Maren Morris Takes a Stand Against Body Shamers on Social Media— " I Refuse to Ever, EVER Be Ashamed of the Body God Gave Me"

In a time when women are using their voices to stand up for themselves, Maren Morris is speaking out against body shamers who troll her on Instagram. The 28-year-old singer, who is riding high on the mega success of her current hit "The Middle" with Zedd and Grey, is known for speaking out against people who try and bully her on social media. She's taking a stand once again, not letting social media trolls get away with their behavior. Maren posted a beautiful photo of herself on her own Instagram page, wearing a body suit and shorts. She added a bit of humor to the photo by pointing out her dogs butt photobombing her in the photo. So what's the problem you ask?  That's what we thought. But then some folks, women included, chose to body shame the star and criticize her lack of clothing.   While most people would ignore such negative comments, Maren chose to use the moment to stand up for herself and others who are dealing with negative comments and bullying on social media. And she nailed it. "Some turds on my last picture had the cowardly gall to suggest that I deserved creepy sexual advances from men for my clothing, so I ought to cover up, & I thought it was pretty horrifying," Maren wrote in her post. "I realize I chose this career and I chose to put a picture on this platform, but choosing to illicit sex acts from wearing a bodysuit? No. That is what’s wrong with it all. I refuse to ever, EVER be ashamed of the body God gave me. I’m proud to be Irish, Native American, English... proud of my cellulite and proud of my strong back + arms. I worked my ass off on my body the last few months, and I’m proud to show that work." She went on to talk about beings positive role model.  "All day little girls + boys are measuring themselves against societal shame & fake photoshopped bodies on Instagram. So what I guess I’m saying is, I didn’t choose to be a role model for body-shaming, judgmental nobodies; I LOVE being a role model for kids and anyone who’s just trying to figure out how to love themselves every day. Screw the haters and eat your damn cheeseburger. 🍔 #StrongNotSkinny." That's why Maren Morris is will continued to be role model for women that we can all be proud of. Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd Are Engaged!

Maren Morris is officially engaged to boyfriend Ryan Hurd! That’s right. You Hurd us. The 27-year-old country singer announced the exciting news yesterday on Instagram, with a photo of her hand on the 32-year-old Hurd’s knee, engagement ring flashing as the focal point, along with a simple declaration: “Yes.” The corona she is holding in the photo is also a loving nod to the lyrics in “Love in a Bar,” Hurd’s breakthrough original country song.

The couple hit their one-year anniversary back in December of 2016, and as the two try to make their own waves in the country music industry, Hurd says he “can’t imagine going through life with anyone else.” 

They’ve been on the journey together for quite some time. Before they began dating, the Grammy Award winner and the singer-songwriter Hurd were friends for years. As Morris told People Magazine, “we were both at different publishing companies, and our publishers’ job is to fill our calendars up, so they just randomly put us together on a write one day.”

There was an obvious connection between the two, and when they churned out “Last Turn Home” during a writing session (which Tim McGraw recorded the very next day), the seeds of a future romance were planted. Morris felt that “there was always this writing chemistry in the room... we had such a foundation built off writing so many songs over the years that we were like ‘Why are we avoiding this’”?

It’s been an awesome month for the “My Church Singer.” To kick it off, she received a call from music icon Elton John who sang her praises and she’s currently on tour with fellow country sensation Sam Hunt. Morris also recently collaborated on a song with Thomas Rhett that hit No. 1 on both the Billboard Country Airplay chart and the Mediabase charts in a mere 15 weeks. 

Morris continues on Hunt’s 15 In A 30 Tour through the summer and kicks off the extension of her 2017 Hero Tour in October.
