On the news: A young man, a bank employee, opens fire at a bank in Louisville.  Terrible. More details soon to be made known to us.   Coinidentally, later in the day I mail a huge check to the Internal Revenue Service, in Louisville. 

Beautiful weather.  

Some workers have begun a project on the front of my apartment building.  They are playing Mexican music.  But...realy Mexican music.  Mariachi fare.  It begins to pall after a while.  

Hear of the passing of Rodger Parrett.  Trumpet player and quite a character.  Always called everyone “baby.”  Some years back had the big one running up the stairs to catch a train after a gig.  Miraciously saved after his heart had shut down.  Later, telling me about it, said,, “Baby, I died!”

As it turns out the Louisville shooter livestreamed it.  Left a suicide note knowing he would be killed (death by cop).  A bank employee soon to be fired.  

Trump’s lawyers are keen on delaying the E. Jean Carroll rape case.  Some technicality, claiming that Trump needs a rest from all of his court business..  Delay, delay, delay.  

Beautiful weather.  Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get rid of that cough.  

The further adventures of Rupert Murdoch bring to mind an old joke.  Some background: Rupbert is 92, recently divorced from Jerry Hall.  He was about to marry a woman in her sixties but said he was troubled by her religious beliefs and called it off.  

Now...   Two old men are talking.  Both of them nearing ninety.  One say he’s going to get married.  He says he met a (much younger) lady at the public library.  His friend says, “But your wife has only been dead for twenty years”...The reply is: it’s time to move on.  The friend: “Well, I’m not so sure this is the right thing for you.” The reply: “Well, if she dies, she dies.”

In one of the Rupert & Rob interviews when the film finally got released, the interviewer asks them if they got really close on set, cuz he assumed the friendship they had must have been real. After they look uncomfortable for a few beats, they kind of sort of a little answered the question by saying that they filmed for around 4ish weeks. And they enjoyed the pubs in Belfast. Which translates to: It’s called acting.

While we know Rupert can act the hell out of a best friendship, I really believe it was Rob who created most of that intensity of a lifelong friendship feeling. There are certainly scenes where Rupert nails that friendship-love that shows a deep knowing of another human being. (Most notably, the orange couch scene, and the one pill bit above.) But man, Rob does it from scene one and on throughout every one of their scenes, the whole film. I feel like Rob carries the portrayal of their friendship to the degree that the audience is convinced the actors themselves must have gotten super close.

Note: By the time we got Moonwalkers, they actually were close. To the degree that they co-wrote and sold a tv show concept with them as the leads. It was never made, but they were clearly choosing to spend time in each others’ company outside a gig.
