Absolutely ecstatic to have found my first eyed hawkmoth today! A species I've been waiting to see for years. This moth uses it dappled colouration to hide from predators during the day, and flashes its colourful ocelli (eyespots on the hind wings) when threatened - a perfect blend of crypsis and aposematism! The recent rough weather has brought numbers of Manx shearwater relatively close to the reserve today, along with even more gannets.
