July is in a few days, and I think I wanna try Camp Nanowrimo. I'm gonna write that rofan light novel idea that I have, and finish other fic wips as well. I need all the writing motivation I can get next month lol, before things become busy once again in August.

I've been dabbling on some rough designs on my rofan novel characters, and I think I like this version for one of them:

This is also one of the reasons I want to buy a tablet, so that I can sketch and practice with colors 🥹

I settled with this particular rofan idea, the earliest one that I have. It's not actually isekai, but more like time travel & transdimensional reincarnation lol

I hope I can start on it and see it through! I'd definitely insert illustrations/manga panels every chapter or so.

🐌: rofan tangchung with the cold duke of the north chung myung and the southern duke tangbo (i think the tang family here would be like the lombardis from i shall master this family)

they meet at the academy for the noble children and tangbo at first doesn't like cm because tb is a spoiled/sheltered young master etc etc. and challenges cm to a sword fight and loses which sparks his interest in cm but cm kinda brushes tb off at first, thinking he's this annoying fly or whatever.

the northern dukedom is interesting in this au because unlike the other noble families where bloodline is of utmost importance, they (hwasan) act more like a clan and accept their heirs/head of the families through survival of the fittest or if that's too brutal we can say it's a selection of the best leadership traits?? anyways the noble families that live there do this because it's hard to survive in the north with the cliche constant monster invasion and other demonic shit going on up there etc etc.

i guess cm eventually accepts tb as a friend reluctantly because cm is a loner outside of the dukedom and also he's used to tb's presence so it feels weirder without him now. and because of that whenever the both of them are in the capital they hang out with each other, glued to the hip and everything to the point where high society's hottest gossip these days is the nature of the northern and southern dukedom's heirs relationship. nosy nobles and the paparazzi can't help but follow the two around to try and sniff out some information.

tb is the type that would buy out a whole row of shophouses or the entire business street just so he could have some peace and quiet for his and cm's alone time. money isn't an issue either because the southern dukedom is so loaded, three generations can stop working and gamble as much money away as they want and the family still won't feel the loss.

i guess the idea came about because i've been wondering if the artist for the manhwa i became the male lead's adopted daughter and marmal are the same person,,,i thought too hard and kinda ended up projecting the two dads in that series as tangchung,,, i can truly never escape tangchung hunngh

ooooh ive never read this manhwa this sounds so interesting.. kind of a fan of (western inspired) period pieces, not related at all but i used to be so obsessed w the 2005 pride & prejudice movie that i made it an au for every show i was into at the time…

Update on plans for this blog and me in general

Oh guys I have stamped w flowers ch 7 all planned out so I'm gonna write it soon 🙏 finally LOLOLOL I'm also simultaneously writing a nazuqi series on @nazuqi of similar nature (typical rofan) so everything will take longer whoops

Also trying to run @lovebrush-chronicles-updates (catching up w posts) and also releasing some guides before the game's en release (oct 20)!! Super excited for lbc to come out btw

As for domiciles love project I'm putting it on hold until I finish stamped with flowers, one at a time for me since my calculus ab class is whopping my ass rn (and somehow I have an 89.5 in compsci a I am so mad he keeps giving us pop quizzes the work is mad easy then the pop quizzes get my ass)

Oh and if my math teacher gives us a test every week I'm not surviving teehee

Thoughts on KKP rankings

There's no statistics posted for this anywhere, but here's some thoughts:

Publishing a series on kakaopage is VERY competitive. Studios will compete with each other to get their series promoted, since more promotion = views, and money. Each month there's 10+ series being published, with at least 5 in the rofan genre.

So rankings and other metrics are key. Stories like Matriarch and Solo Leveling are immensely popular, with 1+ Billion views. So they're promoted the most, and on every webpage.

Here's a rough guideline for a series, OVERALL, at any point:

Any series with greater than 50 million views = MASSIVELY POPULAR = A ton of promotion

30 million views = POPULAR = more promotion

20 million = Very good

< 10 million = Very bad

<5 million = Very very bad, might as well be cancelled. D:

Now, let's divide these guidelines to be split up by Season:

Season 1 (Roughly Ep 1-40): If it finishes with <5 million views, very bad, at risk for cancellation. If it finishes with >10 million views, it's projected to be a hit, will be promoted more

Season 2 (Roughly Ch 41-80): If it finishes with < 10 million views, very bad, at risk for cancellation. if it finishes with > 20 million views, it's projected to be a hit, will be promoted more

Season 3 (Roughly Ch 81-120): if it's reached a season 3, unlikely to be cancelled.

Season 4 (Roughly Ch 121-160+): Unlikely to be cancelled at this point.

I believe objectively, YM is a solid moderately popular series. At ~100 chapters, finishing up Season 3 soon, it has 20+ million views/downloads. That's pretty good. Could be better though ^^

In terms of rankings i've been stalking the rankings for a few weeks and I've noticed:

A new chapter is published at 10pm Friday nights.

In the Overall category (ALL KKP series), it spends the first day on the rankings at about top 60. By the second day, it's still about top 120, By the third day, it's top 200. t's usually gone from the top 300 overall rankings by Monday. These rankings are updated hourly.

In the Rofan category, it opens to be about top 20, then about top 50 a day later, then top 100ish, and is usually off the top 300 by Wed.

The reassuring thing is, is at least YM ranks for a good 4-5 days after a new chapter is published; the popular series are forever on there, while the newer, unpopular ones drop off really quickly.

Come on DAON, YM is good... keep it going...

Another reassuring thing is every few months KKP does a small promotion for YM; whether it's the 3-damu event (every 3 hrs a free chapter, this ran for a few months), or it's promoted on the main KKP twitter. I have yet to see. Interestingly, the decision to promote a series is often in the hands of the studios + KKP; the author/manhwa artists aren't aware of it. It's always super nice to be promoted though. (From the artist of the Saint adopted by the duke's twitter)

Lastly, it's super reassuring that out of all the series that DAON Entertainment publishes, YM is popular enough to receive a print copy, and 6 volumes have been published. It would be great to have more bonuses and merchandise, but I'll take what we can get.

U1146 : Duke of the north and a terror in the battlefield who actually fight for the right of the commoners and iis unsurprisingly seen badly by the emperor for this reason.

The rest of the white blood cell squad : brothers of U1146 that assist him in his workload (he have so much to do) and probably his actual real bodyguards

A3803 : Maid of the mansion incredibly energic despite her appearance.

Senpai : .... senpai of AE3803

Kohai : ... you understand where I am getting at that point

Macrophage : head master of the maid and sister of NK

NK cell : Second in command of the guard of the mansion. Macrophage used to dress her up when she was little

Killer T : First in command and bodyguard of U1146

Helper T : Butler of the mansion

Regulatory T cell : just under Helper T commandment

B cell : Sniper often charged to kill assassins trying to get U1146 killed

Eosinophil : New recrut in the offensive department

Monocyte : Father of Eosinophil and also superior. Is actually wise but hard to understand

Dendritic cell : Head of the spies of the mansion and sometime does the work himself. He's hard to catch on and often scare people by surprising them

Thalar! he's Larath's firstborn, and somehow manages to live up to the expectations of being the king's first child, he's really good at magic. and also really responsible. he doesn't have metamagic though, so in none of the alternate stories does he become the king-heir.

S:

Sathana! She's Kalro's mom, and has her own very successful (insurance?) business. She's got the communication talent, and grew up on a ranch that her brother now runs.

R:

Rakad!! He's the main character. (used to be dead in the entire novel, but had way too much main character energy, so now the book takes place earlier). he couldn't read at age twelve, which led to him getting glowing hair & being lucky. he then found out he had metamagic, and plot happens. he's loyal and kind, but also scatterbrained and will start something with you, and then abandon it to do a different project. good at portal magic

Rabal! He's part of the friend group with Rakad. I don't really know too much about him, but he's serious (especially after things happen) he's got no family that he knows of, and is good at magic, fighting, and academics

Rofan he's Karl's dad, he's a senator, and was previously an ambassador to Rakan. he expects his children to be as ambitious as him, and feels Kalro isn't living up to his potential.

Reoge! one year younger brother of Kalro, wants to be an ambassador, and has already started learning Rakanian.

Ralatchi! Sathana's aforementioned brother who owns a ranch, and it's successful, so he's rich. he has kinda crass taste, though, so doesn't really fit in with rich society the most.

It is with sadness that I must decide to put my rofan project to a halt.

—at least for the Camp Nanowrimo thing. I'll still continue writing it every now and then. But I made the decision because I want to prioritize my lifelong baby project called Renascence.

It's originally supposed to be in manga format, but with my carpal tunnel syndrome and lack of extra time, it will be impossible 😞 So I'm planning to make it somewhat hybrid in form: light novel with illustrations and manga panels. I've wanted to create this story since I was in high school, and it has gone through different iterations, but I want to make it final this year. I'm going to use Nanowrimo to force myself to write a draft of it, because at the very least I want to see a concrete, substantial version of my baby.

I'm not happy that it's not going to be completely in the form it's designed to be (i.e., comics) but as long as I make it, it's enough. I'm not getting any younger, after all.

I'll post some character sketches and worldbuilding ideas every now and then, and once I've written it, I'll post the story on a separate sideblog. For now any post about Renascence is henceforth tagged as 'team vardis'.

I hope you'll give my story a chance when it's posted 😊

Ofc!! I would love to share this silly lil au!!

As is the nature of such things, it actually started out as background plot contrivance to explain why Papa would be out of town in a human fantasy type au causing Brainy (his former student, and curse breaker+healer by trade) to be the Royal Mage in his stead while Papa investigates the Cursed Dolls attacking a tiny village.

The general bg setting for this au is that everyone is humans, it’s Vague RoFan magic kingdom setting where Willow is the queen (and a talented magic user in her own right), and for (handwave) reasons Smurfs and humans thousands of years ago crossed species and now all da Smurfs and everyone else reincarnated into humans. Because of the fae ancestry of the kingdom, pretty much everyone goes by a public name (a plant/nature or a witch-given name like classic village smurf names) as well as a more personal name (like gargamel!!!) only told to family and lovers, and middle name told to no one bc True Names Dangerous for magic. Living dolls only have that public name bc they don’t have souls to ensnare with the true name magic.

Anyway, onto the actual Juice of what’s happening with Sassette and Scruple

Gargamel (known publicly as Carver bc of his carving and sculpting skills with tiny clay things and cages I’m Running With It for this au) is a sickly doll maker living in a rundown shack on the outskirts of a tiny village near the wild edge of the kingdom. He lives alone with his old familiar Azreal, and his orphaned nephew/apprentice, Scruple (stringer for this aus sake, but him n gargamel know each others private names and so will sassette/papa/rest of dolls).

He hasn’t been in the best of health for years, grudges against the world boiling within him, against the lover that left when he began experimenting with bringing life to his dolls (Papa) and took his desired place as royal mage, the three dolls that refused to do his bidding and take over the kingdom, the family that had more loved for each other than ever for him, the kingdom that never had a place for him.

The only things in his life still with him as his health went downhill were the young nephew he was never able to truly have a good life with, his beloathed and beloved familiar despite all the shedding on his black robes, and of course- his work. Towards the end he tried to make one last doll, one to take care of young scruple when he passed, a caretaker made to be a few years older and wiser that could be a true companion for him.

Unfortunately, dying grudges don’t need to be consciously set to sink into clay as it’s worked, and the almost finished doll with the same red hair, the same dark freckles and pale skin and green eyes that Scruple found his uncle’s body laying over was cursed even before Gargamel took the last breath.

When he died, the magic keeping his familiar alive died with him. His living dolls out in the world felt a twinge of something- but Smurf (private name Ettie, smurf being an ancient word for magic Just Run With It) was busy as a barmaid with her peaceful life, Vexy and Hackus with Trying and Failing to be roaming bandits. That twinge, that snap of strings above their head- it wasn’t something for the twins to care about, and Smurf mentioned it idly to Papa and thought no more of it. Perhaps she had just walked through a spiders web! Her senses even now could be a little dull, that’s probably it.

With Gargamel and Azreal dead, Scruple was… alone. What was he to do? Too young to set out on his own, despite his threats of such while his uncle was alive. Too young to know how to reach out for help to an already struggling village, half abandoned as all those with prospects had already left to better places. Too young to try to dig that hole by himself, hands blistering on the shovel, too young to try and sort through the papers gargamel left behind… notes on a project. A doll, one meant to be Sassy, someone to look after things… even in his notes, Gargamel couldn’t make his care clear.

Scruple knew how the living dolls worked, had read his uncle’s work on them, knew how loathed but powerful they could be, affronts to the living nature of things but.

He was so young. And the hole was still so shallow, and his hands hurt, and all the doll needed was stringing before he could dunk it into the potion…

Sassy came to life at sixteen, a thirteen year old with scratched and bloody hands sleeping on a bed meant for a larger man, and she hated this world.

She did not hate her little brother though. How could she? Just as Gargamel unconsciously poured his hate into her, he also poured beaten down and buried love, love which Sassy didn’t know to hide.

She buried the creator she unconsciously hated for leaving his work undone, the cat who followed his master, and wrapped her brother in arms warm with magic like they’d just come from the kiln.

In the days to follow, she would raid the village. In the days to follow, she would take any scraps useful back to Scruple, convince him to eat, to keep going. The two of them just bitter children, she’d help him with clumsy hands to sculpt more dolls, Pat his back and laugh it off when none of them had the same living spirit she did- even if they weren’t alive, they could still follow his orders! That’s good enough, right!

In the days to follow, Papa would follow the trails of an old lover, find out about a tiny village where hope went to die, where the only moving bodies now were shambling cracked clay and a young pair with red hair and green eyes. Sassy would look at him, and find an odd mix of loathing and relief, something in her knowing right away that this man could take care of her brother. He would break the grudge cursing her, would take the two back after destroying the cursed dolls rampaging, he would care for them…

But for now Scruple dreams, and watches, and his hands sting with string linked to a hundred faulty dolls, while the last wishes of a bitter man combs through his hair and tells him she’ll look after him.

She’s so lovely.. she ain’t evil, they’ll let this one affront to nature go. …and her siblings, bc vexy and hackus while terrible bandits are actually great at keeping their area of the woods free of actual bandits? This is Their Turf. Fuck you!!!
