Kelis - Trick Me 2004
"Trick Me" is a song by American singer Kelis from her third studio album, Tasty (2003). It was written and produced by Dallas Austin. The song was released as the album's second single on February 17, 2004. "Trick Me" was not released in the US as her American label, Arista, folded after the release of Tasty, and she was transferred to Jive; as a result, no more singles were released there after "Milkshake". In Europe, she was still on the same label, Virgin.
The single topped the charts in Hungary and Romania, and peaked inside the top five in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia, among other countries. Despite not being released commercially in the US, "Trick Me" managed to reach number seven on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart in April 2004.
56,7% had some good milkshakes.

Pick a rap song from a bad description: Part 2
Part 2 of the rap/hip-hop exploration we've been on, because one playlist just wouldn't have been enough.
Anyway, pick a song from a bad description! You do not have to recognize any of these songs. Go with whichever description strikes you as funniest. Whatever sparks your curiosity. Whatever makes you suddenly keen to listen to Romanian gangsta rap. Whatever works for you.
At the end of the week, I will put all of these songs into a playlist, from the song with the least amount of votes to the song with the most amount of votes. There will also be an extended playlist with more songs on it, because I just listened to too much really good shit trying to make these playlists, but I couldn't always come up with funny descriptions for all of it.
If you want to hear the playlist, either leave a comment or say something when you reblog, and I will tag you when the playlist is done. If you are absolutely desperate to know what a given song is, and you can't wait, shoot me an ask and I'll answer.
And please reblog the poll! Obviously for me, because then I get a lot of responses and it makes the playlist more fun for me, but also that way you and your mutuals can fall down a musical rabbit hole together. Trust me, falling down musical rabbit holes is a lot more fun when you're dragging someone with you.
#polls#music#playlists#bad song descriptions#also the first part of this will be up in like an hour ish#just going to do my latvian first and make sure there's not last minute votes#couple songs are pretty close right now

Last night I dreamed that the people from Shoot From the Hip were staying over at my house. I was serving them beer. The tallest one said “Hey, thanks for the drinks. Anything I can do for you?” so I asked them to go to your house. They replied “Sure, what’s his address?” This led us to a minor problem as the only information I have regarding your whereabouts is ‘he does not live on this continent’ so I told them to look for an emu that did not live in Oceania and had a tumblr account. They hopped on a plane to Romania.
Several days later they posted a selfie with you, and you were indeed an emu.
OH MY GOSH AAAAAA THATS SO COOL OHMYGOSHHHHHH :DDDD
(That is actually SO something that the tall one, aka Tom would say I reckon!!)
That’s so sweet of dream-you to say to them to see me awwwww :DDDD
I’m happy stimming so much right now like you dreamed about sfth and meeeee (me being an emu made me laugh so much hahaha :))
this is so funny and so cool thank you so much for sharing!!!!! :DDDD
I love how you were like “hmm idk go track down an emu with a tumblr” and they were like “ah yes- To Romania!!” (I don’t live in Romania lol)
#This is so cool AAAA#like idk why but this made me so happy????#:))) <3333#Now I’m smiling so much#This is lovely#sfth asks#shoot from the hip#like WHAAAAAAT!? :)))#(Also even if it’s a little thing it’s so nice to hear myself be referred to with he/him :))#Happy stims are going off the charts#Thank you for the ask!#:DDDD

Subcarpati, one of the biggest underground hip hop bands in romania, using a combination of hip hop, electro, and traditional music to keep alive folklore and bring it to a younger disinterested generation and the cityfolk forced to sever ties with their roots, nature, and tradition
Put your hand and write
When around you is only fury
Write the sentiment, write the sensation
You be the poet, save the nation
Put your hand and write
It inspires me for the verses
A little sadness and happiness
Write. it inspires me for verses
Put your hand and sing; big gift
Pity you dont feel what I feel
Put your hand, create
This is all we have at hand; connect/make a connection
Your idea can heal, save
Show us how man
Can be so beautiful in this satire
Put your hand and fight, train
Stay focused
You have a championship to win
Stay focused and you will take everything to the rank of art
Put your hand, dream, since the morning
Stay focused because you have a life to gain/win
Stay focused, and you will take everything to the rank of art
You hear me brother, dedicate yourself!
Change the decorations/your surroundings, involve yourself
Drive away your cloud, get up
I have a secret for you to live to the maxium your moments/seconds
(what?)
Breathe and think clearly
Not everything starts from intellect
Even in your heart you have screams/shouts
Through creativity is expressed what
Is repressed in time
If you do not see and you mirror
You reflect and change
You re-evaluate and wonder
Weather you want to write or paint walls
Be true with yourself day by day
With bun simpţ (common sense/rationality/proper behavior to others) and humility
And your art will bloom like a rose
Who doesnt understand you will end up with thorns
Who knows will appreciate
Will respect when seeing
All that remains for you is to keep going season after season
Be balanced and stay focused,
Put passion
Listen to your heart, do not limit yourself
You have a mission
Minimal rhythm, but you are vital
Because you have a vision
Style is natural if it feels (if it is apparent that) it comes from the soul!
Its a training, you have to push hard
Determination, reproduction of ideas and a path/way
Messages pure and clear shared whilst running
Movement in its fenomenal forms
The way that, that
Man creates a state which forms a man which
Repairs fatal errors and wants only healing
Not banal texts, channels, screens, pennies
Be the book, the reader and the author brother!
Time cannot stop love,
The rhythm beats in our hearts during the day
I wonder, this is my nature
Better than to die daily
If you only remain with the memory
That you managed to become the shine/light
Which turns on/lights up in others humanity
Then, be greatful!

Long story short
Rock music became a phenomenom in Romania at the start of the 1960s, when different bands were started, mostly by students, but, sadly, none of them achieved fame during this time, rock and roll, along with other music genres, such as jazz, being opressed by the communist regime because they symbolised "western decadence". Very few recordings made in the '60s survived. During this time rock bands were known as "electric guitar bands", the word "rock" being taboo. Many bands started by playing covers of famous rock songs by western artists, such as The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. Some of the bands formed during this time are: Sfinții (The Saints, later known as Transsylvania Phoenix), Sfinx (Sphinx), Pioneers (later known as Olympic '64), Sideral, Sincron, Mondial etc.
In 1971, The Theses from July 1971, a document forbiding western influences in Romanian culture was adopted, so many rock bands started to include elements from the Romanian folklore in their music. Rock music started to gain notoriety and some of the genre's best albums were made, including Transsylvania Phoenix's "Cantafabule" or Sfinx's "Zalmoxe". The communists' "favourite band", to say so, was Savoy, a band despised by rebel rockers for their obedience towards the regime.
In the 1980s, hard rock became popular, with bands like Iris (the most famous band during this time), Voltaj, Metrock or Compact. There were also new wave bands, the most well known one being Holograf, which will later approach pop rock. Punk rock was an underground movement hated by the government and this subgenre of rock music is still very little promoted in Romania.
After The Romanian Revolution in 1989, when Romania finally became a democratic state, rock bands gained freedom to do what they wanted and many subgenres of rock, like soft rock, pop rock, alternative rock and many types of metal blossomed. Some bands from the 1990s are Celelalte Cuvinte (The Other Words), who were famous since the '80s, Vama Veche (named after a popular summer resort), Survolaj, an iconic band for the hippie movenment and many others I forgot. The 21st Century saw the rise of pop rock and alternative rock. Some examples of groups are Vama (formed by ex-Vama Veche frontman Tudor Chirilă), Luna Amară (The Bitter Moon) or Robin and The Backstabbers. Special acknowledgements to Fără Zahăr (Sugarfree), a hip-hop, folk and rock group, for being cool and crazy.

I'm worried about Armenia in the second place in semi 2 to be honest. I really love the song, but it will be difficult in the recap because the song goes from really quiet to hip hop to powerful finish in Armenian and Im worried people will overlook it because its not easy to compile.
On the other hand I think Norway, Finland and Australia are great choices for opening/closing respectively. Denmark is a bit of an odd choice though imo
While I understand your concern about Future Lover maybe not being easily approachable, I wouldn't be too worried about their qualification chances. Armenia is one of the strongest Eurovision countries, they have their diaspora and Georgia as a support, and the betting odds currently have them as a clear qualifier, second after Austria. While Armenia does perform second, they are stacked between two weak entries (sorry Denmark & Romania). Armenia also performed second of their semi-final in 2010 and 2015, and they qualified both times by a clear margin. I believe they are strong enough to do it again 🤞
In my opinion Norway is a brilliant choice to open the first semi! Powerful and captivating uptempo with that epic Latin/Italian choir opening and lights shining behind Alessandra, aaahhhh it's going to look so good ✨ Australia would have been my choice to close the second semi as well, and now Voyager can use all the pyros they want without sabotaging anyone with the smoke 😄 I'm so thankful for BBC for finally giving us the best possible place in the running order, although I'm sure Käärijä would have made an impact in any case 🥰
Denmark is a bit odd I agree, but there weren't that many great candidates 🤔 The opener is usually an easily digestable uptempo pop song, sung in English and not too aggressive. Maybe Belgium could have been an option? Idk, maybe they just wanted match the semis so that both openers are cute and young Nordics while the closers are weird, out-of the-box metal-influnced entries with big staging and lots of pyros 😄

Underground folklore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xu1tkect4I
Moving abroad after finishing high school might be a dream for many, and I was fortunate enough to be able to do just that. While trying to learn about the Dutch culture, I realised something; that I don’t know much about my own identity from Romania. Soon enough, I found myself terribly missing home while actively choosing to leave and study in a new country. Oh, the irony! My solution was simple: I started listening to more Romanian music than I used to back in Romania.
The concept of underground folklore must be new to many people reading this. It was to me. Perhaps I don’t dabble with the type of people who listen to this genre often enough to feel in any way influenced by them, yet I don’t believe it gets the spotlight it deserves. I think Underground folklore, through its multiple confined cultural elements, has the capability to create spaces that foster a local sense of belonging, just like it did for me. I want to introduce here this amazing Romanian band, Subcarpați (the literal translation would be “Under the Carphatians”). And more specifically, their song “Balada Românului” (“The Ballad of the Romanian”). This piece of music has been a favourite of mine ever since it was released on the band's album "Culese din cartier" and I've listened to it countless times since then (“Gathered/Picked up from the neighbourhood” - the neighbourhood plays an important role for inspiration in Romanian music, especially hip-hop).
Whenever I listen to the song, I'm transported to the chaotic streets of Bucharest. The lyrics perfectly capture the growing frustration and ignorance that many Romanians feel towards the failed system -and by default their own country- while also trying to celebrate the strength and resilience of the Romanian people. I find myself nodding along to the beat every time, feeling a sense of pride in my heritage and a determination to overcome the future challenges that face my homeland.
Here is a rough translation of some lyrics that I am fond of, because of the artist's use of music as a shield, representing the power and comfort that it can bring to individuals. The lyrics also address the struggles of identity crisis and the importance of embracing one's cultural roots (such as folklore), which can resonate with many listeners who may be going through similar experiences:
“I use music as a shield
That I gained over long years, not just in a night
And I'm speaking especially to the young people
It's an identity crisis, a national phenomenon
(...)
When I listen to or sing this ballad
I know it's like a spark in ‘garbage’
That will ignite the faith that Romania departs from us
(In the sense that Romania is in each one of us and its existence has to start with us)
(...)
I just want you to learn from mistakes, but wait
The world will not get my message
I have a national spirit, but I'm not a fanatic
Folklore is oxygen for an asthmatic country.“
What I love most about “Balada Românului” is the way it blends traditional Romanian music with modern electronic and hip-hop elements. The use of the cimbalom, whistle and other traditional instruments give the song a sense of authenticity and a connection to our rich cultural heritage. Just like my favourite lyric in this song tries to hint at, "Folklore is oxygen for an asthmatic country", there needs to be more appreciation for traditional folk music. At the same time, the vibrant electronic beats and the dynamic hip-hop rhythms add a contemporary edge that makes the song feel fresh and innovative. You can certainly feel that this song is a masterpiece of fusion.
One of the defining features of underground folklore that I feel I must mention is its connection to place and community. The ability of Subcarpați to draw inspiration from the streets, neighbourhoods, and cultural traditions of the Romanians is shown in the way their music often reflects the social and political issues that are important to their communities. And in my case, “Balada Românului” and their discography brought me closer to home, closer to a place where I can relate to others and be understood in my experiences growing up. I don’t categorise myself as a nationalist, nor do I agree with a lot of current opinions circulating around the media regarding this movement, but I do love my country and its history, people and nature. And underground folklore, with Subcarpați leading this movement in Romania, acts as a constant reminder for me to never forget what my origins are.

I was with you until you mentioned metalheads and punks. Because while you're right about all the justifications you mentioned above being racist... Don't you have beefs between musical genre fandoms there?
I entirely missed it here because I was a loner, but my partner mentioned the war between the fans of manele (an oriental-influenced genre that has a similar position in Romania as rap does in the US) and Depeche Mode fans.
Over here, rockers are kind of the hipsters of the olden days, rap/hip hop is oddly relatable to nearly everyone but me (with a patriotic, but not nationalist tone; I was once told I'd get the genre and come to appreciate it if I ever left the country), pop music is generally where scandals happen, manele is the genre which is generally understood to be amazingly popular (but it's rarely admitted to be loved) and symphonic music like Beethoven is what everybody pretends they listen to when answering official surveys, because we're all pretending we have Culture. And folk music is what nobody likes, except that one taxi driver who's blaring it at full volume when you have a hangover, but you're still required to have it at weddings, because you don't have a choice, nobody has a choice, it's the Hotel California of genres.
Do you... not have similar dynamics?
A lot of you on here feel waaay too comfortable admitting that you don't and refuse to listen to rap music, and I'm not loving the incredibly reductive takes on rap because the kendrick/drake beef has it on some of yall's radar for the first time in your life.
I'm not going to sugar coat it-- for americans especially, if you consider music a significant interest of yours but still feel the need to search for acceptable reasons to keep yourself ignorant of black music, or think of rap as a monolith of hate and violence and not equally as diverse as any other genre, or can only name nonblack rappers… you should be embarrassed of that. And your embarrassment should not keep you from being active about exposing yourself to unfamiliar art and broadening what you listen to.
'I don't understand what they're saying/they rap too quickly' I'm surprised by how much I keep seeing this-- speed is not a stylistic trademark of most rap music, & clearer diction as a performer is much more necessary in rap than other genres?? Statistically rap has a lower bpm (here's an example of one person's study) and word-per-minute (another person's study of about 20 thousand songs) average than other genres. (of course these aren't all-encompassing, but you can look into this yourself using sites like bpmdatabase.com.) Do you really feel overwhelmed by speed listening to Kendrick or Biggie or Nas or 2Pac, or have you never actually listened to their songs?
'I have to look up the lyrics'-- so what? is it a bad thing to take an extra few seconds to engage with an artist's work? If you listen to lyrical music, do you care when it's the artists you listen to? Why does the thoughtful art consumption everyone talks about not also apply to black art?
'there is too much violence and misogyny and commercialism' this is not unique to rap, or true of all rap music. Artists exist that talk about other things, the way they exist in all genres. There is an entire wikipedia page listing alternative hip hop musicians and rappers if you consider seeking it out too much labor. Click one!
'i find it unrelatable'-- who cares? Being unable to engage with art you don't find wholly relatable is a deeply childish and self centered way to exist. You get on here reblogging feel good navel-gazey posts about the shared human experience and caring for one another, but a rapper talking about living with violence or poverty is stretching the limits of what you can imagine or empathize with too much for you to care about it? You don't find that embarrassing to admit to?
You don't have to love rap, you don't have to incorporate it into what you listen to every day, but a lot of you need to be aware you're parroting reagan era anti-rap (& antiblack) pearl-clutching talking points, and it's a very ugly look. It isn't racist if your favorite genre isn't rap, but you need to do some serious self reflection if you consider it inherently less artistic, intelligent or positive than 'whiter' genres when you don't actually listen to it. I am looking at you, people into other counterculture genres-- it's crazy how much I see this from self-professed punks and metalheads especially lmfao. If expression, counterculture art, anti-censorship in music and the right for raw and unfiltered music to exist matters to you as much as you say you do, you should care about rap's relationship to censorship & fight for its legitimacy just as much as what you listen to.
