HBO’s The Jinx: The miniseries continues to play out
I recently binge watched “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst” miniseries on HBO. I am a big fan of anything HBO puts out, they always make it worth watching. My wife was also excited to watch it since it is basically a “Dateline” or “48 Hours” on steriods.
It is a crazy wild story that spans decades, three murders, and some crazy happenings surrounding Robert Durst (now 71). What I found most interesting is how the documentary fatefully turns into the actual story. There are many twists and turns in The Jinx that makes it interesting to watch so I am not spoiling too much when I jump to the end and tell you that in the very last scene Durst admits to the various killings via a microphone he did not know was still recording in the bathroom saying “Killed them all, of course.” He was driven to this when the director of The Jinx uncovered some very incriminating evidence during the production of the documentary.
Below is a snippet where Durst confesses while stepping into the restroom:

Fast forwarding to after The Jinx HBO series aired, Durst was quickly arrested on March 15th in New Orleans. He is now awaiting extradition to California. Many questions remain. Will the key evidence be admissible or will it have been “tampered” with since it was featured in The Jinx and is submitted by the documentarians? Will director and/or HBO film chief Sheila Nevins be asked to testify? And the one I am most curious of... will there be a season 2 of “The Jinx”?

Movie Review: Need for Speed
Here is Need for Speed on IMDB Coming from a guy who likes action movies, cars, video games, unrealistic stuff, things that can’t happen, every Fast and Furious movie excluding “Tokyo Drift,” and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) from Breaking Bad this movie was for me.
The story line evolved quickly in order to get in some serious race scenes, car chases and other vehicular shenanigans. Shenanigans not only from the fast cars but from aircraft as well.
For the car fans out there... they seamed to successfully cover the gamet of racing and car styles from old school muscle cars to new school muscle cars to the exotic sports cars.
For the Breaking Bad fans out there... you get a pretty good performance from Aaron Paul, there are signs of the Breaking Bad Jesse but overall I felt like it was a solid performance. I am curious to see more big screen showings from Aaron Paul.
For the video game fans... they added a few effects to mimic the game and make it all tie together. They also include some fantastical maneuvering and car crashes to make it game worthy.
I enjoyed a unexpected casting of Michael Keaton and a slew of new gen actors that create their own funny personalities and memorable scenes.
Only downside is I took my oldest son Max and there was some unexpected cursing and brief nudity that he promised to not tell his mom about. Typically I check the rating using "Kids in Mind" but figured since we were on a Disney cruise it would be kid (11 year old) friendly… I was wrong. However, Max thought it was the greatest movie ever! When leaving the theatre Max commented, "They named the movie appropriately because those guys really needed a lot of speed!'
In the end I will definitely check out any sequels that come after this as long as Jesse, I mean Aaron Paul, is still the main character.

My Odd Top 10 Favorite Christmas Movies
I love Christmas movies! To me it is a big part of the Christmas season. However my version of a 'Christmas' movie maybe a bit different than most traditional lists. Feedback and debate are welcome!
The Family Stone (2005) I love this movie! I've watched this movie with my wife the last few years start to finish with no distractions. It has a great set of actors and perfect balance of humor, story line, sentimentality and uncomfortable situations (particularly surrounding Sarah Jessica Parker) character. Luke Wilson plays a care free brother and is just priceless. This is a great movie to watch during the Christmas season to remember how important family is.
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (1989) You know when you are quoting a Christmas movies all year long you that it has to be special. Clark Griswold is forever a Christmas icon. I remember going to see this movie at least four times with my dad back at Christmas in 1989. We couldn't get enough of it... still can't.
Die Hard (1988) What a great year it was, I was an impressionable 6th grader and I think my dad and I may have seen this one in the theatre about 5 times that season. For this it will forever be burn, shot, blown-up, and thrown into my Christmas memories.
A Christmas Story (1983) I love everything about this movie. It was shot in 1983 but was based in the 1940's. The narration alone is priceless. Topic like the Red Rider BB Gun and the Leg Lamp that is "Fra-Gee-Lay" (must be Italian) will live on forever!
Lethal Weapon (1987) What's better than Christmas time in L.A. with a crazy suicidal partner who gets into a fight with Gary Busey on your front lawn.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946) I can't really recall the last time I watched this movie all the way through but its a Christmas staple. My favorite part is the dance scene where they fall into the pool underneath the basketball court. Did anyone really ever have a pool under their basketball court?
Gremlins (1984) An odd Christmas pick but it reminds me of my 80's childhood. Who all got a stuffed Gizmo for Christmas that year?
Home Alone (1990) Just a great Christmas movie. I think they killed it with the Home Alone 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 but don't let that take away from the original. Side note, didn't we recently see Macauley Culkin at the Oklahoma City County jail?
Scrooged (1988) Because who doesn't like Bill Murray.
The Holiday (2006) An odd selection but one I just watched this year and am going to try and add it to the yearly rotation. You can't go wrong adding a little Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law into your Christmas movie mix.
I'd love to hear what your favs are, I am sure I could have missed one or two. Merry Christmas movie watching everyone!
