Got to see my mom and sister for the first time since before the pandemic started so that was pretty awesome. We went to the DOL and renewed my license first :|. Went and ate Dick's afterward. Went to Roozengaarde from there to check out the Tulip Festival and they both took a ton of photos. None of us had been to it in years so it was a lot of fun. It's so busy now though it was like going to a county fair with all the cars and people everywhere. Was still great to get to wander around with them and hang out. Drove back and went to Cedars for dinner, the spinach and paneer naan is probably the best thing I've had in a decade, highly recommend. They brought a duffel bag full of my clothes that my mom has been storing... Turned out hardly anything in the bag was the clothes I wanted, it's like all stuff I hardly wore or used as mostly camping clothes etc. There is some nice jackets and like 50 pairs of socks but 0 pairs of underwear so it's a mixed blessing. Thrilled to have the stuff though I've been doing laundry every couple days out of necessity since I had so little clothing.

Skagit Valley Food Co-op, 202 S 1st St, Mount Vernon, WA 98273

I’m pretty sure that Skagit Valley Food Co-op is the best grocery store in Skagit Valley. Sure, it’s the only grocery store that I’ve been to in Skagit Valley, but it has so much going for it. It’s a community-owned natural foods market that opened in 1973 and was the first produce department to be certified organic in Skagit County. While you can opt to become a member, anyone can shop there.

I was impressed by the size of the store. It has a café, seating, and a gift shop. Plus, you’ll find organic produce, bath and body items, vitamins, meat, cheese, fresh flowers, wine, and all the things you’d expect to find at a natural foods store. They carry bread from local bakeries.

They have their own brand that I saw on ice cream and other products. They bake lots of things and have many types of prepared foods to choose from, including salads, sandwiches, wraps, soups, etc.

The gift shop had better Skagit Valley tulip items than Roozengaarde. They sell jewelry, greeting cards, toys, books, clothes, socks, kitchenware, stationery, etc.

I was impressed they sell kombucha SCOBYs so you can make your own kombucha. They also had a few local kombucha brands and local ice cream brands.

I was hoping to find some local apples but only saw local apple cider.  I didn’t try the prepared food but the reviews are positive.

Parking was easy to find. They have their own lot and it’s also near a city parking lot (free parking).

Queen of the Night tulips *:･ﾟ✧*:･ﾟ✧

𝒯𝓊𝓁𝒾𝓅𝓈~ tulips are mostly know for being a symbol of love. They’re also known for positivity, bringing good luck and protection too! So if you’re doing any spells this spring... keep these beauties in mind. Like roses their colors have specific means too! Nothing beats getting a little more specific in your spells. ;)

Spring is my favorite season, and you just can’t out do Washington State tulip festivals. Needed a good spring fix, and was afraid I was going to miss this years festival. Made it with only a few days left! The festivals and fields here in the PNW.... I can’t even describe them. The atomosphere and energy is just radiating spring vibes and flowers. Happy place. ♡

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, Mount Vernon, WA 98273

This was my first visit to Mount Vernon and it was during April, aka Tulip Festival time. The festival is basically four tulip farms that are open to the public and various tulip events during the month of April. The main attraction are the tulip farms though. There are four of them: RoozenGaarde, Tulip Town, Tulip Valley Farms, and Garden Rosalyn. RoozenGaarde is the largest by far. All four require tickets. You can save a few dollars by buying your tickets online, in advance. I drove by Garden Rosalyn and hardly anyone was there. It looked very small.

This year, RoozenGaarde was $15 on a weekday. The ticket did not ask me to specify a date or time. The other gardens were also $15 each. Some have night viewing. You could make a day or weekend out of it if you’re really into tulips. I think it’s a bit expensive especially if you want to visit multiple farms. There should be a pass with a discount for those who want to see more than one tulip farm.

When you enter Mount Vernon, you’ll see “Tulip Route” signs for people who want to take a scenic drive past the tulip and daffodil fields. Skagit Valley produces more tulip and daffodil bulbs than any other county in the US. And the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is the largest tulip festival in the country by acreage of tulips, number of farms, and days of blooms.

Timing is important as most blossoms only last about two weeks. There’s a bloom map that the SVTF provides online to help with planning. The area also has breweries, wineries, farms, nurseries, etc.

Mount Vernon is about 60 miles north of Seattle. Expect some traffic. It took me about 90 minutes to get up there and over 2 hours to get back.

People recommend going early on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

I was so happy to be able to visit yesterday in person and I now have so many ideas for our garden here as a result. It’s a great place to get ideas for color combinations and garden design, and just to enjoy all the beautiful colors and types of tulips in a lovely gardenand rural setting.
