Lloyd Manyepwa was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa who remanded him to August 3 on $200 bail. As part of his bail conditions Manyepwa was ordered to surrender his passport to the clerk of court, not to interfere with State witness, to reside at the given address and to report twice at CID Commercial Crimes Division. It is the State’s case that in September last year, the accused approached one Chenjerai Gwanzura and indicated to him that he had won a tender with Econet Zimbabwe to import mobile phone gadgets from the United States based company, Sky Devices. Manyepwa told Gwanzura that he needed a partner who can finance the project. Gwanzura approached the complainant who is not named in court papers but is a 70-year old woman. It is alleged the complainant got interested in the deal and the parties arranged a meeting on how they were going to operate in a partnership. During the meeting Manyepwa misrepresented to the complainant that Sky Devices wanted $2 000 to release a product sample and he was given the money. The complainant was told that the product will be shared together with the capital. After a short period Manyepwa approached the complainant again and told her that he was running out of time to meet the deadline and he needed $50 000 to facilitate quick importation of the rest of mobile phone gadgets. The State alleges the complainant transferred $50 000 into Manyepwa’s bank account. After receiving the money Manyepwa converted it to own use and he started giving false promises to the complainant and later he became evasive. The complainant then reported the matter to the police leading to Manyepwa’s arrest. A Hwedza teacher who allegedly obtained cellphones worth close to $6 000 from Astro Mobile Company despite being blacklisted by the Salary Service Bureau (SSB) from accessing credit has appeared in court.

Ephraim Mavhima (40), a teacher at St Anne’s Goto High School in Hwedza, recently appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, who remanded him to January 20 on $100 bail.

Anderson Chitsungo, the husband of suspended Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission boss Sukai Tongogara, who was accused of raping his wife’s 16-year-old niece, was last Friday removed from remand.Chitsungo (34) applied for removal from remand after the State failed to furnish him with a trial date. In his application, Chitsungo said his continued remand was unreason- able.

“Being on remand is not a walk in the park, I was on remand since July 12, last year and I religiously attended court,” he said.

Harare magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa removed Chitsungo from remand and advised the State to proceed by way of summons. According to the State, the victim lived with the couple since childhood following her parents’ separation. Prosecutor Ms Audrey Chogumaira alleged that on October 4, 2015 the complainant was at home in the company of Chitsungo when he ordered her to bring popcorn to his bedroom.

When she returned to Chitsungo’s bedroom with salt and a drink, Chitsungo, the court heard, locked the door and raped her.

After the act, Chitsungo ordered her not to reveal the abuse to anyone before threatening her with death. Chitsungo reportedly raped the complainant for the second time in June last year.

First Class bus operator duped by cell-mate at remand prison - NewsDay

FIRST Class bus operator, Simbarashe Gibson, was allegedly duped of $3 000 by a newly-made acquaintance at Harare Central Remand Prison, where the businessman is in custody awaiting trial for aggravated indecent assault.

The suspect, Yusuf Marios, was yesterday denied bail and remanded to January 20 by Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

Marios (32) faces a separate charge of theft of trust property.

The State alleges that sometime in December last year, Gibson met Marios at Harare Central Remand Prison, where the two shared a cell. They allegedly engaged in a business discussion, where Marios misrepresented that he was selling a flat bed trailer for $8 000.

The State alleges that Marios asked Gibson to pay a deposit of $3 000 and the latter told his son, Simon, to release the money to the suspect.

It is alleged when Gibson paid the deposit, he asked his manager, Essau Machemedze, to collect the trailer from Beitbridge.

It, however, later emerged that the trailer belonged to a Kamanga based in South Africa.

The trailer was subsequently seized by the South African police pending Marios’ trial for theft of trust property. Audrey Chogumaira appeared for the State.

A 39 year old Harare Pastor Onbert Mapfumo who is founder of Highfields based ‘By Grace Ministries’ appeared before a Harare magistrate answering to charges of raping three congregants.

Pastor Mapfumo who was ambushed on a live local radio station hosted by Tilder Moyo on Tuesday night by one of the three complainants and her husband over his shenanigans before being arrested appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing charges of raping three women from his church.

The state represented by Ms Audrey Chogumaira in its papers says on various occasions, Moyo summoned the complainants to his prayer room at house number 7937 New Canaan Highfield Harare.

He allegedly would then call the complainants and administer prayers and instructing them that he wanted to deliver them from evil spirits.

Through prayers, he was supposed to sleep with them so as to break the chains of poverty.

Mapfumo who is represented by Jonathan Madotsa pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted US$100 bail.

He was also ordered to reside at his given address, report once every Friday at ZRP Machipisa station and not to interfere with witnesses. – State Media

Harare men take turns to rape girl night away

Two Harare men allegedly lured an 18-year-old schoolgirl into boarding the wrong commuter omnibus on her way home and took turns to rape her all night, writes Fungai Lupande.

Tichaona Chiutsi (26) and Itai Chiradza (28) are now facing rape charges.

They are out of custody on $100 bail each.

 Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa heard that Chiradza was in no show, resulting in her remanding Chiutsi to January 10 for trial.

The complainant, who cannot be named, lives in Tynwald South in Harare.

Prosecutor Audrey Chogumaira alleged that on November 28, 2016 around 5pm, the complainant was in the Harare central business district on her way from school.

It was raining and Chiutsi advised the girl to board a commuter omnibus to Dzivarasekwa.

It is alleged that on the way, the girl realised that the commuter omnibus was destined for Warren Park.

Chiutsi disembarked in Warren Park and took the girl’s satchel with him. It is alleged that she followed him and was introduced to Chiradza and another man.

Chiutsi went to his house and the girl followed intending to collect her school bag and on arrival she was forced to have a drink mixed with Zed, a toxic alcoholic drink

Chiutsi raped the girl while Chiradza watched, it is alleged. Chiradza also allegedly raped her afterwards.

It is alleged that after the sexual assault, Chiutsi offered the girl to sleep over because it was late.

The court heard that during that night, the pair took turns to sexually abuse the girl.

The following day, the girl went to school from Chiutsi’s house and her mother and aunt were waiting for her at school.

She narrated the ordeal and they went to report the matter to the police.
