4) what is your favourite line you wrote this year?

8) what are three things you're looking forward to next year?

tackling, maybe even finishing, three projects with a more consistent schedule than i've maintained in the past: namesake; kalsar and runa; and at home, with graves.

querying a full manuscript for the first time.

publishing one poem and one short story. i had a lot of close calls with personalized rejections this year, but i also only queried to twelve litmags (and am still waiting to hear back from three of them.) i hope i'm more consistent and proactive with this in the new year.

13) how did you change as a writer? did you learn anything new? started to plan instead of pants? share your wisdom

planning ahead with an outline instead of relying on discovery writing has helped me narrow the scope of my story. before, i was trying to include far too much, and i think i've found a suitable marriage of both conventions that suits my goals.

opening myself up to rejection has been interesting. i was really worried i would take it to heart, bc some offhand comments often feel like a wound, but this didn't seem to bother me. i get bummed out every time i receive a decline, whether it's for an editing job or my own writing, but i also never dwell on it. i feel like a very determined fisherman who refuses to head back to shore.

Oh boy, you hit the nail with that reading. I've been struggling to deal with certain coworkers and figure out how to set boundaries. Especially with that one lady. Don't even wanna get into that. I did talk to my assistant manager about that lady though, so I think things will smooth over.

I've especially been struggling to deal with explaining my neurodivergent issues. I know I shouldn't have to explain myself in that department, but I can tell if I don't I'm gonna have problems with people.

what was your writing-highlight this year? what made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?

oof, i didn't have any writing hightlights this year, if i'm being truthful. but restarting my manuscript helped me carve out my direction! i finally made an outline, despite my issues with them in the past; i met my nano goal, even if it was 20k under everyone else; and i started on kalsar and runa's journey. i guess those are little victories that, altogether, don't make the whole year feel like i was stagnant.

7) How do you feel about "problematic" workings (baneful workings, love workings, health workings, doing workings on others without consent, etc)?

Mixed opinions depending on the working.

I don't give a shit if people do baneful workings. This includes bindings, jinxes, hexes, curses, etc... I myself have performed a few in the past. I do have my morals, though, so I evaluate the situation before jumping to baneful magic. I also believe that young children should never be the target of baneful magic. Like... they're kids. Their brains are still developing and they're still figuring out the world. Doing baneful magic on children is about as bad, if not worse, than physically hitting them.

Health workings and superstitions are actually common in folk practices, so I don't mind those. I do believe they can work, but I don't believe they are a reliable cure for serious injuries or illness.

Love workings... Self love? Fine. Attracting new love without an intended target in mind? Fine, but think it through beforehand. Using magic to gain the affections of a specific target? Might as well kidnap them if you're gonna do that (don't actually do that; I'm being extremely sarcastic).

Personally, I feel like asking about consent when doing workings depends on your moral compass, what kind of workings you're doing and who you're doing workings on. I fall in the grey area of this. I consider factors such as does the person practice magic themselves? Are there other ways to help them? Are they worth my time and energy? It's a good gesture, but some things are also better left unsaid.

9) What's your favorite divination tool?

Right now my conjure cards/playing cards are my favorite. I don't think this deck is for everybody though.

10) What's your least favorite divination tool?

I've never liked pendulums. I feel like they are too easily manipulated by the user in order to get a favorable answer.

11) Do you celebrate any holidays? Which ones?

I'll take part in family events during holidays like Christmas and such, but I personally don't celebrate any holidays. I have been thinking about if I should start doing so, but I'd wanna do something more original and specific to my own practices.

it’s brainrot night i see 😎 okay so toshi strikes me as a safe haven? there’s less excitement and more contentment like the kind of smile you’ll get when you have your favourite food or the relaxing feeling of hearing a really soothing song you heard long ago. the buzz you get is like a low hum inside your heart and it’s a constant comfort when you’re with him. you guys would have cute little tells between each other as your connection grows overtime, small little cues that you’ve both learned and can read each other almost effortlessly. he loves self care with you, too! when you get yourself new facemasks and ask him to try it out with you, he’s not saying no, and he’ll gladly let you guys take as many pictures of yourself as you want to 🥰 if he catches you dancing or just being at peace with yourself and in your moment, he’ll end up just watching you with the softest smile on his face, and only when you notice him will he walk up to you and softly cradle your face and give you the sweetest kiss. when he pulls away and you chase his lips for another kiss, your big baby won’t deny you. oh oh!! fingering, there’s something that’s been on my mind. okay concept, and this is inspired by one of those hentai screenshots i saw before: toshi having you backed up against the wall, you in nothing but one of his shirts and his fingers buried deep inside of you while your hands are grabbing on to him. he’s entirely focused on making you cream all over his fingers and he loves the way you have to grab on to his hands to keep yourself standing upright, eyes desperately pleading for him to make you feel good

Honestly, I have nothing but respect for folk practitioners. As a white person growing up in rural Missouri who's displaced from everything several times over, I admire how many people are rooted to their homes in ways that can't be separated merely by moving.
