“So, I was going through the annual sales report,” Sam bustles into Andrea’s office, crossing the room until she’s standing in front of her. “And—”

But she stops, staring down at the plant on the edge of Andrea’s desk. She drops the file casually, index finger poised on the flat surface near the plant like a question.

Didn’t this succulent only have two leaves with pink on them? Not three?

“Is this the same succulent I gave you?” she asks with what she hopes is more curiosity than accusation.

“Mhm!” Andrea answers in a telltale octave that’s all too chirpy.

“I thought it had three pink leaves.”

Andrea’s eyes dart quickly the plant.

“Nope, just the two,” she smiles.

Hm.

The inevitable stare down that follows would wither the spirit of any and all of their board room members, save Lena Luthor.

“I mean, I am only CFO, but I can count.” Sam finally states.

“Fine!” Andrea throws up her hands, leaning back in her plush, executive chair. “It died! I sent my assistant to seven different places trying to replace it. She said this one was the same!”

“How did you let it die?! It’s a succulent!”

“I don’t know!”

Sam picks up the tiny plant, cradling it in the palm of her hand.

“You let our love fern die, babe.”

Andrea throws her hands over her face.

“I promise, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

“You better.”
