There are many, many "official" TV Mai Tai recipes, and this is one of them, found randomly on the internet. Vic would tweak the Mai Tai many times over the years based on what rums were available, the venue, etc. This appears to be a particularly potent variation (a bit more rum than usual, and a bit light on the other ingredients), but I thought the letter was interesting.

It’s hard to imagine what Arne’s Royal Hawaiian Motel once looked like.

It closed in 2009, after over 50 years in business. 14 years of abandonment and vandalism has left it as a shell of its former self. At one point, the 43-room motel offered air conditioning, color TV, kitchenettes, two pools and a tennis court. Today, the remaining structures have been partially burned, looted and covered with graffiti.

Located in Baker, California, the motel’s midcentury postcard states that this area is “the gateway to Death Valley” and is the halfway point between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Source

I can’t believe I’ll be on my way to see mountains and giant trees via a train (Sequoia/kings canyon National park) in less than a day, but I’m already missing some things at home. They’re in good hands though!

New kitty Frida had her vet appointment yesterday and did great. Double cat drama can resume post vacation. Wish me luck, and I will return with big tree memories in September!

Queen Lydia Lili’uokalani (Kaʻiulani's aunt) 

Kaʻiulani's aunt was the last reigning monarch of Hawaii. Queen Lydia Liliʻu Loloku Walania Kamakaʻeha ruled from  January 29, 1891, until the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom by a coalition of American businessmen, led by Sanford Dole, on January 17, 1893. The composer of "Aloha ʻOe" and numerous other works, she wrote her autobiography Hawaiʻi's Story by Hawaiʻi's Queen during her imprisonment following the coup.
