How do you think the different incarnations of the Doctor would deal with the Time War???????????

ahhhh GOSH this is a super interesting and thought-provoking question and also one that i don’t think i could answer in a way i found at all satisfactory unless i had, like, weeks to mull it over lol.  

i’ll try my best to think of some things on the fly tho without getting too deep, and others who may be more well-versed in a particular doctor than i are welcome to step in and add their own thoughts:

first doctor: honestly i think one might have been the most easy to recruit??  he’s obv grumpy about being “exiled” (whatever that really entailed, i still don’t know) but he’s also the closest to gallifrey and probably the one doctor who still really considers it his home.  i can see him ending up caving and getting trained as a recruit a la the events of the conscript (from the time war vol1) and fighting alongside his people as a regular soldier to protect susan and his homeland.

second doctor: two would prob be fairly easy to recruit, too….i can see him being slightly more of a strategist in the war- going to enemy baselines, acting like a fool/like he belongs there, then blowing their ships tf up like he did the dominators’ in the dominators (is it just me or does two seem to like blowing things up a…..questionable amount).  he did work for the cia in extra-canon so maybe he’d work for them during the war, too.

third doctor: three would hate the whole concept of the war and want nothing to do with it- i mean, all the doctors would, but three in particular i can see taking a moral highground about it and refusing to go on principle.  i can imagine him agreeing to help, but only as a diplomat, going to enemy bases and trying to talk them out of their actions and probably getting himself killed in the process.  but i could kinda see the brigadier maybe helping convince him to fight if he found out about the war??  and telling three that sometimes it’s necessary to become a soldier to protect one’s people, that’s why he did it, etc.

fourth doctor: god, four is such an unfathomable enigma to me idk why lol.  umm he’d be super disgusted with the whole idea, naturally.  probably one of the hardest to reel in.  but then he was (begrudgingly) willing to help the white guardian and the time lords a few times so maybe he and romana would work together on the sidelines doing tasks for the council.

fifth doctor: five is one of the doctors i’ve consumed the least content of tbh so he’s hard for me to place…ofc he’d be horrified by the war at first but i can see him being won over by seeing people hurt and maybe helping more on the political side of things??

sixth doctor:  six i can imagine becoming a troop leader and ordering people around loll.  of course he’d refuse to get involved originally but then he sees the battles and some less competent time lord captains letting their troops get killed and is like “you are like a little baby.  watch this” and takes tf over because he knows he can do it better and prevent more casualties 

seventh doctor:  hooo boy.  hoo boy.  i haven’t read the virgin new adventures so i feel like i can’t go too deep into any hcs about seven, but suffice to say that, as someone on my post about eight and the war noted- the time lords would definitely win.  but At What Cost. (alternate concept: seven creates his own faction and plan separate from the time lords and they don’t win….but neither do the daleks.  seven wins.  Seven Is the Only Winner And the Rest of The Universe Falls Into Oblivion)

eighth doctor: eight is the time war doctor to me, lol, and we’ve already gotten a fair amount of content about him in the war so that’s pretty self-explanatory….tbH after everything that happened to him i can really see him either A) giving up and going full darkside time lord victorious a la to the death or B) just fuckin.  letting himself be killed bc he doesn’t wanna do it anymore

not gonna go into the new who doctors bc idk i feel like so much of their personalities is informed by the fact that the time war happened to them??  so it’s hard to separate them from that…but if someone else wants to try, go ahead!!
