Crystal Palace struggled in front of goal in their most recent match against Sheffield United, an aspect of their play that has been an all too familiar theme this season. It is the ninth time they have drawn a blank in the Premier League this campaign, leaving the Eagles bottom of the table when it comes to goals scored, with 22. Jordan Ayew sits as their top scorer on six goals while Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke have disappointed with three and zero league goals respectively. To make matters worse, Roy Hodgson let go of a striker in the summer who is now really beginning to find his feet and prove that such a decision was an error of judgement from the manager – Alexander Sorloth. The Norway international has spent the year on loan at Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, and on Saturday he scored against Fenerbahce to take his season goal tally to 19. There, he has 16 goals from 19 league games in what has been a brilliant opportunity for the 24-year-old to showcase his qualities, and that has sparked discussion amongst Palace supporters. Some have blamed Hodgson’s poor tactics for not getting the best out of Sorloth during his spell at Selhurst Park, while others suggest it is typical of the club not to get the best out of strikers. Here is some of the reaction to the striker scoring yet again this term. Good for him. Not a single palace fan would have wanted him to stay at the time — Stephen Nash (@cerronash) February 1, 2020 Fans slated him whilst he was here. Wonder if those same people have a little regret now — Nick Sadler (@nicksadler62) February 1, 2020 Different level all together. That said, Hodgson’s tactics are not conduscive to providing strikers with decent service. — Tony Peters (@thattonypeters) February 1, 2020 That’s typical Palace…. — Ben (@BenIAgbaimoni) February 1, 2020 He just doesn’t fit into our style of play, unfortunately for us — TheWiseNOLAman (@NoLAWise2017) February 1, 2020 If Roy wasn’t so bad at his job, he’d most likely be banging them in for us — Seat #163🦅 (@TeaglesTcoyp) February 1, 2020 No striker would do well in our system, we create nothing, strikers feed off scraps, we never dominate, it’s pathetic — James Taylor (@MR___JT) February 1, 2020 We ruin strikers. It’s what we do. — Gooders (@RobGooders) February 1, 2020 Do you miss Sorloth? Roy Hodgson wants Crystal Palace to emulate Fulham by pursuing the same seventh-placed finish that took his former club into Europe. The Palace manager memorably led Fulham to the 2010 Europa League final, having similarly been appointed to rescue them from a battle against relegation that they had once seemed destined to lose. His team on Saturday begin their Premier League season at Craven Cottage, where Hodgson is still fondly remembered, and he recognises how similar the circumstances are to those he was working in 10 years ago. Having successfully secured survival in 2008, Fulham proved themselves the finest outside of a powerful top-six group the following season and Hodgson believes Palace can do likewise this term. . . . . . #RoyHodgson #CrystalPalace #CPFC #PL #PremierLeague #CrystalPalaceFC (at Crystal Palace Football Club)

Crystal Palace fans struggled to compose themselves during their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, understandably being left angered at their team’s lack of ability. It was one decision, in particular, from manager Roy Hodgson that almost sent some supporters over the edge. In the 64th minute, he decided to bring Max Meyer off, a player who had been playing out of position on the flank. On in his place came Jeffrey Schlupp. The consolation was that it would at least get a wide player attacking down the channels but it didn’t please Palace supporters one bit. A fan couldn’t help but think of relegation with their reaction whilst another told the club to liquidate. Hodgson’s substitute was deemed an awful decision by a further individual as one supporter was concerned by the lack of common sense. Watch Crystal Palace Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below Palace struggled to find much rhythm as striker Christian Benteke was restricted to just one shot. The result was hardly surprising given the fact that Meyer wasn’t playing in his favoured number ten role. It was a decision that meant star man Wilfried Zaha played alongside the big Belgian as the Eagles failed to find the back of the net. Here’s what Palace fans said when Meyer was taken off. Why not switch Meyer in the middle and take Mcarthur off or is that common sense — Thomas Gothard (@ThomasGothard) August 18, 2019 Just announce relegation — Michæl? Crystal Palace have announced the departure of assistant manager Sammy Lee following the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the club’s new boss. Lee was initially named assistant under Sam Allardyce in January before taking up the same role during Frank de Boer’s brief tenure at Selhurst Park. The Dutchman was sacked after just 77 days in charge at Palace and replaced by former England boss Hodgson on Tuesday. Lee, who has had two spells working on England’s coaching staff, has been replaced by Ray Lewington. Orlando Trustfull, brought in by De Boer also as an assistant manager, and Ryland Morgans, who was head of performance, have also left the Premier League strugglers. A statement on the club’s website read: “We would like to thank Orlando, Sammy and Ryland for their efforts during their time in south London, and wish them all the very best for the future.” Palace have moved to beef up their backroom staff with the appointment of former Republic of Ireland midfielder Steven Reid as a first-team coach. The 36-year-old has worked on the Reading coaching staff for the past two years after joining them from Burnley following his retirement from playing. . . . . . #sammylee #crystalpalace #cpfc #crystalpalacefc #premierleague #pl #royhodgson (at Selhurst Park Football Stadium)
