The Gundam Mk-II from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
I thoroughly enjoyed Zeta and thought the Mk-II was a terrific design. So, of course, I had to build one. And this Real Grade kit gets terrific reviews - so that's what I chose.
As usual, we've got the Real Grade's Advanced MS Joint B-runner.
I'm amazed every time I build one of these old RG kits. I don't understand how or why they'd mold these moving parts into a runner like this. It's an amazing technical feat... But it can't actually improve manufacturing costs, can it?
There's a runner of ABS parts in this kit, which I don't love. There's nothing wrong with ABS... It's actually great for hard-wearing parts that need to be more durable. But the flow-type panel-liners I like to use absolutely destroy ABS, so I have to be very careful with them.
Since this is an RG kit we get a tiny little pilot figure - Kamille Bidan. At this scale, though, you can barely make out any detail. And since I won't actually be using this figure in the kit, I'm not going to bother painting it.
This kit includes a length of wire and some braided cloth tubing for added detail. It's honestly pretty annoying to work with, and I'm not convinced it adds much to the model. I'm pretty sure you could just do a molded plastic detail instead.
This kit has you build the entire inner-frame first, which was kind of neat. Of course I had to grab a quick picture of the thing under-construction because I'll never see that stripped-down inner-frame again.
Unfortunately, due to the way this inner-frame is built, disassembling the kit for decals and topcoat later is going to be a pain.
Once the inner-frame is built there's a great process of layering the armor up over it. It was very satisfying. There's some fantastic detail and color-separation. And unlike some other RG kits there wasn't anything I really felt I needed to glue in place.
This kit comes with the usual RG sticker-style decals, which I don't generally love. I used the shiny green ones for the eyes and some cameras. I stuck a couple of the gold ones on inner-frame bits of the legs. But that's about it.
I picked up some G-Rework waterslide decals for this kit. Broadly speaking, I like the added flair of G-Rework's designs. They're a little more interesting than the standard Bandai decals. They seem to be easier to apply, and stick better, too.
Unlike the last batch of G-Rework decals - these seem to basically follow Bandai's numbering which made them much easier to apply.
This was a very satisfying build.
I really enjoyed building the entire inner-frame first and then layering the armor over it. The kit feels pretty solid... There's a couple bits I keep pulling off when posing... But nothing that really feels that loose or fragile. Nothing I think I'm going to need to glue in place.
Again, I find myself wishing for more pre-posed hands. There's some in this kit - a couple closed fists, one open hand, and one gun-holding hand. But, again, we're going to be stuck with those semi-poseable RG hands a lot of the time. Like there isn't even a pre-posed hand we can use to hold a beamsaber.
I'm definitely going to have to pick up the Titans version of this kit - just for the excuse to build it again.
And I'm actually debating trying the RG Zeta Gundam kit... I don't love the design of the Zeta Gundam in the first place. And I've heard it called one of the worst RG kits out there. But it kind of feels like I should build it just for completion.

Been talking about Gundam a lot since I was posting about Turn A while I watched, so I’m going to share my currently built Gunpla. Are all HG Zakus so hard to pose on their feet? I felt like I had to fight to keep Char from falling over while putting his Zaku next to the Sazabi. Anyways enjoy the pictures!

RGM-89 Jegan
State-of-the-art during its first rollout in U.C. 0089 , the RGM-89A Jegan saw the Federation break from tradition. Instead of being an in-house development like previous Federation mass-production units, the Jegan was both designed and supplied by Anaheim Electronics.
Mainly intended to serve as a replacement for the rapidly aging RGM-86R GM III, the Jegan incorporated and improved upon many developments introduced with the RGM-88X Jeddah.
One of the most notable features of the Jegan is its head-mounted Vulcan pod. While previous mobile suits did have head-mounted Vulcan cannons, the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II popularized making these gunpods modular, rather than built in directly as they had been previously.
The standard Jegan A-type would see many refits over its lifespan. Eventually, the A-type was replaced by the RGM-89D, which became the new standard pattern. The vast majority of the D-type's changes were internal and software based, in order to keep the Jegan relevant as mobile suit development advanced.
While the A and D types were by far the most common, the Jegan saw over a dozen variants developed for different purposes, mission profiles, or to serve as testbeds for new technologies.
The Jegan became so ubiquitous during its service history that they could still be seen in service as long as 31 years after their deployment. When the Crossbone Vanguard attacked Frontier IV in U.C. 123, Jegan J-types were seen engaging the Vanguard's cutting-edge mobile suits.
The Jegan was originally designed by artist Yutaka Izubuchi for the 1988 film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.
This one was a request from a friend! Anyone and everyone may submit requests!

Now, then! Time to do as promised, and slap those Gunpla under a read more before I go back to writing and seeing what I owe thanks to the hurricane. Don't mind the fact I have no dynamic backgrounds for them, ehehe...
First off, we have the HGUC RX-178 Gundam Mk-II, in A.E.U.G. colors! I know my posing is bad, but this beaut actually had zero problems with assembly, for once. I feel proud of that!
And finally, we have the Entry Grade RX-78-2 Gundam! It doesn't need tools to assemble, making it a perfect gateway model for people wanting to try making Gunpla, but its only equipment are the Beam Rifle and Shield. The Beam Sabers are decorations. I THINK it might be compatible with the HGUC RX-78-2, though? Maybe...?

So, I have ended up falling into gunpla. Fiddly and slightly frustrating but it’s fascinating to see it all come together and move. Someday I might even dare try to put the transfers on.
For now, here’s a variant AEUG RX-178 Gundam Mk-II with its pilot. The missing helmet armour and exposed sensor crest are part of an improvised psycommu system and not due to me losing a part during construction >.>

Title: G Mk-II Battle - Mark vs Flat
A war game between the teams of Titans and the A.E.U.G (Anti-Earth Union Group), and all comes down the two opponents stand at the battlefield. This scene (which is my artwork) is like "Tom the cat" 🐱 vs "Jerry the mouse" 🐭 to see who's the greatest of all, and it never gets old, right? Nowadays, the trend still exist with Mark the cat 🐱 (from team Titans) and Flat the mouse 🐭 (from team A.E.U.G.) battling each other, and see who's the best RX-178 G Mk-II user? 🤖😁
○ Here's a BGM that fits right in 🤖🎶😉 → [CLICK ME!]

Tried a different pose for my Hizack, and I think it works a lot better than what I had it in. I really wish the Hizack gets a new high grade at some point. I love the way it looks, it’s one of my favorite grunt suits, but it lacks a lot in the articulation department.
