Monday morning. 9 AM and my body was already buzzing with the overwhelming taste of coffee. It went down piping hot, just the way I liked it, and I could still feel it simmering in my belly. Today though, it didn't jolt my mind awake or shake the sleep from my muscles like usual, instead the caffeine sat at the bottom of my stomach and made me feel jittery; on edge as I stared at the error message displayed on my screen.

'warniing. proceediing wiith the operatiion 'delete' wiill era2e the content2 of your hard driive. what do you wii2h to do?' Two options were laid out before my fatigue-ridden-this-is-way-too-early-in-the-morning-to-deal-with-this-shit eyes. 'proceed.' and 'delete.'

"Whaaaat theeee fuuuuck." I groaned, my voice some kind of cross over between Chewbacca and an angry Soccer Mom who's kid's losing the "big game"'. Fingers flew across the keyboard, furiously punching letters and trying to manually cancel the pop up, bring up 'Run', shut the computer down, pretty much anything than follow along with the absurd on-screen instructions. After a good 5 minutes the system seemed to be rebooting, the crappy 2000 Windows XP screen loading. Typical school computer. It was painfully slow compared to the sleek desktop waiting for me at home but laptops didn't come cheap and by the looks of my bank funds I'd be suffering through the same loading screen for another few years. 

As the sign-in screen shone to life in a trademark Microsoft blue, I let out a sigh of relief. And then went on to say about 50 different curse words under my breath. The blaring words displayed in front of my sleep deprived retinas replaced all the caffeine I'd ever need in a lifetime. I was wide awake now.

"Wow, that was fast. I had a feeling you'd go straight to the source. Did'ja get your files back?" Sollux teased in his familiar lisp, calmly turning towards me on his dumb rotating office chair. He must've brought it himself because every time I saw him in the computer lab he was sitting in it and whenever he wasn't it was gone. 

"No, but I had this weird feeling you already knew that." I responded just as coolly, slamming my foot down on his armrest and flicking the end of my scarf across my shoulder. No more Missus Nice Girl. "Now you had better have some way of gettin' my files back buddy." I made sure my voice was the polar oppposite of happy-go-lucky cheery Roxy. 

An awkward silence engulfed the room for 5.2 seconds before the choppy haired doofus handed over a floppy disk.

"It was just a joke, okay?" He snorted. 

"Who even uses floppy disks any more I mean seriously man..." I grumbled under my breath, inspecting it for defects. Then I said, louder, "And that other pop up last week on the principal's computer was a joke then too, right?" 

Sollux grinned proudly. "You bet."

As I transferred all my documents back over onto the computer I started thinking. Not pretty lil kitten things either. This was war now. No one messed with Roxy Lalonde's computer and got away with it. 

I checked all of my defenses. They all seemed to be up and running but since that cheeky little bastard got in there had to be a breach, and hopefully he'd left traces I could backtrack and then hack my way in with. Now was the time to see just what Sollux Captor was made of.

Just as I got to checking the firewall, the most obvious and basic defense, as obvious and basic as the stone walls of a castle, the bell rung. The librarian gave me a funny look when I didn't make any notion of moving. Next class was History and I already knew from experience there was no way in hell the teacher was going to let me out for computer work. He barely even acknowledged there was this thing called the Internet out there. 

Hopefully Sollux would go to class though, blissfully unaware of the program I was coding. I was determined to dismember, rearrange, royally fuck up, and then repair so that everything was as it seemed.

The hacked computer was only an excuse though and I knew it. I had been waiting for something to happen between the two of us, some sort of spark of interest. All through out computer class in Middle School everyone was always talking about some Sollux guy who had blown up a school computer once, had built his own computer was scratch, and had straight A's in all the technology courses. He was practically a legend and I'd been waiting two years to finally get to meet him and maybe even challenge him. I hated to admit it but back then he was kind of an inspiration, this standard I was always chasing and holding myself up to. 

And then I'd met him. For some dumb reason I'd even thought that maybe we'd be friends or that he'd want to be meet me too. What a laugh. 

I pushed the memories far out of my mind as I concentrated fully on the code in front of me.

 Drawing hasn't been my thing for a very long time, so I'm still amazed I did this. Sorry about any awkwardness in limb placement. I didn't even know I shipped this, but apparently I have feels. o_O

Ballpoint pen, Infinite Painter on my phone and Photofiltre were all used in this travesty.  Infinite Painter crashes way too much, sadly, or I'd have had it done sooner.
