"The best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end" 2/2
Our SPITI travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai, was for 14 days from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 with Terraveller.
...continued from Part 1 of our jeep safari with stargazing to Spiti, mentioned at the end of this post.
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We reached Rangrik. It was near and ahead of Kaza, but it had peace and was not crowded like Kaza. We stayed at Hotel Norling-inn for 2 nights and used to have buffer dinner and breakfast here.
One of techies in the group created this sticker of our friend and we all had fun pulling her leg. She took it sportingly.
At night, social games were played in the rooms and everyone stayed awake to participate. It was a game of verbal accusation based on suspicion, defense based on circumstances and so-called enemity between friends. Haha.
DAY 6 RANGRIK - LANGZA - KOMIC - HIKKIM - KAZA - RANGRIK on 29.08.2024.
We had our breakfast at Rangrik and drove to the sitting Buddha of Langza.
We broke into a jig to a local song being played by our driver in the vehicle at Langza.
And we drove to the world's highest restaurant at 15,049 feet at Komic to have lunch.
After the highest lunch, it was time to connect with family and friends. We drove to the world's highest post office at Hikkim.
It was mandatory to refuel at the world's highest petrol pump in Kaza.
There was a HUGE surprise at Kaza for all of us. Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller had sponspored a dinner treat for all of us at the luxurious restaurant, The Himalayan Cafe. This cafe provided books and board games along with delicious dishes.
As usual we played our social games by assembling together in one of the hotel rooms. Whosever room was occupied for the game, couldn't sleep till everyone decided to stop the game and retire by midnight.
DAY 7 RANGRIK to CHANDRATAL on 30.08.2024.
After our breakfast at Norling Inn hotel, we started our journey to the highest point of the jeep safari, Lake Chandratal.
Our lunch was at Losar around mid day. The locals of Losar welcome the tourists sweetly by saying, "hello Sir, Losar". It was quite funny. Cafe Samsong was our lunch point.
We crossed the camping site of Chandratal at least 3 kms before the lake around 3:10 pm.
I was happy that we were in time. Kudos to Tosh bhai, founder of Terraveller that he got us here in time. We had ample time to explore the lake.
And we completed the circumabulation of Chandratal lake, watched the sunset to return to our camp site, Spiti Expedition UC Camps in the twilight. We had a small stargazing session here, post dinner. We wrapped ourselves in our woollens in the cold and windy darkness of Chandratal.
By the time we returned after stargazing, some had already retired in the warm and cozy tents.
DAY 8 CHANDRATAL to MANALI on 31.08.2024.
We had a good breakfast at Chandratal camp site and left for Manali. The road is long and arduous. Bhavik bhai, who was less fortunate to get the last seat in the vehicle (we had rotation system and everyone got every good and less good seats in the tempo traveller vehicle) must have had a trip of his lifetime. आत्मा परमात्मा एक हो गया.
The roads and the weather is such that you get hungry quickly. We had stopped at Chacha Chachi Chandra Dhaba. The elderly couple who own the dhaba also are super heroes, who have played crucial part in saving lives of many tourists stranded in the mountains.
We crossed the 9 km Atal Tunnel in 10 minutes. A journey that used to take couple of hours, that may extend even more due to traffic or natural calamities, was now reduced to minutes!
Lahual welcomed us with its green velvety mountains and we had a tea break at Dorni dhaba. We washed ourselves with the cool waters of a naerby stream here.
We had lunch at 3 pm, after crosiing the Atal tunnel, but before reaching Manali.
Our Manali hotel - Snow Peak resorts and cottages was luxurious and those who had booked the shorter trip, checked out. The rest of us checked in.
Me and my friend were enthusiatic about exploring Manali on foot as soon as possible and we ventured out within 15 minutes of check-in, around 5 pm. We covered Hidimba temple, Ghatotkach temple, Khatu Shyam temple and Manu temple on foot. The darshan at each of these places was divine.
We were hungry after a walk to these temples, nestled in the hills of Manali and had momos at Green forest cafe behind Hidimba temple in Manali.
We were happy that we had one more night in Manali.
DAY 9 MANALI on 01.09.2024.
Today was trip to the left bank of Manali, Naggar-side. The breakfast at our luxurious hotel was quite sumptuous and varied.
I really don't remember what we had at the restaurant of Naggar Palace. Basically trout was on everybody's mind, but there was some film shooting going on and the restaurant couldn't serve it.
BY the time we reached Manali, I was famished and was feeling weak. I had tea with biscuit at the Manali bus stand. Tosh took us to Manali sweets, a restaurant famous for its tea and snacks. We had chole-samosa, jalebi and tea here.
It turned out to be an appetizer for the famished soul. Tosh suggested Super Bake restaurant on the Mall road and described that slice pizza would be available here. It wasn't.
Some of our friends had paid a visit to their local friends in Manali and they prepared Siddu, which is a local dish. It is bread with either sweet or savoury filling. Our friends got siddu for all of us, those who missed this local delicacy.
I still repent what followed after the gluttony of these cakes. I was bloated and we tried pan, which didn't help. FInally we decided to walk slowly to the hotel, even if it meant an uphill climb. For the next two hours we walked very slowly, halting for almost 45 minutes at the Hidimba temple. I swore not to overeat again.
I thought I had retired until my friends pulled a successful ghost prank on me.
DAY 10 MANALI to MANDI on 02.09.2024.
This was going to be the second last day of our tour. We all decided to go slow and soak in the most of the trip, now that it was about to end. We had a slow breakfast at the Manali hotel and as usual, it was sumptuous. We were going to Parashar lake and it is quite far. It took almost 6 hours to reach. En route, we stopped at a resort named Heavenly Forest for lunch. The steaming hot rice with dal and a dollop of butter was delicious. It was raining outside as we relished this lunch.
We returned after sightseeing Parashar lake and were dropped at Mandi bus stand, as our bus to New Delhi was to be boarded. A couple had flight the next day and were dropped at the hotel at Mandi.
The rest of the friends had extended plans to stay in Manali and they returned and reached Manali around 2 am.
DAY 11 MANDI on 03.09.2024.
Though I was not for the stay in the Mandi hotel, my friends were gracious to share the photos of their breakfast.
That ends my trip, as we reached Mumbai from New Delhi. I relived my experience while writing this post. Hope you all enjoyed reading it.
I have used photos graciously shared by my foodie friends, who also clicked good photos of places we stayed at. They allowed me to use their photos for this blog post. Those who contributed pictures are:

Day 5 - 10 September - Zagreb > Sarajevo
Started the day with a run which was very stop start due to the traffic lights. We then had a coffee and breakfast and went back to the flat and showered and checked out. We have stored our bags in the station and are now in another cafe.
Zagreb is interesting, it feels a bit more rough and ready, compared to the alpine sleepiness of Ljubljana. The Habsburg era buildings are in a bit more disrepair and there is a lot more building work going on. It also feels a bigger city and less set up for tourists, meaning it is quite hard to know what to look for. Lots of the museums appear to be closed for renovation, hopefully taking advantage of that sweet sweet EU structural fund cash.
We then went to a restaurant called Pithos which was really cheap and absolutely delicious. I had a schnitzel and Nin had a bean and sausage soup and we had a little beer with it. It seemed to be a place that people came for lunch from the civil service offices nearby. I really can’t recommend it enough!
After that we went to the museum of illusions which was fun, there was one illusion at the start that and you feel like you were seasick walking along a gangway when you were walking a straight line as well as lots of your classic illusions with mirrors and perspective.
We then went up the worlds shortest funicular railway and had a small craft beer from Croatia, as well as a few other small beer stops as we wandered around. Zagreb really grew on me over the day as we found little neighbourhoods away from the strip of mainly tourist bars. I think going for a run was really helpful in that as we passed places we went back to. I read (on Wikipedia) that Croatia lost 20-25% of its gdp in the war of independence that it fought with (a Serb dominated) Yugoslavia and although Zagreb did not have as much fighting as other places, a shock of something like that must be felt on the capital, particularly when it does not have he tourist money that other parts got subsequently. The little museums that were quite offbeat and the relaxed vibe meant that I was happy we stayed a second day and we saw a bit more of it than the last time we went when I was interrailing and we just went to a bar on the strip for 5 hours waiting for a train.
We had quite an expensive and forgettable meal at a vegan restaurant, got our bags and then went to the bus stop for our bus to Sarajevo. When we got there the bus company were very stressful in that they made you pay extra for baggage and then nearly didn’t accept our tickets because they weren’t printed.
We actually managed to get two seats to ourselves each which was nice, although I am still working out how to sleep on busses. The border crossing was largely fine, the Bosnian border guard just took everyone’s passports and then stamped it, without needing to look at us. The driver seemed to blow the busses clutch out so there was a slight burning smell in the bus for a bit, but it seemed to sort itself out.
We did arrive in Sarajevo an hour early at 5am! Which, considering we had no where to go and neither of us had really slept properly led to us taking what I call the ‘Chandigarh rip chord’ and booking into a Novotel for 6 hours at quite a cost (where I am writing this currently). This is named after what Ben and I did when we got into Chandigarh from Simla at 4am after a very hairy night bus and when all the other rooms were taken, went to a very nice hotel with a 24hr desk and checked in for 6 hours. I think we have learned rom this; 1. Night busses always get in early so don’t count on anything being open, 2. Night busses are probably not worth unless completely necessary and you always pay for it in the end. That being said my 6 hours in the Novotel have been bliss. We are now going to meet my friend from university, Alex who is travelling with his sister in the area!
Where we ate - Coffee - Cafe bar Botanicar, Korica 1, Pithos
What we liked - Quiche in Korica, our food at Pithos was great and really cheap

Embrace travel documents like your best friend: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. Research visa requirements for your destination and apply well in advance. Keep copies of important documents in a separate location and digitally.
Become a currency conversion ninja: Download offline currency conversion apps and familiarize yourself with local exchange rates. Consider a travel credit card with no foreign transaction fees for convenient cashless transactions.
Don't be afraid to get lost (within reason): While planning an itinerary is helpful, allow room for spontaneity. Wander through charming backstreets, stumble upon hidden gems, and discover the unexpected magic of a new place.

How Mishka, a Female Solo Traveler, Spent 3 Days in Manali?
On 20th September 2018, Mishka turned 18. Her father asked the legally adult child of his to demand any gift that day.
With high hopes and excitement in her eyes, she said “Dad, I want to go on a Kullu Manali Tour alone”
Obviously, being a typical father he frowned on her quirky demand. He was befuddled for several minutes before saying, “Ok! You can. But tell me the whole plan”
Mishka was already prepared for the question.
Smart girl, I must say!
She opened our website having many Himachal Travel packages and showed her dad a 3-day road tour package for Manali she picked for herself.
Dear father was impressed with her proactive move. Gladly, he gave her a ‘yes-nod’ for the tour to Manali.
(2 days later)
Our female solo traveler was all set to live her dream. Let us see how did she spend 3 days during her 1st Himachal tour.
Day 1 of the Tour: Chandigarh to Manali
The driver picked her from her home in Chandigarh. She had packed all her luggage, plus necessities. • Warm clothes. • Medicines. • Food and snacks • Mobile application to detect spy cameras and microphones in her hotel room. • Water bottles and cold drinks.
As it was her 1st solo himachal pradesh trip, she asked the driver to stop at Mansa Devi temple, where she sought the blessings of the goddess before commencing her himachal taxi tour.
It was an exhilarating experience for her to travel to Manali by road as it is adorned with unending beauty in the form of valleys, mountains and rivers.
Mishka reached her hotel, which was near Mall road, in the evening. She wasn’t at all tired. After checking in, she quickly went for a stroll on Mall road.
Had a sumptuous meal at a restaurant and came back to her stay to rejuvenate for the next day’s excursion.
Day 2 of the Tour package: Rohtang pass and Solang valley
She woke up early in the morning because she was immensely excited for today.
Without wasting time, she had her breakfast and head out to visit Rohtang Pass. But, as her ritual, she visited the Hadimaba temple and collected blessings before starting her journey, even today.
On reaching Rohtang, she froze for several minutes. Not due to cold, but was stunned by the beauty of the place.
It was her 1st time when she saw so much snow.
Obviously, she was on cloud 9!
After spending half a day, she steered to Solang Valley. Again, the frozen moment came seeing the ethereal beauty of the valley.
Mishka likes adventure. To quench her thirst for a thrill, she opted to try paragliding.
Although, at 1st her heart palpitations increased. But, as she flew up in the sky, there came a sense of serenity gazing at the valley from above while gliding in the air.
It left her in moments of awe and silence, just like HritikRoshan in the movie ‘zindaginamilegidobara’, when he did scuba-diving.
After the excitement and pleasure, she went back to the town. Being a foodie, she went to the Tibetan market in the evening to relish a bowl of Thukpa before coming back to her hotel for the night's sleep.
Day 3 of the Tour: Local sightseeing and Back to Chandigarh
Check-out timing from the hotel was at 12 pm noon. Taking its advantage, on the 3rd day of the kullu manali tour, Mishka went to see local places of Manali.
Being a nature admirer, she ambled through Van Vihar and walked on the streets of old Manali village.
Suddenly, she realized that she forgot to purchase souvenirs for her family members and friends, especially for her father who allowed the young girl to go on the solo tour.
She quickly purchased items from the street kiosks on Mall road and went back to the hotel to pick her luggage.
With sweet memories for a lifetime, she proceeded to her hometown.
Final words
Even you can plan a solo trip like Mishka, provided that you do all the planning properly. Plus, book a tour package from a reliable travel agency.
Mishka is actually our client. She chose us for her 1st solo tour to Manali. And she went on many others after that.
For this blog, we interviewed her to tell us about her experience while she booked a Manali tour package with us.
And you just read how it was!
Have a look at our exclusive himachal tour packages. We’re sure that we h apt for your solo or group trip!

22nd May'19 1:00 am
here I am, beneath the blanket of sheer darkness. Just a mysterious yet bewitched ray of light entering through the barred window which is faintly visible through the blanket. This stark silence of the night is provoking a potent So thought inside me: I have reached 12th grade, nearly the end of this marvellous and unforgettable journey of 12 years. I still remember how on the first day of school I was crying and was so hesitant to go to that then eerie place and make friends, but little did I realise that the very place is going to provide a plethora of everlasting memories, such a huge circle of those darling idiots, and countless number of lessons to me. Now as I lay upon my bed, I think of the few days we are left within the school. Soon after the boards, everybody would start off on their own different path. Everybody would soon become engaged with their colleges and start a new life.
Some old friendships would get lost in the busy schedule, some would be retained forever. Everybody would make new friends and relationships and gradually with time all those fun-filled and amusing events of school days would take the form of sweet memories in our brain. In the recent years of high school, I've gone through a lot of ups and downs. I've lost many fragile friendships but at the same time gained some of the most precious ones.
I've experienced low times in my academics as well as social life, but there have been- with me- those crazy, comical, and cordial human beings-f.r.i.e.n.d.s- who have stood beside me like solid rocks and always got my hand in difficult times, and with whom I've done lunatic things like bunking classes, hanging out in the common room, chilling in generator area or canteen area, hiding water bottles and bags, playing truth & dare and what not. In class 6th, we started using pens instead of pencils in our notebooks, but little did I know that all those flames and ramblings would later become permanent memories to relish upon. Days are passing by, soon will be the time when I would see those faces for the last time probably and would bid adieu to my second home: Bhavan vidyalaya Chandigarh. It would not be easy at all! Leaving all these treasures would be as difficult as getting into an IIT without studying. Some of them have got so close to my heart- in the cookie of acquaintances they've become the choco chips. I still remember how from the awkward first "hi" to nonstop texting about day to day stuff, the bond grew stronger & stronger.
Summers are just about to arrive, all of us have exciting plans for the break. Staying away from books and more nearer to games, hangouts, trips is going be the order of the day. Some are also going take advantage of these holidays to cover up the syllabus taught and brush up all the topics, for we'll be appearing for the boards apparently. I normally plan to finish my homework within 1-2 weeks and then enjoy the days left with various exhilarating activities. On the last day before the break I get so rejuvenated for having received one full school free month. But this time it is not at all the same; there is a peculiar feeling inside me heart. This time I'm not at all delighted at the thought of summer break; this time the excitement level is at the bottom; this time i actually don't want the summer break. Yes, I'dont want any holidays, any trips or fun activities at my house. All I want is to come to school every day, study, learn, enjoy, spend time with the ones who matter the most-my friends- in that pacifying environment; because afterall it's my last year there and I want to live it to the fullest. I just don't know how will I spend this one month away from my school, away from my friends. It maybe very unconvincing or anomalous to most of the people but it's the truth. Many times we don't value the things or treasures when we have them already with us; it's the time when they're taken away or separated from us that we get their gist or importance. The moment you'll start wondering, you'll get it's essence.
Years later when we'll be looking through the polaroids of the past, we'll get the reminisce of those lovely days, those magnificent memories, and those paramount people with whom we lived the best days of our life.
CHEERS TO THE SCHOOL DAYS💝
CHEERS TO THIS FRIENDSHIP💝
