I’d add that many modern constructions of nationalism are based on and inextricable from INTERPRETATIONS of deeply held cultural identities and practices that are thousands of years old as well as the aspects of culture that are inescapable panopticons - language, food, agriculture, religion etc. That coexists in a complicated manner with the fact the nation state is a modern concept. there are a few hundreds nation states on earth and thousands of ethnic groups. There is simply no way to universally allow for a nation state as an inalienable aspect of self determination that’s internationally codified without some of the borders of those nation states stepping on the borders of others. The sooner everyone could be a big boy about this

@rotzaprachim so. I just did a breaking bad rewatch and could not stop thinking abt a few of ur old posts abt how it’s a drama made like a comedy. I think that’s what makes it so brilliant yk? Tv shows never show the like. Stumbling we all do over our words in every day things. They never show us fucking up tasks really stupidly and having to do it again. They never show us being all clumsy w our words while angry but trying to sound eloquent. Breaking bad did all those things and it made it feel so much more real and human. That’s part of what made gus feel so threatening. He seemed so ACTUALLY put together in a sea of bumbling chaos. He felt like what tv shows make people seem like in a world of actual people. Fucking brilliant.

@rotzaprachim - I took a ww1 overview course and it’s my special interest. I’ve written fics that deal extensively with this conundrum since I adored the ww1 vibes of KOS/ROW and especially think Nikolai’s trauma needed better handling.

ok so it’s been a while and i only saw the first 1.5 seasons i think but if i’m thinking beyond the aesthetics (although tbh he’s older but a lot of the aesthetics… work) for my middler-aged 1920′s period drama kaz comparison it’s actually gereon rath from babylon berlin. like first off volker bruch’s performance is phenomenal (i think cillian murphy is a great actor who’s increasingly given little to do on peaky) and second off i think that beyond the aesthetics that specific character’s like. deep mix of loneliness and trauma and knife-edge balance between control and destruction in regards to his PTSD (i’m pretty sure they have a realllly similar backstory thing too) and relationship to charlotte just like…. feel so much more distinctly kaz to me
