Reading TSaTS was AMAZING for me. I fell in love with the writing style, and the plot was just.. *mwah* zeff's kiss. For anyone who hasnt read The Sun and The Sea by @stygianheart on AO3.. GO READ IT!!!!

Although if I'm honest the 1 part that I really like the most was chapter 5 where we got to learn more about Ryan. (as you can see, i am unwell about him) AndHelmeppo as a dynamic. RYMEPPO YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Chapter 11 and 12 was DEVASTATING!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant remember how many times i cried but it was a lot.........

Anyway! *claps hands together melodramatically*

The internal conflict Kel (stygian!) portrays in Koby is so painfully accurate, and I find each character to be so well written- but even deeper and more alluring!

Koby is.. HOPELESS. But that's fine, we love him. Either way, I was on the edge of my seat at the end of each chapter. Emotions are expertly woven between words, and the pure force of it had me at the first chapter. Unlike some KobyLu fic's, Kel didn't portray Koby as a damsel in distress, an UWU boy (im sorry) or a big StRoNg Chad- they found his actual character, a kindhearted, selfless boy who feels pain and anger and who sheds tears for those who'd been wronged.

I cant even describe how much i love TSaTS.... sjsjsjsjsjsjs

RYAN BRYAN. MY #1 BOY.

I cant stress how MUCH I love him. He has a character that is so compelling and utterly stunning. He's a broken man, and noone can deny that. But he found beauty amidst pain- something im a sucker for.... Ryan feels like a canon character, ISTG!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HIM!!

Anyway, TSaTS is better than most NOVELS ive read. Its a work of art thats totally underrated. Like, its better than some arcs in One Piece by a landslide.

call me biased since im a friend of Kel's, but KEL IS MY IDOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont be shy about talking to them, their awesome and love listening to people talk. They have a Discord server (which I am in as PROUD RYAN SIMP) so check that out, maybe!

Working Hard or Hardly Working?

Well well well look’s like I’ve been missing in action for an entire month..  truthfully I have been incredibly busy! Peace Corps is not what I expected it to be. I thought I would have a lot of free time. I was going to do yoga every morning, spend my evenings learning Quechua and water coloring.  Maybe start a Youtube channel, or start studying for the Professional Engineering exam.  But I’m busy… and I think waking up early is not for me and will never be for me.

The sun sets a little too early for my taste, but it’s always beautiful.

Instead!! Every week I have meetings with professors, the Puesto de Salud, the JASS.  Today I woke up at 7 am to present myself to all of the professors at the main school. Usually my host mom Cande leaves me a fried egg or fried cheese and potatoes, oatmeal, or her newest invention, cheese with a bit of ketchup on a tortilla. - great news, I found flour tortillas at the mercado only half an hour away. But today I woke up too early to eat breakfast - back to my American habits. The professors were receptive to my presentation and eager to work together. I’ve already worked with one teacher in this school, and it’s a challenge. The high schoolers are constantly on their cell phones. When they aren’t, they’re throwing paper snowballs or begging to go to the bathroom (and never come back). There’s a smaller elementary school a 10 minute bus ride away, with two classrooms of 10 students. Here I have done hand washing sessions already. Because of the class size and age,  it’s much easier to work at this school. The challenge is there’s no internet or cell service in that area.

UPDATE from my last post, we chlorinated the water, but had some issues. The water source is a manantial (spring) and the water flow and levels vary. So even if you apply a constant stream of chlorine, the concentration in the reservoir will change. In addition, my chlorine system is just a basic tank that you adjust the knob to the amount of chlorine you want. But because the level of the chlorine solution obviously drops as it enters the reservoir, the pressure changes and the chlorine drip slows down over time. In conclusion… it’s DIFFICULT to apply the right chlorine dose to the drinking water. The community hates chlorine because it leaves white stains on their pots (that’s actually calcium and natural minerals not chlorine), and they aren’t used to the taste. So I am trying to put 0.5 mg/L of chlorine in the water, but when it suddenly goes up to 3 mg/L, everyone freaks out. I need to program a day to observe the system the entire day and at least see how much the flow from the spring truly varies. I have been so busy the last week that I haven’t even had time to do this yet.

So what have I really been doing? Water system inspections, reservoir disinfections, coordinating with the doctors, teaching hand washing, playing games with children, playing soccer, meeting the new German volunteers, preparing for my bosses to come visit, going on walks with my new friends, making salads for my family. And on Friday I had a tomato fight! The municipality has its own vivero (plant nursery). I went to help my socia propagate some plants. We were also picking baby tomatoes and pulling out the plant, and a few misplaced tomatoes resulted in the five of us covered in dirt and tomato seeds. Next up is paint balling.

One of my host dogs, Theo has a cold and he coughs all night. Cande gives him pills. I am grateful that Elvis doesn’t get sick, that’s the one good thing about his antisocial behavior. Imagine the reverse, never talking to another human and therefore never being exposed to viruses. Since all the dogs hang out in the streets, the municipality dog, Lazzy, also has a cold. Her family has tied a lemon and a piece of onion around her neck so that she gets better.

“So, Ryan, who’re you into?”

The question was sudden and unprompted—random and sort of confusing. All Ryan had been doing was sitting on the couch and reading a book, when the stupid llama Helmeppo walked up, plopped himself down next to him, and just asked that question.

Ryan paused for a second, looking at Helmeppo in confusion.

Helmeppo repeated the question. “Who’re you into?”

“…why are you asking me this?”

Helmeppo shrugged. “It’s June, so it’s pride month. Just wondering where you fit into that.”

Normally, Ryan would snap at Helmeppo with some witty, smug, and arrogant insult. However, Helmeppo normally didn’t ask Ryan serious questions.

Ryan only knew the question was serious because Helmeppo wasn’t smirking.

He lowered his book, frowning a bit as he turned to stare at the floor. “…I don’t know.” He finally answered.

“Seriously?” Helmeppo raised a single brow. “So, you don’t know if you like guys or girls or people in between or—”

“I don’t know.” Ryan snapped, sending a glare to his friend. “Genuinely.”

“Okay, then what’s your type?”

“What part of ‘I don’t know’ don’t you understand, you brainless llama?!”

“I was just asking a question!!”

Ryan huffed, pulling out his cigarette box. “Look. I don’t know. I like who I like, and to be honest, I don’t want to put a label on it. I never had the time for a crush, but…” he glanced at Helmeppo, the gears in his brain turning ever so slowly. “I guess I do have a type? Someone tall. Smart and loyal. Brave, too, and caring.” He reached a hand over, picking up some of Helmeppo’s hair between his fingers and electing to ignore the fact the blond’s face was turning pink.

“W-what are you?!—”

“I like long hair too.” Ryan mused, rubbing the hair between his fingers before letting go and pulling his hand away. “And—”

“Don’t touch my hair!” Helmeppo snapped, scooting away from Ryan ever so slightly. “And didn’t you have a crush on Martial Geob the pirate? Even though he’s, like, nine years older than you? He has long hair.”

Ryan scowled. “Don’t cut me off, asshole!” Helmeppo raised his hands in a silent apology as Ryan lit a cigarette. “…I guess they gotta be a bit older? Though not, like. Old older. Just…like a few years older than me. 1 to 5 years, though I’ve gotta have met them as an adult. But I don’t really think gender matters to me.” He took a puff of his cigarette, watching the smoke tendrils float around.

“…Ryan, you’re a doctor, you should know smoking is bad—”

“Fuck off and let me finish my answer!” Ryan grunted in annoyance as Helmeppo smiled sheepishly in yet another silent apology. “Point is, I like who I like. Guy, girl, between and neither, I like whoever, as long as they fit my sort of type. And I don’t like labels, so…I’m unlabeled, I guess.” His eyes flicked over to Helmeppo as silence began to fill the air between them. He was probably going to regret asking, but whatever. “And what about you?”

Helmeppo shrugged, leaning back on the couch. “Mostly girls. I’ve liked a guy here and then, but I prefer the ladies Though I like it when people are kinda rude and blunt and unafraid to snap back. Brave, in a way. But even though they’re rude, they’re selfless and kind. You get what I’m saying?”

Ryan tapped his cigarette against the tray beside him, watching the ashes fall. “Yeah. Guess I do.” He muttered. There was a pause, then— “so basically me?”

“What?! NO! SHUT UP, AS IF!!!!”

Ryan snorted, almost dropping his cigarette. “Please, your face is redder than my hair right now!”

“Oh shut up, you—you—you wretched hyena!”

“Awww, is someone scared that I found out about his little crush on me?”

“I DON’T LIKE YOU, SCREW OFF!” Helmeppo blubbered, immediately trying to elbow Ryan. The corpsman dodged it easily, still laughing at the flustered look on his friend's face. He took it in through the laughter, his smile growing by the second.

Guess I can live with that.
