I did know about this exhibit when it was running, thanks to "Remembering the Franklin Expedition" Facegroup group—which is a great source of information once you ignore the crackpots and stupid questions—but had no way to get to NYC in time, so I love seeing pictures from those lucky people who saw it in person!
That print of relics is super cool!! I don't think I've seen the ulu knife made from a Franklin Expedition object before! The book with an illustration of a surreal Arctic landscape looks intriguing.

Interesting things about the Cold Boys' families
I thought the Terror enjoyers might find some of this neat and/or horribly depressing. I only did genealogy research on Gore, Tozer, Leys, and Armitage, the rest are thanks to a collaborative effort on RtFE.
1. Graham Gore's neice and nephew got together and had 3 kids. The Gores were one of the first Australian settlers, so, uh... Maybe there's not many other folk around? Either way, it's real awkward.
2. The Armitage family has a strong naval tradition; amongst the many, many Armitages who were in the navy, his grandson died at sea while serving in Gibraltar. Poor guy.
3. William Gibson's father is apparently literally named Steward. Talk about nominative determinism.
4. Henry Collins' father, Henry Sr, was forcibly confined against his will multiple times at mental asylums; he claimed that his institutionalization was a ploy his family made to cut him out of Henry Jr.'s inheritence.
5. The whole Cornelius Hickey debacle gets worse as someone recently found a newspaper clipping listing his father as "Denis Hickey," and another as "Mr. Hickie." Aside from the spelling variations, none of the 3 Cornelius Hickeys that could've been him (baptized in Limerick at around the same time) had a father named Denis, meaning we now have a 4th potential candidate. Oddly in-character
6. The last of the Des Voeux baronets (A title somewhere between "Knight" and "Baron," basically) died in ww2.
7. One of Solomon Tozer's massive, massive amount of siblings is Charlie Wilson (not his birth name,) an early transgender figure who ran away from an abusive marriage and proceeded to become a semi-successful painter who racked up a decent amount of girlfriends (and arrests!) over the years. Good for him!

It’s a common issue when trying to start up your application. Something goes wrong, there’s a load of trace on the console, and you need to try to work out what could be the problem. There’s are various cognitive biases that affects our ability to resolve these problems. We often expect the thing we last did to be the cause of the problem. We can theorise wildly about how the machine must be processing our request, and when it goes wrong, start to follow our wild theories, rather than zero in on the actual problem. Frequently, when I encounter a period of wild guessing, the solution is staring me in the face. What does the error message actually say!? Now, it’s not necessarily a case of what errors do we have? Often, there are loads of them, and the errors frequently point to the wild theories we’ve been wasting time on. The more important point is What does THE error message say? There’s usually one very important error message in the output which gives us the clue. And it’s usually not the most obvious one. And there are usually more flamboyant ones which grab your attention and distract you from the important one… which may even be a warning. Breaking out of the Loop If the wild theories, guesswork and voodoo haven’t worked, then it’s time to take a moment’s pause. Look at all the errors in the output Try to understand the network of errors – which ones are secondary, where’s the root cause? Look at the wording, maybe even look at the code that throws that particular error Consider how to test with a different scenario where that error could never occur Simplify the set up, so that something simpler goes right, so you can build back up to the full scenario, with more idea of which increment makes it start to go wrong If you’re working with decent technology, the errors should give you more clues than it first appears they do; they should help you. Should being the key word here! Making It Easy On Ourselves Of course this implies that we need to be more careful with throwing errors, checking inputs and logging things in our apps. If we don’t, then we ONLY have guesswork to fall back on when we’re debugging them.
