First of all, I LOVE THIS FOR HIM!

Second, my headcanon for the Bucky in my fanfic series was already that he and Rose live in a house similar to this (but on a bigger property because they like being secluded and are anti-social beings although Bucky is more anti-social than Rose) in the Thunderbolts era of my series prior to me learning about this piece of canon Bucky news. So this is the best discovery I've had for tonight.

The Rose Files

My first crack at writing my very own Marvel fanfic series! I'm very excited and very nervous to do this. I haven't written a proper story (let alone a fanfic) in YEARS.

This story has been sitting in my drafts for *checks date on original draft* a whopping 10 years. Holy shit.

I actually wrote the original incomplete draft (more like the first two chapters of it) in a couple of notebooks which I still have and used them as a starting point. I even have a copy of the original fancasting (which is no longer valid because the casting and characters have changed).

This story was conceived after the first Avengers movie came out and the plot of it has been completely revamped since then.

Seriously, it's now an entirely different plot.

I actually tried to pick it up last year but writer's block is a pain in the ass.

HOWEVER, I recently started getting addicted to reading Bucky x OFC stories on AO3 and decided to give this fanfic another chance.

Obviously, the main pairing is Bucky x OFC. But I've decided to do away with the slow burn shenanigans and make them an established couple instead, fleshing out their love story through flashbacks and plenty of backstory.

Rest assured, the road to happiness for this pair isn't all rainbows and sunshine. They'll still encounter problems like every typical couple.

Especially since Bucky is a grumpy old man in a 39 year old body still dealing with a lot of insecurities and guilt from his past as the Winter Soldier.

Also, the story won't completely revolve around my main pairing. It's more than just a love story. (And there's more than one type of love!)

This fic is set shortly after the end of TFATWS and the backstory spans from CA:TWS up to current day MCU.

Plot-wise, I've decided to make my own plot and sprinkling in some Secret Invasion while I'm at it instead of rehashing TFATWS and inserting Rose Matthews (my OFC) there.

Why Secret Invasion?

I chose Secret Invasion because I'm somewhat familiar with the comic arc and I reeeeeaaaaally wanted to tie Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D back to the MCU. This is the perfect series to do that considering the fact that in the comic series, Daisy Johnson is a prominent character.

[AOS is canon in this story and heavily referenced because of OFC. Also, Coulson's team makes frequent appearances in the fanfic :)]

It's out now on AO3 along with the prequel (which I'm currently focusing on). It is entitled "The Price of Freedom" while the prequel fic is called "Love In The Midst of War".

Spoiler Alert: Old Man Steve will eventually die in my story.

Obviously there will be a funeral and that's where the Avengers (aside from Bucky and Nick Fury), some of the A.O.S cast, and you my beloved readers are going to be introduced to Steve and Peggy's brood.

SIDENOTE:

I'm a firm believer of the Steve Rogers timeloop headcanon and will follow that as reference for this story.

Following Steve's return to the past and his subsequent (and inevitable) marriage to Peggy Carter, they eventually have two kids (in accordance to MCU canon).

Who go on to have children of their own.

One of which is [SURPRISE!] Grant Carter (who starts using his actual surname Rogers after Steve's funeral).

Rose Files: The Sacred Timeline

Now that the first four chapters are up on AO3, it's time to bring out The Sacred Timeline.

When I first started my fanfic overhaul, I nearly chickened out because keeping track of the MCU timeline was a massive headache. Especially when I started working on Rose (my OFC) and Bucky's love story (the main focus of this particular post).

MCU Wiki is a fucking godsend.

As mentioned in a previous post, this fanfic begins the day after the TFATWS finale. Spiderman NWH & Hawkeye may be briefly mentioned/referenced later down the line (depends if it'll fit with the story).

As for the overall major backstory, this timeline begins towards the end of CA: TWS then continues through several events from AOS, CA: Civil War, Avengers Infinity War, Endgame, the 1 year later epilogue of AOS, and FATWS.

And for Rose & Bucky's relationship timeline, I've compiled the major relationship milestones (not ALL of them though to avoid spoiling too much of the story) that line up with the MCU events (dates included) that occurred prior to the start of the fanfic below.

Rose & Bucky's Relationship Timeline

- January 12, 2014: Rose meets Bucky for the first time

- January 13, 2014: Rose, Jessie and Jay go on the run after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D

- June 2014: Rose goes M.I.A, leaving her loved ones behind and starts making her way across Europe

- January - June 2016: Rose encounters Bucky in Bucharest, they fall in love and start living together

- June 23, 2016: Rose gets caught in Bucharest by the Joint Counter Terrorist Taskforce while helping Bucky behind the scenes in his escape and is revealed to be a S.H.I.E.L.D agent by Sharon Carter. Agent Jayden Williams arrives to take Rose into S.H.I.E.L.D custody just as the Winter Soldier escapes. He allows Rose to go after Bucky on the condition that she voluntarily surrenders afterwards. She watches as Steve and Bucky fall into the water then helps Steve and Sam escape with an unconscious Bucky.

- June 24, 2016: Rose accompanies Team Cap to the Flughafen Leipzig-Halle and temporarily parts ways with Bucky (giving Bucky her Grandma Evie's ring and receiving his dogtag in return), leaving with Sharon Carter. She then meets up with Agent Williams and return to S.H.I.E.L.D.

- July 23, 2016: Rose arrives in Wakanda as requested by Bucky. She meets the Wakandan royal family, bonds with Shuri, and spends the night with Bucky, reaffirming their love for each other.
