Rip It Up: The Black Experience in Rock N Roll by Kandia Crazy Horse

A great anthology of articles and interviews with black rock artists and fans dating back to the 70s. One of the articles featured is White Noise Supremacists by Lester Bangs (originally published 1979) which is a really interesting look into early punk culture's flippant attitude around appropriating white supremacist symbols and being racist/homophobic/antisemitic "ironically." cw there's tons of slurs in this article

A very recent book! Each section looks into various influential women in Rock, including Big Mama Thornton (the original and far superior singer of Hound Dog,) Tina Turner, Betty Davis, and the Shirelles to name a few.

Be My Baby by Ronnie Spector

The late great Ronnie Spector's autobiography. The black girl groups of the 60s were a massive part of the genesis of "classic" rock as we know it, and the Ronettes in particular were INCREDIBLY formative artists. The Rolling Stones opened for THEM. Another cw: Ronnie was in an abusive relationship with their producer Phil Spector for much of their career, and this is discussed at length in the book so read with care.

I wanna compile information for Veruca here, my current play through is really helping me get back into her head so to speak lmao

Veruca's full name is Veruca Elise Richter-Dominguez. She was born to Anna Richter and Rogelio Dominguez. Veruca is named after her maternal grandmother, Marlene Veruca von Brandenburg, She grew up bouncing between Berlin and Charter Hill. She speaks English, Spanish and German.

Veruca's nicknames include, V, Ruca, Ronnie (vik, Misty, Johnny)

In the ending where Johnny gets his own body, and they become separated, Veruca changes her name to Veronica Brandenburg. After making things official with Johnny she goes by Ronnie Linder.

She grew up pretty isolated, as an only child she found a lot of refuge in reading and playing video games. She had a fixation on technology as a kid, one of her favorite pastimes was reading her dad's manual on his ancient Hitachi 95 cyberdeck and fiddling around with it's internals, soon that lead her to discovering the net.

Becoming a netrunner just made sense to her, it was a way she could reach out to people and maybe find some friends with a common interest. Her handle is V31L. At 14 She met her best friends through the net, a nomad girl named Sunnie Kim and her older brother Charlie. The three of them spent their days netrunning and meeting up in virtual space to hang out, eventually Veruca was able to start sneaking away to the badlands to hang out irl.

The two girls were inseparable, Veruca found a kindred spirit in Sunnie, and sunnie found the same. Both girls would spend their summers desert camping and off-roading with Charlie. Charlie became Veruca’s introduction to a lot of things, new music, hacking, love. She fell hard for the young rockerboy, if things didn’t happen the way they did, Veruca and Charlie probably would have ended up together.

Things did end up taking a turn for the worst, on the precipice of veruca’s 18th birthday she had planned on cutting all ties with her family and running away to travel with sunnie and Charlie. As they approached the border crossing point a band of armored henchmen flanked their Thornton, the three travelers dragged out into the hot California desert. Veruca was held at gunpoint and forced to watch the execution of her best friend and boyfriend before being dragged back to charter hill. Her parents had planned the whole execution as a means to bring her “back into the fold”

Generation 1 super update - part one

I started playing this legacy recently, with the founder prompted by my friend. I decided I want to blog the legacy, but instead of starting over, I am just going to do a couple of longish Gen1 superposts. I didn't really take any gameplay photos so you're just gonna have to take my word for it on the shenanigans.

My friend's prompt for Amber was just a girl who lives in a trailer park and keeps getting pregnant, so that's where we started, lol

Traits: Loves the Outdoors, High Maintenance, Cringe Career: Culinary

I built a little trailer park in Newcrest for Amber to live in. (Sorry for the build mode outline around the lot, I am lazy.)

Amber met her neighbor, Faiz Jaleel, and they hit it off right away and started dating. She got pregnant pretty quickly, but while pregnant she rolled the want to break up with Faiz, so they broke up.

Amber had her first baby, Ronnie, with Faiz, shortly after the breakup. (This is Ronnie as an adult, obvs.)

Amber's next love interest was Joaquin Le Chien. They actually got married before Amber got pregnant. Amber got a mysterious phone call that she would receive an inheritance if she got married within 7 days. She inherited $100k! While she was pregnant, he cheated on her with Izzy Fabulous, so they divorced. Joaquin took half the money.

Amber gave birth to Desirae shortly after the divorce.

Are You Being Served? (Full TV Series) 1972-1985

A British sitcom created and written by executive producer David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd, with contributions from Michael Knowles and John Chapman, for the BBC. Set in London, the show follows the misadventures and mishaps of the staff of the retail ladies' and gentlemen's clothing departments in the flagship department store of a fictional chain called Grace Brothers. The series was broadcast on the BBC for ten seasons, totalling 69 episodes between 8 September 1972 and 1 April 1985 – and included five Christmas specials. There was also a 1977 film, a spin-off series Grace & Favour with some of the same main cast in 1991–1992, and a one-off episode with a new cast in 2016. Since its original release, all 69 episodes, the restored pilot, the Christmas specials, the sequel and the film have been released on DVD. Are You Being Served? was a great success in the UK. The series was also popular in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland, and was successfully aired in The Netherlands and Belgium with Dutch subtitles. The show was also popular in Israel and in the United States, where it gained a loyal and enthusiastic following when PBS television stations began airing reruns of it in the mid-1980s, along with other British sitcoms. In 2004, it was ranked 20th in a television countdown of Britain's Best Sitcom. https://www.dailymotion.com/library/playlist/x77if5 The idea of a spin-off was suggested by the cast of Are You Being Served? almost immediately after the original series ended in 1985. Lloyd and Croft liked the idea, but agreed that the department store format was exhausted and that any spin-off would require a change of location. Despite the enthusiasm of the original cast, it was almost seven years before Lloyd and Croft brought them back to television. The plot line that brought the cast from the store to the manor was considered remarkably topical, since it aired just a few months after the death of British publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell, who was revealed to have borrowed heavily against his own employees' pensions. Grace & Favour is different from Are You Being Served? in that it involves a continuous story arc, with certain plot elements, such as the relationship between Mr Humphries and Mavis Moulterd, unfolding throughout each episode. This in turn allowed the series to involve more complex storylines and subplots, making it possible to include returning guest stars and location shooting, neither of which was ever done on Are You Being Served? The title of the series is a double play on words. A "grace and favour" is a home or other property owned by a monarch but given to the use of a faithful retainer upon retirement, as with the retired characters in this series. Grace is also the surname of the owner of Grace Brothers, the fictional department store where the characters previously worked and was also the previous owner of Millstone Manor. Are You Being Served? cast member Trevor Bannister (Mr Lucas) chose not to return. Arthur English (Mr Harman) was also not brought back due to his retirement. Wendy Richard (Miss Brahms) took time off from filming EastEnders to film Grace & Favour. Also returning to their roles were John Inman (Mr Humphries), Mollie Sugden (Mrs Slocombe), Frank Thornton (Captain Peacock) and Nicholas Smith (Mr Rumbold). These were the same five actors to have appeared in every episode of Are You Being Served?
