Beyond the Ache: Unveiling the Need for Root Canal Treatment
The inner chamber of your tooth, known as the pulp, contains nerves and blood vessels. When this pulp becomes infected or inflamed, due to decay, trauma, or other factors, it can cause severe pain and sensitivity. Root canal treatment is a procedure designed to address this issue and save the tooth:
Pain Relief: The primary benefit of root canal treatment is pain relief. By removing the infected pulp, the procedure eliminates the source of discomfort, allowing for a pain-free and functional tooth.
Preserving Your Smile: Root canal treatment is often the best course of action to save a damaged tooth. Without it, the infection could spread, potentially leading to tooth loss. Saving your natural teeth is crucial for maintaining a healthy and functional smile.
Improved Oral Health: Leaving a tooth infection untreated can have a domino effect on your oral health. Root canal treatment eliminates the infection and promotes overall oral health and well-being.

If anyone remembers all the dental work I needed done uhhhhhhh three years ago and never went back and ran away forever…I’m finally going back to a dentist on Thursday to restart the process and face my deep and utter abiding terror. And I also scheduled my COVID and flu vaccines for a couple hours later. And my psych appointment to restart meds.
I figured get it all done in one day, have my miserable immune reaction on Friday that I seem to always get with Moderna COVID shots, and then flee directly into the weekend and never be a person again except when I’m on and off crying. It’s going to be so kind to future me to get these things done and I can do it no matter how much I feel like I am constantly about to Actually Physically Die.
#you can see why I’m restarting meds#my brain is constantly convincing me that my teeth are about to actually finish rotting out of my mouth and I probably have an abscess#already that is going to give me a jaw or heart infection#which is VERY unlikely#and that my dog is deeply sick and I should rehome her and give her to someone who’ll take proper care of her and isn’t me#yadda yadda#it’s been fucking miserable#the only good part is 1) I’m going to get the worst part over with (starting the process) and#2) even if I completely flee and refuse to go back I’ll have one dental cleaning at least helping with plaque buildup and stuff#this is so fucking EMBARRASSING it’s all so EMBARASSING#it shouldn’t be this hard for me and I know it’s irrational#I’m just so scared because it’s so triggering for me for NO REASON and#I KNOW that this time when we get to the multiple fillings and at least one root canal and also my impacted wisdom teeth that it’ll be#different and I won’t go un-numb or if I do again they’ll have better checks in place for when I panic lie to their faces#but it doesn’t help#and I’m so sure they’re gonna tell me I need three or more root canals because I’ve waited way way too long#and I STILL can’t consistently keep up with brushing and flossing#which is the most embarassing and shameful thing in the world and I KNOW#but I’m scared shitless of all of it and it’s all a sensory nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway I’m not going to be okay later this week and I’m not particularly okay now#so if I’m not around online much#that’s why#but I’m happy news Aoife and I are having some lovely walks this week and she’s very cute and snuggly and we played tug a lot of times yest#*yesterday and she also stayed sniffing a bush while a bike went past two feet away#instead of getting startled and needing to hop or bark at it and then calm down#I’m so proud of her#and I wouldn’t be able to do this at all without my very kind partner who spearheaded scheduling the dentist (and researching places)#after my jaw pain nervous breakdown last week#health#personal

I am going to scream.
For over five years I have been asking my parents to send me my paintings and art miscellanea. Maybe eight years.
Now I get an email.
asking me.
if I want my stuff or if they should throw it away.
Years.
Asking for years.
So emotionally draining I've had multiple therapy seasons devoted to the subject.
Do I want.
My stuff.
In all ways but physical I am standing in an open field screaming at the unyielding sun.

Re: the being immunocompromised and nearly dying of agony from shingles all over me at sixteen thing. I used to say that was the worst pain I've ever felt in my chronically ill life, worsened by the fact that weenie me refused morphine because I was fully indoctrinated by D.A.R.E. and terrified that I would become an addict as I lay in the hospital bed writhing in agony as I was damn-near actively dying. Even breaking my toes a few years later just warranted a mild "Fuck." in comparison.
Anyway I recently experienced three infected teeth (two wisdoms that apparently just grew in already rotted? and one cavity that got out of hand because I kept forgetting to call my dentist and couldn't afford it anyway) within a two year span and let me say that that knocked the nearly dying in agony thing right out of the park
#it had literally been a decade by that point since I ever cried in pain#the last time before that being when I had my first bowel obstruction that coincided with a migraine#I miss my tooth#not the wisdoms to hell with them. but I couldn't afford a root canal for the third tooth so it had to come out#the kicker is that as of a month ago Maryland Medicaid covers dental. again.#it used to cover dental even before that but they cancelled the coverage the year I moved to Maryland#I'm glad they are covering dental again and I have an appointment in May but I wish it had come a year earlier#because my options were between a two hundred dollar extraction or a thousand dollar root canal#teeth are a luxury in the U.S.#also when I had my wisdoms removed I went to a dental surgeon and had laughing gas#but when I had the third tooth removed I couldn't afford that again and went to my regular dentist and didn't even have valium for it#I was SHAKING in the chair trying not to freak out or faint#it was longer than it should have been too because the tooth shattered in the process and he had to dig out the roots and let me tell you#not. fun.#at least for two hundred dollars I got novocaine. If I had gone to the dental school for free they wouldn't have even given me that#cannot don't want to imagine that pain#I wish I could have kept my wisdom teeth like my roommate did when he had one years before#but the dental surgeon refused to give them to me because of pandemic protocols. I never even got to look at them#laughing gas is better than valium I think. both are great tho#I wasn't out of control loopy on laughing gas but when they were stitching up my gums I thought 'huh. hell of a time to floss my teeth'#teeth#toothache#Thou hell o' a' diseases

"O mine child, how it gladdens me to see thee..." Almost impulsively, Marika reached out to touch their child, but stopped themself before they could make contact with Godwyn's cheek. "...Though it doth mean mine actions were for naught."
He was tense. On edge. Never in a million years did he anticipate his reunification with his mother and step-father be like this. He was aware that they were one individual. He could remember them being separate people once, then you could only see one at a time. He learned the truth when Marika's behavior became more erratic a few years before his assassination. It seems even Radagon couldn't fix their faltering faith.
"The Greater Will only speaks curses into my ears now." If it wasn't abundantly clear that grace was stripped from him in death. Destined death and deathroot had corrupted his body and soul, forever scarring him.
"Whatever actions thou, or others hath done in returning me were all for naught. A deathbed companion and the reunification of the two-halves of the half-woven centipedes was all that was needed to ressurect me."

So I go to the dentist and the appointment I had was not the appointment that I thought I was going to have (normal maintenance vs deep clean) so i warned the dentist "hey heads up I burn through dental anesthetics super quick and also I'd like to use as little as possible because putting the dental anesthetics in my body is the most painful part of the process unless I'm having a root canal or something" and she's like "Hmm. Okay. Is it just the injection site?" and I was like "no, it will feel like burning on the opposite side of my face and in my nose and eyes and stuff." And she was like "Hmm. Do you turn really red when this happens?" And I was like "I don't know, I can't really see myself when it happens." And she was like "are you willing to experiment with this a little?" And I was like "sure, no worries" and she injected me with one anesthetic and it hurt like a motherfucker and she and the assistant both went "OOOH" and she was like "Yeah you got really red right away let's try the other," and it was the same thing and then she was like "okay I think this is the one that will work" and it hurt a little bit but it was fucking NOTHING compared to the comprehensive full stabbing burning facial pain from the others and long story short the dentist was like "You're reacting to the epinephrine in these other anesthetics," which I guess is fairly common for people who have autoimmune disorders.
So I guess this is to say: If you get spreading, burning, stabbing pain when you are being injected with local anesthetics it's not supposed to do that and you should say something.

Healing Your Smile: A Guide to Dental Implant Recovery
Tumblr media
So, you've taken the plunge and opted for dental implants to replace missing teeth. Congratulations! This innovative procedure offers a permanent, natural-looking solution for a confident smile.
But with any surgery comes a recovery period, and understanding what to expect after dental implant placement can ease any anxieties and ensure a smooth healing journey.
At Capture Life Dental Care, we're dedicated to providing our patients with comprehensive care every step of the way.
To help you navigate the post-treatment period with confidence, we've put together this guide to outline essential steps and tips for caring for your smile after dental treatment.
The Implant Powerhouse: What to Expect After Placement
The dental implant process typically involves two phases: implant placement and restoration. The first phase involves surgically placing a titanium post into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root.
This initial procedure may involve some swelling, discomfort, and slight bleeding, which is completely normal. Your dentist will prescribe pain medication and provide specific instructions for managing these temporary side effects.
The First 48 Hours: Gentle Healing
The first 48 hours are crucial for setting the stage for proper healing. Here's what you can expect:
Swelling: This is a common post-surgical experience. Apply ice packs to the affected area for 20-minute intervals throughout the day to reduce swelling.
Discomfort: Pain medication prescribed by your dentist should manage any discomfort. Remember to take it as directed.
Bleeding: Slight bleeding is normal for a day or two. Gentle pressure with a gauze pad can help control it.
Diet Do's and Don'ts: Soft Food is Your Friend
For the first few days post-surgery, stick to a soft food diet. Think mashed potatoes, yogurt, and blended soups. Avoid hard, crunchy, or chewy foods that can irritate the implant site. This gentle approach allows the implant to integrate seamlessly with your jawbone.
Oral Hygiene: Keeping Things Clean
Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for successful healing. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle toothpaste to clean your teeth, avoiding the implant site for the first few days. Antiseptic mouthwash can also be helpful, but consult your dentist about the specific product and usage instructions.
The Week Ahead: Gradual Progress
By the end of the first week, the swelling should subside, and discomfort should decrease significantly. You can gradually introduce more solid foods to your diet, but continue to be gentle with the implant site.
Beyond the First Week: Continued Healing
The healing process continues over several months as the implant integrates with the jawbone, a process called osseointegration. During this time, you may experience some tenderness at the implant site, particularly when chewing. However, the discomfort should be mild and manageable.
Second Stage: The Crown Jewel - Attaching the Restoration
Once osseointegration is complete (usually 3-6 months), you'll return to your dentist for the second phase. They'll attach a permanent crown, bridge, or denture to the implant, completing your new smile.
Recovery Tips for a Smooth Journey
Here are some additional tips to promote a smooth dental implant recovery:
Get Enough Rest: Allow your body time to heal by getting plenty of sleep.
Avoid Smoking: Smoking can significantly hinder healing and increase the risk of implant failure.
Minimize Strenuous Activity: Avoid activities that could put stress on the implant site, particularly in the first few weeks.
Regular Follow-up Appointments: Stick to your dentist's recommended follow-up schedule to monitor healing and address any concerns.
Conclusion
While dental implant recovery requires some initial care and attention, the long-term rewards are undeniable. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, offering a natural-looking, functional solution for missing teeth.
They can significantly improve your ability to eat and speak, boosting your confidence and overall well-being. So, embrace the recovery process, knowing that a bright, healthy smile awaits!
