keeping In Time,” a glowing folk tune with both acoustic guitar and the background growl of an overdriven electric, introducing MacKay’s voice for the first time on the record (it crops up a couple more times on “Half of You” and “When I Was Here”). His vocal timbre is at times reminiscent of the yearning purity of James Taylor, but also the rough-hewn, off-the-cuff feel of labelmate Jim O’Rourke.

“Glow Drift” is the kind of upbeat instrumental you can imagine soundtracking a TV series about off-road driving, the guitar lines smartly harking back to the preceding song’s vocal melody. “Half of You” and “Oh Pearl” comprise the most loosely defined stretch on the album, and for a nine-song, half-hour record, this loss of focus is noticeable. “Half of You” has a hazy, Sunday-afternoon charm, but the on-the-nose lyrics feel like they could have used another pass, and while “Oh Pearl” introduces a couple of nice chord changes, it meanders a little and peters out towards the end.

“Radiator” is grounded by the pulse of Sam Wagster’s bass, against which two electric guitar lines and organ weave a glowing lattice, harking back to “Glow Drift”’s radiant palette. Then it feels like the album reaches its apex with “When I Was Here,” all of the record’s musical ideas coalescing into a single anthemic moment. “Neil’s Field” is a short, atmospheric vignette woven from female vocals and organ, before the closing title track’s theme resounds on piano, organ and multiple guitars.

Having listened to Locust Land a dozen times, I still don’t have a clear sense of what Locust Land is. But I do know it’s a beautiful place to visit, and I’m willing to trust MacKay as my tour guide for whatever musical ramble he has planned next.

I headcanon that Ryley had a pretty high pain tolerance before the crash, but after living on 4546B for a decent chunk of time he can ignore pretty much any pain.

Since he zaps himself with the repair gun like its nothing, and im assuming its atleast a small electric shock, he can deal with sudden sharp bursts of pain easily already.

He also sticks his hand in the repulsion gun, getting atleast (insert condition that is whiplash but for muscles in general. Could google it but erm that didnt go well) and heavy bruising, only to just kinda keep walking like nothing happened?? Obv thats for gameplay reasons but im rolling with it.

Both of these things point to a high pain tolerance already. Pus being on the planet so long, with different adrenaline highs and crashes, it would become easy to ignore "minor" aches and pains or even small cuts and bruising because hes had worse and FELT worse.

And as the kharaa takes hold im thinking that it causes a dull pain on top of the consequences of straining your body constantly, and numbs some of his extremeties so he can only feel the pulsing pain from the kharaa and not if he is cut or bitten.

Building off the numbness that replaces feeling with pain, i bet that would be super freaky for him to experience when we see him use his extremeties VERY frequently to sense things or pry open things. So lack of feeling and coordination from the numbness would be especially catastrophic for him

ALSO kinda seperate but building off the previous statements, i think Ryley has hypermobility!

Im going purely based on my personal experience and the fact that in his stretching animation, after he wakes up, his elbows go WELL past the point of regular flexibility. (probably not what the animators were intending but ya boy does not get any other form of hypermobile representation so im latching onto this)

BUT BCLY im thinking that Ryley has hypermobility, specifically caused by the connective tissue disorder Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (H-EDS). Since H-EDS causes pain from all those tissues not working right, im thinking this is why Ryley has a decent pain tolerance to start, and then as he does impulsive things like testing machinery on himself, he slowly builds a pretty high pain! And then the rest of my theorizing before this happens!! :D

Also yeah im just projecting my condition on my fav guy. It is my favroite hobby to blast them with illness beams and justify it afterwords.

Introduction

So I haven't touched Tumblr properly in ages, but thought it might be the perfect place for this.

I've recently found myself interested in Werewolves and similar and as a way of coping with the emotions of some of this Werewolf stuff I've decided I am going to make a little world of my own

It's just about my Werecat Tay and Werewolf Ryley. They are gay, they're in the same pack and I basically already built a lot of lore around them in private

Usually I let people review this but I think perhaps my weird awkward style is a bit more fun, I hope my ADHD overload doesn't bother anyone, but that means this stuff can get long

I'll just slowly start posting stuff here and there. I've already got art for Tay and today started working on a design for Ryley

It's supposed to be in an imaginary German city, since I am German and feel it's just fitting to write about a country I live in. So that means Ryley's design is going to be based on Eurasian Wolves because that's what we have here.

Hope we can have fun, it's more of a comfort thing so don't expect things going too dark although I guess my notes already mention eating of humans and starving. But the main focus is fun between the two gay dorks and also maybe sometimes the jokes can get a little 18+, but since Tumblr kinda tight on nsfw I'll try to keep it down

Moon Bros. - The Wheel

Moon Bros., freshly relocated to the Front Range of Colorado, returns with an absolutely wonderful five-song mini-LP of lightly fried folk rambles. Fred Schneider recorded The Wheel mostly on his own, but he expertly conjures up a laid-back scene of friends sitting around a cozy living room playing together — sweetly groaning pedal steel, chiming 12-string, stoned harmonica, intimate vocals. (It's not entirely a solo affair: the great Josephine Foster shows up to sing along on one song.) The result is kind of like a heretofore unimagined collab between Robbie Basho and Michael Hurley. Vivid visions of the country, indeed.

I'm also going to recommend that you check out a previous Moon Bros. release, Le Jaz Mystique, released last year on Ryley Walker's Husky Pants label, wherein Schneider tackles Fats Waller in delightfully twisted/tangled fashion. So nice it must be illegal.

Day 3.

I made sure to get enough batteries for my Seaglide today, and tried heading out to the rendevouz point. Keen wasn't there. He and another crew mate have gone back into the sea. I found his log on the beach of a cove.

It wasn't completely fruitless, though. I did find another survivor, though he definitely wasn't on the Aurora. He says his name is Gordon, and he "needs to get back to Black Mesa."

Either this guy has been alone for FAR too long, or the effects of the Black Mesa incident are still being felt thousands of years later.

He is in an orange suit with an old... I think Roman symbol? Greek? I could never keep the two straight, but it's the Lambda, the same symbol Gordon wore.

If this guy is legit (and I have reason to think he is), then I have no clue what to do from here. Do I help him get back in time, or keep focusing on my own mission? How did he even end up here? Earth doesn't exist anymore, and even if it did, it's coordinates would be off by light years from when this guy lived.

We're staying on the island tonight. Seems safer than going back underwater. Gordon also doesn't have any scuba gear, and that suit is too heavy. Hed sink right to the sea floor.

I have a lot to think about.
