Undoubtedly one of the best books I have read in a long time. Blue Twilight by Tess Thompson brings two people together 30 years after a horrific murder drove them apart. Unfortunately, the case has gone cold and is still tearing a family apart. Carlie wants answers and she is hoping to figure out once and for all what really happened and who killed her sister. Great suspense-mystery story with lots of secrets!

Mercedes couldn’t help but stifle a giggle as she watched Sylvain close his eyes. Her smile hiding behind her hand despite the fact that she knew he couldn’t see the corners of her mouth turn upwards. It was such a silly thing, with how they put on the theatrics with each other to get a laugh out of the other. This was one of the many things that made Mercedes love Sylvain, among the many other things that they had in common.

She took a few steps closer, waving her hand slightly in front of his face to make sure he was making good on his word. It was then that her cheeks began to dust with pink with what she was about to do next. Taking his face in her hands, Mercedes gently brought him down to her level, placing a sweet kiss to his lips. It wasn’t long, but it was one that she had begun to smile into.

Though Mercedes didn’t stop there, she pressed a kiss to his nose and forehead with as much gentleness as before. When she was finished with her trail of kisses, she continued to keep her hands on either side of his face.“There, now you may go on your patrol. Each kiss was for good luck, after all.” She smiled.

Mercedes pondered for a moment, “Well, let’s see…” She began, “There are a lot of things that I like about you, Sylvain. Though I’m sure you think that I don’t have much to say.” There was no malice or ill will in her voice, almost as though she were stating a fact. She knew by now how his mind worked in cruel ways and always wanted to remedy that.

“You are very smart, I knew I could go to you if I had trouble on an assignment. Always willing to help take time out of your day to help me understand the problem.” Her smile grew as she folded her hands in front of her. “And while you are rightfully cautious, you have a big heart that you just aren’t able to give away so easily. I know I can always come to you to talk about anything and you will always make it sound like it’s your best kept secret.”

“And you’re a wonderful friend. I don’t consider myself close to many people, but next to Annie, you’re one of my closest friends. You’re very dear to me, Sylvain and I keep your friendship close to my heart.”

Mercedes laughed into her pillow, rolling over on their pile of blankets that they had made on the floor. She brushed her fluffy hair out of her face as she made a reach for her phone. As she scrolled through her phone, she bumped shoulders with Sylvain.

“Oh!” Mercedes looked back over towards her friend with a smile. “Why don’t we try to find ones that we want the other to read? That way it will be a surprise!” She settled back onto her pillow as she began to scroll through some stories on one of the ghost forums. It always made her happy when she was able to talk about the spooky and unknown with Sylvain. Considering he was one of the only friend that she had who wouldn’t freak out about it (Annette still wouldn’t watch scary movies with her).

She finally found a good one. It was about a man who had brought his mystery lover with him and his family to another land. She was then kept in a secret room before being inevitably forgotten about and left there when he had to go to war. “Here, this one looks interesting! You go first, I always like it when you read them out loud.”

Really, she should have been paying attention to the young man next to her. Though it wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for people to be able to sneak up on her. Sometimes she would just get so engrossed in her task that it was hard to take in the rest of her surroundings. Annette and Ingrid would often scold her for the lack of attention, but Mercedes hardly paid any mind to it.

Then again, Sylvain at least kept her on her toes. Having been so excited to tell him about the new ghostly tales book she found in the market, Mercedes was unaware that he had already been looking through the rest of her bought items. It wasn’t until she felt the smooth texture of what she can only guess was lip color, on her cheek.

“Sylvain, what on earth are you…” Her brows furrowed as she began to register what exactly he had been drawing. A bell of giggles came shortly after as Mercedes turned to look at her friend. It would appear that he was quite proud of his artwork. Though she quickly turned the tables as she plucked the lip color from his hand. “I think it’s only fair that we both share our each other’s artwork.”

She wasn’t surprised that he sat still for it, but she made quick with her hand regardless. Drawing two lines on either cheek and a dot on his nose, letting out more laughter after she had finished. “There. Now you look like a cute little fox.” She smiled.
