Malvertising virus on Roleplayer.me 11/20/24

I’ve noticed a significant security risk with the site running ads, particularly pop-up videos. Even with blockers enabled, these videos can still be accidentally tapped, posing a threat to your device’s security.

A few months back, the site tested similar coding and blamed the end-users for any issues. Let me be clear: the fault lies with the site itself. Please exercise caution when dealing with these pop-up videos, often appearing in the corners of your screen.It looks like this feature was rolled out over the weekend.

Despite having blockers and other security measures in place, one small mistake—like tapping a pop-up—could lead to a hack or virus.

If possible, update your blockers to target these pop-ups specifically. Some blockers offer this functionality, but even the best ones struggle to prevent video pop-ups entirely.

As an example, I accidentally tapped one of these pop-ups on my device. Shortly after, I encountered a delay in loading the next screen and captured the following screenshot.

Minutes apart, I am working... but it's clear enough to get the point across.

Here are some places people can look around in. (the RP.me sites are very mediocre tbh, but you may still find people on them. RP repository is less crappy, but has a limit of how many characters one can have.)

Even Chatzy is an option. Free rooms have limits on how far back the log can be read, but if you're not interested in saving your RPs or are actively logging them as you go, it's fine.

I made my first RP forum when I was 13, 17 years ago. You can do it, too. ;)

Yeah, AI is fine for the most self-indulgent stuff that it may be very difficult to find RP partners for, but other than that... There's a whole world out there.

i dont like the idea that kids these days are doing their fandom rps with ai chatbots. that's how you're supposed to make lifelong friends as a weird really online teen.

Hello Peachy! I've been a lurker/submitter of your blog since it's creation! I'm now the Librarian of The RP Archive! It's a blog I have made in hopes of creating a collaborative effort between roleplayers of roleplayer.me where we can collect safe and useable sites for resources, coding, layouts, editing, adblockers and other online security, and above all, writing, and post helpful tips, tricks and links to share. Good evening/morning my lovelies! 

I am formerly announcing that I will be coming to tumblr to roleplay as the site of Roleplayer.me is losing its luster with me and I am looking to write with creative people in the verses that I love.  

I will be making a Tara Knowles-Teller page as this one will still be for resources and such once I get back into my photoshop.   

I have to admit, I am not sure how to get into tumblr roleplay but I am willing to learn and to do the research.  I love to write and to create with others and I look forward to finding like minded writers.

However, we also offer a story club for fandom fans, similar to a book club, only not devoted entirely to just book format for stories and a monthly writer newsletter to help writers, whether roleplayers on Roleplayer.Me, Tumblr, Jcink, or fanfiction writers on any platform, achieve their writing and roleplay goals. Hello, I sent you the anon about the difference between roleplayer.me and tumblr rp. Also what verses are most active on that site?

Hello! I’ll be writing this in my point of view, but any of my followers on here can answer to help out. I do hope this helps, I try to keep it short and simple, and not give over hundred of things but some of the main stuff. This will be put in “read” more”.

So, there isn’t much of a big difference between the two and the writers. We’re all here to write and to get out of the real world. Both sites holds the friendly, the drama people, the friend collectors, ect- just like any other site that has rp on it. 

Difference:

Writers on rper.me either stays in their verse or will do crossovers that holds a common thing to their main verse. 

 If you want to go into more than one verse- I highly suggest putting in the theme that is common with these verses like “Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Once upon a time”, I would just put instead “Fantasy themes and Supernatural themes” since they have those two themes in common. I had notice people won’t accept anyone with more than three verses.

 A big percent of the writers length would be Multi/Novella. When they are that, they won’t go down to single-liners and para. Some believe Multi para starts at three paragraphs and some believe it starts at five, but I never had any problems when the other writer is sending me only three paragraphs nor have some other writers that I’m good friends with. It just all depends on the writer and what they expect. 

There isn’t any need to use icons when replying. You can use icons or gifs in your writing, but it’s not much expected on there.

Your drabbles will be posted in the bulletins and that’s where you can fancy it all up with icons, edits, and/or gifs. You can also post them in your blog on there, or if you want to make a muse blog (like this) you can post it on here. 

HTML is different on there. Some HTML coding is similar, but much of it is different. Some resource pages has put up html coding help for the writers. 

Editors can display their edits photos up/set their edit photos as their default. If you make a connection photo, you can put that up and your connection will to. Just make sure to credit the editor of the photo. 

You don’t need to have a layout up and your biography/facts as fast than on here. It took me about a year to even find a layout, and about a year and half to even put up a bio up. You just need to give the highlights of your character to the other writer before you both discuss. Some writers don’t like it, but some doesn’t care. 

  No trigger warnings. Rper.me storylines are in comments- so they are private unless you don’t have a layout up, or put in a html hide comments code. Everything is discussed before being written up, so there is never a need for trigger warnings. Drabbles- I can only speak on my half based on my friend list, they don’t care if there is a trigger warning if I write something dark/violent/bloody.

There isn’t no right or wrong answer because there’s many verses on there, but I can give you what I only know, and seen when new members are being shown.

I would go into the search box, click search, and it will bring you to another page with the left side being all the ways to search something, put in what verse you want and it will show you how many people are there.- to make it more easy.

Quick Information

I've been editing for about 12 years, and coding for just as long--give or take. I started out in forums before finding my way onto MySpace, then Sitemodel, and I now reside in our lovely home of Roleplayer.me. My strengths include Layouts, Manips, and PSDs. Past sites I've worked with include Far-Fetched Premades (now High Times), Wanderlust, Sinful Misfortune, and CMPmades. Sites I've owned are fewer, as my longest reigning resource site is Wreck it Resources (on and off). I’ve also owned Verbatim Resources, which only lasted a month or less due to my RL pulling me away from here. I hope to one day return WIR to its former glory!
