Rosquez horror mermaid AU snippet :)

They lie - as they do every night - entangled together in Valentino’s canopy-bed. Valentino had made Marc get a bath earlier, to warm his skin. Marc is just too cold to the touch, otherwise.  

Valentino’s head is on Marc’s chest, he listens to the syncopated slow rhythm of Marc's hearts. He counts the seconds between tumps, first one, then the other. Marc wraps an arm around him, holds Valentino close. He absentmindedly cards a hand through Valentino’s hair, coils soft curls around his fingertips as he breathes in Vale’s scent. 

Marc inhales deeply, Valentino floats with the movement. He croons softly - places his teeth around Marc’s collarbone, latches on tenderly. He imagines Marc is like an anglerfish, a benthic creature luring - dragging - Vale down deeper and deeper. Marc had gotten to him like a riptide. 

Marc places his hand under Valentino’s chin and pulls him up, gently, into a kiss. Valentino focuses on the scrape of Marc’s knifelike nails near his throat. He runs his tongue along Marc’s dentition and feels the sting.   

“Marc,” he tries to sound calm, composed, but it comes out apprehensive. “Have you ever eaten a person?” 

Marc lets out a breathless laugh, like the question is completely absurd. Because it is.

Marc smiles at his swain, warmly - and Valentino is doing that thing again, were he tries to count all of Marc's teeth 

“Vale, my sweet, of course I have.” 

Like an anchor, Valentino’s heart sinks in his chest. 

“I am a mermaid after all.”

Dani is the one cursed, so he goes to Jorge because that's his only and true rival. So they kiss and because Dani didn't felt anything, he did again and again and again. They spent the whole night kissing and nothing happened.

And then by the morning when Dani is frustrated and pacing frantically around the motorhome Jorge finally asks what was all about.

'I was cursed' confesses Dani.

'Oh and a true love kiss breakes it. Makes sense a lot of sense you came to me' aproves Jorge. Dani turns around to look at him as if he had grown a second head.

'No you damn idiot. It's supposed to be the kiss of my enemy.' Now Jorge is the one surprised.

'You know that I like you, right? I was trying to flirt with yo. Also make you mad because you turn adorable' Jorge closes his eyes for a moment and then ask 'why did you thought I was your enemy? You are only my rival, but also the one I want to kiss after winning a race'. When the younger open his eyes, Dani is gapping for air.

'You.. no... rival...' the older one stays silent for a moment before closing his eyes and sight. 'Jorge that doesn't make sense. You are always fighting with me. You are always being annoyed, how that's flirting? How does that show you are in love with me?'.

'It's called pulling the tails of the girl you like. You know when a little boy likes a little girl they do that' now Jorge has one of his grinds on his face.

'Except we are adults and both guys. Jorge it doesn't make sense. Just forget what happened yesterday. Forget I was ever here' and the Honda rider left the room.

And to to it, Dani took the whole 2011 to realize that maybe he's also in love with Jorge.

I love this whole "reversed prompt list" going around, because some of them are just truly gold and half of them can be very easily applied to some of my ships. So I propose:

Rosquez "True hate's kiss": The only way to break the curse layed onto Valentino, is to kiss the person, that hates him most in the entire world. So he goes and kisses Marc, because it has to be him right?

Marc is just happy, that Vale is there and even kissed him, maybe there is still hope? And he drags Vale inside the motorhome and well you know. The next morning though, Vale wakes up, but the curse isn't broken and to make things worse, he just woke up next to Marc again the thing he thought would never happen again.

He freaks out and Marc wakes up, asking him to come back to bed, but then realising, that Vale freaking out is always going to mean something bad.

"It didn't work. I kissed you and it didn't work. I am still cursed. I kissed my biggest enemy and it didn't work."

"I was never your enemy."

Analysis of Why Valentino Cares So Much

So, I know I write a lot of fanfiction, but perhaps my favorite thing about Rosquez is the psychology of Valentino, specifically his bizarre fascination with Marc (This is outside of shipping goggles btw). As the years go on, this fixation with one specific rivalry has become increasingly more clear, and I kind of just wanted to dive into why I believe Valentino Rossi cares so much.

To me, it comes down to two things:

#1: Marc was the first to really win (in Valentino's eyes)

With Stoner, Lorenzo, and Sete it was a rivalry for sure, and there was anger, but Valentino seemed to view it as sort of a game he could control. And he did control it, he came out the victor both to the public and on track. When they eventually got over their rivalries years later, it was Valentino being a 'benevolent king' with the vibe of sparing his enemy. Even if they beat him in the championship, ultimately Valentino won the game of relevance and importance in MotoGP. With Marc it was slightly different. Valentino got the entire racing world to turn against Marc (in a way he never had before with other rivals), and yet somehow it didn’t work. Marc kept on winning, he brushed off the hate, and he’s well on his way to matching Valentino is championships next year. Even if Marc's reputation never recovered, even if we know that Marc was very hurt by this, none of it matters because he is the more relevant one now. Marc is still riding, is on the currently best team (a team that Valentino failed to bring a championship to) and each year more and more people view him in a better light.

On top of that, Marc's name is up there with Valentino's as one of the legends in MotoGP history. Stoner, Sete, and Lorenzo are all brilliant drivers and some of the greats, but that top list is Agostini, Doohan, Rossi, and Marquez. Valentino is arguably still more legendary than Marc, but he will never be able to escape from the younger man. Their names are up there together forever, and to Valentino that is a first with a rival. He cannot look at any of it and say that he won, so it must mean he lost.

#2 Marc was the first to actually hurt him personally.

With Marc he clearly felt in some way personally betrayed. He liked Marc, this is almost undeniable. He was proud of him, he cheered him on, they hung out, honestly Marc was almost an unofficial VR46 student with the way their relationship was in those early days. Yes, Marc represented a passing of the torch, but Valentino almost seemed okay with it at that point. Until he became competitive again and found out that Marc doesn't just look up to him or admire him, but wants to beat him, point blank, and will ride on the limit to do that. This came in 2014, but honestly I don't think is was as prominent because Marc had such a dominant season it was hardly a real fight. 2015 though, it was Valentino really fighting for the title. And he probably expected Marc to bend the knee, to be on his side. Maybe not help him, but not impede him in any way. But they had their friction throughout the year, and the fact that Marc was racing him just as hard as he races everyone else got into Valentino's head. Because Marc was supposed to be on his side. So if he's not, he must be against Valentino and for Jorge Lorenzo. There is no in between.

So he lashed out, he let paranoia hit him, and yet somehow he still didn't get satisfaction. Because even though he did his best to hurt Marc, the other man barely seemed to flinch (which we all know isn't true, but to Valentino I think it is). And that would be particularly rough, because it would mean Marc didn't care. That all of that friendship was one-sided on Valentino's part, that he was the one used, which to someone like him, who always has control, would be new and very very uncomfortable. And so he created this narrative that Marc never liked him, Marc never looked up to him, everything was a lie and a manipulation, and he is a villain with no heart. Because I think to Valentino it is impossible to even act like he doesn't still care. So if Marc can do that, it must mean all of it was fake.

To me these two reasons are why Valentino can't seem to let go of this one particular rivalry, and seems so viciously angry about it ten years after the biggest incident happened. His crazy brain fascinates me, and even if you look at it through a purely platonic, non-shipper lens, its one of the most interesting relationships in MotoGP.

IS HE GOING TO CONTACT MARC? like he's is nottttt contacting the devil pleaseeee he's is getting Off that bike and Getting That Surgery. like pregnancy au he is trying to convince everyone he's virgin mary he is joking to everyone this is due to his feelings for his unfulfilled 10th championship he is deluding himself into believing its NOT for marc. but if they decide to keep it they are NOT telling each other vale is finding marc fainted in a bathroom toilet with petals scattered around him aesthetically and there's a whole blood stained flower next to his mouth laying on the marble slated floors like a painting at the yearly gala (alex is. indisposed for unclear fanfiction plot reason. don't ask) marc is finding out through gossip sites he is committing corporate espionage he is bribing the yamaha doctors to find out whats happening and why vale is so sick. reconciliation is not happening without a major MAJOR intervention and honestly aus are such a fun way to imagine what could have been.......

ALSO! i love imagining rosquez in situations bc they are both so fucked up no one have even a close to normal reaction about itttttttt. i DOOOO think however that if the surgery makes the person lose feelings FOREVER it might be different..... marc who loves SO deeply and SO hard and is (in my head) a romantic at heart never being able to feel again...... vale. who makes decisions from his hearttttt (ducati. just to name one) losing all feelings FOREVER! well i don't think any of them would take it. but then again would ANY sane person take it .? also I've never been able to figure it out like do the flowers just never stop growing once theyve appeared? would therapy help.... what even happens when they find out the feelings are reciprocated ? flowers just magically disappear? like PERSONALLY i think having a recovery period where the flowers roots (symbolising the DISTRUST the BELIEF that the s/o doesn't have feelings for them) detach themselves from the lungs thru constant repetition of their loveeeee (whump!!!!!! hurt comfort!!!!!! #putmenthroughkidnappingsagain2024) and they have to cough up their remaining flowers in order to start healinggggg is SO fun. i love pain :)

all this to say i think more people on here should start writing hanahaki aus there's one fic on ao3 that FUCKS but also hasn't been updated since 2018.... ao3 user zjemciciastko if ur still on here and still alive dm me.... i love u...

I HATE ALL MY WORK THIS IS HARD WHAT

1.) OK I guess first is this Flintwood one (Marcus Flint x Oliver Wood from Harry Potter) that I wrote years back.

They are one of my biggest OTPs still to this day, and this fic really kicked off me getting back into writing so I have a soft spot for it.

2.) Probably my Brocedes florist x tattooist crack!fic is next. I've never had so much fun writing a fic in my life. Gotta love that Brocedes drama/angst.

3.) My Rosquez fic needs a mention, they're another huge OTP of mine. This one was pure self-indulgence for me, it's mostly just pwp but I had to have that special Rosquez brand of angst in there too.

4.) I feel I have to mention my most recent fic, my Sebchal. I adore this pairing and I don't think I've ever poured so much time and effort into writing a fic before!

5.) This last one was a struggle to pick but I'm going with my Sabriel (Sam Winchester x Gabriel from SPN) fic. This one was another beast to write but I have nothing but fond feelings for it.

i LOVE when people ask me to solve the rosquez breakup... put me in coach i could fix them. ignore all of the times i have used my mind palace to make them worse. ummmm i think (grain of salt) it would depend on a myriad of discrete circumstances. as @frogsonabike recently posted i think if marc passes vale's title total no way in hell until they are very old men. and even then only if theyre all at some gala and its like. a bit they are doing for a crowd. and dani and jorge bullied them into it. MAYBE. old man rosquez... racing their walkers....

outside of thatttttt i could see a slow reconciliation like. post retirement for both of them (actually i think @whatwepostintheshadows pioneered this school of thought. a scholar in the field.) the ISSUE would be getting them into the same place. ALTHOUGH as we have seen in portimao recently that literally may not be as much of a problem as we think, as they are addicted to fucking around on motorcycles. like in my brain i am literally always running the simulation of how we can get them over this hill bc they are so clearly obsessed with each other and carrying the other around like a weight around their neck or a wound that refuses to heal!!! they need it for their HEALTH yknow... so i could see them just. consistently bumping into each other on race weekends post-retirement. maybe luca and alex are teammates or smth like that and so they have to share some space when they visit the paddock. and at first its tense and they try and ignore each other but then marc hears vale make a joke from across the room... honks that big laugh of his... and vale floats over to him as the day goes on, wanting the attention despite himself (they still have the chemistry!!!! fuck!!!). presses his shoulder against marc's when alex does a risky overtake and his posture locks up... hand on the small of his back. spending the day talking about racing until they realize its okay to talk about other things....

Vale knows Marc will fully move on from him once they talk and his controlling self can't have marc not being haunted by his ghost.

IT RULES ! fr they both have publicly been like yeah. it is a deep wound inside me that i think about way too often... still making public statements about it entirely without duress and of their own volition VERY recently. a narrative they could let die but it simply means too much to them. and in lots of ways it’s a way to be close. to relate to each other. to be singular in each other’s imaginings and in the eyes of the world. gone girl voice i’m the cunt you married. like vale has lost other titles badly! marc has pissed other people off! but it’s different with each other… and they categorically and eternally find themselves unable to let each other go. it’s literally a way for them to stay together.

vale is truly the biggest bad bitch fumbler! imagine almost a decade later the sport you hold so dear that you built your legacy in is like “hey so about that bad bitch you fumbled years ago”. you will never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you old man!!! im not even a petty person but if i were marc i Would Want that sound to follow him. let the knife twist every so often to keep the wound open if you will. maybe over time the amount of hurt will make the scales even! i feel like the idea of evenness/fairness in their relationship is a common thread yk?

Okay I was watching Qatar 2013 for the rosquez of it all and they were so touchy and I thought is there an au were they hooked up during the pre season and that’s why they are so comfortable together already maybe they didn’t even hook up yet but they are touchy (insert vale saying he’s touchy off track so maybe it’s the same on track when him Dani and Jorge were asked about the contact Marc had had with them at different races) and vale is queuing in on Marc’s massive crush and goes after you win a race I’ll sleep with you think if it like a prize. like I’m not sure if that’s a possible au but i just went omg the possibilities if it did happen.

EYE think its like. okay fanfiction land lets goooo wheeee. a branch off of the iconic winners room concept, but this time its whenever someone gets promoted to the premiere class they get to choose someone to FUCK after their first race. like they MUST ! the sport is too horny not to ! court mandated ! and well. you know who marc was gonna pick (literally its been on his motivational vision board since he was umm. 14). and vale's not stupid and is also VERY assured in his sex appeal so he ALSO knows who marc is gonna pick (hes actually been picked by new guys a LOT at this point its old hat. little does he know about the life changing power. of marc's wap.) and its just some fun! here at the beginning of things ! so the entire race (with marc and vale spending a LOTTTTT of time battling it out on track and having cheeky little skirmishes the entire time) its like. the most insane, adrenaline soaked foreplay. exhilarating. truly when you dont know someone that well but you like them SO much and you KNOWWWW youre getting laid later. its vale putting BOTH hands literally on marc's WAIST from BEHIND before the podium its marc's huge smile that seems unpracticed in a way where its clear he STILL cant quite believe hes standing there with valentino its the BIG hug in parc ferme that literally knocks marc's sunglasses off of his head. gifs HERE !

and afterwards its SO happy. giddy! they love a fun on-track battle, they both podiumed (marc's first and vale's first back at yamaha) so they are floating on airrrrr and marc of COURSE chooses vale and when they manage to get some alone time he's SO eager (his first time question mark. knew he would get this from vale with the confidence of a prodigy so he saved it...) but god he learns QUICK. and its a huge thing —looking back, in hindsight— the beginning of it all. the start of them. but at the time, they dont even KNOW how huge it is, what kind of effect theyre going to have on each other's lives. they cant know. and besides, it doesnt matter here, in this moment. because marc is under vale and vale is inside him, and marc's panting wetly and sweetly against vale's neck and vale feels something building in his chest and it feels something like joy. something like inventing something. and they dont even know what kind of thread theyre building between them. they cant know yet, how it all goes wrong, here in this room, in this moment. but whatever it is will be worth it, that he knows. itll be worth this precise second, here and now, with marc's pulse thrumming against his skin
