Behold the Beaded Bride!
I consider this my Magnum Opus as I’m not doing this again anytime soon! I did this back in 07-08 (I think) for my mom for Christmas. She was made using the 1901 French Bridal Gown from the Paradise Collection crochet series.
Tumblr media
This is the materials and the beginning of the skirt pattern. Yup, you read that right-1000 sequins! (So it’s more sequined than beaded but whatever),Luckily Sis would string stuff for me whenever she got frustrated with homework/her video games.
Tumblr media
It’s made in two sections; the bodice:
Tumblr media
and the skirt. Both are rather simple; it’s the appliques that make it really fancy. The medallions were crocheted first and the lines of sequins or beads done up separately. Then using the template in the pattern you glued the pieces onto a thin piece of fabric to create the appliques. These you would cut out and glue onto the gown (which is why it hangs funny in places)
Tumblr media
The circle medallions are spaced all around the bottom and the edges of the skirt are heavily beaded as well. You can also see the sleeve appliques here.
Tumblr media
Here you can see the beaded choker and headdress. I had to redo some of the hanging beads as mice had chewed it! (but thankfully it was easy to fix)
Tumblr media
Her veil is HUGE. It’s crochet beaded all along the edge and features another applique at the bottom.
Tumblr media
Close up. I love the butterfly here matches the one on her bodice.
Tumblr media
Her bouquet! The outer edge has a row of beads ans sequins. The mice ate the ribbon roses so I had to replace them; I like these better anyway. She also had a beaded purse but the mice destroyed it and I’m not inclined to make another one (I’m just thankful it wasn’t anything else!)
Tumblr media
It’s been about 15 years and I’m STILL impressed I managed to make this! I hope you enjoyed seeing it:)

a present I made for my friend’s birthday!!
details under the cut
Yarn: 100% cotton for needle size 4mm (there wasn’t much info haha)
Crochet hook: 7 US size/4.5mm
wanted it to be a bit bigger since I was using yarn that wasn’t as fluffy as the original pattern called for, and it kinda worked? The gaps are wider ofc but i think it would have been too small otherwise.
Currently its shell is 11.5cm in width and the total body length from head to tail is about 20.5cm
Pattern: YouTube Video by Rose and Lily Crochet part 1, part 2
she has two other patterns for different sized turtles but like I said i wanted it bigger :)
very well explained! Easy to catch on and an interesting way of attaching the legs and tail! Maybe it’s bc I don’t often crochet but I loved how she did it!
overall it took me maybe 8h to complete in total? i would be definitely be up to try another pattern of hers one day hehe
BTW IM A KNITTER I ONLY CROCHET BC MAKING PRESENTS IS FASTER /hj. I’ve never had a project work up so fast, nor one that used up so much wool, which I really can’t afford to buy that much of so I’ll be staying loyal to knitting 😩🙏

My Favourite Free Amigurumi Pattern Creators for Beginners - Part 2 (YouTube edition)
Tumblr media
Before I was able to read written amigurumi patterns, I used to follow YouTube tutorials. My first ones were by Lily and Rose Crochet as I've mentioned in my previous post. But I've also tried a few others to see different approaches to crocheting plushies. Some of them are more famous and viral (like all the bees and squishy cows) but I also find designs on these channels easy and cute (also please check other links from these creators): Part 2
Mocha Stitch I loved the standing frog! I've crocheted it for my sister which she now keeps as a squishy on her desk. I've added a small flower from this tutorial on its head (no photo unfortunately)
stitchingwithsab cute mushroom guy and a froggie
Club Crochet  check out their website as well! huge source! though these pattern are too little in size to my taste
All from Jade cute little plushies
Toristory Creations famous bee pattern and more
Amiguruku cute keychain-size characters
Knit Grit a lot of original easy patterns and crochet basics
ToysByValerie little honeybee and bear with a scarf are my favourites!
Little Crochet Farm fantastic themed character patterns
Odinka Wisanindhi toys, dolls and wall hangings
Complicated Knots a lot of designs!
Ami Saigon a lot of cute animal and themed characters

Sunflowers and Roses
Tumblr media
I made a lot of flowers and I’m very glad I’m done with them. I thought these flowers would be more fun to make but I got bored very quickly. I do still like making the sunflowers. If I where to make another flower theme project, I would make a flower crown and flower garlands. I seen pictures of crochet lavender garland which I like a lot.

name meaning tag game
thank you for the tag @winterandwords!! this hasn't come my way since i started Conversion, so i'll do all the characters from it! i'm gonna look up the actual meanings, too.
rules: list your OCs and explain their name meanings
Rosalyn: i misremembered the name of a bakery from my hometown (Roselyn), and part of the story is that she gets rechristened because everyone else has really soft-sounding/vowel-ending names, so i thought it would work perfectly to call her Rose (because another character is named after a flower). apparently, it has roots in words meaning "horse" and "malleable" lol
Josephine: i have this weird thing where i can't name characters after my relatives, and there's one beautiful name that's similar to Josephine, so that's where i ended up when i wanted to use my relative's name. it's a feminine form of Joseph and in hebrew Joseph means "he will add".
Dahlia: this was the easiest name to come up with, i chose it for the flower it evokes! that's also what it means, lol.
Anais: chose it for Anais Nin, ngl. i just wanted something unusual that ended with an -s. it's probably a variant of Anahita, which means immaculate or undefiled.
Ximena: she needed a Spanish name and i completely misremembered the name of a singer i liked a long time ago. it's a feminine version of the masculine Ximeno, which has an unclear meaning, but may be related to the word seme (son) or Simon (hearing, listening).
Marlene: this started out as a placeholder when i was brainstorming ideas for the original cult story that morphed into this that will eventually become the second novel in the duology. it was originally based off an idea related to Marlene Dixon, a real-life cult leader, so i just called her that to make it easy in my notes. it stuck because i instantly registered her face (literally a photo from a crochet pattern i saw in a magazine) when i read her name in the context of the story notes. it's a combination of Maria and Magdalene (like Marlene Dietrich, whose name was Maria Magdalene Dietrich -- what a cool fact to learn, i had no idea!) and it's related to Mary Magdalene!
i'm tagging @words-after-midnight because i don't think i've seen you do one of these?? and @words-dead-to-the-outer-world and @oh-no-another-idea! (i somehow just saw both of you tagged me in games like a whole 2 weeks ago, i have no idea how i missed them, but ty for tagging me! hopefully i'll circle back to them soon!)

For oddman-the-oldman, who asked:
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Not as simple as it seems. Partly, it's detachment, being able to tune out all the background noise nagging for my attention. When that's done, having a project to do, like throwing pots on a wheel or crocheting an interesting pattern, or writing, or baking, or doing something with a tangible, satisfying ending.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Physical or otherwise? Physically, I'm very fat, noticeable from space, fat. Otherwise, people remark a quality I have that helps people feel calm, which is, believe me, ironic.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Another tough one. My Master's degree? My ongoing recovery from abuse and neglect? I feel good about both of those, but I think better than either of those is raising a healthy, intelligent, generous, kind, reasonably un-twisted son. He started out pretty amazing and I managed not to fuck him up too much.
What is your greatest fear?
Homelessness. It isn't rational, but it doesn't have to be.
What historical figure do you most identify with?
I can't answer this, though I reserve the right to edit this response if I can figure it out. I know myself too well, and historical figures too little to pick one.
Which living person do you most admire?
It changes periodically, but I think, just now, it's that heroic man who, armed with only a club, was able to lead the insurrectionists away from their intended victims.
Who are your heroes in real life?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; Bernie Sanders; Mikhail Gorbachef; Gloria Steinem; Carl Rogers. A few others. You get my drift.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
My indecisiveness and executive dysfunction which encourage each other.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Cruelty.
What is your favorite journey?
I'm not sure I understand this question. Physical? Emotional? Mine? Someone else's?
I like train travel from anywhere to anywhere. I like the process of learning or teaching a new skill and seeing or feeling the light bulb finally come on. I am probably getting this wrong.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Chastity. I suppose it has some value, but I have managed to maintain my integrity without it.
Which word or phrases do you most overuse?
"All-righty!" Makes me want to pull out my tongue and smack my brain with it.
What is your greatest regret?
Unkindnesses and mistakes from my past that come back to haunt me when I am trying to fall asleep.
What is your current state of mind?
Ruffled feathers. Slight annoyance. I just baked a sweet bread that looked easy in the recipe but was not in real life. I made it and baked it, and it looks okay, but it wasn't worth it, no matter how good it turns out to be.
If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?
'Family' is a confusing concept. If that includes my parents and siblings, I would make them be kind. If it includes my son, I would like it if he lived closer. Me and my husband? More active. Take your pick.
What is your most treasured possession?
I love most of my possessions. It's hard to say which I treasure most, like asking what song or book or work of art is my favorite. Picking one from the many is too mind-boggling for me.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Mental illness with no option open to get help.
Where would you like to live?
I'm fine right here, at least for now.
What is your favorite occupation?
Therapist. Not easy work, or well paid, but when it works, it's beyond anything.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Compassion.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Same same.
What are your favorite names?
Rose has always been a big one with me. Different names have different uses, though, and are often wrapped up in meaning for me. For instance, I love the name Hephzibah, but would not want to be named it. However, I named a beautiful orb-weaver spider Hephzibah, which suited her very well.
What is your motto?
I don't have one, but I often quote Socrates when he was purported to have said, "Be what you would like to seem." I guess that will do for a motto.
I was tagged by my dear friend oddman-the-oldman. I don't know who else to tag.
