so i just thought about a cute dynamic with your iterator AU

so, the slugcats objectively have more experience in surviving and traversing this world, so they might start treating the iterators as little siblings or pups and generally being protective of them

like, survivor might treat moon as if they were their sibling and gourmand would definitely treat her as a pup.

you ever seen those pictures of tired parents with hyperactive toddlers on a leash? that would probably be the relationship between hunter and NSH

I've always interpreted Elizabeth inheriting a lot of William's sociopathic tendencies (as seen with Baby in the games being a manipulative bitch of an animatronic)

In Soldered Wires, Elizabeth is her father's daughter; she learned how to manipulate her friends into following her and giving her their best toys or presents, even at their own birthdays. And those that get on Elizabeth's bad side suddenly find their favorite things being stolen and found broken. And those who got on her worst side quickly found themselves at the hospital. (Think Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender)

This behavior manifested well with William's spoiling of her since her birth: if she wanted something, he would get it for her; if her brothers harmed a hair on her head, he would see to it they were punished for doing so; if she got in trouble with someone outside the family, he would throw as much money to the problem until it went away. And Elizabeth would fake injuries and lie about her brothers doing stuff they weren't allowed to do in order to get what she wanted around the house (William would be in denial his daughter would be capable of such criminal activity due to his misogyny against her until her teen years)

Michael and Evan were probably the two closest people to ever know the true nature of Elizabeth throughout their childhood. Evan, being Evan, would give into Elizabeth again and again due to how much she could outfight him. Michael could at least hold his own against his baby sister and tell her no when she deserved it, but he knew she already had William in her tiny hand the moment she yelled.

what if it was broadcasted live, all over the galaxy, because they believed riyo would be proved wrong.

what if echo's words are sent out and heard by everyone, everyone listening, for once, to a clone, a clone who tells a story of horrors, of experiencing things no natborn could ever dream of surviving, of running and taking his family with him, of the desperation to provide his sister, the youngest of them all, with a life far, far away from war and harm, of watching, feeling, hearing his home destroyed, and being able to do nothing about it.

(fully imagining a scene similar to hevy’s testimony in @meridiansdominoes’s fic, just echo staring down every single senator around him, making sure every single one of them hears the words that he's saying)

omega would be standing with riyo, hidden away from the cameras, of course, but watching her brother with the brightest, most awe-filled eyes

rex, sitting in the warehouse with hunter, wrecker, and tech, watching echo and trying not to cry, because that's one of his boys up there, defending every single one of their brothers, protecting them.

tucked away, their children fast asleep, cut and suu listen, cut unable to stop the bittersweet smile as the brother he barely knows pours his heart out and tells the story of the clones.

somewhere, hunkering down, a deserter hiding, cody hears his echo, hears his ad, and all he feels is fierce, burning pride for him, and wonders about what the ramrod, reg-following shiny would think of himself now.

maybe crosshair hears the broadcast, watches it tucked away in his bunk, alone and exhausted, staring at the face of his ori'vod, and something starts to stir, something that makes his heart yearn just a little for his siblings.

and maybe, just maybe, hidden away on some isolated planet, there’s a trio of clones sitting in darkness.

one of the clones isn’t even listening to echo’s words, only his voice.

a voice he hasn’t heard in years.

Vanyel gave Stefen a small, conspiratorial smile in response, and the expression was too much, too intimate. Stefen wanted to breathe that smile in and never exhale. He wanted to hold it under his tongue, stitch it next to heart—whatever it took to make that smile a part of himself forever.

He felt tears threatening to fall, so he closed his eyes and turned away.

Vanyel squeezed his knee and bumped his shoulder against Stefen’s. “And what did you steal? This poster is rather spare on the details—they’re never going to get their property back if they won’t even describe what was taken.”

“Well, there’s a reason they’re avoiding descriptions,” Stefen said with a laugh, his voice only slightly wet. “Let me just show you. You’d never believe it without seeing it.”
