I add female mercs into the comic series because I want to be diverse with the gender roles? I don't think i like having my comics purely made out of masculine characters only, I want to add feminine characters to balance it out, and maybe some gender neutral ones too (like Crona from Soul Eater)

with the current genderbend concerns, i wanted to share another perspective, still from a trans individual.

i believe the reason people get upset over genderbent characters is because it’s stereotyping what makes a man and a woman (women having long hair with a defining figure, men with short hair and a tall build), when trans people don’t always align with these ‘standards’.

i do think it’s a double edged sword, there’s many pieces of media that are actually worthy of having fingers pointed at for being offensive. you’re an independent artist making content for a fandom on your own accord, whilst being very respectful about it and willing to take feedback. i think this speaks bounds about your intentions and care towards your audience.

i do not think there is anything wrong with your content.

Oh, I see, that makes more sense.. I once have a gender-bent version of Scout with a pixie haircut, trying to make her look more tomboyish. I also give her shorts because I don't think it's effective to run in a skirt at all. I don't think the usual femscout design is practical or good enough to me, so I make my own version of her. Unfortunately, I have fallen for femsniper's design, she's too gorgeous. I'm sorry, I'm down bad.

I want to believe that the anonymous(es) were just suggesting, it is up to me if I want to listen to them or not, they don't intend to force me to change my story. I did tag my posts as cw genderbend now though so they don't have to see my comics on their dashboard anymore, I just don't understand why genderbending is harmful and it makes me wonder if I was giving people gender dysphoria through my artworks.

There are some supportive and opposing asks in my messages so I want to thank everyone for taking the time to send me an ask to help me understand.

About W, my OC, she can be trans or cis according to the reader's interpretation, because I just want to portray the experience of a woman being in the line for a job mainly for males by most people, W has the "breaking the stereotype" kind of story. I don't usually give my character "a gender" unless it's necessary for their story to make sense like Alex (very early stage of ftm) and Mark(born as a male, but raised as a girl because his family wants a daughter, giving him a gender crisis at some point).

but I wouldn't say that W is a "gender-bent" version of the sniper, she's an OC. Much like any other female OC there is. Her hair colour is different, I don't plan to have her long hair stay for long.

I think I can see why because she resembles the Canon sniper a lot. I don't know why is gender-bent triggering for some people but I'll tag it for the sake of your own comfort. I apologise.

They have matching voice lines.

8/10 relationship dynamic. Demoman is always questioning whatever the fuck sniper is up to but still, he 100% supports it because he's a bf (bestfriend/boyfriend). I can see them casually giving each other a platonic smooch on the cheeks after winning a match.

Also, Swordvan sounds like a cool metal band.

I imagine them in a queer-platonic relationship where the border between romantic and platonic is extremely blurred, they might end up getting married and still have no clue if they are a couple or not but is happy to have each other and that's hilarious.

im really bad at stylizing a character while actually having it look like the character if u kno what i mean- you do it SO well in ur tf2 art!!!! any tips? especially for facial shapes n stuff

Let's start off with the support class.

My biggest and most important tips from personal experience is to use tf2 comic as reference. I've seen people use 3d models too but the comics help me more.

Take some time and redraw some panels from it because that was what I did when i first drew the mercenaries. Then afterwards, i slowly develop my own style.

Sniper/Spy?

10/10 relationship dynamic and I should sleep.

Sniper and spy have a very, complicated relationship that is very hard to put into words. They're not entirely close but are comfortable enough to share personal secrets with each other but they aren't close. But it's the sense of knowing both of them can keep a secret well that makes them feel comfortable sharing their most vulnerable thoughts.

I've been wanting to draw this comic out for a while to illustrate their relationship but

SPY " Bushman. " SNIPER " Yeah? " SPY " Are you... " (gay?) SNIPER " Yeah. " SPY " Do they know? " (your parents) SNIPER " No. I don't want to make them, disappointed. " SPY, OFFERING HIM A CIGARETTE " I see. I'm sure they don't mind, considering you have this ridiculous job. " SNIPER, ACCEPTS THE OFFER " Yours is no bettah. " SPY " Of course. "

Their conversation is usually short, there are more quiet times than actual talking (as if they can read each other thoughts) but it's longer when they're actively trying to insult each other (like in the comic). They have mutual respect for each other. I'll stop here for now.

favourite moment would be the spy comforting scout as tom jones, that’s lovely. I also love that one moment where medic tricked the devil, it was hilarious.
