The way the DNC treated Tim Walz this past election cycle is such a clear sign to me that they can't be trusted with any politician that isn't fully in their cookiecutter center-right mold.

Before Walz was picked to be Harris's runningmate, he was out there on TV hitting Republicans, calling them out for their frankly bizarre behavior and hitting them back on their attacks on LGBTQ people, people of color, women, and immigrants.

After? He was totally muzzled. You didn't hear a damn thing from him, and when you did it was totally off.

You know why? He was trying to be forced into saying and doing all of the standard Dem bullshit.

I watched him after he was picked, he seemed like he wasn't used to a teleprompter. He seemed like he wasn't comfortable with everything they were trying to get him to do, the things that the consultant class says are winning strategies. They didn't give him the prep he needed for his debates.

In speeches or meet and greets with voters, when he was allowed to be a little free? He was great, he was personable. He met people where they were.

And now the greater public only knows him as what the DNC presented him as. He's been totally burned on a national stage when he could have been an effective part of what's coming. Did he still have issues? Absolutely, his response to BLM in 2020 was bad! But it's significantly better than the brand the Dems have ran with for two decades at this point.

So, honestly, I don't trust them if we elevate an AOC (I'm sure they'll Bernie her anyway). Even pols that aren't even leftists, just real people, like Andy Bashear. It's just going to keep being the same bullshit.

Hmmmmmm.... off the top of my head... the Conte Di Savoia.

She's a lot prettier than her runningmate, the SS Rex, albeit a tad smaller and slower. The Rex also featured more traditional interiors, whereas the Conte Di Savoia had more modern, innovative designs based on art deco. Rex may have been bigger and faster, but I've always thought the Conte Di Savoia was the more radical and innovative liner. She's also greatly overshadowed by the Rex, because Rex was Italian Lines only Blue Ribband holder. Originally these two ships were designed as rivals, but Musollini made the two parent companies merge. Unfortunately, both ships met a similar fate. Neither survived World War II. In 1943, she was bombed by a British aircraft, caught fire, and rolled over. In 1945, the wreck was raised, and she was completely scrapped by 1950.

Here she is in a rather sorry state after her wreck was raised.

Anyway, here's some more pictures because she's a gorgeous liner.

She's number 26 because to me, a ships story is the most important aspect, and hers isn't all that remarkable compared to the others on the list.

Kamala anon here. I don't think your response was bad or anything. My thoughts were also jumbled. Yeah, I think I mischaracterized you about Harris, so apologies for that. I shouldve said the democratic party instead of her, which is where my actual frustration is. Shouldve went with that instead of getting caught up in my feelings and demanding you explain your stance on Kamala unprompted 🎤

I'm just confused and angry about how people are treating both her and the democratic party. Like a while back you mentioned how infuriating it was for no Palestinians to be at the DNC, and how disrespectful it was to have someone talk about the October 7 attack. I completely agree that it was awful, but you (and a TON of other people) seemed surprised by it. And I guess that's what I wanted to ask about: why? Why are people surprised that the DNC is pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian genocide?? There will NEVER be a Palestinian protestor at the DNC. They're NEVER going to do an arms embargo. There will NEVER be a ceasefire demanded by the US. Why would they? The US relies on Israel's existence for its hold on the MENA region. If Israel ceased to exist as a settler colony, the US would lose so many resources and power it would become more vulnerable and less of the superpower it currently is. The US cannot exist as it is without Israel. That's why Democrats are pro-genocide. They're not neutral about it, they aren't avoidant of the issue, they actively support it, just as much as the Republicans do. That's how it's possible for someone like Dick Cheney to endorse a Democrat. That's how it's possible for Democrats to openly laugh at and mock protestors listing the names of dead Palestinians ON VIDEO.

I'm not aware of any times when a president or presidential candidate was "pushed left" by their constituents, at least with regard to foreign policy. If there are I'd love to know about them, or find resources about them, but as it is I straight up don't believe Harris and the party will ever be pushed left. Even if their words change and become nicer to hear, they won't do a damn thing for Palestine. It is not in their financial or political interests to do so. Their wallets come before their supporters, every time.

I'm just angry and have no one whose left wing to talk about it with. Ugh!!!!!!! The whole thing makes me feel hopeless.

As far as having no one left wing to talk about with, please join your local DSA. It will also help with the hopeless feeling. I'm hearing a lot of frustration. Keep a close eye on policies and elections, but don't forget to water your backyard first, okay?

Again, I do still think this is bad faith nonnie. I wasn't surprised. I was disgusted because I was following the uncommitted movement at the DNC and the protests and appeals.

"Pushing the party left" doesn't work for a lot of things, especially fundamental overhaul and foreign policy. But the only reason Tim Walz is the nominee runningmate and not Josh Shapiro is because of the Palestine protests. But even so, that is platitudes in the grand scheme of things.

100,000 people showing up and voting uncommitted in Michigan got news attention, got eyes on Palestine. So do the protests.

The democratic party will move left in certain things, like social safety nets, economic policies, etc. The goal is for them to get the minimum amount of votes necessary to be reelected while giving their donors maximum satisfaction. As such, pushing for progressive policies will at least get your elderly neighbor to not die after being booted from medicare. It's US-centric, but regardless, inaction is not a form of protest. You have to actually organize.

Please look into your local DSA! I genuinely think it will help. Also, googling your closest big city + "Palestine protest" will get you local protests you can join. You will meet likeminded folks there, too, especially since a lot of them are organized by socialist groups.

So, yes, the SS America is still my favorite. The biggest reason is her career. Generally for me, the single most important factor in how much I like any given liner is her story. Most Ocean Liners last 25 to 30 years at most. America had a career spanning nearly 50 years. She had many owners and many names, many paint schemes, many configurations, and many purposes. She's been an Ocean Liner, a World War 2 Troop Transport, an immigrant carrier, a cruise ship, and she nearly became a prison ship and a floating hotel. I'd HIGHLY reccomend the documentary about her by Oceanliner Designs. It's genuinely my favorite video on YouTube. The end nearly had me in tears and I'm not joking.

The second reason I love her so much is her exterior design. While I think her younger Runningmate, the SS United States, is a bit better looking, I still think the America is just eye achingly beautiful. Here are some of my favorite pics of her ^ω^
