Tumblr media
“Look, Mr. Shimura,” you huff out as you speed walk to your office, “I’ve provided the magazine and blog with plenty of stories and amazing pictures of heroes over the years.” You sit down in your chair, securing the phone on your ear in the crook of your neck, “and you expect me to find a hero who went underground and was a social pariah just to get views? It’s immoral and way out of my pay grade!”
“You’re the best we have! And besides, you were the one that helped Japan see how wonderful Dynamight is while uncovering his relationship status.”
You sigh into the phone as you open a new document to begin brainstorming. “I had to do many favors for him and assure him of his and his partners safety. This story you're pitching sounds invasive and insensitive.” You may be a journalist, but you have morals. If this hero your boss is talking about wants to be left alone, then who are you to interrupt his peace? There’s gotta be a reason the brainwashing hero truly went underground and you’re content leaving him alone. Hell, you don’t even know what he looks like. No one has seen or heard from him in years. Maybe he wanted to keep it that way.
“I’ll give you a promotion.”
“Okay now you’re just desperate.”
Your boss laughs on the other line. “Oh you’re always so funny! I’m sure you know we’re not doing well in stocks, we’re almost bankrupt, and we need a story to put us on top again! And I think you can get us this story. And I’m not asking you. I’m telling you.” With the beeps in your ear, you’re cut out of the call as he hangs up the phone. You put your phone down and rub at your temples. This job could make or break you, and the thought of a promotion? Well you know you and your boyfriend were thinking of moving in together and could use the extra money to make that a reality.
Speaking of your boyfriend, you give him a call hoping he can help you with your moral decision. He picks up after a couple rings. “Hey babe, how are you? What’s going on?”
“I don’t know what to do. I got a new assignment and they want me to unearth an underground hero and just expose him.”
“Hmmm,” he pauses, “and you want to leave him alone because maybe he’s already at peace?”
You sigh and chuckle in relief that someone gets it. “Yes! That’s it exactly, maybe there’s a reason he went underground in the first place. So what if there’s a promotion and pay increase involved? I can’t do that-“
“A pay increase? You said yes right?”
You furrow your eyebrows in confusion and clutch your phone tighter. “I mean, I have no choice but I can’t do it. It wouldn’t be right and they only want this to reinvigorate the company-“
“So do it. I can help you find him. He’s the one with the brainwashing quirk right?”
“Ah yes but-“
He continues to interrupt you and go on. “Easy, I can send you the information I have about him and you can go find him. Think of it as a vacation! You can get out of town and I can spend time with Haruki and- ah fuck.” Your breath is caught in your throat at his slip up. “Ignore that last part,” he pleads, “I’ll send you what you need right away.” All your boyfriend hears is silence on the other end and your shallow breathing. “Baby girl?”
You try to shake off the shock of his words before you take a deep breath. “Who’s Haruki?” You wait for him to form the right words or deny his words. But all he did was fumble and try to say it was a one time thing and she didn’t mean anything. The day already wasn’t in your favor and thus just made everything much, much worse. “Shut up. Just….send me what I need and never talk to me again.”
“Baby, I-“
“I want your stuff out of my place. You’re right, I do need a vacation.”
******
Despite your recent break up, you’re thankful for the lead that asshole gave you in finding your story. Even your assistant said that doing this cover would be the break you and the company needs. As much as you didn’t want to do this, you still had a job and didn’t want to look for anything new. You rest your head back on the plane to try and get some rest before arriving in the new city.
All roads lead to the Saitama prefecture. It’s a pretty big area but you knew the right questions to ask to find someone. Your flight lands in the mid afternoon and your first destination is your hotel. The company didn’t put you in the most lavish arrangements but not wasn’t anything to sneeze at. Your room had a decent view and had enough room for you to spread out your work stuff and your for fun items. Knowing you’ll be there for a while, you make yourself at home as best you can as you unpack your belongings. After about 30 minutes of settling down, you sit down at the desk provided and open your laptop.
The cursor on the blank document irks you as inspiration evades you. You don’t even wanna write this expose but you couldn’t turn down a free much needed vacation. Maybe you could convince your boss to write about someone else? Why this guy? What’s so special about him? Just because he was treated badly because of his quirk? Once you think about your bosses intentions, you dial him angrily. “What’s the angle here? I still don’t understand why him? Can’t I just interview Eraserhead? No one has been able to get an interview with him in forever!”
“No,” he seethes. “It has to be Mind Jack. No exceptions, or you’re fired!”
You gasp when the threat of your livelihood is put in the fray. The stress of having to write this up begins to drive you crazy so instead of staying in your room you head out to explore. Maybe something about the area can help you find some inspiration? Maybe?
Unbeknownst to you, Mr. Shimura hired someone to make sure you don’t back out of the job. Sure it took extra money, but you’re his money maker and he needs to make sure you’re going to get this right. It’s all for the greater good, he muses to himself, as his PI sends him an update that you have left your hotel. It’s all for the greater good, it’s all for the greater good….

“Alright, perfect. You’re gonna get into that hero program no problem.”
The eager junior high schooler smiles brightly at her teacher as she fills out the application. “Thanks, Sensei! I couldn’t have done this without you. Whoops, gotta go. My mom is outside.” The student waves to her private teacher and heads home. The teacher in question sighs happily and sits back at his desk. He never thought that all his knowledge from being in a hero course and being a hero for a few years would lead him back home.
If you had told Shinsou Hitoshi, former brainwashing hero named Mind Jack, that he would be teaching after school lessons for kids who want to be heroes, specifically with mind related quirks he would’ve laughed. All he wanted was to be a hero, the first to take a taboo quirk and do good. Unfortunately, the world still wasn’t ready for it. Every mission he took was scrutinized and over analyzed, despite the good he was doing. His strength and combat couldn’t fight off the press and tabloids saying how he manipulated everyone at the commission to let him in. The scorching words and piercing looks were too much, so he hung up his costume, gave up his hero name, and moved back home. A former teacher of his from his primary school days contacted him after remembering him and offered him a position in the school system to help those like him. No one should ever be treated the way he was.
Shinsou cleans up his office and locks the door behind him, carrying his bag and heads off onto the street. There’s a nearby cat cafe he likes to frequent to help destress. He walks slowly today, thinking about his previous student and how he hopes she’s treated with better respect. Her quirk allows her to read the mind of those she wills to seek the truth and figure out what their moves are in combat. Before Shinsou returned home, the girl was ostracized for being able to read minds which could lead her to cheating on tests and similar acts. But now, she’s one of the best fighters in her prefecture and studies harder than anyone to make sure no one doubts her skills. He may be biased toward her, but he sees himself in her and wishes nothing but success for her.
The ding of the door and smell of cats wafts into his nose as he enters the cafe. The staff waves to him and he responds. “Shinsou-san,” the manager on duty calls out. “We’re a little crowded today, but there’s a young lady by herself if you don’t mind sharing.” The older woman points over to where you’re sitting and sees that you’re working on something. Shinsou sighs out a thank you and trods over to where you are. Your eyebrows stay furrowed as you stare at your laptop, inspiration still fleeting.
“You know, I usually sit in this corner.”
You’re shook from your stupor as you look up. At first, he’s one of the most attractive people you’ve ever seen. But then you see annoyance on his facial features and you recoil. “Ah, sorry,” you say, shrinking in on yourself. “Umm, but you can join me? There aren’t many seats open…”
Shinsou looks you over and quirks an eyebrow. You’re clearly not from here, you must be a Tokyo woman coming for a slower lifestyle. Whatever, he muses, not like he’s in a rush to head home. “Sure,” he huffs as he pulls out the chair opposite you. He then picks up a menu, scanning it but already knowing what to order to take the time to observe you. You must be working on something, otherwise you wouldn’t look so stressed out. He notes the agitated tapping of your heel as you cutely bite your lip. Wait cute? He quickly shakes his head before begrudgingly deciding to spark a conversation. “You’re not from here, are you?”
You peak up from your laptop and sheepishly close it. “You’re observant,” you comment. “I’m supposed to be looking for somebody.”
“Ominous, but I’m intrigued.” Shinsou scoots his chair closer to the table. “And just exactly who are you looking for?”
You hesitate slightly, not wanting to reveal your true intentions to a total stranger. You deliberate for a couple seconds before you give the attractive man in front of you an answer. “Honestly? I have no idea. All I know is that he’s from the Saitama prefecture.”
Shinsou hisses his teeth in displeasure and smirks at you. “That’s rough, there’s way too many people here for that and it’s pretty big. Is that really your only lead?”
You let out a breath and rest your chin in your hand. “I know! And the worst part is I don’t even wanna write this story. My boss is pushing it or I’ll get fired.”
That catches his attention, seeing your face sink at the mention of being fired. “So you’re a writer? Written anything I might’ve read?”
You shrug at his banter. “Eh, I don’t like to talk about my work all that much. It just pays the bills. I hate that I’m good at it.” You pout at your dismay and Shinsou attempts to hide the uptick of the corner of his mouth. It looks like you could use a vacation. He relaxes in the chair as the waiter comes to take your orders. “You come here often?”
“I’m practically a regular, it’s one of my favorite places to unwind after a stressful day.”
You chuckle and hold his gaze. “You don’t strike me as a cat person.”
“And you don’t strike me as a tabloid journalist.”
Your eyes widen and jaw drops as he finds out your title. “How? How did you-“
“I can also tell you like stickers, since your laptop is covered in them including one of the company.” His smug smirk first has your cheeks warming but then you grumble and put your laptop away before taking an angry sip. Your face softens at the taste of your order and you visibly relax. The man in front of you snickers before putting his mug down. “The lavender chai is a good one, one of my personal favorites.”
“I can see why,” you add on, continuing to enjoy the flavor. “Can I be open with you?” He nods and you place your mug down gently. “I don’t wanna write this story. What I really wanna write about is about the average person with a quirk deemed unhelpful. Or about the quirkless. You know, society puts so much on heroes with physical quirks and it’s just-“
“Unfair that those with non-physical or mutation quirks get the bad end of the stick?”
“Exactly,” you excitedly respond. You hadn’t gotten this hype over talking about a subject since Mr. Shimura asked you to cover a hero wedding. You can feel your heart beating with excitement but remember how that excitement and passion doesn’t pay the bills or get you promoted. You hadn’t realized you were hovering over your seat until you say back down again, coughing to cover your slight embarrassment. “Sorry,” you apologize, “I can get really excited about this topic and I haven’t talked to anyone about it.”
Shinsou grins softly at you and motions for you to give him your phone. You pull it out and hand it to him, looking at him quizzically. “Here’s my number,” he rasps before handing back your phone. “Hit me up if you ever want to talk about this more. Maybe that can be your story. Screw whatever your boss says.” With that, he gets up from the table and waves you off, offering to cover the tab on his way out. You sit back in the chair and get your laptop back out. You begin to type out your glowing thoughts and shoot him a message. On your document you have:
“Shinsou Hitoshi: just who are you?”
….
Minutes after you leave, a figure you haven’t seen before walks out as well and makes a call. “It seems she’s made contact. I don’t think she’s aware of who he is. She’ll get the story and you’ll get your money.”
******
After a few weeks of being in the prefecture and the city it’s named after, you and Shinsou have gotten closer. He’s shown you around town and even invited you to some of the lessons he teaches. You were shocked to see how well versed in combat he is and honestly it was kinda sexy. He was so soft spoken but so assertive and dominant in a way that had you admiring him and wanting him. There’s this allure to him you can’t quite describe and it has you wanting to know more.
But all the while you couldn’t help but feel as if someone had been following you. It was a feeling you’ve had ever since you had arrived, no matter what you did it felt like someone was tailing you. Especially when you were hanging out with Shinsou. Despite that feeling, you had done your best to facilitate meaningful and reactionary interactions with the male. You couldn’t quite describe it, the chemistry between you two, but it was something that kept egging you on for more reactions, to see what other options and possibilities there were. You’ve never felt this way with anyone and it was terrifying. Not even your ex could manage to create this kind of connection. It was exhilarating.
You didn’t mean to stay for this long, but there was something about this place and him. You’re so wrapped up in the whirlwind of it all you’ve forgotten your assignment completely. At this point, you’re just writing about quirk representation and how it should be better. Sure it’s improved, but there’s still a long way to go.
And Shinsou was the one providing you with this new insight.
The former hero had been trying to figure out just what exactly it was that had
One beautiful day you're cooped inside your hotel room, realizing that all you’ve written about is him and all the things he stands for. You’ve been considering just making the story about him and his adventures outside of being a hero. You find it strange that he hasn’t revealed his quirk to you, but maybe he doesn’t have one or would rather not discuss it. Surprisingly, you weren’t one to pry into his life and you revel in it. Completely forgetting about your original assignment, you do a quick search on the internet to quell your curiosity. So far all the results show where he went to high school, where he’s from, what he teaches… but nothing about a hero name.
You think maybe you’ve researched and interviewed him but surely you would remember his face? You think back to conversations you’ve had with him over the last few weeks:
“Getting into the hero course wasn’t easy for me. I had my idol as my senpai and had such a far way to go.
“UA was a good time, I enjoyed it and made some of my best friends there. Although I didn’t want to make friends, they all wanted to be nice to me…
“You know, a lot of the students could use more help with conducting interviews and writing. Are you sure you can’t stay longer?
“I hope you find whoever you’re looking for, they sure are lucky to have someone like you looking for them…
“I’m not usually this open about my past, but for some reason I feel like I can tell you anything.
“Are we still on for dinner tonight?”
That last question he has asked you about an hour ago and you had said yes, excitement coursing through your veins. You shake your head at your unusual giddiness and let out a puff of frustration. You shouldn’t be feeling this way for someone so soon! There’s no way…. Feeling a little pent up, you search harder in order to try and surprise him with something regarding his old hero name. You scavenge what information UA is able to provide until you find something related to a teacher from there. From the looks and explanation, the name is Eraserhead. An underground hero you also admired, you were unaware he took on any protégés. As you stumble through some photos you see it and you gasp out loud. That’s for sure a gray less Eraserhead, but that’s also a young Shinsou Hitoshi. The label underneath shocks you the most.
Aizawa Shouta with newly graduated hero Mind Jack, brainwashing hero.
You slam your laptop shut and step outside onto your balcony. The rules and parameters of your assignment are suddenly flooding your senses. He’s the one you’ve been looking for? The wayward and looked over hero? You knew looking into whoever this is was going to be bad. And now there’s no way you can go through with the story. And you have to tell him the truth. With how close you’ve gotten it would hurt him if he found out from someone else.
As frustration sets in, you quickly shoot him a text to ask to meet in the lobby of your hotel. He responds even quicker.
“Is everything okay? You sound frantic.”
You bite your lip and twirl around before slamming your hands on the bed. Shinsou has no right being as nice and caring as he is! The entirety of Japan shunned him and made him hideaway forever. How completely unfair to him. You think the world should know who he is now and then judge later. You’ve decided, you’re changing your angle. Your boss can reprimand you later but there’s no way you can let this story run. Despite the gut feeling that someone’s been following you, you call your boss and tell him you’re writing about something different with confidence.
However, something felt off when he hung up. “Oh well that’s alright. You won’t get fired, but thank you for making the magazine relevant again.” Making it relevant? Just what did that mean? You urge yourself to shake off the eerie feeling and go down to the lobby. You promise you’re going to tell him everything, and fingers crossed he doesn’t hate you and actually understands.
Upon entering the lobby, you’re bombarded with photographers and bright lights, the lobby a buzz with stirring action. You can barely get your words out at the billion questions being thrust your way. Their words are muddled as you scan above and ahead of you to locate Shinsou. When you finally see the familiar mop of purple hair, a genuine smile comes to your face as you break free. With elbows front, you push your way through the crowd to find him. You call out to him but stop short when you see a familiar yet unfamiliar presence shake his hand. Your eyebrows furrow and you realize that your eerie feeling has been coming from him. “Shinsou!” You happily call out and see him turn toward you. His expression is not one you were not expecting to see. “Hitoshi?”
“Don’t call me that.”
You retract back at the malice in his hiss. You try to place a hand on his shoulder. “S-Shinsou I don’t understand. What’s going on?”
He aggressively shrugs off your hand and steps back, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You were using me. That’s why you were so interested in me.”
You begin to shake your head in disbelief, feeling your lips start to tremble. “That, that’s not true! I really wanted to get to know you. Who was that guy you were with?”
“Tch, like you don’t know,” he comments with a roll of his eyes.
“No I don’t,” you quickly quip back, crossing your arms and cocking your hip. “Please enlighten me.”
Shinsou grunts and steps closer to you to make sure you hear everything, his voice low and accusatory. “He said he’s a friend of Mr. Shimura. Said he was keeping tabs on you to make sure your assignment is going smoothly…”
“W-wait Shinsou, it’s not what you think-“
“Stop lying to me! You were looking for me, weren’t you? You knew who I was the moment you met me. And for what? To bring me out of hiding for further ridicule?”
Tears cascade down your cheeks, head still shaking left to right. This can’t be happening. Why does this hurt as much as it does? Why won’t he listen to you? “P-please let me explain!” Your voice and lips tremble as you do your best to say what you need to say. “I didn’t know who you were when I met you, I swear! And yes, originally I was supposed to come find you and write some expose but,” you pause when you see the hurt and betrayal in his beautiful eyes. You wish he would stop looking at you like that, like you broke his most precious item. “Please, I was going to change my story. You have to believe me. I didn’t even wanna write this story in the first place!”
“Then why the hell are you here?”
That made your breath hitch in your throat. You had never really thought about why you had stayed. You could have easily left because you didn’t wanna do your story, knowing your boss was fronting the lodging costs. Originally you needed to get out because of the breakup, but you found yourself loving being here in Saitama City. You loved being somewhere where there were no expectations of or for you, and where everyone truly wanted you around and not needed. It was like your body had found the right balance it needed.
You fell in love with the city.
You fell in love with him.
You steel your nerves as you feel your eyes cloud over with an unreadable expression. The words you never wanted to say again, but are willing to as you feel the stares of the hotel staff and paparazzi behind you. “Because I’m good at my job. Thank you for your time, and I hope,” your voice cracks then, “I hope you will read our magazine for all things heroes and celebrities.”
You turn around and blend into the midst of the crowd, not daring to look back so no one could see the tears fall once more. Once back at your room, you call the front desk to let them know you’ll be checking out in the morning. Soon after a knock comes to your door and you slowly answer it. You’re engulfed in a hug from the front desk worker who’s become a confidant. You hug her back and let your tears come out.
“Please don’t leave, we all love you here and I know he does too,” she begs. “You seem so relaxed and you here. And sure you messed up but I know you didn’t have bad intentions.” You wipe your face and meet her loving gaze.
“But I have to.”
“No you don’t! The hopeless romantic in me couldn’t deny the absolute chemistry between the two of you. I know you felt something. Sure, the reaction right now wasn’t what either of you wanted but we live to love!” Her words fall on your deaf ears as you step back into your room. Before you close the door, you whisper to her. “Maybe we aren’t the right chemicals for each other.”
******
Shinsou Hitoshi had never felt so used or humiliated in his life. He doesn’t even bother to look for you as you blend into the crowd. Using his always on hand binding weapon, he makes his escape to where the press can no longer follow him. However, he thinks back to that PI who most likely has his address and thinks it best to not go home; his place of work also out of the running. As he perches on top of a building, he knows a friend he can crash with that lives in Tokyo after making it big.
“Oh Shinsou! What’s going on?”
The tired man sighs into the phone. “Monoma, can I crash at your place?”
Monoma agrees and quickly hangs up so Shinsou can begin his journey. He hasn’t had to use all of his stamina in a long time so he’s gotta be ready now that people are looking for him. This is exactly why he went home, he didn’t want to be found. He wanted to be left alone!
And then you came along.
You came along and turned his world upside down. It was only a few weeks but it felt like he knew you a lifetime. No one should have these strong feelings for someone they just met, right? No one can get that lucky, especially not him. He can feel the strings of his heart ache as he canvases rooftops and skyscrapers before making it to Monoma’s place right outside of Tokyo. Luckily when he dropped out of the hero world, most people who had associated with him have no longer been hounded by the paparazzi for his whereabouts. Let alone someone like the new 24 hero Monoma Neito.
Shinsou drops down to the balcony of the apartment and rearranges his binding cloth around his shoulders. He knocks in a familiar rhythm, alerting Monoma to come to the sliding door. “Come in, come in.” The blond ushers him inside and sits down on the couch next to him. “It’s rare for you to call me out of the blue. What happened?”
Shinsou sighs, truly dropping the weight of his emotions and circumstance. He interlocks his fingers as his eyes attach to the ceiling in search of some pattern amongst the miscellaneous lines. “I got found.” Monoma stays quiet, a shock to anyone who knows him, silently urging his friend to continue. With everything he and his friends did to keep him safe, it makes no sense that this would happen. Shinsou’s identity had been kept safe for so long, just what happened?
“I,” Shinsou croaks out. “I met someone. At my usual place and she seemed normal. And she was, is, I mean. I can’t believe I was stupid enough to open myself to someone like that. I had vowed never to open myself up like that again. But she made it so easy, like the perfect balance of mixtures.” Shinsou pauses and places a hand behind his neck in frustration.
Monoma quirks up an eyebrow. “She? The lady you’ve been telling me about? That’s what got you like this?” He can’t help but smirk mischievously at his friend, knowing full well what Shinsou’s feelings really are. But who is he to spoil the fun? “You know they’re not “you know who” right?”
“I know she isn’t like them, but…” he trails off, “she lied to me.” He pushes himself off the couch and faces the wall, unable to look his friend in the face. “She’s a tabloid reporter, journalist, whatever. She was sent here to find me and dig me out of hiding. It was all for her stupid job and money. She never cared about me just like the world never cared. And I thought she,” he stops in an attempt to hold back tears. “I thought she cared.”
Monoma hums trying to find the right words to comfort his dear friend. “Shin, what about everything else you two did? Did you hear her side of the story?”
“I didn’t need to. She’s as bad and fake as everyone else-“
“Well pardon me,” Monoma interrupts, “but it sounds like you didn’t hear her side. Did she say all of this to you?”
“Uh, well, no. I had heard it from someone else but she basically confirmed it. Tried saying that her mind had changed and she didn’t know or something.” Shinsou’s voice and resolve lower as he thinks back to your expression earlier in the day. You looked so sad, like you wanted him to believe you. Like he wanted the world to believe his quirk was good. But how is he supposed to trust you?
“Neito,” he breathes, “you haven’t seen the headlines or heard the questions the paps were asking. If I was dating her, if she was the reason I went underground. Or stupid shit like "Did I brainwash everyone here?!””
Shinsou punches the wall in frustration, not caring for the marks and dent on the wall and certainly not the throb of pain in his hand. Monoma continues to sit there in revered silence as he lets his friend air out his frustrations. He’s interrupted Shinsou before and that is a memory he wishes to never recreate.
Shinsou breathes again and caresses his hand as the pain settles in. “You know how I felt like oil in water my whole life and that I couldn’t breathe or fit in. She took all of that away. I felt like I was floating whenever I was with her, like everything in my life finally reacted the way I wanted.
“And then, the weight of reality came back and screwed everything up. That perfect puzzle piece that got ruined. I can’t see her ever again.”
Monoma drops his jaw at his friends rambling. For all the years the blond has known him, he’s never talked about a person in such great detail. His instinct is to find you and have Shinsou repeat these exact words to you. He watches Shinsou trudge into the guest room and slam the door. He runs a hand through his hair and dials his partner. “Hey sweetie, I can’t make it tonight…yeah he’s here…do what you can to lessen the damage for his sake. He’s a wreck right now and will need some time. But that’s why I’m the best friend!”
…..
Shinsou didn’t leave the apartment for three days. Your calls and texts went unanswered and ignored. Monoma was getting restless at his friend's despair and isolation. During that time, Monoma had stopped by Shinsou’s apartment to bring some of his stuff and was fiercely told to not touch anything. Of course, the blond being who he is, he picked up a couple things that weren’t on the list. The thing that stood out to him was a set of photo booth pictures.
Monoma had to admit you’re beautiful, but what was more beautiful was seeing the expression on his best friend's face as he looked at you. It was like you were the only person in his world. Monoma remembers that day of the fair and how Shinsou was buzzing him of all people of his excitement. Just who are you and what have you done with his best friend?
He stored the picture in his wallet and brought what he needed to his place to help the saddened former hero. When he had returned, Shinsou had grumbled and took his things. It was like pulling teeth to get him to open up about your name but that was all the lilac eyed man was willing to disclose. That was fine with Monoma, mostly because on this third day he claims to be going out for a while. It would be remiss to say that he noticed your name pop up multiple times on Shinsou’s phone, followed by other friends and his mentor. However, no one had broken through to him.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Monoma leaves the apartment for the first time in three days since taking care of Shinsou. And his first destination is your office.
He thinks it’s funny that the cloud filled skies cover the height of the building you work in. It’s also funny, ironically, that the paparazzi are still posted outside asking for more about the former briainwashing hero as if what they were given wasn’t enough. Clearly it wasn’t. With his head held high, Monoma walks into the tabloid’s office and waltzes to reception. “Excuse me,” he starts, “I’m looking for a certain writer that wrote something about my friend.”
The lady in front of him doesn’t react until she looks up and her eyes go wide. “Phantom Thief! To what do we owe the pleasure? Uh, right you said that. You’re a friend of Mind Jack, right?” She types away to look for your new office number and chimes with a smile when she recites the number to the hero in front of her. Monoma thanks her and heads to the elevator. As the doors close, he misses the receptionist call someone to alert, most likely, the press of his presence. The whole time he’s thought of everything he’s wanted to say to you, never having met you ever. You’re either the best or worst thing that has ever happened to one Shinsou Hitoshi.
Without knocking, he walks into your office. You gasp at the intrusion and look up from your computer. You stand up upon realization and suddenly your throat has run dry. “Ph-Phantom Thief, how can I help you?” Before Monoma introduces himself, he takes in the scene around him. He’s not sure what your office was like before, but he has a feeling it was smaller than this. You’ve got a beautiful view of Musutafu, despite it being rainy. Your desk is covered in files and paperwork, potentially contracts with clients and other important figures. It may appear to be put together, but he knows a stressed and strewn out office when he sees one. Sharp aqua eyes catch a cat plush he’s sure he’s seen before, along with some mugs reminiscent of ones Shinsou has in his abode. But the one thing that catches his eye is a small frame of you and Shinsou sitting atop a cabinet. There’s no doubt about it in his mind, he’s made the right decision coming here. “I’m sorry it’s such a mess, I’ve been living here for a couple days. I’m too afraid to go home.”
A genuine smile comes to Monoma’s face as he approaches you. “You have nothing to apologize for, dear. I just wanted to talk to you.”
That piques your interest and you slowly sit back down. “To me? What about? Are you going to be like all the other heroes giving me shit? I didn’t want to do it! I don’t ever want to write about another hero, current or former, ever again.” You fight back tears as you swivel away in your chair. The blond relaxes in his seat before he stands up to kneel in front of you. He takes your hands into his and grins at you.
“I can see why he was so taken with you,” he breathes out. That catches your attention and you straighten your posture. You’re about to say something but he cuts you off. “He didn’t send me here to yell at you. Actually, he has no idea I’m here! I wanted to see you for myself.”
You pull your hands away from him, seemingly closing yourself off to him and maybe anyone who tries to get closer to you. Faintly, you hear the clacking of shoes and murmuring of voices as you assume the worst. But it can’t be any worse than how you feel right now. Let the press see you with another hero, you don’t care anymore. Let them stir up stories and concoctions about you that aren’t true for a reaction. “I ruined him,” you manage to say. “I forgot, I forgot that my boss gets immediate updates of everything…it was a shared document I mean, how could I forget? And he,” your voice raises and you rest on your feet, “he had someone follow me to make sure I was writing! Who does that? I know I’m his money maker but I would never, ever intentionally hurt Shinsou Hitoshi.” By this point, your emotions are on full display for the man in front of you and the press outside your office. You’re sure they heard your words as you practically screamed them. Your eyes search the hero’s in front of you, desperately looking for the belief that you had wanted from someone else. “Please, I lo- ah I really care about him.” You can’t meet his eyes as you whisper that last part. Your fingers come to your lips when realization hits. You almost said you love him, a man you had only known for almost a month. Is that even possible?
Monoma catches your slip up and gently smiles, knowing your head is a commotion of thoughts. He’s really glad he had set his phone to record the whole conversation. But not happy about the crowd and cameras outside your office. He steps up to you to lift your chin. “I know. You should let him know, I think he needs to hear it.” He moves away as the sound in your office suddenly gets louder. You shoot your head up when it’s then silenced again. Your jaw drops and you stand up again.
“Sh-Shinsou?”
In the doorway stands a breathless Shinsou in his old hero gear. His hair presses against the sweaty skin of his brow as his gaze holds onto you. His stance falters at the sight of his friend and rolls his eyes, knowing he didn’t accidentally butt dial him. The paparazzi seems to be captivated by his presence. And so are you. He looks amazing and so natural like this. This is the Shinsou Hitoshi you want everyone to know and love. You struggle to find the right words to say to him. “Why, why are you here? He told me that you didn’t…”
“Idiot butt dialed me.”
You laugh and feel relief at hearing his voice again. His calming and baritone voice that you have become so used to that you never wanna be without it again. He takes a hesitant step toward you and you mimic his actions.
“He left your-“
“I have so much to-“
You both talk at the same time, chuckling nervously as you look away from each other. You speak again, “you start.”
Shinsou grins and nods. “I had heard him on the train and once I saw his location I followed him. I thought the idiot was in trouble so I left it on just in case. Wouldn’t be the first time he’s needed saving.”
Monoma scoffs. “This isn’t about me!”
“Anyway,” Shinsou rings in, “I kept my earbuds in to listen and was about 20 minutes away when he muttered the location of your office before he walked in.
“I heard everything you said.”
He steps forward cautiously, highly aware of the cameras and paparazzi behind him. At this moment, he doesn’t particularly care. Sure, he wanted to stay away from the limelight. But since you’ve entered his life, all he wants to do is spend time with you and make each other better. You care about his interests and what he cares about. Everything that he’s made his career about and his focus you support and want to make better. You actually care about non physical quirks and their usefulness and what they can provide to society. And to boot, you’re exquisite. You’re beautiful. He’s never fallen for someone so genuinely and hard.
“Shinsou, please. I need you to listen. I didn’t want any of this to happen,” you beg and plead.
“I know,” he whispers.
“A-and I’m sorry I lied to you! I didn’t know you were who I was looking for until the day in the lobby. I didn’t mean to hurt you!”
Shinsou steps closer and gently cups your face. “I know.”
“I never meant for this to happen,” you continue to babble. “I never knew I would love the town so much and you’re just amazing and- mmf!”
The sound of furious clicks and oh’s are drowned out as all you can hear are his hums and your heartbeats. His lips are soft and perfect against yours. You have no idea how long you have waited to kiss the man in front of you, but now it’s finally happening. You wrap your arms around his neck, his hands falling to your waist. He pulls you closer and you can’t help but feel like this is meant to be. It’s like the perfect concoction of chemicals making the fireworks go off in your head and heart.
You finally breakaway and you gaze up into his eyes, getting lost in the our home haze that is Shinsou Hitoshi. His smile is so full of love and genuine affection that you’re in awe. His touch is so delicate as he traces your cheek with a chuckle. By now, it’s hard to ignore the flashing lights and murmurs of the people, as well as the buzzing of your phone as you’re sure this is trending right now.
You then look toward the crowd and cough. “Umm, could you leave? I’m sure you’ve got a good enough story for your magazine.” The receptionist nods and starts to escort everyone out but someone bursts through the crowd in a frenzy.
“No! Keep the cameras rolling! This is going to make the company rich! My writer and the disgraced hero! It’s perfect!”
Your boss breaks through the midst with a crazed look. Shinsou’s eyes lock onto his new target as they darken over. He lets you go and approaches the man that has messed up your lives. Mr. Shimura cowers as the taller man corners him, ignoring the increase in sound again. “I’m not going to use my quirk on you, but you better listen.” Your boss nods quickly. “You are going to get these paparazzi out of here, get rid of the story, promote the love of my life, and do whatever story she wants to do. Got it?” Shimura’s head acts like a bobble head as he escorts the invaders of your office away and does everything he can to ease the burden on you. You blink slowly at the strong man in front of you, taking a deep breath when you realize you had been holding your breath for so long. You almost lose your balance when Shinsou comes back to your side with a sheepish grin.
“I hope that didn’t startle you, kitten.”
And incomes the next time you almost fall over. Kitten? You can get used to that. You really can get used to it. You shake your head dumbfoundedly, now realizing that you’re alone. It seems Monoma had also left with the crowd. “Shinsou…”
“It’s Hitoshi to you.”
You giggle shyly and reach out to hold his hand. He takes it and kisses the back of your hand. His eyebrows raise from your hand and his chuckles are hidden behind your hand. He pulls you in and starts to sway with you to the melody in your head. He breaks the silence with his baritone voice. “I’m not sure how it happened, but I’ve never met anyone like you. I think I'm falling in love with you. Come back to Saitama City?”
You interlock his fingers with his and nod into his embrace. He kisses your forehead as you hug him tight. “As long as you don’t mind having a leading journalist as your girlfriend.” Shinsou snickers and pecks your lips two times before resting his forehead against yours.
“I don’t mind at all, if you don’t mind a disgraced hero.”

he was never the soft lover type. he's never been a "lover" at all. the best peek he got at romantic love was seeing everyone around him fall head over heals. his family, his classmates, almost all his friends are in happy relationships too.
in a typical rom-com, he would be the sad, lonely side character. the grumpy killjoy if you would. he fits the role quite well. that was until he met you. the one person who'd quite literally turn his world upside down.
it hasn't been long but he's already fallen for you. and he fell hard. his tough exterior faltered every time you were even in a meter radius from him. he stuttered in each conversation you had, and his cheeks would turn a hundred shades of red whenever your eyes met.
that would be great if only you were actually in his league. you were sunshine, and he was a literal rain cloud. coming to the conclusion that he never had a chance with you, he gave up. he resorted to completely shut down any kind of relationship he already had with you.
now he was at the farthest corner of the room whenever you walk in. his replies were cold and short whenever you talked to him, and if it was a sport, he'd be a gold medalist at avoiding your gaze no matter what.
he kept that up until you came to him one day with your brows furrowed and tears in your eyes. he was swallowed by guilt when you confronted him. though even when you were mad, you could never find it in you to scream in his face or cuss him out. and he hated that.
despite your tears and pleading, he's never going to tell you how he really felt. someone like you ending up with someone like him will only be a loss on your part. and he knew he didn't deserve the glory of being yours.

.・。.・゜✭・.✫・゜・。.
You turned off the engine of the car, taking in the area that surrounded you and your best friend. You knew that Kaminari had been able to make a career off of just YouTube alone but this exceeded your expectations as to how he lived. Sure it wasn’t the most impressive neighborhood you’ve been invited to, but it sure as hell didn’t seem like a neighborhood you or Hitoshi could afford to live at in this moment in your lives.
You take a breath, then turn to Hitoshi who was busying himself on his phone, probably being too invested by people arguing on twitter.
“Hey.”
His brown eyes were suddenly looking into your eyes, there was an anxious look in his eyes, but he hid it well. Hitoshi rose an eyebrow at you, probably already annoyed by the fact that he knows you’re going to say something that might make him feel emotions.
“Thank you for coming with, I love you.”
A small blush fell on his cheeks before he reached out and shoved your face away from him. You started laughing at his emotional constipation, which only made him continue to mess with you. You were quickly able to get his hands away from you, just one of the pros of why you go to the gym. The two of you headed out of the car and walked up the driveway, making small comments about the interesting decorations that littered the front porch. In a way it reminded you of the shared home you had with Hitoshi, admiring the pride flag that hung proudly blowing in the wind. Hitoshi rang the doorbell, and after hearing an absurd amount of noise coming from the other side of the door (Taylor’s version from the vault) the door swung right open.
“Hey y/n!”
Kaminari had a wide grin on his face, and was wearing black sweatpants and a band t-shirt. You quickly greeted the blond back, before squinting at his shirt to get a better look. Your eyes widened as a sly smile spread across your face realizing it was a Foo Fighters shirt, knowing that was one of Hitoshi’s favorite bands. You were tempted to point it out for your best friend but you made the conclusion that even if you said something you didn’t think either of them would notice.
To say that Kaminari had heart eyes, was an understatement. You don’t think you’ve even seen someone in a rom-com look that head over heals, and of course looking at your best friend you swear you could see hearts circling around Hitoshi’s head.
“Hey Shinsou, I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“You can call me Hitoshi.”
To a stranger, Hitoshi maybe just looked a little off his game, but after knowing this man for seven years you could easily tell how flustered he truly was. Kaminari was flushed with a big goofy grin on his face while Hitoshi’s posture was unlike you’ve ever seen him stand. It was pretty funny, seeing them give each other heart eyes.
“Oh, well uhm Hitoshi-“
“Hey Guys! Welcome to the crib!”
Kirishima, as loud and energetic as ever, popped up out of what seemed like nowhere. He was wearing gym clothes, athletic shorts and a tank top, but from what you can tell that’s probably just what his entire closet is full of. Kirishima’s grin stretched across his face with his arm draping around Kaminari. Though there was a sudden interruption, Kaminari didn’t seem to want to look away, while Hitoshi started to look away and peek into the home.
“How many people are here right now?”
You watched as Kaminari’s face fell, his love trance quickly falling, suddenly nervous to make Hitoshi uncomfortable.
“Yeah oh god y/n I completely forgot to tell you.”
You were honestly surprised that Kaminari would be taking to you again. You smiled politely grabbing for Hitoshi’s arm to keep him from bursting into the house uninvited. Hitoshi has a habit of not caring what others think of him, not that you think Kaminari would care. The blond would probably let Hitoshi do whatever he wanted and he would still be looking at your best friend like he was the only thing that matters in the world.
“It’s okay, you gave me a heads up beforehand. Now, can we come in?”
Kaminari’s face flushed, shoving Kirishima out of the way making you snort. You let go of Hitoshi and let him go in first, following close behind him.
Immediately you found ruby red eyes glaring into yours. It was almost laughable how quickly you spotted him, and as soon as you found comfortable eye contact he looked away.
You rolled your eyes. You should have known better he wouldn’t actually act like he knows you, especially because just a couple weeks ago your tongue was practically in his throat.
“Hey y/n! Shinsou! Come sit with us!”
Mina was sitting on the floor, back to the couch with Sero sitting on the couch behind her. You honestly have never really talked to Sero, but he always seemed like the kind of person you could come up to and strike up a conversation with no problem.
This time around, Hitoshi stays behind you, letting you make the first move. You wanted to laugh at how awkward the two of you were being, desperately hoping that they didn’t notice.
After a little more small talk, you all were able to sit around the coffee table, keeping your distance with Bakugou, and open up your laptop and start up the editing software.
“Holy shit! I forget how beautiful Katsuki is!”
It seemed those words left Kaminari’s mouth before he thought through the consequences of what could happen. Immediately the whole room bursted into laughter. Bakugou’s face went bright red, but you were probably the only person to notice because your eyes immediately fell to his figure when Kaminari made that comment. He caught you staring, but you challenged him with keeping eye contact and a wild smile.
“Yeah he’s definitely perfect for his job.” You kept eye contact, enjoying how his blush became more apparent.
His friends made a couple more jokes, but Kaminari quickly recovered and started to talk you through editing. Hitoshi sat on the chair behind you while you and Kaminari sat on the floor. Hitoshi and Kaminari were obnoxiously flirting the entire time, and you soon noticed that Kirishima and Mina also seemed to be head over heels with each other.
Besides all the flirting, it really was a nice time. Having serious conversations about your job and being able to talk to people who actually seemed to be interested in you. You also worried that they wouldn’t get you and Hitoshi’s rude comments or dry humor, but thankfully the two of you fit right in.
You noticed Bakugou seemed to get more and more comfortable, being able to read his body language throughout the hang out. Watching his biceps flex underneath his cuffed t-shirt sleeve, even enjoying the fact he was wearing (gray) sweatpants.
Suddenly, the fact that you’ve been so bold hits you like a punch to the gut and you feel yourself get shy. You weren’t interested in a relationship right now. Especially not with your client that the only spark you created was when the two of you were drunkenly making out at a party like a couple of horny high schoolers.
“Hey y/n did you know that Katsuki can cook?”
You snapped out of your inner thoughts, turning your head to Mina and the wicked smile she was shooting you. You cocked an eyebrow at her, putting your elbow up on Hitoshi’s lap behind you. He immediately put his hands on your arm, fiddling with the bracelets on your wrist.
“Wow so he can pose in front of a camera and make a meal? Now that’s a whole package.”
Kaminari and Sero were giggling like a kid. You honestly were enjoying how well this evening was going, especially how happy your best friend seemed to be.
Mina chuckled at your comment but continued. “It’s more than a meal y/n, it’s an experience.”
Her smile was wide, and there was a sparkle in your eye as she leaned toward you. When Kirishima came into the house with you, he stole Sero’s spot behind Mina, making him able to take her shoulders and lean her away.
You smiled gently at their domestic lifestyle, then turned to Bakugou.
“You wanna show me what you got?”
Thirty minutes later, filled with constant bickering between you and the ash blond, dinner was on the table for your friends. The two of you served something simple yet delicious, panang curry. Everyone seemed very happy for actual food in front of them, and the whole group ate so much they were scraping the food off their plate. You and Bakugou shared a small victory smile, and you soon realized how well you two work together.
Throughout the process of making the food, Bakugou always had something to say at your style of cooking, but you did catch him looking at how you did certain things. Besides that fact, it was quite nice being able to cook with someone who didn’t have a chance to burn down the whole house (aka your entire friend group), and being able to watch everyone interact with each other and yourself. Sero was sat in a seat that made him closer to you, starting up casual conversation with you. You couldn’t say you didn’t blame him, given the fact that Mina and Kirishima were annoyingly flirting, along with now Hitoshi and Kaminari. However, you felt as if you were possibly doing the same with the so-called cook that was right next to you. There was plenty of space for the two of you to be far away from each other and not brushing hands by accident, but you always found Bakugou right next to you. His body heat radiating off of him and onto you. You unwillingly thought of what it would like to be with him, your delusional mind making up some sort of fantasy living with him and doing this every night. You desperately shooed that thought away, not wanting to catch feelings for him. You had been through so much this past year, you didn’t want all your hard work to be ruined by some relationship. You were the type to put your all into someone, and somehow it always ended up with you being heart broken.
“I knew that Denki had a thing for purple hair over there, but I didn’t think it was that sickening.”
Bakugou’s voice was low, head down but near you so you could hear. The two of you decided to clean up the mess you made, wiping the counter and washing the dishes. The group insisted on helping out but you and Bakugou made them sit and watch the movie they picked out. Turns out neither you or Bakugou enjoyed the movie so it worked out. (You decided not to think about that yet another common interest you two shared).
You smiled at his comment, grateful that someone else noticed how disgustingly in love they seemed.
“I always had a thought Toshi liked Kaminari, but I never pushed it because he isn’t really the type to talk about feelings like that, so I never asked.”
Your focus was on the dish in your hands, but out of the corner of your eye you noticed Bakugou’s head rise to look at you.
“Really? Little miss ‘let’s make a dream board on how I feel about this certain color’ is best friends with someone who doesn’t like to talk about his feelings?”
His words were teasing, but just like that conversation a couple days ago in the meeting room, his tone was curious, wanting to know more.
You just chuckled, putting the plate on the drying rack next to the sink. You watched as Bakugou moved to the oven, where there were towels resting on the handle. It honestly cracked you up to see the built, handsome and ever stoic man with using a dish towel that said “when in doubt, pull out” with an oven on it but clearly the boys bought it for a completely different reason. You made a mental note to ask the boys where they got it from.
“Well you know what they say Bakugou, opposites attract.”
You smiled sweetly at him, but not really thinking about him. Your mind went back to the first day you and your best friend met.
It was the summer before college, you were moving in early because you were desperate to leave the house. Turns out your roommate and soon to be close friend, Ochako, had the same idea. The two of you got along very quickly, and she soon explained to you that her friend group from high school were still very close and she asked you if you wanted to hang out with them. You were not yet the person you were today, still shy and an anxious mess. You felt as if that idea was a bad one. You feared that you would be awkward and out of place the whole time. Let’s be honest, an entire friend group that can survive high school and still want to hang out together were very close. You felt as if you’d be interrupting those good vibes and would stick out like a sore thumb. However, that was when you realized Ochako was a very persuasive person, and somehow you found yourself at a small coffee shop with six other people. At the time, Izuku and Shoto were a new couple, and Momo and Jirou weren’t even together, neither was Ochako and Tenya.
Then, there was Hitoshi. Ochako explained that he came in a little later, someone Izuku had to practically force to hang out with them. Surely but slowly the two of you gravitated together, the more Ochako invited you to hang out with them, the more you and Hitoshi were able to form a friendship. Soon enough, the two of you started to hang out on your own, having much more in common than you thought.
The two of you went through hell together, surviving petty fights, miscommunications, and having to deal with each others toxic partners at the time. It scared you shitless when you felt as if you were going to lose him. Though he wasn’t big on feelings, he always put that aside and reassured you.
Your eyes found him sitting on the couch, looking much more comfortable than he did when the two of you first arrived. You felt your heart swell, so happy that you were lucky enough to have someone like that in your life, and most importantly that he was happy and safe.
You turned back to Bakugou, now handing him another dish. There was a different look in his eyes that you couldn’t say you recognized.
“Yeah?” He whispered, making you aware of the comment you made about you and Hitoshi’s relationship.
“Yeah,” you said back, but more nonchalant. “And that’s what’s going to make Kaminari and Hitoshi such an amazing couple.”
You went back to doing the dishes, wanting to keep talking so you can distract yourself from thinking about the way Bakugou looked at you. “I can’t believe they’ve been secretly pining over each other for ten fucking years, I mean come on, that’s just pathetic.”
Bakugou snorted, allowing you to fathom that he was next to you, towel on his shoulder leaning on the counter with his arms crossed which perfectly showed just how ripped he is. You felt a little claustrophobic at this sudden closeness, but the demon on your shoulder convinced you to stay within this close proximity that the blond created.
“Yeah, having to watch all these idiots fall in love with each other. Including your idiots.”
You allowed yourself to laugh at that, but it also made you not able to be that close to Bakugou. So, you shoved a pan into his chest and made him put it away. You sighed a breath of relief, feeling your face flush. His smell still lingered around you, leaving you to remind yourself just how addicting that smell was.
“It was quite painful to see Ochako and Tenya in the same room as each other. I mean it was just so obvious!”
In the middle of your frustration, because your hands were still wet from washing dishes, water splashed everywhere, including the man standing next to you. His face wrinkled immediately, you had to cover your mouth in order to keep in the laughter that would surely shake the house. There was no better description of his face other than a cat getting flicked by water. It was just so funning to see a man who looked like that look so…cute.
“And that’s why you shouldn’t stand so close to me.”
You were able to compose yourself from laughter and embarrassment, using Bakugou’s towel to dry your hands. He huffed at you, and snatched the towel away from you to dramatically wipe his face. Because your friends were still watching the movie you wanted to stay quiet, you had to lean over to cover your face to make your laughter quieter. Without even realizing it, you leaned forward into Bakugou’s chest, your face literally being smothered by him. You wanted to panic, but you were still giggling so you stayed there for a couple more moments. Finally catching a breath, you were able to resort back to your normal posture, now being able to see Bakugou’s face. His cheeks and the tips of his ears were bright red, but he had the smallest smile at your uncontrollable giggling. Jokingly, you shoved him away, busying yourself in an attempt to not fully comprehend what has just happened.
“So how were you when we were in high school? Any annoying relationships?”
His voice wobbled a bit, but he played it cool. Obviously that stunt you pulled also affected him.
“Oh you know, I grew up in the south so there wasn’t many dating options. I actually had to lower my standards in order to ‘get some.’
You rolled your eyes as you thought back to all the people you dated, and for some reason continued to talk out loud.
“I dated like two guys in high school, both traumatized me to the bone. As for girls, I never actually officially ‘dated’ them because, you know, homophobia.”
Your hands moved as you explained the sad stories of your dating life, worried that you were being annoying. However you glanced at Bakugou and realized that he was staring at you with that look in his eyes again, having fully caught his attention with your blabbering.
“Had a couple of situationships with girls, it was so awful. It made me so frustrated that we couldn’t just date, you know? And the college happened and I officially dated a girl, and it was good until she cheated on me, with her ex.”
Bakugou winced at that last part, and you laughed it off, regretting even telling him this. Why were you telling him this?
“But it’s okay! I met another guy and it was a really good time, we had to break up just due to a loss of spark, and after that I just…haven’t dated since. Honestly I don’t know when I want to start dating again, after all the shit I’ve been through I just can’t risk dating right now.” You chuckled, reminiscing all of your past exes.
However, what you didn’t realize was that Bakugou had gone stiff, taken aback by what you had just said. Suddenly, the mood in the room shifted, and Bakugou began to distance himself from you.
“What about you, man? Any crazy exes you wanna vent about?”
You turned to look at him, but his face was far away from you now, and there was a very different look set upon his face. You furrowed your eyebrows at the change in his attitude, and watched him hang up the towel.
“Nah, I’ve always been the crazy one.”
He looked back up at you, and the two of you maintained eye contact. You felt like you just lost the connection that was starting the grow between the two of you. The past hour and a half of bonding and bickering like and old married couple was now long gone, as there was an ocean between you two.
“I think I’m gonna head home, gotta get up early tomorrow.”
Before you could even think of a reply, he left, leaving you standing in the kitchen alone, feeling emotions you haven’t felt in a long time. A shiver went down your spine.
What the fuck happened?

hitoshi hates birthdays [shinsou hitoshi x reader]
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: shinsou hates birthdays, a lot. and he respects his mom, until she exposes to Y/N that it is in fact, his birthday.
WORD COUNT: 1.7k
WARNINGS: crack, kissing, mild pining, tik tok references,
A/N: i peer pressured myself into writing shinsou because it is bb’s bday. so have this poorly written thing haha <3 pls forgive me
Tumblr media
Shinsou didn’t like birthdays. He never had, mostly because he was the kid who would throw a part just for no one to show up. Making friends had never been easy, even when his quirk had yet to manifest, along side the fear from those around him. Which is why, when it turned out his birthday was coming up, he just didn’t tell anyone.
Birthdays sucked.
Of course, Shinsou needed to do something to keep his mom from lecturing him on how he had to start talking to people, fix his social life, especially now that he was going to such a prestigious school. The school was filled with pretentious dirtbags, that still thought bullying would do anything for their extremely fragile egos and self-esteem issues.
Y/N had made that ‘prestigious’ school, a little more bearable, so naturally he made plans with her. The girl who punched someone in the face for him even though they didn’t know each other at all, at the time at least. Now, it seemed Shinsou couldn’t avoid the girl, not that he minded her company. Initially, he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe it was a prank. He couldn’t count the number of times he’d been asked out as a dare when he was in middle school.
Was it wrong that he expected the pattern to continue?
It didn’t continue, of course. Y/N had stuck around, and she had yet to ask him out, much to Shinsou’s dismay. He’d found himself attracted to her ‘sunny’ disposition and constant cursing, he was also concerned for her well-being seeing as she could barely take care of herself. The fact that she was one of the most beautiful people he’d ever seen was a bonus.
Now, Shinsou couldn’t help but smile at the girl as they exited the movie theatre. She was beaming as she spoke about how she felt about the movie, the plot, that one character she really liked. Yeah, this is how he wanted to spend his birthday.
“Honestly, can you believe he did that?” Y/N exclaimed, her gaze falling onto Shinsou as she expressed her shock, hands gesturing vividly around them. He found himself worrying that she would accidentally hit someone in the face int he midst of her rant.
Though he simply hummed in response, thinking for a moment, “yeah. I can.”
She through her hands up, and Shinsou found himself gently bringing a hand to her arm to guide her away from a child she nearly elbowed. “How could he just leave her? The love of his life!” Y/N scoffed, rolling her eyes, “the audacity.”
“Well maybe he thought he wasn’t good enough.” Shinsou suggested, and he couldn’t help but relate to the guy from the odd rom-com they’d just watched.
Allowing Shinsou to move her in the direction of the parking lot, he “Well maybe he should have asked. He was a really nice guy,” Y/N paused, biting her lip as her brows furrowed, “he kinda reminded me of you, actually.”
Shinsou bit back a bitter laugh at this comment, of course he reminded her of the character who didn’t get the girl. That was a great sign, perfect. “So, I’m the loser who fails to get the girl?” He asks, brow raised at her.
Y/N’s cheeks warm as she looks away from him, “no... You’re the nice guy-” She paused, lips pursing together before she sang, “nice guys always finished last should’ve known that.” Shinsou burst into laughter at her outburst, unlocking his car and opening the door for her. “See, you even open doors for the ladies. A true gentleman. Who doesn’t want that?”
You. Shinsou couldn’t help the thought that filled his head as he closed Y/N’s door, shaking his head as he made his way over to the driver’s side. “Anywhere you want me to take you?” He asked, looking to her and noticing she’d yet to put her seatbelt on, distracted by her phone, “and please buckle up. I don’t want to watch you fly head first through the window, as funny as it would be. I can’t afford a new car.”
Y/N laughed at his comment, buckling her seatbelt up nonetheless, “grocery store? I wanna buy some more snacks.”
“Sure, I probably need to buy groceries anyway.” He picked up his phone to text his mom, asking what she needed before throwing it onto the dashboard of the car.
As Shinsou reaches into the back in search of his school bag, his phone vibrates on the dashboard, nearly slipping off of it had it not been for Y/N. The phone is already on because of the new message, and a picture of her and Shinsou is displayed as the background, bringing a smile to her face. It’s from one of their previous hangouts, alongside a few of her friends. Y/N had introduced them, she’d wanted Shinsou to branch out. Sure, he had friends, but he wasn’t necessarily close with any of them.
The message from Shinsou’s mom takes this smile off her face pretty fast.
The normal stuff, and a birthday cake! Along with candles, it’s your birthday and we need to celebrate.
“Hey have you seen my-”
“It’s your birthday?” Her voice comes out quiet, she stares at the message for a moment. Wondering how she didn’t know his birthday, did he tell her at some point? Had she forgotten?
Shinsou freezes for a moment, adjusting himself in the seat to look at her, “yeah.” He brings a hand to the back of his neck, disliking the change in atmosphere as she sighs.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Did you tell me? Did I forget?” She sounds distressed as she speaks, and Y/N is racking her brain for reasons why she was completely unaware of the date. Did Shinsou even see her as a friend? Was she just some random person he put up with?
The answer was no, he didn’t see her as a friend, but he happened to like her quite a bit. And now he’s shaking his head, bringing a hand to her arm as frowns at her words, “I never told you. You didn’t forget. It’s fine, really. My birthday doesn’t matter-”
“Of course it matters, Hitoshi!” Y/N cried out, her brows furrowed she speaks. Y/N can feel her cheeks flush in embarrassment at the slight outburst as she looks to him, inhaling deeply. “Give me the keys and get out of the car.”
Shinsou is still reeling from the fact that she’d said his first name, staring at her in shock temporarily, “I’m sorry what?” She didn’t intend to kick him out of his own car, did she?
“You heard me.” Y/N replied, extending her hand expectantly, “we are switching seats, I’m driving. Birthday boy does not drive.” His cheeks flush red, and his brows furrow as she exits the car when he doesn’t hand over the keys immediately, jogging around the to open his door, “keys.”
Tilting his head at her, a small smile on his face, he replies, “I don’t know if I trust your driving skills.” The keys in hand, he steps out of the car, and Y/N raises a brow, extending her hand out once more. Shinsou brings his hand above his head in response.
“You are a jerk, Shinsou.” She mumbles glaring at him as she folds her arms.
He frowns slightly, “I liked it better when you called me Hitoshi.”
Y/N can feel her cheeks warm at his comment, “I didn’t even know your birthday, I don’t think I deserve to be calling you by your first name.” She mumbled in response.
“Well, you know my birthday now.”
She exhales deeply, “why didn’t you tell me? We were hanging out all day- why did you even wanna hang out with me? I’m sure you have better things to do on your birthday.”
He tilts his head at her, “what’s better than hanging out with you?” Y/N contemplated kicking his shins in that moment as he sighed, bringing his hand back beside him, “I don’t like birthdays.” He looks away from her, “but this was probably the best one by far.”
“Let’s make it even better,” Y/N says, a smile on her face as she looks up at him. “Hitoshi.” She adds on.
A small laugh escapes him as he grabs her hand, placing the keys into it. And for a moment there’s silence, both of them staring at their joined hands before Y/N looks up to see that he’s already staring at her. Much to his disappointment, she releases his hands and pockets the keys. Shinsou takes this as a sign to head over to the passenger side, moving past her only to be yanked backwards by his sleeves.
Y/N’s hands find their way onto his face as she brings her lips to his, it takes him a moment to understand what’s happening, as they stumble backwards. One hand comes to her back, and the other to the window screen beside her as her back hits the backseat door of his car. Y/N finds herself bringing one hand to his hair to tug on it, earning a grunt from Shinsou when they pull apart.
“Good to know I didn’t completely misread that.” She breathes out.
And he’s laughing, throwing his head back at her words, as though it wasn’t completely obvious what his feelings for her were. “God, you are such an idiot.” His cheeks are flushed as he brings his lips back to hers, and this kiss is far more gentle than their first. Y/N’s hands are still threaded through his hair as she sighs into the kiss, her thumb caressing his cheek gently.
“Your idiot?” Y/N mumbles when they pull away.
Shinsou can’t find it in himself to believe this is actually happening as he nods, “yeah. My idiot.”
Pressing a kiss to his cheek, Y/N beams up at him, “happy birthday, Hitoshi.” She says, “now let’s go buy some cake mix. Cool kids bake their own birthday cakes.”
Yeah, this was the best birthday yet. So, maybe birthdays weren’t all that bad.

Could I request a scenario where Shinsou has a chubby s/o and one day she comes home really upset because she always feels left out from her friends because of her figure? Sorry if that was vague.
Hello! Apologies if this took a while ;u;
Also, I’ve put the rest of it under a keep reading tab because it’s very self-deprecating and hurtful especially to those experiencing self-esteem issues which might trigger them.
And again!!! I still dunno the difference between scenario and headcanon so here’s a ficlet instead ;u;
Relationships: Shinsou Hitoshi x Fem!reader
Genre: Angst, fluff
Warnings: Self-loathing and body image talk.
Word Count: 741
Shinsou's hands find yours as soon as you step into your shared flat, his eyes focused on yours when he asks how your day went. You reply with a deadpan "Went well. Just went shopping after lunch," a thin-lipped smile gracing your features.
The television's showing a "boring" rom-com film and there are half to completely devoured chips sprawled on the coffee table, telling you that he's been waiting for you the entire day. You feel awful, as he'd obviously been bored as hell in the confines of your living room but you couldn't find it in you to sit with him through the rest of the night. Flashing him an apologetic smile and a shrug, you make a bee-line to your bedroom and toss the shopping bags to the floor.
You stay there, standing in front of your most loathed full-length mirror, stripping your layers one by one until you're left in your underwear and you swear to god there's more flab here and there compared to the last time. Your hand moves to. pinch at the portion behind your thigh and you cringe because there's so much. And your awful posture, the way you slouch makes you look bigger. And these damn arms are-
"Whatchu doin', beautiful?"
You flinch and turn around, see Shinsou standing under the archway, and leaning on the doorframe. Your breath's caught in a hitch and when you don't reply, he takes it and walks up to you, arms wrapping securely around your form. "Wanna show me what you bought today, love?"
You know what he's doing- distracting you from throwing yourself into an infinite pool of self-loathing. And you let him because you need it.
You put on the baggiest shirt and sweatpants combo you could find while he rummages through the bags. You sit next to him while he's in the middle of pulling out the navy blue two-piece swimsuit your friends made you buy earlier. He holds the top out and fixates his eyes on the pink ribbon lacing the edges of the top and meeting as a cute bow in the middle, right at where your cleavage dips and there's the slightest hint of blush dusted on his cheeks.
"I'm sorry, I know it's ridiculous-"
"I want to see you in it."
You're taken aback by his command and were supposed to refuse, but the sincere fascination and admiration he holds in his eyes for you urge you to oblige. So you do, and after emerging from the bathroom with your hands over your chest and stomach, he brings you to face the mirror. He stands there with your back pressed against his chest, fingers interlocking with yours. He stares at you intently, but his eyes are pure and innocent and not judging your flaws that's bared to him, and you could feel it. Every inch of your body exposed had always been adored by Shinsou, and he'd told you how many times he longed to come home to you and to hold you like this.
"Don't I look ridiculous, 'Toshi?" your voice trails off, threatening to break. He shakes his head, proceeding to trace lightly over your skin. He watches as his fingertips cascade smoothly over your silky skin, his hands finally resting on your waist, squeezing gently. "You don't, okay?"
Even so, your frown wouldn't leave your face and is soon being mirrored onto his own. "But my friends... they're all thin and they don't have these awful flabs just hanging on their limbs... They all look so nice in the clothes they chose and I don't. I just don't, 'Toshi." Your chin quivers as you sob, and he cradles your face in his hands, brushing away the tears that stain your cheeks. His lavender irises focusing on your glossy orbs and he speaks with all the love and adoration within him, "Shut up. You're perfect, alright?"
His lips latch onto the skin on your shoulders, the side of your neck and he whispers softly, "I love you and the lovely things you call awful flabs, and everything you don't like about yourself. You don't know yet... how you look amazing in anything you wear, how comforting it is to hold you after a tiring day at work..."
"It's appalling how you're oblivious to your own beauty, but I'll show you. I'll show you the things I love about you so that you'd love yourself the way I do."

Tumblr media
Summary: Midoriya is finally going to get Shinsou back for all the times he's used his quirk on him and pranked him!
How?
With a prank of his own!
However, that can be a little difficult when you have a clever boyfriend... and you can't keep a straight face.
A/n: This is based off of a prompt I received from a very, very patient anon on tumblr!
They were looking for a Shinsou/Deku or Bakugou/Deku fic with a lee!Midoriya!
I'm so sorry it took so long to create, but I hope that this fic will brighten your day and get a few laughs!  This was my first time writing these two so I hope I did them justice!
You can also find read on AO3 at: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23775139
Enjoy! :D
Word Count: 2128
--------------------------
“Are you enjoying the movie, Hitoshi?” Midoriya asked, glancing up at his boyfriend as they sat on his bed.  It wasn’t the most interesting of date nights, but really they both had agreed long ago that the quietness of just being able to be together was more than enough.
Deku felt his heart flutter a bit as his boyfriend glanced down at him, still unused to being under his intense stare.  “Yes.  Though I didn’t realize you were a fan of rom-coms,” Shinsou teased.
Midoriya instantly felt his cheeks heating up and ducked his head, fiddling with his fingers.  “I-I… it’s… I just…,” the green-haired teen began to ramble, but soon he found Shinsou’s lips against his cheek making his cheeks flush up even more under the gentle attention.
“It’s cute,” Shinsou promised gently, the arm wrapped around Deku hugging him just a little closer.
Okay.  Now he was definitely somewhere between crimson and scarlet on the blush-o-meter.  But as lovely and sweet and wonderful as this evening was turning out there was something that he had been planning for awhile and he really, really didn’t want to get deterred.
The plan?
Operation Prank Shinsou!
Was it the most creative name?  No.
Was it the most elaborate prank?  Also no.
But it was something he had been wanting to try for the longest time!  Shinsou always managed to prank or tease him somehow.  Whether it was by using his quirk on him or simply because he was clever by nature.  But this time… oh this time Deku knew he had him for sure!
“You’re c-cute too,” Midoriya murmured back after he realized he’d not responded in awhile, getting a chuckle from Shinsou as they both settled back down for the movie.
He could feel the way Shinsou was starting to relax once more against him and that was the first step in making sure things went according to plan.
The more relaxed and unassuming he was, the more the prank would work on him!
As the movie went on for a little while longer, Deku kept glancing at his nightstand and the various items on it.  Something he had assumed he’d been incredibly careful about until he felt a little squeeze to his shoulder.  Looking up he noticed Shinsou’s gaze back on him, a confused expression on his face.  “Everything okay?”
“Y-Yeah!  I just… I’m ready for a snack aren’t you?” he asked, shifting a bit so he could reach for a can on his nightstand.
But it was no ordinary can.
Oh the genius of it!
It looked like a harmless, delicious can of peanut brittle, but in reality?  It was filled with spring loaded fake snakes!
Giggling to himself at the sheer brilliance of what was to happen, Deku sat back on the bed, cuddling back up to his boyfriend.  “I thought you’d enjoy something sweet!  I bought some peanut brittle earlier and I figured why not save it for our movie night?” he offered, handing the can to Shinsou with the widest smile on his face.
Glancing from Deku to the can, Shinsou couldn’t help lifting an eyebrow.  “Ah… so… is this what you were looking at so much?” he asked.
Deku nodded emphatically, fighting back another bout of giggles as Shinsou took the can from him.  Midoriya couldn’t help leaning away slightly and bringing a hand up to cover his mouth.  “You… You should have the honors of opening it.  I know you like your sweets,” he said, eyes darting from the can to Shinsou and back again.
Now it was Shinsou’s turn to try and fight a smile, biting his lower lip as he watched the glee overcoming Deku’s features.
“Ah... yes.  I really could go for some… ‘peanut brittle’.  It’s always been a super secret favorite of mine.  Oh how did you know?” he asked, slowly moving his other hand to the lid of the can.
Deku brought his other hand up to try and hide his growing smile, watching as Shinsou began to slowly pry open the lid.  Oh this was going to be so good!  His poor boyfriend didn’t suspect a thing!
But in a flash the can was pointed toward him and before he could say a word, Shinsou opened the lid, sending the snakes flying out toward him.
The shriek that left his mouth was something he would deny for the rest of his life.  He was a hero in training!  Admitting that fake snakes springing from a can that he himself had bought was too shameful to ever speak of again!
He only managed to be drawn from his stupor as the sound of laughter finally reached his ears.
Looking up from under the multitude of fake snakes that now covered him, he could just make out Shinsou curled up on his side, laughing harder than he could ever remember.
“O-Oh my gahad!” he wheezed, glancing over to Midoriya before busting out into even heavier laughter.  “You… yo-you should’ve heheheard yourself!”  Shinsou was absolutely beside himself with laughter.
Midoriya could feel his cheeks heating up as he looked down at the little snakes that still clung to him.
“Y-Yeah well… if you had just opened them like you were supposed to then I wouldn’t have sounded so silly,” Midoriya grumbled, sitting up a bit more and picking a few of the snakes off of himself, dropping them over the side of the bed.
“That’s right.  You had planned on making me sound like the silly one, isn’t that right, Deku?” Shinsou’s voice purred next to him and instantly Midoriya felt his face heat up even more.
Glancing over to his boyfriend he could see his smile growing and his eyes instantly widened, a shaky smile already forming on his own lips.
“U-Um… no?” he squeaked, leaning back further and further the more Shinsou followed him until he felt his back hit the mattress.
“Oh… I think you did, Midoriya.  And… I think you need to pay for acting so villainous,” Shinsou teased.
“N-No!  No it’s not fair!  You u-use your quirk on me all the time to p-pra-hahank stahahahap!” Midoriya giggled, unable to finish his sentence as he already felt a hand spidering up his left side, making him try to turn over and curl up into a protective ball.
Shinsou was having none of it and instantly moved to straddle his waist, quickly gathering up his wrists in one hand and pinning them overhead.
“Is that right?  Then I will show you that I definitely don’t need to use my quirk to make you pay for your treachery!” Shinsou promised as Deku continued to giggle nervously beneath him, squirming this way and that as he tried to wriggle his way free.  He knew that if he put strength into it he could definitely get his hands free, but he also knew that there was no way he was going to inadvertently fling his boyfriend into the wall because he was afraid of his impending doom!
What was worse, was that Shinsou knew this as well.
Oh he was in trouble.
“No!  You d-don’t have to waitwaitwahahait!” he giggled nervously as Shinsou turned his free hand into a claw, letting it drop quickly toward Midoriya’s stomach making him squeak and jump without ever touching him.  He hated this part!  The moments before the attack where Shinsou would get him feeling nervous and a million times more vulnerable by feinting little attack to his stomach, his sides, his ribs until finally...
“I don’t have to wait?  Well… if you insist,” Shinsou said lightly and with that, his fingers made their attack!
“Nononono-ahahahaha!  Shinsahahahagahad!” Deku cried out, his laughter leaving him in one big rush as skilled fingers scribbled over his stomach.  The fingers fluttered their way from one side to the other.  The sensation had his back arching off the bed before attempting to try and suck his stomach in to protect himself.
“None of that, Deku-kun!  Take your punishment for your evil peanut brittle plans!” Shinsou teased, bringing his hand up to rest against Deku’s lower ribs, his thumb starting to massage deeply right underneath the sensitive bones.
Midoriya instantly yelped as the ticklish sensation raced up his body making him rock back and forth to try and get away from that evil hand.
“B-But ihihit dihihidn’t even wohohohohork!  Stahahahahap it!” he cried out in ticklish laughter, the sound intensifying as he felt Shinsou’s hand starting to vibrate up his ribs.
“Because I’m such a clever hero who knows when evil is about to attack,” Shinsou teased, watching as Midoriya’s freckles began to stand out against the blush spreading over his nose and cheeks from laughing.  “Now… apologize like the good little villain you are and I’ll stop.”
“Thahahat’s n-not fahahahair!” Deku giggled hysterically as Shinsou brought his hand up from Midoriya’s ribs, letting them flutter under his chin and along the side of his neck.  This always got the most adorable giggle fits out of the poor guy and Shinsou could never get enough.
“Of course it is!  I almost had snakes on me, Deku.  How could you do that to me?” he sighed dramatically, feeling the way Midoriya tried to scrunch his shoulder to hide his sensitive neck.  “Well… if you’re going to be difficult I guess I have no choice.  You brought this on yourself, Midoriya.”
Before he could say anything, ask what his boyfriend meant by that, he felt his wrists released… and then the real attack began.
His reflexes were a second too slow to bring his arms down before he felt fingers tickling against his armpits, the laughter erupting out of him louder than even he could remember.  “HIHIHIHITOSHIHIHI!  PLEHEHEASE!” he positively howled, his head tossed back in laughter as tears of mirth gathered on his eyelashes.
“What was that?  Was that an apology?  Didn’t sound like an apology to me?” Shinsou teased with that wide grin of his, his fingers still scribbling quickly against his smaller boyfriends underarms as Deku’s legs kicked out behind him.
“I’M SAHAHAHARRY!  I’M SO-SOSAHAHARRY GAHAHAHAD!” he cackled, his arms clasped tight to his sides and having absolutely no effect in stopping his evil boyfriend!  The only saving grace was that this time he hadn’t used his quirk on him.  There was no way he would’ve survived if Shinsou had been able to control his movements!
“God?  Well… you don’t have to flatter me, but I suppose I can let you off with a light warning,” Shinsou teased, his fingers slowing down their attack to just light flutters of his fingertips.  The gentle tickles keeping Midoriya caught up in frantic, bubbly giggles.
“Y-You’re so mehehean,” Midoriya giggled, twitching every once in awhile from the soft tickles until finally the teasy sensations stopped and he felt warm lips press against his own.
Slowly his giggling subsided at the sweet kisses, his eyes opening to find Shinsou watching him with the most gentle expression.  His cheeks were already red from laughter, but that didn’t stop them from trying to blush more at the look he was getting.
“You’re the one who had treachery in your heart,” Shinsou teased softly, giving his fingers one last little wriggle against Midoriya’s upper ribs, making him giggle one last time before stopping and rolling over to lay beside his partner.
“I th-thought… thought it was clever…,” Midoriya panted, soon finding himself cuddled up in Shinsou’s arms and easily complying.  Turning onto his side he curled up against his chest, catching his breath as Shinsou soothed over his back.
“It would’ve been… if you weren’t so terrible at lying and keeping a poker face,” Shinsou chuckled, causing Midoriya to give a little laugh.
“Was it really that bad?”
“You might as well have handed me the can and said ‘There’s snakes in here.  Open it’,” Shinsou said lightly.  “But it was still cute watching you try.  We’ll have to work on that.”
“Well… it was nice getting a chance to see you laugh.  Even at my expense,” Midoriya murmured with a soft smile, eyes closing as he nuzzled closer to Shinsou.  The soft touch to his back and the warmth from his boyfriend easily making him ready to nod off after that little tickle attack.
Shinsou smiled softly as he heard that, pressing a little kiss to his boyfriends fluffy hair.  “Well… you definitely know how to make me smile, Izuku,” he murmured, making Midoriya smile.
Deku gave a contented little hum and felt himself slowly starting to lose his battle against an impending nap.  However, even if he wasn’t the best at pranks and hadn’t succeeded, if this was how all of his pranks ended… he really wouldn’t mind at all.
But he was going to get him next time for sure!

I have a silly prompt idea for Shinsou that I'd like to see. What if Shinsou and his s/o we're cuddling, nothing major happening. And then one of them sneezes, they sneeze so hard they fall out of bed. And the other starts laughing but helps them back up and starts giving them kisses to feel better. I think it's funny and cute I'd like to see if if you're looking to do some Shinsou loving time.
A/N: I was about to say that Shinsou would be the one who laughs in that situation but imagine if he was the one who falls off though?
You two were cuddling on the couch on one of your rare night offs, the tv was playing in the background but neither one of you were actually paying attention to it because it had been too long since you last had any alone time with him like this. You had one leg swung across his waist as you laid your head on his chest, feeling completely at ease with the rise and fall of his breathing. The blanket was already slidding off to the floor but you didn’t bother getting up from your current position to pick it back up.
The laugh track of the cheesy rom com felt almost distant as you focused on the presence of Hitoshi next to you, basking in the warmth he radiated.
It had been too long since you felt so serene and at peace.
Sadly, it was not long lived when you felt the body you were holding onto suddenly sat up and let out a loud sneeze. Startled by the sudden movement, you flinched and tripped him with you leg. Yet to recover from the discomfort in his nose, Hitoshi couldn’t react fast enough, losing balance and tumbled down the couch.
You immediately looked over to the ground to see if he was ok but you couldn’t help but laugh at what the state he was in. When he fell, he brought the rest of the blanket with him and he was tangled in a large fleece blanket whilst groaning on the cold floor. Your boyfriend was usually so composed and so level headed but quite frankly, this was the most distraughted you had ever seen him as a mixture of pain and confusion clouded his features.
He glared at you while rubbing the back of his head. “Are you gonna keep laughing or what?”
Trying to calm your laughter, you pursed you lips together as you leaned over to pull him back up. Seeing the snarl on his face, you gently pat his head while peppering kisses all over his face. “Are you ok?” You said with a giggle.
“You have the decency to laugh when you were the one who tripped me?” He groaned and you quickly placed yet another peck on his lips.
“Sorry.” You smiled apologetically, but he rather doubted the sincerity of that as you broke into another round of chuckling.
Hitoshi sighed and clicked his tongue, “You better make it up to me with cuddles.”
You snorted and wrapped your arms around his waist, “Anything for your forgiveness.”

Tumblr media
katsuki bakugo: cooking and baking with him! it all started on a cozy afternoon in April, you’re mindlessly scrolling through tiktok whilst cuddling with katsuki (your sparky bf practically asleep in your arms) when you stumbled upon some cute and interesting cooking videos appearing on your fyp. katsuki peers through your phone and groggily asks if you want to try out and attempt to make some of them and you immediately say yes!
the two of you start with something simple and basic, dalgona coffee! (even playfully arguing whether or not you should adding more whipped cream to your drinks or not), after that, you then take your culinary journey a bit further by making some baked sushi, cloud bread, and mini donut cereals among many other scrumptious delights! after a while, you decided to buy some matching “kiss the cook” aprons online and even started a tiktok account detailing all of the special twists katsuki made to the recipes (although he absolutely refused to make an account at first, with some probing and dozens of pouty faces and puppy eyes coming from his adorable significant other, he finally gives in) dancing and kisses in the kitchen, spreading flour on each other’s faces, leaving sneaky love notes by the fridge, and making each other coffee in the morning were just some of the little add-ons the two of you would do with each other.
izuku midoriya: online escape rooms and virtual museum tours! the national museum of japan were offering some free virtual tours around the museum and the two of you could not just pass up the opportunity to see all the intricate pieces being displayed in the museum. however, izuku wanted to experience something else that's similar to that and so, after seeing an ad on twitter for an virtual escape room experience, izuku excitedly told you about it. jumping and hopping around like a little bunny and you couldn’t help but agree as seeing him so happy and so excited for something will never fail to make your heart flutter. the two of you immediately book a reservation and even bring out your virtual reality gears for the full immersive experience. you’re clinging to his arm the whole time as you virtually traverse a horror escape game and your freckled boyfriend tries his best to be brave just for you.
with both of your intelligent and inquisitive minds combined together, with the occasional soft couple bickering, and having to listen to izuku murmur to himself for several minutes,  the two of you solved 7 escape rooms (for a week straight) in a span of three hours each. the two of you take turns in doing the tasks of the game, and whoever fails to do so, has to do the other person’s bidding for the entire day. although the two of you could never force the other to do any mean-spirited dares to each other, most of the bidding you told each other to do were peppering each other kisses on the cheek, long and warm hugs, choosing the movie for the night, cuddling in the bed and holding hands among many other things.
todoroki shoto: binging movies and tv shows on netflix with him! this was the perfect opportunity to help your icy-hot boyfriend finally indulge in everything pop culture. and what better way to do so than on netflix and other streaming sites? the two of you end up watching every romantic movie dear to your heart. mixed with bed or couch cuddles, blankets wrapped around the two of you, a lot of cheesy and loving whispers said, and paired with some comfort food you ordered online. your watching area varied. sometimes the two of you would watch in the bedroom, living room, and sometimes you would even make a pillow fort with dangling fairy lights attached to it filling the tent with fluffy stuff toys to lie on just so that the two of you can watch on the floor.
shoto cried when the two of you finished watching the notebook and the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. and all you did the entire night was give him all the hugs and kithes you could provide him. ever since then, the two of you opt for more light-hearted movies. rom-coms, disney movies and sitcoms where he endlessly referenced iconic lines from friends, the office, how i met your mother, and brooklyn 99. the days in quarantine go by with the two of you just mindlessly singing and dancing along to disney songs, rewatching rom-coms for the umpteenth time, reenacting some scenes from iconic movies with dry yet hilarious acting, and just discussing movie theories whenever he cutely and innocently asks you about some small details he missed every time you finish watching a movie for the day
eijiro kirishima: training and exercise routines with him! your shark-toothed boyfriend is a fitness buff through and through. to the point that a room in your house dedicated to just gym and fitness equipment exists. but when quarantine struck the world and your lovely home, you slightly lost your motivation to work out. eijiro continues to encourage you to do so ofc! with the two of you occasionally going outside to jog but aside from that, nothing much else. when he catches you watching a chloe ting video on youtube, he scoops you up from the couch, and you giggle trying to tell him to put you down yet he refuses to do so, as he carries you all the way to your little gym room. you notice that there are yoga mats sprawled about and since then, the two of you would do a lot of yoga as it has been proven to decrease anxiety. sometimes the two of you would get distracted and start dancing to the exercise music, accompanied endless laughter and giggles when kirisihima would do his daily planking exercise with you sitting on top of him as he does so.
there were also times when the two of you were so tired and sore. so you would give each other loving massages, there were also times when the two of you would just sleep it out or just lounge in the bed. excercise couldn’t stop your cravings and so, and there were also times when the two of you would do some food mukbangs you’ve been craving for recently.
shinsou hitoshi: playing video games with him and taking care of your little pet kitten! right before quarantine started, shinsou surprised you with a pet little kitten that the two of you decided to name gigi, named after the cat from kiki’s delivery service. the two of you always running around the house as if you were parents to a newly-born baby, watching your cute little kitten frolicking around, touching and interacting with everything he could find. after watching some “cat parents” videos on youtube and learning some tips, you attempt to give it a bath, resulting into a very wet failure. with the only time you can feel peace and quiet was when gigi was asleep or whenever he would be drinking his vet-approved milk. your quarantine life was hectic and chaotic but taking care of a cute little bundle of joy with your equally loving and handsome boyfriend... well, life couldn’t get any better than this.
when you were finally able to get the hang of the cat parents life, you and shinsou finally found the time to rest and relax by playing video games. may it be a horror, action, adventure, rhythm, or fantasy game, you were always playing with him. maybe as a player 2 or just as the supportive significant other who helped him solve puzzles, make story game choices that could change the game, and even help him with the buttons if he was trying to fight some hard boss. whenever there are jumps cares in the game, he would hold your hand and give you reassuring pats. whenever the two of you would play against each other on the other hand, he has his arms wrapped around you, with you still being extremely focused at the game at hand, he would give you pecks on the cheek to try and make you distracted so that he can win. your little pet kitten, gigi, sleeping on the couch as the two of you play to your heart’s content.

The Simple Things (Tamaki/OC - Oneshot)
Combining her long, pale green hair, Tsukiko couldn't help but hum a little tune. After all, today was the day! The day she had been looking forward to it for so long. There was nothing that could put her down, after all, all her dreams of romance and love were about to come true!
"You seem to be in a good mood."
Spinning around, Tsukiko gave a toothy grin to her friend.
"Bibi, I am! How has your morning been?" Tsukiko chirped.
"It's been going well," Bibimi laughs, taking out her lipstick.
"How have you bee-"
"Ecstatic!" Tsukiko exclaimed, not even letting her finish her sentence.
"You know, today's Valentine's Day," Tsukiko said, leaning on the counter.
"Is that so?" Bibimi asked, amused.
Opening her lipstick, Bibimi stopped halfway through putting it on, unable to help herself from laughing at Tsukiko's eager face. Bouncing on her heels, the green-haired girl was practically screaming "ask me what I'm planning".
Rolling her eyes, she bit the bait.
"Are you planning any-"
"I'm going to do it!" Tsukiko interrupted, unable to contain her excitement.
"I think it's time, it's going to be grand and romantic. I'm going to tell him at lunch after I give him the gift I got. I spent days-no, weeks picking it out; months maybe? Either way, I'm pretty sure he'll love it! Roses will be blooming, the sun shining, birds singing! It's going to be perfect, so romantic and adorable that it'll make you want to vomit," she explained, hooking her arm around the other's neck as she laid out her imaginary scene.
"If all goes according to plan, that is," Bibimi chuckled at the girl.
"What?"
"Love, I do enjoy all your antics, and you're always so precise but... do you have a plan B to this little mission of yours?" Bibimi asked, amused but concerned.
"Of course I do, if he's not at lunch, I'll leave a letter in his shoe locker," Tsukiko proudly declared, puffing out her chest.
Rolling her eyes, Bibimi laughed as she rolled with Tsukiko's antics.
The day seemed to pass by ever so slowly after that. Classes seemed to drag on as Tsukiko found herself staring out the window.
The sky was beautiful that day. A bright, clear blue with speckles of white, fluffy clouds that dotted it.
"Shimizu," Power Loader's voice echoed from under his helmet.
"Where would you put the PTU in this mechanism?" he asked from the front of the class, snapping the girl from her thoughts.
"The PTU?" she repeated, her mind searching for the answer.
"To the side of the transmission of course," she nodded to herself.
"Although you're correct, if you were paying attention, you'd have noticed that we don't need a PTU. Please pay attention, this will be on the test next week," he sighed, turning back to the board as her classmates giggled.
"Uh-Yes sir...!" Tsukiko flushed embarrassed.
By the time the lunch bell rang, Tsukiko was able to let go of a breath she didn't even know she was holding. Quickly packing up her things, Tsukiko was out the door... almost. As she approached the classroom doors, an overwhelming amount of fear suddenly took over her, forcing her steps to falter and her fingers to tremble.
She was nervous.
What if he didn't feel the same way? What if she'd just make a fool of herself and lose someone she considered a good friend? What if-
Slapping her cheeks, Tsukiko took a deep breath before forcing her legs to move forwards. She had made up her mind and she wasn't going to back out now.
Entering the cafeteria, Tsukiko was greeted by her friends. Giving them a large smile, they exchanged small gifts.
"Shimizu Senpai, you changed your hairstyle, is something going on today?" Miyo Mikami, a tall, pink cuttlefish asked.
"There is Mikami," Tsukiko laughs, her cheeks heating up.
Eyes darting around the room, Tsukiko spotted him in a far corner of the cafeteria, sitting next to Mirio. Tamaki sat quietly eating his lunch while the two next to him chatted away, in the same place they always were.
"Have you given anything to Amajiki Senpai yet?" Miyo asked, following Tsukiko's gaze.
"Ah-No, not yet," Tsukiko sheepishly laughed, causing the other to roll her eyes.
"It's as if I'm watching a rom-com or something half the time. If it's not you, it's Hoshiko," Miyo sighs, her gaze drifting to a scruffy, white, holographic haired girl not too far away. She was dragging a tiny, delinquent looking brunette to join her next to Class 1-C's Hitoshi Shinsou.
Laughing slightly at them, Tsukiko smiles, "Speaking of those two..."
Handing Mikami a few candy bags, she blushes while tilting her head towards the Big 3, "I've made up my mind. I'm going to finally do it, today, right now. Mind giving these to them for me?"
Taking them with wide eyes, Miyo gave the green-haired girl a reassuring grin.
Excusing herself, Tsukiko made her way over to the three, politely waving whenever people spotted her but never staying to chat. As she drew closer to the table, she could feel her heart pounding faster.
Sitting down next to Nejire, Tsukiko spotted a group of girls that seemed to hover nearby. They seemed to be trying to cheer up a member of their party. The girl they were talking to seemed nervous. Pushing it to the back of her mind, Tsukiko turned to her friends.
"Hey guys, how have you all been?" Tsukiko smiled.
"I'm great!" Nejire excitedly exclaimed before her eyes darted to Tsukiko's hair.
"You did your hair? It looks good! Hey-hey, what do you guys think? Doesn't Tsukiko look good? Are you going on a date?" Nejire questions, her greeting turning into a small interrogation.
At the mention of a "date," Tsukiko became flustered while Tamaki visibly stiffened.
"H-Hando, i-it's rude to pr-pry...!" Tamaki stuttered, only for Nejire to divert her questions to him.
Laughing softly, Tsukiko explains, rubbing the back of her neck, "No, I don't have a date, just... trying to get a certain hero student to notice me."
At this, Mirio and Negire laugh slightly, while Tamaki shifts uncomfortably next to Mirio, face sullen when Nejire asks, "By the way, Tsukiko, have you gotten any chocolates yet?"
"Yeah, how about you guys?" she asks, holding up a small bag from Mikami.
"Same here," Mirio laughs before hooking his arm around Tamaki's shoulder.
"Tamaki here's been busy all day though," he grins, "Quite the lady's man we got."
"Mirio... T-There just obligatory chocolates..." the shy boy mumbles, shooting a soft glare at his friend.
"Aw come on Amajiki! You-" but Nejire's giggling was interrupted by the group of students Tsukiko had noticed earlier.
Shuffling up to their table, the nervous girl from earlier was pushed by her friends towards them.
Eyes darting everywhere, she clutched something close to her chest as a crimson blush stained her cheeks.
She was short and busty, and hand the wings of a Luna Moth. The fluff on her chest only seemed to accentuate her features more. Her white hair reminded Tsukiko of dandelion puff, soft and free.
"U-Um... Um... Uh... E-Excuse me, A-A-Amaj-jiki Senpai..." she stuttered, voice soft and squeaky, batting her lashes.
"Uh, y-yes...?" he answered, surprised by her wanting to talk to him.
Nejire and Mirio gave each other curious glances, while Tsukiko finally recognized the girl. They met once when she needed a pair of goggles repaired.
Squeezing her eyes shut, the girl held out a pale pink letter with shaky hands.
Her blush only deepened as she sputtered, "P-Please give me your answer after school behind the main gym...!"
Tsukiko could feel her eyes widen as she watched Tamaki hesitantly take the letter, sheepishly agreeing to the request. She swears she saw sparks fly as the petite girl's eyes sparkled under the light.
Bowing her head towards the table, the girl quickly made her way back to her friends, unable to hide her large, giddy grin.
Tsukiko could hear her friends teasing and congratulating her as they left the cafeteria, leaving the room just a little quieter.
Tamaki simply stared at the letter, baffled at what just happened. His mind, still trying to process everything.
"Wasn't that Oomizuao Mushi? From 2-B, right?" Nejire asked, a hand to her lips, breaking the silence that fell over the table.
"Yeah... I heard somewhere she liked an upperclassman, but I wasn't expecting this," Mirio chimed in.
"Hey-hey, Amajiki, what do you think?" Nejire asked, snapping the boy from his thoughts.
"U-Um... well... I-I'm not really sure..." he mumbled.
"You know, you're such a lucky guy Amajiki," Tsukiko cuts in, a wistful look crossing her face.
"Getting a love letter like that? It's so romantic," Tsukiko sighed, snaking a hand into her bag, pushing a decorative box deeper inside.
"What?" the other three asked in unison, not believing their ears.
"Yeah! You're so cool! You don't get a love letter every day you know?" she grinned, the grip of her hand inside her bag tightening.
"What are you saying Tsukiko? I thought you-" but Tsukiko cut Negire off.
"I think Mushi's a sweet girl. Passionate, hardworking, not to mention super cute and girly. The perfect "girl next door" type, you know?" she laughs.
"Dating someone like her would be a dream come true," she says, finding it harder and harder to smile, but refusing to let her facade crack.
Not wanting to be there any longer, Tsukiko jumped at the "buzz" of her phone. Glancing at it, she stands up, holding it tighter than necessary to her chest.
"Sorry, I got to go," she chuckles, glancing at the letter in Tamaki's hands before saying, "You two would make a cute couple."
Quickly making her way out of the cafeteria, Tsukiko missed the worried glances Mirio and Nejire gave each other, as Tamaki silently looked down at the letter.
Only once she was sure she was alone did Tsukiko drop the act. Leaning back against a wall, Tsukiko could feel her eyes starting to sting. She was so frustrated at herself, but she wouldn't cry. Taking a deep breath and slapping her cheeks, Tsukiko recollected herself.
It didn't matter. High school romances never lasted anyway. Even if she was able to end up dating Tamaki, the two would have never made it past high school. Both their careers were demanding, neither of them would have been able to make it last. With Oomizuao by his side, however, the two could become Pro Heroes together.
At least, that's what Tsukiko continued to tell herself back to class.
Tinkering with the mask in her hands, Tsukiko zoned in on her work in an attempt to forget everything at lunch. Who needed romance when you could create hero gear anyway right?
So lost in her work, Tsukiko jumped when Bibimi suddenly tapped her shoulder.
"Did you even hear what I said?" she asked, a little frustrated.
"Uh, no sorry. Could you repeat it?" Tsukiko sheepishly smiled.
Heaving out a heavy sigh, Bibimi repeated, "How did it go? Did he give you an answer?"
"Ah, no, I haven't told him yet," Tsukiko simply responds, tone light and airy.
"What, why not?" Bibimi demands, putting her gadgets down.
"It just... wasn't the right time," Tuskiko shrugs.
"Tsukiko..." Bibimi pouted, "I know you love large romantic gestures, but you shouldn't let that get in your way!"
"I'm not," she laughed.
"Besides, he was busy. I can't help that he's so popular," she says, ignoring the weird look Bibimi was giving her when a loud snap suddenly caught both of the girls' attention.
Looking down, Tsukiko felt her heart drop at the sight in front of her.
"Shinsou's mask! My voice plates!" Tsukiko practically screeched, frantically examining the damage.
"How did that even happen?" Bibimi whispered.
Merely grumbling in response, Tsukiko was teary-eyed and horrified.
Cleaning up her things as the final bell rang, Bibimi turned to face her friend before leaving.
"Are you sure you don't want me to stay, I don't mind," she asks Tsukiko once more.
"Yeah, it's going to take a while and I don't want to hold you back," Tsukiko smiled wearily, glad that she had such good friends.
"Mh... Alright... You know where I'll be if you need me," Bibimi mumbles before walking out of the studio doors.
Turning back to the broken mask that lay on the table, Tsukiko inwardly sighed as she worked far past the last stragglers.
Before she even knew it, warm, orange rays of light had enveloped her lone figure. Stretching out her back, Tsukiko's gaze mindlessly wandered to the large windows above her.
It was beautiful, the warm dusk sky. It reminded her of a painting, the perfect backdrop to a romantic scene.
A frown pulled at the corner of her lips as her eyes moved to the bag next to her. Pulling out the box, she mindlessly rubbed small shapes with her thumb as she leaned her head on her hand.
"What a romantic sky," she mumbled, her voice soft in the large empty room.
"It must have been beautiful," she sighed, conflicting feelings swarming inside her mind.
Oomizuao was a good girl. Being kind, graceful, brave, Tsukiko was sure that Tamaki would be happy with her, and yet, she couldn't help the ugly feeling that clung to her heart. It made her mad, disgusted even that Oomizuao got him before she did.
But these feelings only grew uglier as they continued to stir. She didn't want to feel that way, Tamaki wasn't an object! Yet the thought of him with someone else caused her to feel so many things; she wasn't sure what to do.
Lost in her melancholy, the sound of the studio doors opening caused an anxiety-inducing panic to race though Tsukiko's veins.
Entering the dimly lit room, Power Loader couldn't help but quirk a brow at the girl who was still working.
"Shimizu, what are you still doing here?" he asked, approaching her.
"Oh, Power Loader sir...! I... accidentally broke my mask, so I stayed back to fix it," she laughed, her chipper facade becoming more difficult to keep up.
"Is that so..." he murmured, examining her work.
"I'm closing up the studios now, so you should get going. I'm sure there are other things you can be doing, you can finish up tomorrow," Power Loader simply states, beginning to lock up.
"Wait! I can close everything up after I'm done, can I just stay a little longer?" Tsukiko begged, shocking both herself and the man in front of her.
There was a moment of silence before he turned to her, concern laced in his voice, "Shimizu, is everything alright?"
"Of course!" she lied, only to then realize just how fake it sounded.
"Are you sure? ... You've been spacing out all day," he hesitantly says.
"Mhm!" she nodded, her gaze unable to look at him directly.
A handkerchief was then suddenly held out in front of her face. Taking it with wide eyes, Tsukiko looked up only to find Power Loader taking a seat next to her.
"You're crying," he simply says.
Bringing a hand up to her cheeks, Tsukiko didn't even realize the tears that were beginning to slip down her face.
"I'm sorry, I don't know why I started crying," Tsukiko laughed, wiping her tears away.
"Don't apologize, it's alright."
Despite this, Tsukiko wasn't convinced.
"If you don't mind this old man praying, what's been on your mind?" he asked, voice soft and comforting.
"It's... childish..." Tsukiko softly mumbles.
"Even so, last I checked, you are a child," he smiles, chuckling at her offended face.
"Sir, you know I'm 18 right?" she pouted, only making him laugh.
"18, 30, what difference does it make to me? You all are still children in my eyes," he smiles.
"You make it sound like you're so old," Tsukiko chuckled. It felt good like it was the first time she had smiled in a long time.
"That might be so, but I think my old age might be able to help you with whatever seems to have racked your mind,"
Chewing at the corner of her lips, Tsukiko debated with herself before pushing the words out, "It's... about someone I like. I like them a lot but..."
"I see, so this is what it's about," Power Loader hums, a hand to his chin.
"See, it's dumb-"
"No, it's not," he cuts her off.
"Whether others understand them or not, feelings of love or admiration are important. They're what shape who we become," he explains, a stern air surrounding him.
Nodding at her to continue, Tsukiko swallows the lump in her throat.
"I guess... I-I'm just upset that... that someone got to him before I did-god that sounds so selfish..." she trails off.
"I just... I dunno..." sighing, Tsukiko unconsciously wraps an arm around herself.
"I feel bad. I'm angry at Mushi for confessing to Amajiki first, but when I saw her give him that letter at lunch today I-...! I knew I didn't stand a chance..." she says in defeat.
"So I pushed him towards her and left without saying anything. I didn't even give him the gift I got..."
There was a moment of silence before Power Loader piped up.
"Do you hate her?"
"What?!"
"Do you hate her for confessing first?" he repeated.
"No-never!" Tsukiko blurted.
"Mushi's never been anything but kind to everyone she meets, I could never hate her for something like this...! I feel horrible for feeling like this, and being mad at her when she did nothing wrong!" she confessed.
"I mean, she's strong, cute, and brave. She made it into the Hero Course unlike me... and here I am, feeling sorry for myself while she's doing something..." she trailed off.
Tsukiko was quiet again. Lost in the maze that was her mind.
"You know... I first saw him at the Sports festival during my first year here. He was such a nervous wreck that I thought he might have passed out," she laughed, the melancholy dripping from her words, "But he didn't..."
"He didn't win first place-he didn't even get top five but... that's not what drew me to him. When I saw him, I couldn't help but admire how despite his obvious fears, he didn't turn back. Instead, he faced his fears and fought threw it. It was inspiring," Tsukiko smiled softly at the memory.
"I was so nervous and excited when Negire introduced us last year. It was like when I'm on stage, but I'm not just performing a show, I'm the lead and my mother was able to make it. She was in the crowd and I wanted so badly to impress her."
"But... despite all of this time, I haven't done anything. I keep dropping hints and-maybe I'm the one who wasn't picking them up...?" she asked herself.
Power Loader was quiet, taking in everything she had said. His silence made Tsukiko feel unnerved. As if she had just asked an obvious question and was now waiting for the sarcastic response.
"There's something I want to share with you Shimizu," Power Loader finally says.
"Not many people know this about me, but I'm what some would call a romantic," he declares, earning a confused look before continuing.
"There was this man I met back in my late 20s. He was bold and beautiful, strong-willed but a little hot-headed at times. Very adamant about showing up on time. The exact opposite of who I was."
Rubbing his thumb, Power Loader softly says, "He was my best friend, and I was madly in love with him. Thinking back, I'd even say that I idolized him."
"I thought my feelings were pretty obvious. I went out of my way for him, even leaving my comfort zone just to try and impress him. No matter what I did, however, he just seemed out of reach."
"Shimizu, do you know why I'm telling you this story?" Power Loader suddenly asked.
"... Because... some things just aren't meant to be?" she mumbles, holding herself closer.
Looking up at the sound of his laughter, Tsukiko couldn't help but feel her eyes narrow at him.
"No, it's because he was a stupidly dense idiot," he confessed, catching Tsukiko off guard.
"Even after I told him that he was the most important person in the world to me, he still didn't understand what I meant. It wasn't until I straight up told him that I was in love with him that everything clicked in his head," he laughed at the memory, a tired smile pulling at the corners of his lips.
"Sometimes, playing this whole chasing game can work just fine; flirting with each other, romantic outings, and poetic words do it for some people. But... he taught me something that day; sometimes, the simplest approach is the most effective. Sometimes, just holding someone's hand means more than any grand gesture."
With wide eyes, Tsukiko stared at Power Loader in astonishment as the gears in her head turned. His words sinking into every crevice of her mind.
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted when the sound of the studio doors opened, however. A very nervous Tamaki walked in with a purple bag close to his chest. The streams of light that slipped in past him, created a halo that surrounded his form.
"U-Um... I-I wasn't sure i-if anyone would be h-here, b-but I saw the lights and..." he trailed off, eyes daring to Tsukiko before moving back to the ground.
"Well, we're technically closed for the night, but Tsukiko's closing up for me, so she can help you with whatever you need," Power Loader says standing up.
"W-Wait, what!?" Tsukiko stammers, head snapping back to the older man.
Chuckling, he gives her a knowing smile, "My husband and I have plans tonight. It's nothing special, just dinner, but he'd be upset if I'm late."
Tossing her the keys, he shouts on his way out, "After you lock up, just give them to Snipe. I'll pick them up later."
Giving Tamaki a curt nod at the doors, Power Loader was gone, leaving the two teens alone in the quiet studio.
Shifting in her seat, Tsukiko gives Tamaki a small smile before beckoning him over. Taking a deep breath, she steals her nerves as he approaches, knowing what Power Loader was trying to do.
"So," she starts, "what do you need me to fix?"
"Uh, well. My bag for my hero costume... broke..." he mumbles, handing her it to her.
"Ah, okay, this is an easy fix. If you want, I can deliver it to you after I'm done. I'm sure you're busy," Tsukiko says while turning around, more of a statement than anything else.
"A-Actually-!" Tamaki blurted, surprising himself more than Tsukiko.
"U-Um...!" he stuttered under her gaze.
"I-If it won't take long... C-Could I wait here-I-I-I mean if you're okay with that, i-it might be we-weird with me watching over your shoulder a-a-a-and I wouldn't-"
"I don't mind," Tsukiko smiles, interrupting Tamaki's ramble.
"O-Okay, thanks..." he murmurs in embarrassment, plopping down next to her.
Despite the events earlier that day, Tsukiko couldn't help the fluttering in her stomach as she worked, trying hard not to blush at the boy's close proximity. From the corner of her eye, she could see his stare engrossed with her fingers, watching them mend the purple fabric. The soft light from above shone above them, leaving soft shadows in its wake.
"So... How was your day?" Tsukiko asked, trying to distract herself from her pounding heart.
"I-It was... alright," he mumbled, eyes darting away.
Silence fell over them again, leaving an awkward tension in the air.
"So... how did it go?" Tsukiko asked, unable to help but wonder.
"H-How did what go?" Tamaki blinked confused.
"You know, the confession... with Mushi..." she trailed off.
"Oh... th-that..." Tamaki paused, rubbing the back of his neck, "She... took it well..."
Quirking a brow, Tamaki only grew more nervous under Tsukiko's stare, ushering him to elaborate.
"I-I-I-It's ju-just, you know...! I-I do-do-don't really kn-know her a-a-and-"
"You turned her down?" she interrupted with wide eyes.
Sinking his head low, Tamaki sheepishly nodded, hiding behind his bangs.
"I-I know you s-said that we'd be good together but..." he paused for a second, taking a deep breath before looking her in the eyes, "There's someone else who already has my heart."
Stunned by his words, Tsukiko was left speechless. Whoever this person might be, Tsukiko couldn't help but want to be them. Behind the fear, Tamaki's eyes were honest and sincere, determined even; just like when he's SunEater saving lives, or when she first saw him. The admiration behind them was evident, passionate even.
Turning away and coughing lightly, Tsukiko can't help the heat from creeping up her face. She wasn't used to Tamaki staring at her like that. It was strange, for a moment, Tsukiko thought it looked as if he meant her. Surely if that were true, he would have confessed right?
Power Loader's conversation with her suddenly came flooding back to her mind at the thought. Shooting Tamaki a glance, he had turned his attention back to watching her work. Unsure if it was from her stress or maybe the lights were playing tricks on her eyes, but Tsukiko could have sworn that his cheeks were flushed a pale shade of pink.
Looking up, Tamaki gave her a shy smile, only causing her to blush more. Turning her eyes to her work, Tuskiko's heart pounded loudly in her ears at the sound of his soft laugh.
Tying up the last stitch, Tsukiko smoothed out the fabric before roughly tugging it, ensuring it was secure. Holding it up, she couldn't help the pride that always overfilled her whenever she finished something. Handing the bag back to the man next to her, Tsukiko couldn't help the bright smile that bloomed on her lips.
"It should hold up now. If you need something patched up again, don't be afraid to ask me."
Nodding, Tamaki smiled at her, thanking her for the help.
At the sight of his smile, Tsukiko was left enamored by it again. Scratching the back of her head, she laughed off the flutters in her stomach, doing her best to ignore Power Loader's voice echoing in her head.
Standing up, Tamaki seemed to linger for a second before bidding Tsukiko a good night. At the sight of his back getting farther and farther away, an overwhelming feeling suddenly washed over the girl.
Jumping to her feet, Tsukiko reached for Tamaki's wrist while shouting," Wait!"
Wide eyes stared back at each other in surprise. It felt like time had stopped before Tsukiko let go of him, rubbing the side of her arm.
"S-Sorry... I-I just..." she stammered, mind racing to think up some excuse.
Shoulders relaxing, Tamaki shook his head, "I-It's alright. Y-You just startled me a little."
Glancing up at him under batted lashes, Tsukiko could feel herself stop breathing. He was looking at her with that stare again. Her knees suddenly felt weak and she felt almost queasy. It was like staring at the sun, her face was so warm. Turning around to hide her red face, Tsukiko grabbed her bag and pulled out her gift.
Clearing her parched throat Tsukiko said, "I-uh... I wasn't able to give this to you at lunch..."
Turning to face him, a big, embarrassed smile pulled at her lips as she laughed, "Sorry about that Amajiki. I hope you enjoy it, it's a book on different butterfly species. Happy Valentine's Day!"
It was now Tamaki's turn to blush as he took the box with gentle hands. Holding it close, a sudden rush of confidence washed over him. Taking a step forward, a hand reached out to grab Tsukiko's hand.
Blushing furiously, he softly brought her knuckles up to his lips.
"Thank you..." he breathlessly whispered against her skin.
"O-Oh! Um... I-It was nothing...!" she stammered, her heart skipping a beat.
"Um... A-Amajiki... There's something I need to tell you..." Shimizu flushed.
"Me too," he confessed, taking a step closer.
Tamaki had no idea where this confidence came from, but he wasn't going to wast it.
"Shimizu, w-will you be my Valen-"
BAM!
Slamming the Studio doors open, a curvy, pale blue jellyfish girl announced, "Fuwa~ I made it~"
Taking a second to absorb what she was looking at, she found Tsukiko and Tamaki awkwardly fidgeting a few feet away from each other.
"Fuwaaa? Why are you two so red?" she asked, innocently tilting her head to the side as Mirio and Negire came running after her.
"Ugh! She made it before we could stop her!" Negire groaned, collapsing by the door next to Mirio.
Clearing her throat, Tsukiko fails to push the red in her face down as she tries not to glare at the three in front of her.
"Natsuki, I'm happy you decided to visit me, but what are you doing here?" she asked, unconsciously baring her sharp teeth.
Snapping out of her daze, Natsuki happily drifted over to the upset girl, engulfing her in a hug.
"Fuwa~ Your big sis came to visit! I got you a present too," she chimes, pulling out a freshly caught fish.
"Fuwa~ I caught it today in the cove!" she chipped, proud of herself.
Taking a deep breath, Tsukiko couldn't stay mad at the airheaded girl as she sighed. Thanking her for the gift, she listened to Natsuki ramble about her adventure catching the fish when out of the corner of her eye, she watched Mirio and Negire approach Tamaki.
"Fuwa~ Tsuki-Tsuki! Do you wanna know what happened next?" Natsuki eagerly asked, holding the fish close and snapping Tsukiko's attention back to the story.
"Mhm, what happened?" she asked, eyes slowly drifting back to the trio as her sister continued to ramble.
"Did you at least tell her?" Mirio softly asked a flustered Tamaki, only for the boy to grimly shake his head.
As the two other heroes tried their best to reassure him, his eyes locked with Tsukiko's, causing an awkward smile to tug at the corner of his lips.
After closing up the studio, the group made their way to Snipes office to return the keys. Hanging back behind the rest of the group, Tsukiko and Tamaki watched as Natsuki told grand tales of her adventures in the ocean. Getting distracted every so often by random things and floating off, causing Mirio and Negire to chase her down and drag her back.
Softly laughing as Natsuki chased circles around the other two, somehow getting herself stuck in a tree, Tamaki jumped at the sudden hand that grabbed his. Turning to his left, Tsukiko gave him a large, toothy grin, her cheeks flushed. Softly smiling back, his fingers intertwined with hers.
"Hey, Amajiki?"
"Yes, Shimizu?"
"I like you, like, a lot."
"I-I... like you too."
