MY THOUGHTS BEFORE THE ARTICLE
What happened? O.L., Olympique Lyonnais, Les Gones, was sold by Aulas to a Statian, under a business plan that assumed OL was going to make 2nd in Ligue1 in 2022-2023. That didn't happen. So, to be validated by the french goverment, the sale of key players plus the sale of OL Feminin plus OL Reign + other things. In my mind , selling Lukeba/Barcola/Cherki warrants a total reboot of the team. The idea that those three players each representing a sector, defense/forward/midfield are absent next season side their senior colleagues is massive. OL Feminin was already in process to be sold as Ms/MRs Kang has ambitions to be a woman owner with teams all over the place, ala City Group. The sale of OL Reign has to happen as Kang already owns the Washington Spirit in the NWSL. and the NWSL has a one owner one team policy. But, when the Women's world cup ends it may be a huge day for OL Masculin+Feminin. Textor says he doesn't like projects like PSG but from where I am sitting Crystal Palace isn't on the path to lifting trophies and while Botafogo may, Brasilian futebol tends to tests owners quality far more than people realize. OL masculin is not involved in anything but French football next season so… we will see the quality of his ownership… I said it before, I was content with Aulas. I am not a big ownerchanger. But I don't expect this owner to do much, USA owners usually don't.
OL: TEXTOR MUST FIND 130 MILLION EUROS BEFORE GOING BEFORE THE DNCG
INFO RMC SPORT - After appearing for the first time in a press conference in a speech still very vague on his project Wednesday, John Textor must now look at a decisive offseason for the future. At the time of its purchase of Olympique Lyonnais, the American investor had appeared before the DNCG with a business plan that was based on participation in the Champions League each year. He had also injected 86 million euros in cash to close the current season 22-23. Problem: OL will not play the C1 next season and will therefore be deprived of the financial windfall of several tens of millions of euros that goes with it.
The DNCG will soon schedule the passage of the various clubs as usual. It will take stock of the past season and especially will look forward to the next with the sole concern of ensuring that the clubs can go to the end of the next year from a financial point of view. This is where the challenge arises for John Textor. Clearly, he will have to find nearly 130 million euros to ensure a smooth passage before the financial gendarme of pro football.
For this, he is of course counting on the transfer window. Thanks to the sale in January of Malo Gusto to Chelsea, Lyon has already been able to bring in 30 million euros (more than five million euros in bonuses). Ryan Cherki, Castello Lukeba, Bradley Barcola seem to be the three most rated players on the market. On the other hand, it seems illusory to imagine that this is enough to achieve the objective.
Textor will have to find money elsewhere. The plan to sell the majority of the shares (52%) of the women's section falls within this framework. Expected gain: not far from 50 million euros after a legal accounting year that would show this sum in the "result" box, without there being a cash transaction. This operation would also save €13 million in OL Women's annual operating costs. In addition, the sale of OL Reign – imposed by the presence of two franchises of the same entity in the NWSL since the arrival on the board of Michele Kang – could bring in a few tens of millions of euros. A recent Wall Street Journal survey even estimates the price of a women's franchise at around $50 million.
The shareholders, Textor and its partners, could also find a solution to reinject new money themselves, as Franck Mc Court does every year at OM.
Another avenue envisaged according to our information, an IPO of the Eagle Foot structure (which brings together Lyon, Botafogo and Crystal Palace), potentially in the United States, to raise the necessary funds. At the time of the takeover of the Lyon club, OL's financial department had already raised this hypothesis with the DNCG, which did not seem to reassure it too much.
Indeed, in its sale valuation report that it had sent to Jean-Michel Aulas, the DNCG had clearly indicated that with this takeover project there was a significant risk of significant financing needs from the first year. It is no longer a risk, it is now a reality. And it worries because by buying OL and becoming majority (78.40% of the shares), John Textor must commit to launching a takeover bid to buy back the shares of small holders (12.13% of the shares). Takeover bid that has still not seen the light of day. This should be done next week. Textor could spend nearly 40 million euros to buy back these 12.13% of the public's shares. What still question the financial solidity of the new parent company of OL.
In the event of a lack of guarantee provided by John Textor, which seems likely today, the DNCG can take measures as specified in Article 11 of its regulations. This can lead to a control of the wage bill, a limitation of the number of transfers, a ban on recruitment or even demotion in the worst case. The DNCG wants and must absolutely ensure that no club that commits to a season finds itself in a position of default before the end of the season at the risk of distorting the entire competition. It is this risk that John Textor will have to remove very quickly.
Contacted by RMC Sport, the entourage of the new boss of OL specifies "that the DNCG has not issued an extraordinary request following the change in the capital structure." According to a source close to John Textor, who is still working in Lyon this weekend, the new OL boss is "aware of the importance of the French rules enacted by the DNCG and that he is, in advance, very happy to go there in the appointment set as every year, in June."

Announcing Winners WGA Awards 2019: ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?,’ ‘Eighth Grade’
In a pair of upsets, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” has won the Writers Guild of America’s adapted screenplay award for Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty and Bo Burnham has won the original screenplay award for “Eighth Grade.”
The major television trophies went to “The Americans,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Homeland” and “Barry” for the 71st Writers Guild Awards, held at dual ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., and the Edison Ballroom in New York City. It was the last major awards show before the Feb. 24 Academy Awards.
“Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” based on the memoir of the late Lee Israel, topped the screenplays for “Black Panther,” “If Beale Street Could Talk” “A Star Is Born”; and “BlacKkKlansman.” Though the script for the comedy-drama — the story of how Israel discovered her talent for forgery — has received an Oscar nomination, “Beale Street” and “BlacKkKlansman” were regarded as the front-runners. It appears that the tale of the travails and redemption of a professional writer clearly resonated with Hollywood writers.
“I want to thank Lee,” Holofcener said in her acceptance. “She’d probably be sitting in the room judging all of us. She though she was the smartest person in the room and she probably was.”
A stunned Burnham credited star Elsie Fisher for his winning the WGA award. Burnham won over Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma”; Adam McKay’s “Vice”; Bryan Woods, Scott Beck, and John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place”; and Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga, and Brian Currie’s “Green Book.” “Roma,” “Vice” and “Green Book” are all nominated for Academy Awards along with “The Favourite” and “First Reformed” while “Eight Grade” did not receive an Oscar nod.
“Eighth Grade,” which stars Fisher as an awkward teen dealing with the final week of eighth grade, also won the first-time Directors Guild of America Award for Burnham on Feb. 2. The film is also up for four Spirit Awards on Feb. 23.
“To the other nominees in the category — Have fun at the Oscars, losers!” Burnham joked in his acceptance. “No, I prepared nothing. This all belongs to Elsie Fisher who performed the script. No one would care about the script if she hadn’t done it.”
“Eighth Grade” is the first film to win the WGA Original Screenplay award without being nominated for an Academy since Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” in 2003.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won the comedy series award for Kate Fodor, Noah Gardenswartz, Jen Kirkman, Sheila Lawrence, Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman Palladino. Starring Rachel Brosnahan, “Mrs. Maisel” won the Emmy for best comedy series last year.
The final season of “The Americans” took the drama series award for Peter Ackerman, Hilary Bettis, Joshua Brand, Joel Fields, Sarah Nolen, Stephen Schiff, Justin Weinberger, Joe Weisberg and Tracey Scott Wilson.
Bill Hader and Alec Berg won the episodic comedy award for the opening segment of HBO’s “Barry,” “Chapter One: Make Your Mark” (“Barry”). They also won the new series award.
Stephanie Gillis won the animated award for the “Bart’s Not Dead” episode of “The Simpsons” — which was just renewed for its 31st and 32nd seasons by Fox — and showrunner Alex Gansa took the episodic drama award for the “Paean To The People” segment of “Homeland.” “Bathtubs Over Broadway” took the documentary award and “God of War” won the videogame trophy.
Hulu’s “Castle Rock” won the long-form original award and “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” took the adapted long-form trophy. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” won the comedy-variety series cagtegory.
Chelsea Peretti hosted the West Coast ceremonies while Roy Wood Jr. was the emcee in New York. “All the glitz and glamor of the Oscars without the pressure of public interest,” Peretti said in her intro.
Jordan Peele’s horror-comedy “Get Out” won the WGA Award for original screenplay and James Ivory’s coming-of-age drama “Call Me by Your Name” won for adapted screenplay last year. Both went on to win the Oscar.
The WGA awards are mixed indicator of Oscar sentiment. Six of the last 10 WGA winners have gone on to win Academy awards over the past five years. The awards are decided in voting by the 17,000 members of the WGA.
The West Coast ceremonies included plenty of political commentary. Adam McKay, on receiving the WGA’s Paul Selvin Award for “Vice,” asked for a “beat of silence” for the million people who died during the invasion of Iraq.
Jenji Kohan, recipient of the Paddy Chayefsky Award, was unable to attend due to having to shoot the final episode of “Orange Is the New Black.” She said in a taped message: “I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with enormously funny and kind people. I love the people I work with. Life is too short to work with a******s, by the way. That’s my Public Service Announcement.”

Jonathan David (Lille) = 60 M€ 3. Amine Gouiri (Rennes) = 35 M€ 4. Kephren Thuram (Nice) = 32 M€ 5. Lois Openda (Lens) = 30 M€ 6. Mohamed Camara (AS Monaco) = 28 M€ 7. Ryan Cherki (OL) = 27 M€ 8. Elye Wahi (Montpellier) = 25 M€ 9. Folarin Balogun (Stade de Reims) = 25 M€ 10. Mattéo Guendouzi (OM) = 25 M€ 11. Alban Lafont (FC Nantes) = 20 M€ 12. Enzo Le Fée (FC Lorient) = 15 M€ 13. Habib Diallo (RC Strasbourg) = 14 M€ 14. Farès Chaïbi (Toulouse FC) = 10 M€ 15. Franck Honorat (Brest) = 9 M€ 16. Mama Baldé (Troyes) = 8 M€ 17. Nabil Bentaleb (Angers) = 7 M€ 18. Mohammed Cham (Clermont) = 5 M€ 19.

HUFFPOLLSTER: Support For Harsher Immigration Policies Is Dropping, Survey Finds
The majority of Americans doesn’t want to see mass deportations. Most of President Trump’s opponents don’t understand why anyone approves of him. And the new GOP health care bill is off to a rocky start in gaining public support. This is HuffPollster for Friday, March 17, 2017.
AMERICANS BREAK WITH TRUMP ON IMMIGRATION - Tal Kopan and Jennifer Agiesta: “Americans disagree with President Donald Trump’s immigration priorities, according to a new CNN/ORC poll, with nearly two-thirds of Americans saying they’d like to see a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants rather than deportations. Trump has made tough border security and strict enforcement of US immigration laws a focal point of his campaign and presidency ― using some of his first executive orders to pave the way for far more deportations and detentions as well as ordering the construction of a Southern border wall. But a CNN/ORC poll released Friday finds that the public is actually moving in the opposite direction since Trump has won election. All told, 60% say the government’s top priority in dealing with illegal immigration should be developing a plan to allow those in the US illegally who have jobs to become legal residents….The number who prioritize legal status for those working in the US illegally is up from 51% who said so last fall. That shift comes across party lines, with Democrats and independents each 10 points more likely and Republicans 8 points more likely to choose a plan for legal status now compared with last fall.” [CNN]
MANY AMERICANS CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THEIR POLITICAL OPPONENTS ARE THINKING - HuffPollster: “Nearly half of Americans have already gotten into a political argument this year, a new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds….While 48 percent of Americans who personally approve of [President] Trump’s job performance say they understand why someone would disapprove of him, 43 percent say they can’t understand that, the poll finds. Trump’s opponents are even more vehement, with two-thirds of those who disapprove saying they can’t understand why anyone would approve of him, and just 23 percent that they can understand his supporters….People generally say their closest circle mostly shares their views of the president: 60 percent of those who approve of Trump’s job performance say most or all of their family and close friends also approve, while 76 percent of those who disapprove of the president say that opinion is shared by most or all of their friends and family.” [HuffPost]
MOST POLLS SHOW LITTLE SUPPORT FOR GOP HEALTH CARE PLAN - HuffPollster: “Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act have been met with a largely frosty reception by the public, according to the latest polling released this week. A Fox News poll published Wednesday night finds that just 34 percent of registered voters support the GOP’s health care plan, with 54 percent in opposition ― 36 percent oppose because it makes too many changes to the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and 11 percent because it makes too few. A SurveyMonkey poll shows similar reactions, with most Americans opposed to the Republican bill, 55 percent to 42 percent. The poll finds more intense opposition than support, with just 18 percent saying they strongly support the bill, while 38 percent say that they’re strongly opposed to it. The Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, meanwhile, puts opposition at 49 percent, with just 24 percent approving. A fourth poll from Morning Consult and Politico, released Wednesday, finds considerably more positive views of the bill, with 46 percent of voters approving and 35 percent disapproving. (Perhaps relevantly, theirs was also the only survey not to explicitly identify the bill as being a Republican proposal.)...Most of the surveys find significant splits across party lines.” [HuffPost, more from Fox, SurveyMonkey, PPP (D) and Morning Consult/Politico]
Many expect the plan to make things worse - Ashley Kirzinger, Liz Hamel, Elise Sugarman, Bryan Wu and Mollyann Brodie: “About half (48 percent) the public thinks the Republican replacement plan will decrease the number of people who have health insurance, while one in five (18 percent) say the number of insured people will increase and three in ten say it will stay about the same….When it comes to costs, about half (48 percent) expect the new plan to increase costs for people who buy insurance on their own, while about a quarter each say costs for these people will decrease (23 percent) or stay about the same (25 percent)....However, the public does not see a distinction in how the replacement plan would impact costs for these different groups of individuals, except when it comes to income. About four in ten Americans expect costs to increase for younger, older, urban-dwelling, and rural-dwelling people buying insurance on the individual market, while between about two in ten and one quarter expect them to decrease.” [Kaiser Family Foundation]
TRUMP’S TWEETS ARE RATED MUCH WORSE THAN TWEETS FROM HIS AIDES - HuffPollster: “Tweets from President Donald Trump’s account that are registered as being sent from from an Android ― generally a sign that the president wrote them himself ― get significantly worse scores from the public than the more innocuous tweets sent from an iPhone (presumably written by his staff)....The YouGov TweetIndex catalogues Trump’s tweets and has a representative public sample rate for each of them….The Huffington Post collected the data and separated it by whether the tweet came from Trump’s Android or an iPhone. When the tweet came from an iPhone, it scored an average of 8 points in YouGov’s TweetIndex….However, tweets that came from Trump’s Android received an average score of -21 points, 29 points worse than those presumably sent by his staff.” [HuffPost, TweetIndex]
VIEWS ON PAYING COLLEGE ATHLETES DIVIDE ALONG RACIAL LINES - Travis Waldron: “As the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments kick off this week, a majority of Americans who have any opinion on the subject are still opposed to paying college athletes, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll. The survey found that 37 percent of Americans strongly or somewhat oppose paying college athletes ― beyond their scholarships, that is ― while 30 percent strongly or somewhat support the idea. The remaining third aren’t sure. But dig a little deeper, and an interesting picture emerges: White and black Americans are sharply divided on the issue. A majority ― 52 percent ― of black respondents are strongly or somewhat in favor of paying college athletes, while only 15 percent strongly or somewhat oppose the idea. Among whites, however, the numbers flip: Just 27 percent support paying those athletes, while 43 percent oppose it.” [HuffPost]
MOST AGREE THAT TRUMP’S TIES TO RUSSIA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED - Dana Blanton: “Majorities of voters think Congress should investigate if Russia interfered with the election and allegations of coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia. That’s according to the latest Fox News Poll, taken amidst a new volley of allegations of ties between Trump and Russia, and wiretapping of Trump Tower. Sixty-six percent want a Congressional investigation into Russia’s attempts to influence the election, and 63 percent want lawmakers to look into possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. Voters are split 46-49 percent over whether lawmakers should investigate the wiretapping allegation. Views are clear on whether the president should produce evidence of his claim about the wiretaps: 76 percent think he should. That isn’t just Democrats, although most agree (88 percent). Republicans (63 percent) and independents (70 percent) also think he should show proof.” [Fox]
