Manorian Babies

1. Asterin Rhiannon Crochan-Blackbeak, Heir to the Witch Kingdom

Hair: Silvery White

Eye color: Sapphire flexed with gold

Complexion: Alabaster

Powers: Raw Magic. Her favorite is the wind as she often feels it sing to her and likes to sing back. Asterin does not have iron teeth as she takes primarily after her mother’s Crochan side. Due to her father’s heritage she can access more magic than any other Crochan or witch in history. Though it took years for her powers to fully develop. For many she only had the wind.

Fav parent: Asterin is an absolute daddy’s girl. She often will use her raw magic to open a portal so they can discuss books he recommends. He gives her dancing lessons and teaches her about court intrigue. As a child she refused to leave his side and would throw a fit when he left for council meetings, often resulting in him taking her with him. Even though she is closer with her father she respects her mother and often shadows her in her duties. When Asterin was born her mother refused to leave her side for weeks, not trusting anyone but her father to properly look after her.

Personality: Unlike her sister, she enjoys the mundane tasks of ruling a kingdom. Because of her relationship with her father she often spent time in council meetings and learned the ways of the court at a young age. If she had it her way she’d spend every day in the library learning the history of the witches and Erelia. Even though she is not heir to Adarlan she thinks it imperative to learn its history as well. She often spars with her brother over this, who reminds her with a smile than she cannot be heir to two kingdoms. She doesn’t mind attending council meetings as she feels she has a responsibility to uphold and that she should be involved in all decisions regarding the witches. She is very tightly wound like her mother and often doesn’t slow down and soak in the moment. She doesn’t enjoy frivolous parties but she does enjoy ballroom dancing like her father taught her. Her sister and her clash as Asterin is often nagging Lothian for her constant outlandishness and “lack of direction”. Asterin is known across Erelia as the only beauty to rival that of her mother. She often has suitors requesting her hand but she rejects the notion saying that she is far too busy with important matters of the kingdom. This makes Manon smile and Dorian eternally happy as it keeps people’s paws off his first girl.

2. Lothian Sorscha Havilliard Crochan-Blackbeak , Leader of the Adarlan/Wastes Ariel legion and second in command to Asterin

Hair: Raven Black

Eye Color: Burnt Gold

Complexion: Alabaster

Power: Lothian does not have any raw magic as she takes after her mother’s Ironteeth (valg) heritage primarily. When her iron teeth began to come in at 12 she had never been so happy. She spends most of her time in the Ferian gap training the Wyverns and excels in hand to hand combat, only rivaled by her brother.

Fav Parent: Lothian often clashes heads with her mother even though they are best friends. Manon taught her how to fly and fight at a young age. Often her and her mother bicker and her father has to step in. He just laughs at them knowing how stubborn they both are. Lothian has Dorian’s penchant for debauchery and often sneaks off to pubs and pleasure houses. She thinks her father doesn’t notice but secretly he sends guards to trail after her just in case.

Personality: Lothian spends time flying between both Adarlan and the witch kingdom. She spends most of her days training the aerial legion, but at night she indulges in the “substances” the rukin brought from the southern continent. She is a wild and free spirit who enjoys not having a kingdom to rule. She has a friendship with the wildlings in the Fang as their spirits are akin to one another. Her and her sister clash but they love each other dearly. Lothian once threatened to rip the insides out of a boy who pulled her sister’s hair when they were younger. Her and her brother are incredibly close as they are both enjoy a bit of reverly. Often her brother encourages her to “break the rules for him”.

3. Dorian Gavin Havilliard |||, Heir to Adarlan and a rare Crochan prince

Hair: Black hair with a Silvery White strip

Eye color: Sapphire

Complexion: Golden Tan

Magic: Raw Magic. It is easier for Dorian to access his magic than his sister Asterin, much to her dismay. His favorite is ice, like his father. His magic materialized at a young age.

Fav parent: Dorian was attached at the hip to Manon as a child. A total mama’s boy. Being the youngest and only boy, Manon absolutely babies him (though she will not admit it) as she never imagined they’d have a boy. When he was born, the witches held a celebration to honor the birth of a rare Crochan prince, even though he was to inherit Adarlan. As a child he would often tag along with Manon on her morning rides with Abraxos and enjoyed feeding the Wyvern flowers. Being a rare Crochan prince, he often spent time with Glennis hearing stories of his grandfather Tristan and how he upheld his role as prince. Dorian however loves and respects his father and sees him as a role model for the type of king he wants to be. Dorian looks mostly like his father aside from a strip of silvery white hair he was born with.

Personality: Dorian enjoys pass times such as combat and sword fighting but also reads books on books on books. He enjoys war strategy and often plays games of chess with his father that turn much too competitive. Dorian however hates dancing and would rather poke his eyes out than participate in lessons. Often he elects to go on a morning run and enjoys winking at all the ladies who swoon as he runs by. However his real reason for the run is to sneak a peak at Sitha, Yrene and Chaol’s third daughter. Though he may act the part of a rake he has been hopelessly in love with her since they met. She is however 5 years his senior and never allows him to forget that. When he was younger and would wallow to his father, he would say “age is but a number” and wink at his mother. Dorian aspires to have a love like his parents. He is extremely close with both his sisters in totally different ways. While he appeals to Lothian’s trouble maker side and encourages her “bad behavior”, he understands the pressures and responsibilities felt by his sister Asterin and they often vent to each other about the stresses of their respective kingdoms. Growing up he was the neutral party between them and often tried to act as moderator in their arguments.

El Impacto de la Migración Europea en la Educación y la Alimentación en Argentina y Nueva York

Hace un par de años, entré en un restaurante argentino en Nueva York, esperando una clásica comida de barbacoa, empanadas o chimichurri.

Para mi sorpresa, el menú incluía platos europeos como spaghetti alla carbonara de Italia, ratatouille de Francia y schnitzel alemán. Confundido, me pregunté: "¿Entré en el lugar equivocado?" Sin embargo, el diverso menú me intrigó, lo que me llevó a pedir la milanesa de pollo, un plato italiano que estaba absolutamente delicioso.

Este menú no era simplemente una lista de comidas; representaba la narrativa de la evolución cultural de Argentina, fuertemente influenciada por la migración europea. Como discutimos en nuestra última publicación de blog, desde 1880 hasta 1930, más de seis millones de europeos emigraron a Argentina, trayendo consigo una rica tapicería de tradiciones culinarias. Estas influencias ahora son un pilar nacional, desde las pizzas y pastas inspiradas en Italia en los restaurantes urbanos hasta las cervezas artesanales influenciadas por Alemania en los Andes.

Estos sabores europeos han sido creativamente adaptados en Argentina, mezclando ingredientes locales para formar platos híbridos únicos. Por ejemplo, la pasta italiana tradicional a menudo presenta un giro argentino distintivo, incorporando carnes y productos locales. De igual manera, la tradición española de las tapas se ha transformado en picadas, un surtido de quesos locales, carnes curadas y aceitunas que exhiben la rica diversidad agrícola de Argentina.

Como Ethan observó en su análisis sobre Guayaquil, Ecuador, "En ciudades como Guayaquil, la escena culinaria es vibrante y dinámica, con una gama de platos influenciados por la migración constante dentro del país, ofreciendo una fusión de sabores de diferentes regiones." Aquella noche en Nueva York trascendió una simple comida; fue un viaje culinario que hizo eco de la migración de mi propia familia de Europa a América. Me recordó las historias de mis abuelos sobre cómo adaptaban sus recetas queridas con ingredientes del Nuevo Mundo. Esta mezcla de tradiciones culinarias es una piedra angular de la cocina argentina y refleja cómo las comunidades inmigrantes, particularmente las familias judías en Nueva York, utilizan la comida para preservar y evolucionar sus identidades culturales. Los inmigrantes judíos, huyendo de la persecución y buscando nuevos comienzos, trajeron consigo tradiciones culinarias que adaptaron a los ingredientes y gustos de su nuevo hogar. Establecieron emblemáticas delis judías, como Katz's Delicatessen, famosa por sus contundentes sándwiches de pastrami, bagels con lox y queso crema, y una variedad de delicias encurtidas.

Estas delis no solo han atendido a la comunidad judía, sino que también se han convertido en una parte integral del diverso panorama culinario de Nueva York, querido por personas de todos los orígenes.

Cenar en ese restaurante argentino fue una profunda lección sobre cómo la migración mezcla culturas y redefine identidades, ilustrando que Argentina, al igual que América, prospera como un crisol donde cada ola de inmigrantes enriquece el tejido nacional. Esta comida profundizó mi aprecio por los intrincados sabores de la migración y las historias conmovedoras que cada plato cuenta.

Continuando desde donde James dejó las influencias culinarias europeas en Argentina, exploraremos cómo estas olas de migración han entrelazado intrincadamente un rico tapiz de idiomas en el sistema educativo de Argentina. Esto refleja el vibrante paisaje lingüístico de la ciudad de Nueva York, mostrando el poder transformador de la migración.

Cuando Argentina abrió sus puertas a millones de europeos desde finales del siglo XIX hasta principios del siglo XX, sus aulas se convirtieron en crisoles de intercambio cultural. Las escuelas comenzaron a resonar con idiomas como el italiano, alemán y francés, enriqueciendo la experiencia educativa y abriendo la mente de los estudiantes a diferentes perspectivas e ideas. Cada clase de idiomas en Nueva York se convierte en una mini-reunión de la mezcla cultural de la ciudad, fomentando ciudadanos globales desde una edad temprana. Por ejemplo, las escuelas públicas en Queens podrían ofrecer clases en idiomas como el bengalí, mandarín y español, que son predominantes dentro de sus comunidades locales. Además, festivales culturales en barrios como Little Italy y Chinatown proporcionan experiencias inmersivas a través de las cuales tanto estudiantes como residentes interactúan con los idiomas en contextos vibrantes y prácticos. 

Madison mencionó algo similar en su blog sobre el papel crucial de la lengua guaraní en el sistema educativo paraguayo. Desde la promulgación de la Ley de Lenguas en 2010, que promueve el uso oficial del guaraní junto al español, las escuelas han incorporado el guaraní no solo para preservar esta lengua indígena, sino también para fomentar un sentido de identidad nacional y resistencia cultural. Este esfuerzo por mantener viva la lengua guaraní a través de la educación es un testimonio del poder de los sistemas educativos para conservar lenguajes en riesgo de desaparición, y refleja un fenómeno similar a lo que vemos en las escuelas de Nueva York con la inclusión de idiomas de diversas comunidades inmigrantes.

Tanto Argentina como Nueva York aprovechan su diversidad lingüística para enriquecer las experiencias educativas, celebrándola como un recurso clave. Este enfoque común subraya el impacto significativo de la inmigración en los modelos educativos, haciéndolos más inclusivos, atractivos y culturalmente variados. En ambas regiones, los estudiantes se benefician del aprendizaje en múltiples idiomas, lo que potencia su capacidad para pensar de manera flexible y empatizar con diferentes culturas.

Nuestro recorrido por los paisajes educativos de Argentina y Nueva York subraya el profundo impacto que la migración tiene en la configuración no solo de las identidades sociales sino también de las prácticas educativas. Al valorar su diversidad lingüística, ambas áreas maximizan el potencial de sus poblaciones multiculturales para crear entornos de aprendizaje innovadores, inclusivos y bien adaptados para nuestro mundo interconectado.

Hoy en dia hay 45,000 judios en España, mayoritariamente en Madrid y Barcelona. Sin embargo, al menos, el 25% de los españoles son de origen judio, unos 10,000,000.

También, existen colegios judios de educación primaria y secundaria en Madrid, Barcelona y Melilla.

Hoy en dia, hay más de 30 sinagogas en España. 

Además de contar con sinagogas judías, en España existen cementerios judíos en ciudades como Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Málaga, Melilla, Ceuta, Palma de Mallorca y Benidorm.

Especialmente triste en un momento como hoy, la fachada del cementerio judío de Madrid apareció con pintadas antisemitas y neonazis en diciembre de 2020.

Sin embargo, actos como estos ocurren en todas partes del mundo. En España existe libertad de culto, los judios celebran todas sus fiestas, no están limitados por nada, ni por nadie. Hay un respeto total al pueblo judio en esa sociedad. La época en la que estaban perseguidos ya pasó.Su cultura está integrada en todos los aspectos de la vida en España, especialmente en la comida. Muchos de las comidas que comen los judíos están relacionados con sus conexiones con la religión. Los judíos se rigen por la Tora del Antiguo Testamento. Su lengua es el hebreo, pero las migraciones han mezclado su idioma con otros. La Tora del Antiguo Testamento expresa que no es seguro comer cerdos. Así que una costumbre es que cerdo está prohibido y la carne se prepara Kosher. Otras costumbres son:

Circumcision : A los 8 días después de nacer, como símbolo del pacto entre Dios y Abraham.

Sabbat: El septimo dia de la semana es sagrado.

Romper una copa en las bodas: Recuerda la destrucción del Templo.

Vestimenta: Sencilla. La Kipá recuerda que no hay nadie por encima de Dios.

Cuerpo: La ley judía prohíbe los tatuajes y piercings.

Jevra Kadisha o Hermandad Sagrada: Muy respetada en todas las comunidades judías,preparan a las personas para la muerte y ofician su entierro.

Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah: La madurez de los jóvenes, 12 y 13 anos. Cuando los muchachos judios tienen 13 años tienen los derechos y obligaciones de un judio adulto incluyendo los mandamientos de la Torá. Es una gran fiesta para los jóvenes judios.

Los judíos llegaron al nuevo mundo en el primer viaje de Cristóbal Colón, desde España a América. Había al menos 6 judios en aquel primer viaje.

Hoy en dia, existen unos 300,000 judios en America Latina. Las mayores comunidades están en Argentina y Brasil. Argentina es la tercera comunidad judía más grande del mundo, después de Estados Unidos y Canadá. Bolivia también tuvo un importante número de judios . asi como Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, México y resto de países Hispanohablantes.

Los judíos han estado geográficamente dispersos, pero la cultura judía ha mantenido su unidad en Latinoamérica.

Voy a hablar sobre el significado, la función y cómo se usa la Torá

La Torá es el texto sagrado del pueblo judío. Los judíos creen que Dios le dijo a Moisés toda la Torá en el Monte Sinaí, y que Moisés escribió sus palabras exactas en lo que los judíos llaman la Torá. La Torá se refiere a los cinco libros de Moisés. Estos son: Génesis, Éxodo, Levítico, Números y Deuteronomio. Los judíos creen que la Torá muestra cómo Dios quiere que vivan. Contiene 613 mandamientos y los judíos se refieren a los más conocidos como las diez declaraciones.

Para los judíos, no hay "Antiguo Testamento". Los libros que los cristianos llaman el Nuevo Testamento no son parte de las escrituras judías. El Antiguo Testamento es conocido por los judíos como la Torá escrita o el Tanaj. Las escrituras que usamos en los servicios están escritas en pergaminos, y siempre están escritas a mano en atractiva caligrafía hebrea con "coronas" en muchas de las letras. No se supone que toques el pergamino en estos pergaminos; algunos dicen porque son demasiado santos;

algunos dicen porque el pergamino, hecho de pieles de animales, es una fuente de contaminación ritual; otros dicen porque el sudor de tus dedos tiene aceites que dañarán el pergamino con el tiempo. En cambio, se supone que los judíos deben seguir el texto con un puntero, llamado yad, que significa mano en hebreo. Es por eso que el puntero generalmente tiene la forma de una mano con un dedo índice que apunta.

Los pergaminos de la Torá se mantienen cubiertos con tela, y a menudo adornados con coronas de plata en las manijas de los pergaminos y un corazon de plata en la parte delantera. Los pergaminos se guardan en un gabinete en la sinagoga llamado un "arca", como en el Arca de la Alianza, no como en el Arca de Noé. Los pergaminos de la Torá que leemos en la sinagoga son texto sin puntas, sin vocales ni notas musicales, por lo que la capacidad de leer un pasaje de un pergamino es una habilidad valiosa, y por lo general requiere una preparación avanzada sustancial para cualquier intento de leer de él.

Conexiones Con Otro Blog.

El blog de Rabee y Michaels sobre la música y su efecto en América Latina es muy interesante y está conectado con nuestro blog. La influencia de la música española en América Latina se cruza con la cultura judía, especialmente a través del movimiento "Nueva Canción". Violeta Parra, una figura destacada de este movimiento, utilizó su música para abordar problemas sociales prevalentes en Chile, reflejando la lucha de la comunidad judía por los derechos y la igualdad. Artistas contemporáneos como Bad Bunny y Shakira continúan esta tradición. La canción de Bad Bunny "Estamos Bien" sirvió como homenaje a las víctimas de un devastador huracán en Puerto Rico, resonando profundamente en el diverso tapiz cultural de la isla, que incluye una importante población judía. De manera similar, los esfuerzos filantrópicos de Shakira a través de su fundación "Pies Descalzos" se alinean con los valores judíos de responsabilidad social, brindando ayuda a niños desfavorecidos en Colombia, mostrando así la fusión de la música y la herencia cultural para abogar por el cambio social, en resonancia con los valores judíos de "tikkun olam". (reparando el mundo). Esta integración de elementos culturales en la música española se convierte en un puente que refleja los valores y luchas compartidos de las diversas comunidades latinoamericanas, incluida la población judía, enfatizando el papel de la música como herramienta de promoción y cohesión social.

Conexión de otro Blog.

El blog de Ryan y Jared sobre la preservación del medio ambiente es en realidad muy similar a nuestro post. Mientras Jared y Ryan hablan sobre la preservación de la tierra, James y yo estamos tratando de mostrar lo importante que es hablar de la historia judía en América Latina. Estamos tratando de mostrar la importancia de preservar esta historia porque es muy importante para la comunidad judía en su conjunto. Además su post hablando de la belleza de la tierra en estos países se conecta a nuestro post porque James y yo estamos tratando de demostrar que a pesar de la cantidad de antisemitismo en el mundo la historia del pueblo judío en América Latina es increíble. Mi intención para este proyecto era no solo educar sino también encontrar algo que fuera importante para que mis compañeros de clase lo escucharan. Al igual que proteger el ambiente es importante, aprender sobre la historia de las diferentes etnias también es crucial. Especialmente cuando estudiar América latina en su conjunto tener un conocimiento de una gama es importante que los temas son importantes, que es otra manera en que nuestros posts son similares en su objetivo de educar a la clase, con estos temas muy importantes.
