Hi, poetz! I hope you’re having an amazing day 💕 Valentine’s Day is coming up and I want to know what are Quinn and Rachel’s plans for each other? Do they go on a fancy dinner date and let Santana and Teresa babysit Callie and Celeste or just stay at home with their kids? Thanks a bunch, I love you and your fics!!! 💕💕💕
This Valentine’s Day, in the year of our lord 2024, Calliope is just about six months old. Quinn only wants to stay home, cook a nice meal for Rachel, put their daughter to bed, and enjoy a quiet night with just the two of them on the sofa (not) watching a movie - until Callie inevitably wakes up in the middle of the night and demands their attention.
Rachel, on the other hand, wants to take her wife and the mother of her child out for a romantic dinner. The problem, of course, is that all of their friends who she can occasionally convince to watch their baby daughter for a few hours want to do the same thing with their significant others even though Valentine’s day is right in the middle of the week on a Wednesday. The only available option is grandma Shelby who has her own just-barely teenage daughter that she still won’t leave alone in the house, but Quinn will not agree to bundle up their baby girl and tote her all the way to Englewood, New Jersey, in the middle of winter.
So it’s option one on February 14th, with a more romantic evening out planned for the following Saturday when Shelby and Beth can come to their apartment and stay with Calliope while Rachel and Quinn get all gussied up and head to Le Pavillon in Midtown for fancy French cuisine. Quinn only sneaks off to the restroom twice to check in with Shelby.
Generally, this is how it goes every year post-kidlets. The actual day becomes more of a family thing with kisses and cuddles and chocolates and pink hearts and flowers, but Quinn and Rachel always try to carve out some other day for just the two of them to celebrate in a more romantic way.

Two asks within a week — that’s how you know I’m rereading Don’t Blink again. Sorry to inundate you with questions, Poetz.
Anyway, upon my rereads of DB I’ve developed this headcanon that may seem random/specific, but it’s that, early on in their relationship, Quinn has some sort of moment the first time that Rachel falls asleep on her. I have no clue why this particular situation is something I’ve thought about, but I just imagine it’d be so cute — maybe they’re watching a movie on Quinn’s couch and Rachel nods off and when Quinn realizes she kind of freaks out and can’t stop staring at Rachel for her adorableness. What I wanted to ask you in relation to this is, if this were a thing/drabble in DB, what would your take on it be? Do you think Quinn would have a reaction to that scenario?
pandaesque asked: Follow-up (I’m so sorry lol) but I realized I think I forgot a word in my ask — when I said “fall asleep on her” I meant like on top of her, as in like on her chest/cuddled up/etc. That’s the main point I thought would elicit a reaction from Quinn and I realized I didn’t really make my ask clear. Please feel free to ignore this if you understood upon first read.
I never mind answering questions, and that is a very cute headcanon.
I have two takes on this, actually.
The first is that this situation would probably happen for the first time before they’re even dating, back in that best friend phase when they spend their Thursday afternoon/evenings together. Like maybe Rachel is exhausted from her performance schedule and feeling under the weather (though she won’t admit it because she’s Rachel Barbra Berry and she does not get sick!) but doesn’t want to miss her Thursday Quinn-day, so Quinn comes over to watch a movie on her couch with some takeout instead of them going out, but then Rachel falls asleep on her. And Quinn would be so torn - because on the one hand, she just wants to stay there forever and hold Rachel even though it’s very bad for her mental well-being because she is over this stupid crush - she is! - and she can’t let herself go there again. But on the other hand, Rachel is obviously not feeling her best and Quinn is so endeared that she wanted to spend time with Quinn anyway, but Quinn really should gently wake her up and send her off to bed so she can get some actual rest.
The second, of course, would be post-romantic confessions, and now Quinn gets to hold Rachel for real, so she’s going to, basking in the reality that she can openly gaze at her ador(k)able girlfriend to her heart’s content. She doesn’t even care that Rachel is drooling on her boob.

hey poetz, hope you're doing well! :) 4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread? 11. what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general? 20. what is your favorite trope to write? 31. tell us about one of your characters who’s an absolute joy to write
4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
Strictly speaking, that would be the unfinished college sequel to Devolution. It’s unfinished because the show moved on in a completely different direction and I ended up exploring Rachel’s discovery of Quinn’s sexuality in other universes, notably Don’t Blink, so no great existential crises on that one.
For a plot bunny I never even started, I once had an idea that Frannie Fabray was teaching Judy how to Twitter and pulled up Quinn for her mom to follow and saw that her baby sister was following soccer and a bunch of shows/creators with lesbian content and realized, ‘huh, probably a lesbian.’ Looking more into her tweets, Frannie would have noticed the exchanges with Rachel Berry and assumed they were ‘gal pals.’ and then would have started asking Quinn about her ‘friend’ Rachel. Rachel would have, in fact, been just her friend at the time, but the unsubtle nudging from Frannie would have had Rachel and Quinn eventually admitting to romantic feelings.
I haven’t written this one because it’s pretty much the story of my cousin’s twitter account and me speculating to my mother that she was a lesbian and her roommate was not just her roommate. Spoiler alert: my speculation was confirmed a year or so later, so it felt a little dirty to Faberry-ize it in a fanfic.
11. what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general?
I feel particularly called out by this one. I typically spend weeks researching the tiniest little throwaway detail of a fic, like a restaurant's hours of operation, or google mapping a street for location descriptions. It’s a form of intense procrastination as much as an obsession with making everything as realistic as possible.
Let’s see - what have I learned doing research? I learned that Open House New York is a thing that happens every year. I learned that Stanford White was murdered at the version of Madison Square Garden that he designed. I learned the curriculum at Yale and the train schedules between New York and New Haven which have since changed I’m certain. I learned about The Cloisters Museum. I learned how workshops usually work and how long (or rather short) the rehearsal schedules for musicals typically run. I learned that you can (or at least could a few years ago) sit for the New York bar exam at the same time you can sit for Massachusetts and that combo is/was totally doable. And, of course, I learned all about how reciprocal in vitro fertilization works.
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
I’m not sure I actually have a favorite. I mean, rivals to friends to lovers seems to be the Faberry plot that I wrote over and over. I’m a romantic comedy kind of gal, so I’m not sure I’ve really done much outside of that.
Wait - is using a third character narrator to tell the story a trope? Because then that’s probably my favorite.
31. tell us about one of your characters who’s an absolute joy to write
Have you met Teresa Rinaldi? I mean, she gets to flirt with Rachel and Quinn and go home with Santana, and she does it all with a sense of humor. She was supposed to be a throwaway character in a bar scene, there purely to create humor around Santana getting rejected, but she was so much fun that I brought her back as a love interest.

Hi poetz, I’ve always loved your Faberry works and have recently fallen back into the rabbit hole and have been rereading your stories. You’ve probably already been asked this but how do you imagine Rachel and Quinn’s stories end up in your Pieces of the Sky universe? Any chance they end up together or maybe even as friends?
First, my condolences for your recent fall. That Faberry rabbit hole just seems to appear in the grass when you're least expecting it.
I typically leave that universe to the reader's preference on whether or not they could ever have a romantic relationship again.
Quinn does have a girlfriend, after all, so anything beyond re-establishing a tentative friendship would be off the table while Elisha is in the picture.
That being said, I do tend to imagine that Quinn does a lot of soul (and Google) searching about what Rachel told her in that last encounter, and it casts their entire relationship in a different light. The filter of anger and resentment that's colored her memories is gone with the revelation, so she ends up having questions about specific moments they shared now that she's thinking about them with the knowledge that Rachel is Ace, and she'll wonder how things might have played out if they could have had that conversation while they were still together. So I've always believed they'll end up meeting for coffee again once Quinn has a chance to really process Rachel's coming out, and they'll talk it all through in a much calmer, less resentful way.
And maybe that really can be a new beginning for them...
(Some of the other questions on this universe can be found on my pieces of the sky tag.)

Hey Poetz! I’ve seen asks where you’ve answered questions about DB Faberry’s wedding songs, or what songs they would consider ‘theirs’, but I wanted to ask: are there specific songs that remind Quinn and/or Rachel of each other (they don’t necessarily have to be romantic, but I’d imagine most might be)? Similar enough question but maybe a bit different. Hope you’re doing well!
A good number of the songs that I used to pull titles from for DB would remind them of each other. 🙂
So, like, the usual suspects:
Quinn can't help think of Rachel when she hears Arms by Christina Perri, Unconditionally by Katy Perry (because Rachel sang it to her for that one birthday), and Into You by Ariana Grande (because of that lap dance).
Rachel can't help thinking of Quinn when she hears It Was Always You by Maroon 5, I Drove All Night by Cyndi Lauper (or Celine Dion or Roy Orbison because Quinn did that for her that one time) or Feelin' Love by Paula Cole and Love Me Like You Do by Elle Goulding (because Quinn did those strip teases for her.)
Of course, there are also those songs from their high school days that make them think of each other - I Feel Pretty and Unpretty, obviously, but also Keep Holding On and Never Can Say Goodbye.
Rachel also thinks about Quinn when she hears True Love by Pink since Quinn keeps changing her ring tone to that as a joke.
Many years ago, someone pointed me at a couple of songs by Saving Jane - Girl Next Door (HS Rachel thinking of Quinn) and Come Down to Me (Quinn thinking of Rachel). So those also feel like Faberry songs to me.
Does anyone else have any songs they think would make them think of each other?

Hey poetz! I have been rereading your stories and I love your post canon fic "Loving by Halves". Do you have more to share about this universe? Like how would the first "I love you" or their first time play out?
I had intentions of adding a sequel, but alas, that hadn't come to pass yet.
Rachel did agree to take things slow since she is very freshly divorced, but slow for Rachel is not jumping Quinn on the sofa that day and mentally deciding to wait until they can have something resembling a date, even if that date has to be disguised as a two old friends meeting for lunch. They do have to be a careful about that in this universe.
I actually imagine their first kiss happening very shortly after the divorce and probably happens in a somewhat inappropriate setting. Rachel ropes Quinn into babysitting duty for Grace, because she's still struggling with her place as an 'aunt' and not her mom but can't seem to help herself from dragging Quinn into her (not-so) secret imaginary 'family'. Quinn agrees because she does like visiting with Grace but also because she wants to help Rachel deal with her postpartum issues in the way no one bothered to with Quinn. So they're alone with the baby and she's sleeping and the conversation naturally turns back to their friendship and Rachel's hopes for that to be more very soon and, well, it's been a whole week. Surely one kiss can't be considered rushing things. They have to test out their chemistry, after all.
The test is a rousing success. But, you know, baby present, and Kurt and Blaine wouldn't really appreciate them defiling their apartment, so...
After that, those friendly lunches of theirs become a regular thing. Sneaking around under the guise of 'gal pals' is kind of rush for Rachel, but Quinn's obviously worried about the potential speculation that comes with it. There might be some angst while they learn to navigate a secret relationship along with the rehearsal schedules they're both keeping with their new shows, but they'll both decide that it's worth it. Because, you know, they love each other, and Rachel will probably say it first, maybe not in the most romantic way, because I can see her throwing that out there when she's trying to convince Quinn that they're worth whatever difficulties they're navigating with their secret relationship to be together.

hey poetz, i was reading your whynotme tag and i dont get why Quinn wouldn't just ask Rachel about her sexuality and if she'd ever even thought of being with a woman? Surely it had been a topic of conversation when Quinn first came out? If she would be so forthright when Rachel would date another woman, why wouldn't she just take a shot earlier anyway? Wouldn't the risk of ruining their friendship be the same anyway?
I don’t think Quinn was quite brave enough to put herself out there that way (and risk embarrassment and/or rejection) when she first came out, and then the opportunity to outright ask Rachel about it just kind of faded away.
The thing is, Quinn has never exactly been the most open or honest person, especially when it comes to discussing her feelings. She’s more the type to quietly assess a situation before she takes action. And Rachel Berry has never been shy when it comes to talking about her own feelings or about her dads and her involvment in the LGBTQ community and all the times she’d attended pride as an ally. Quinn even makes a mention in The One To Hold My Heart that she’d been looking for a hint that her coming out might have sparked a romantic interest from Rachel, ‘but all she'd seen was her friend's excitement to organize a group outing to the local pride festivities.’ I’ve always imagined that Quinn thought Rachel would just outright tell her if she’d ever thought or wondered about being with a woman, especially after Quinn came out to her. Rachel didn’t, and her dating history certainly seemed to back up the perception that she was straight. So Quinn never pursued it.

Hi Poetz, in that DB AU where Sarah moved to New York, you said that Sarah and Josie became good friends. What if Q&R never slept together, so Sarah stayed even longer in Q's life, thus making her and Josie closer by frequent contact. Do you think they would develop feelings for each other? I don't know how it could happen but if it did (poor Q), and Sarah broke up with Q to be with Josie (no cheating involved), do you think Q would be able to forgive them? What would Rachel (and Santana) do?
They become friends because Quinn and Josie are friends and Josie will still end up moving to Manhattan.
It’s mentioned in Take A Cup Of Kindness that Josie had always thought Sarah was cute but ignored any potential attraction because Sarah was dating Quinn--so I think Josie might be prone to develop some romantic feelings for Sarah, but she would never act on them. As for Sarah, she’d probably be pretty happy with Quinn so would have no reason to explore anything with Josie outside of their friendship.
But theoretically--if Sarah were to let her jealousy over Rachel fester enough to cause problems in relationship with Quinn and perhaps turn to Josie more as she pulled away from Quinn, and Josie were to confess to romantic feelings, causing Sarah to seriously consider her as a potential partner, then I really don’t know that Quinn would be inclined to forgive them . At least not for a very, very long time. I mean, she didn’t really forgive Sarah for dumping her for a good four years there. :P
As for Rachel--she’d obviously be comforting Quinn and helping her to mend her broken heart while secretly rejoicing that Sarah fucking Cartwright was finally out of the picture.
And Santana would go all Lima Heights Adjacent on Josie and Michigan for screwing over her bestie.
